"Mr. Cheng! Two bowls of Marinette Soup!" Fei called out as she walked into the kitchen quickly, panting before walking back out.
"Hǎo de!" Wang answered as he was busy at the stove, cooking. The kitchen was busy as there were a few cooks inside, busy cooking.
It was the night after Marinette returned to Paris, and the restaurant was once again opened for business. And the restaurant was full of people, just was another usual busy day at the restaurant, given Wang's reputation in Shanghai and the winner of the title 'The World's Greatest Chef' a few years ago. It was no surprise that his restaurant was usually crowded with people daily.
Fei was wearing formal clothing as she was helping out as a waitress, deciding that since she was going to live with Wang, she would have to do something in return for his hospitality and kindness of letting her stay with him. And she was quickly getting overwhelmed by the things she needed to do. She soon found herself busy, going from one table to another taking others, and dealing with the customers' questions. Even though there were other waiters and waitresses to help, the situation was proving a bit too much to handle.
It has just been a few days since she moved in and her first time working as a waitress. And it wasn't exactly a smooth experience as her first time actually having a job and working.
"A! Wǒ zhēn de hěn duìbùqǐ," Fei apologized quickly after accidentally bumping into another waitress, as she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking, earning herself a glare from her as she walked past her, obviously mad at Fei for almost making a huge mess.
After accidentally bumping into a waitress, she brought the wrong order to the wrong table. Fei felt fortunate that the customer was kind to her and did not scold her for messing up when they could have very well done so.
Fei sighed. It was just only an hour plus and she was already a bit tired from working. after walking past the waitress before seeing some familiar faces, the trio of boys that she ran into when she stole Marinette's stuff a few days ago. She could see them looking at her then waving at her, gesturing for her to come towards them. Fei smiled awkwardly before walking forward to take their order.
Chung, who has brown hair and darker skin color than the other two, was wearing a casual T-shirt paired with jeans. Jiao, whose body size is the biggest out of the three, was wearing shorts with a black hoodie. Kang, the slimmer and taller one of the trio who had his hair dyed blue, was wearing a plain light blue T-shirt with a black jacket on the outside and jeans.
"Hey there, Fei," Chung said in Mandarin, smiling as the girl approached the trio. "Didn't expect to see you here."
"I work here now," Fei shrugged in response. "As a part-time waitress. What would you like to order?"
"We will have three bowls of noodle soup," Kang said as he passed the menu to her.
"Ok," Fei answered quickly as she took the menu and was about to walk away.
"Wait," Jiao called.
"Hmm? Is there something?" asked Fei as she looked at the trio.
"Oh, no, we were just wondering if you wanted to hang out with us sometimes. You do look quite lonely, and honestly, you don't seem to have any friends," Jiao pointed out.
Thinking about it, Fei had to admit that Jiao was indeed right, she has spent the past few years, living alone, moving around alone, she didn't have a family nor friends after Wu Shifu died until she met Marinette. Which thinking back, it was kinda unfortunate. Ever since young, she was trained and taught by Wu Shifu, she never went to any other school her adopted father untimely death. After that, she attended school for a while then she quitted school around year ago after she finished middle school when the bracelet got stolen. She has always kept to herself, cautious about the people around her as she was tasked with keeping the secret of the Dragon Cave safe, knowing that anyone could make use of her and learn about the secrets. With all that, she very well knew that her childhood was very different from others.
"I… will think about it," Fei said as she blinked awkwardly, taken by surprise by the offer.
"Well, you do have our number, call any of us anytime," Chung said smiling.
"Will do," Fei nodded before quickly turning around and rushing towards the kitchen.
Fei was not sure what to make of what Jiao has just said to her. She ran into the three boys when she stole from Marinette, which resulted in them chasing her as they thought that she was a thief, who she was. Then, they only got to know each other a bit after they met at Marinette's great uncle's house, where they did talk, but not all that much, they just introduced themselves and exchanged numbers. Or more accurately, the boys gave Fei their number as Fei didn't own a phone as she didn't have the money to buy one. After that, Fei was occupied with talking to Marinette, because at that point she was indeed closer to Marinette, and comfortable because she was the only other girl in the room at the time.
"Miss Wu? Miss Wu?" a waiter asked, frustrated, pulling the girl out of her thoughts.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Fei said when she realized that she was blocking his way when she was distracted by her thoughts a bit.
"Get out of my way," the man scoffed angrily as he pushed the cart past her.
Fei just sighed, knowing that it was going to be a long night.
It was late, close to midnight, Fei and Wang were sitting in the dining room, resting after the restaurant was closed up.
"Look, Mr. Cheng, I'm so sorry," Fei apologized. "I just wanted to help. I didn't mean to cause so much trouble"
"Don't worry Fei, look we all make mistakes, the fact that you were willing to help is enough," Wang said smilingly. "Plus, you didn't make any serious mistake."
"Yeah, though I'm pretty sure your staff kinda hates me now," Fei chuckled dryly.
"Oh, they are nothing to worry about, I'm sure they will forgive you," Wang said positively. "Don't beat yourself up over those small mistakes."
"Thank you, Mr. Cheng. I really don't know how else to show my gratitude," Fei said relieved.
Wang just nodded smilingly. "You should get some rest, it has been a busy day," Wang suggested.
Fei nodded as she stood up. "You are right. Goodnight, Mr. Cheng," Fei said before turning around and made her way upstairs.
It was early in the morning; the sun was beginning to rise over the city of Shanghai. Fei has already woken up and was sitting on the floor, with her legs crossed, her eyes closed as Meishi floated beside her, looking at the girl. She was wearing a singlet paired with shorts.
"Breath… rest your body… think… relax your limbs… and breathe… Breath in… Breath out…" Meishi said as she guided Fei to meditate in her room. "Focus your mind… center your thoughts…"
Meditating was something that she constantly did as she was trained by Wu Shifu, even after his death, she continued to do it from time to time to calm herself down before the bracelet was stolen. Fei did as the spirit said, her breaths slowed down as she relaxed her limbs as her eyes were closed, following Meishi's instruction closely and cautiously. Suddenly, there was a loud knock at the door, making Fei open her eyes in shock as she was disturbed by the interruption. Meishi then quickly flew and hid behind the girl.
"Fei?" A voice came from the other side of the door.
"Come in," Fei answered quickly after making sure that Meishi was indeed out of sight.
The door opened, revealing to be Wang. "Breakfast is ready," the man informed the young girl in mandarin. "You can come down to eat soon."
Fei smiled and nodded. "Thanks, Mr. Cheng, I will be downstairs soon."
Wang nodded before walking out of Fei's room, closing the door behind him.
"You know, maybe you should tell your caretaker at least," Meishi suggested in English after Wang left Fei's room.
"What? Are you crazy? Anyone who knows about this," Fei said as she took out the Prodigious, looking at it. "Could be in danger… I'm not going to risk it. I was foolish enough to let Cash know who I am before I made sense of what should I do a few days back, the fewer people that know about me, the better."
"Good, you are being careful. Very good, Fei," Meishi nodded smiling. "But something is disturbing you," the spirit pointed out as he closed his eyes before opening them. "You are conflicted… Why?"
"Meishi… I… just do not seem to ever have a normal life… you see… well… Ever since young… I have been trained by Shifu… and then after he was gone, I spent years alone… then months trying to find what was stolen from me, and intent on protecting the secret of the Dragon Cave, I was so focused on that now thinking back, I did not really get to have a normal life. I didn't even go to school much," Fei sighed. "And now, with this, I feel like, I should start to get my life back in order… I'm probably not making much sense now," Fei groaned in embarrassment, thinking that she was rambling.
"No, I understand what you mean Fei. You are indeed different from the people around you," Meishi nodded. "It is not wrong to think like that."
"I just… feel lost…" Fei sighed as she looked at Meishi.
"Well, you should make connections, get to know some friends, it would be a start," the spirit advised.
"Maybe, I'm not too sure, I mean, how does one even make friends?" asked Fei. "I have been living like a loner for so long, Marinette was somewhat of an accident," Fei sighed.
"Well, what about those three boys? Chung, Kang, and Jiao? They did give you their number and offered to hang out," Meishi suggested. "It could be a start."
"True, but, like… wouldn't it be awkward?" asked Fei.
"Why would it be? I mean, were you awkward with Marinette?" asked Meishi.
"No, but that was a different situation," Fei pointed out. "I stole stuff from her and all that." Fei sighed remembering the terrible things she did in the past, stealing from people and lying, it was something that she was not proud of. "Plus, they are boys."
"They are boys, so what? Fei, look… I am not human, I can't tell you exactly what to do in this condition, I wouldn't know either, all I know is that you have to try at least, meet up with some people and interact you know?" Meishi asked suggesting. "I can only advice you on what to do, the choice is ultimately up to you to decide."
Fei just sighed as she looked at the door. "You're right, I should try at least… Thanks, Meishi."
"You're welcome," Meishi nodded as Fei stood up and walked towards the closet, getting ready for another day.
In a room, an office of sorts, the police commissioner was sitting at the desk, focusing on the screen in front of him and going through the files on his desk, frowning as he flipped through the files. Then, someone came knocking at the door.
"Come in," the man said gruffly while his eyes still concentrating on the screen.
The door opened and a young man came rushing in, sweating quite a bit, closing the door behind him before walking towards the older man. "Sir, you summoned me?" said the young man pantingly.
"Yes, I did, I assume you are Inspector Liang?" asked the man as he looked at the young man.
"Yes," the young man answered.
"What is the progress on tracking down the threat?" asked the older man firmly.
"There is no progress done so far, there has been no sighting of her ever since the attack," the inspector said.
"Hmm… what about the man she brought in? Has anyone thought to ask him?" asked the commissioner.
"N- No sir, we haven't thought about that," the inspector said sheepishly.
The commissioner just frowned before standing up. "Bring me to him. I want to speak to him myself."
Cash was laying on the bunk in the cell, just staring at the ceiling when he heard footsteps approaching. The man sat up and looked out of his cell, and saw two policemen accompanying an older man, now standing in front of his cell.
"What do you want?" asked Cash carefreely as he sat up, looking at the three men.
The older man was the first one to speak. "I'm the police commissioner of Shanghai Municipal Police. I have some questions regarding the person that brought you in a few nights ago," the man said sternly.
"You want to know who she is?" asked Cash smirkingly, looking up at the policemen.
"Yes," the commissioner nodded.
"Hmm… what do I get from this?" asked Cash as he stood up and walked towards the bars, crossing his arms.
"What do you mean?" asked one of the policemen as Cash stood directly in front of the police commissioner.
"I mean, well, nothing comes for free," Cash said chuckling. "If you all really want to know, well, my price is simple, let me go, and pay me a sum of money."
"That is not happening," the police commissioner said firmly before turning to leave, with the two other policemen following him.
Cash just smirked. "Oh~ We shall see about that," the man smirked as he watched the men leave the hallway.
