Two weeks. It was exactly two weeks when he noticed that his little trouble maker, to which he found was named Machi, was a bit on the clumsy side. He didn't give it much thought in the beginning, considering how malnourished she was when he first took her in. He waved it off to a child finally getting on her feet.
And did she take every opportunity once she could.
He sighed heavily as a bouncing peach curls ran at high speed back and forth around his office. Bubble Girl stood to the side with a clipboard grasped firmly in her hand, a large smile pulling at her face as she watched the child race around.
Everywhere she went she kept bumping into things, knocking things over, or tripping. He also noticed how she flinched at loud noises or someone coming up too close to her space without presenting themselves. Additionally, she only fully stared straight ahead as though nothing around her caught her eye.
His eyes narrowed contemplatively. Could she be...
"Machi."
The peach fluff halted mid stride causing her to trip over her own feet and tumble to her back. She got up quickly before looking over to her self appointed caretaker. And that was when he saw it. She turned towards him, her eyes staring blankly just to the left of his face.
"Come here, I want to give you something." He prompted. She moved forward hesitantly. His eyes zeroed in on the way tiny hands came up slightly as though she wanted to grasp onto something. She bumped into the side of his desk lightly before standing before him.
"Machi, can you see very well?" Her face twitched into a somewhat stunned expression.
"A little." She whispered hands coming together nervously as her milky lavender gaze moved down.
"No need to be ashamed, it's but a simple question. I've noticed you've been having a hard time moving around." Her soft hair bobbed with the movement of her nod as she acknowledged his words.
"In that case, let's test it a little shall we? How many fingers am I holding up?" He said as he raised three fingers to what should be her line of vision. She looked up at the question, staring blankly ahead. Her brows furrowed in confusion.
He put one finger down. "How about now?"
"two." Her confident answer took him off guard. How was it that she could see the two but not the three he held up previously? Bubble Girl decided then to move catching her attention as he brought another finger down. "How about now?"
She turned back to him, once again she stared blankly ahead. Sasaki's brows furrowed at the inconsistency of her answers. He tried again and brought up two fingers. "What about now?"
"Three." Once again the confidence and accuracy of her answer put him for a loop. One moment she could see exactly the amount of fingers and yet couldn't at the same time.
He put his arm down and watched as she followed the movement that she could yet couldn't see.
"Machi, tell me what you see, what does it look like to you?"
She looked up at the sound of his voice, eyes trained on the movement of his lips.
"I can see you when you move."
"So you can't see but when there is movement you can see. Is that correct?"
"Yes."
Saraki hummed thoughtfully, his hand coming up to graze his chin. What a strange disability. She could see but only when things we're in motion. "What about color? Can you see colors at all or is it blurred?"
Her face morphed into one of confusion. Color? "How would you describe it then?"
"Light and dark, it's all light but when you move it's dark...is that bad? Her hesitant voice caused him to reach over and pat her head lightly, mindful as she flinched with the sudden contact before relaxing.
So that's what it was. She was blind but not entirely, her vision only consisted of a stark white and black. And from the sound of it she could only see during periods of movement. Saraki watched her in fascination, intrigued by one small child's complexity. I wonder if she has a quirk? Any quirk would be difficult to control with a disability like hers.
"Well then let's test it out a few more times. I'll have to make an appointment at the hospital for an evaluation and see if you'll develop a quirk."
"Clinic..?"
"You'll be fine, it should take us no more than an hour at most. His brows furrowed as her hands trembled before her, small milk teeth worrying the bottom of her lip in her nervousness.
"I...don't like doctors."
Sarakis eyes flashed as another, worrying admission was made to him. "I'll be there with you the entire time, no need to be nervous."
He watched her nod before sending her on her way to which she started back on her energetic running. He sighed again at the loud thump of her head colliding with a bookcase. A small, reserved smile lighting his face at her faint giggling.
