Chapter 2

First hunger pains

Six's View:

I felt my self fall to the floor when the buzzing in my ears stopped. I laid there for a bit, letting my brain clear up from the buzzing.

"Hey," Mono's voice called to me. I felt his hand on my shoulder, shaking me lightly. I opened my eyes with a groan as Mono's deep dark brown eyes looked at mine with worry. My head was sore and the buzzing was still there, quieter but still there.

"Six, are you okay?" Mono asked as I stood up slowly.

"I will be fine..." I said right before flinching at Mono's gentle touch on my head.

"No! You are not fine! We are-" Mono cut off as he stared at the shadows behind me. I quickly turned around to see what spooked Mono. All I saw were shadows, until it moved into the small amount of light provided by the TV behind us.

A child that looked just like me, coat and all, was standing there staring at us. The kid looked as if it was made of shadows and static.

The shadow kid pointed at me without saying a word. Suddenly, I felt like my body got drained of it's organs and an empty void expanded inside me. I clutched my stomach as the void grew. Mono looked from me to the shadow kid then back to me. The shadow kid dropped a piece of paper right before vanishing into thin air.

Suddenly, my stomach let out a loud growl. As it growled, it felt as if someone was twisting a knife into my stomach. I nearly fell over in pain but Mono caught me and helped me stand.

"Six?!" Mono panicked as I fell forwards as another painful growl struck me hard. Mono caught me and helped me lay down on the floor, leaning up against a chair or a couch of some sorts.

"Eat! Now! " a strange staticy voice yelled in my head.

I gripped my stomach tighter as another painful growl struck my stomach. Each time was getting worst and worst.

"Six! What can-" Mono's voice sounded faint and far away but I could see through blurry eyes, that his face right in front of mine.

"Food..." I mumbled as I held my stomach tighter.

The sounds of Mono's footsteps skittering away from me were barely heard over the static voice in my head.

"Eat..! NOW! Food..! EAT!!! " it spoke menacingly.

I could feel myself wanting to black out with exhaustion, the pain was to much to handle. Tears soaking my cheeks, I felt my body start to go numb. Someone touching my shoulder, made me raise my head weakly and see who it was.

Mono found a piece of bread and was holding it out to me.

" YES!!FOOD!!EAT!!NOW!!! " the static voice screamed in my head.

I winced and grabbed the bread from Mono. I started biting into it, ripping off chunks and eating so fast that I didn't even get to taste the bread. I know I probably looked like a savage animal right now but the more I ate, the less the pain hurt.

I finished the bread with a slight discomfort still in my stomach from eating so fast. I looked up and realized I was on my knees and I continued raising my head until my eyes locked onto Mono's eyes of fear and worry. He took a step towards me as I felt my eyelids droop. I felt my body go limp with exhaustion.

"Six!" I heard Mono say before I blacked out.

I felt something stroking my hair as I started to wake up. Then I heard... humming? I laid there listening for a minute. It was the same tune as my music box. I smiled and opened my eyes slowly, trying not to alert him, so he wouldn't stop humming.

Mono was looking around the room, checking for any potential dangers while holding my head in his lap. He had pulled my hood down and was stroking my black bangs out of my face. He looked down at me and noticed I was awake. He stopped humming and stroking my hair and turned his head away from me, probably blushing.

"So, you're awake now. Are you okay?" Mono said as he turned his face back to look at me. He had a tiny glimpse of blush left on his cheeks.

I raised my head off his lap and sat up.

"Yea, I'm feeling way better now. " I said as i pulled my hood over my head and adjusted my hair so it covered my eyes again.

"Are you sure? What even happened?" Mono asked as I stood up and smoothed out my wrinkled raincoat.

"I'm not even sure what happened... it was like-" I stopped and buried my face into my hands in attempt to hide the incoming tears.

Mono got up and rested his hand on my shoulder. I leaned into Mono as he gently pulled me in for a hug. Once inside his embrace, I broke down, tears soaked my face and the front of Mono's shirt. Mono was humming the same tune as my music box. My tears eased up as I calmed down and listened to the tune.

"Thanks, Mono. I needed that..." I said as I pulled away from the hug. I saw Mono's cheeks turn red right before turning his head away.

Mono nodded. "You were saying..." He said, trying to resume their previous conversation.

With sadness in my voice, I replied, "Yea... I was saying that it felt like a void opened up inside me. I felt empty, like a part of me was taken away... When my stomach growled, I felt a lot of pain. It felt like I was being stabbed in the stomach with a knife and the blade was twisting deeper into me. It was horrible..." I said as I wrapped my arms around my stomach as I remembered to intense pain.

"It's over now. Don't worry..." Mono said as he looked deeply into my eyes.

I shook my head in disagreement, " No... I have a feeling that it's only going to get worst. That was only the beginning..." I said, trembling as I thought of more extreme pain.

"Hey, at least now we know how to fix it once it starts. That way you won't need to suffer for long." Mono said as he walked over to the piece of paper the shadow, glitchy kid dropped.

"What's that?" I asked as I approached Mono as he picked up the paper.

"The shadow kid dropped it before vanishing." Mono said as he held up the paper for both of us to see.

It was a flyer for someplace called The Maw. It had a scene of the ocean but a man made structure was sticking out of the waves. It was a dome shaped object made with real coloured chunks of metal, overlapping each other. Rocks cling to the top and the large chimney on top puffed out clouds of smoke. The title sat among the clouds of smoke saying, "THE MAW". The subtitle rested in the ocean waves saying, "A Place To Eat All You Ever Wanted!"

"We need to go there..." I whispered but Mono still heard me.

"Wait, why? I bet it would be crawling with monsters. Don't you want a safe place?" Mono asked.

"If this...thing. Gets worst. I'm probably going to need to eat more." I said.

"Yea, probably... But how do we get to a place that is underwater, out in the middle of the ocean, without getting caught?" Mono asked as he scratched his head, messing up his already messy black hair.

"I... have no idea..." I admitted.

Whoo! Finally got the second chapter done! I really appreciate all my readers! If you have any ideas for this story let me know! I have up to the part where they meet the kid behind the bars (the one who gave six bread) written out. I made that kid be the Runaway Kid. For those of you who are hoping to let me write in the raincoat girl... I'm sorry... she is considered dead in this fanfiction. I am only changing the time line from the point where six would've betrayed mono and forwards. I will upload more soon! (Hopefully life doesn't get to busy...) see you in the next chapter!
