Harry didn't bother returning to his desk. He sprinted through the Ministry and sent a Patronus to Ron to meet him at home. If Ron was free then he would and if he wasn't then it wouldn't matter so much. He called out to Ginny and insisted that she grab her cloak and join him and he Apparated her off the front doorstep before she could even ask what was going on.
"What the hell is wrong with you, I've barely got my cloak on."
"Narcissa has," he swallowed. "There's a funeral. I," he shuddered. "Need to attend."
She stared at him for a long time and he let her. She was the love of his life and he wanted, he needed her to understand.
"I'll see if Hermione will come, you go and get Andy and Teddy."
"Oh," Harry crumpled. "I don't -"
"If you need to, Andy does too."
Harry looked at his hands and nodded, kissing her softly and leaving her on Hermione's front lawn and Apparating to Andromeda's place.
"Harry!"
"Hey Andy," he smiled sadly. "I need to tell you something and I'm so sorry for how I'm about to do this."
"Oh dear," she sighed. "Go on then."
"Narcissa," he whispered. "Has died."
Andy stared at him and looked up at the ceiling and then sat on the bottom step of the stairs and stared at the floor.
"Andy?"
She shook her head, but he reached forward and gripped her hand. She squeezed it, almost painfully in response but no tears fell. He couldn't imagine what she must be feeling.
"I don't know exactly when it is, but it's today," he whispered. "If you want to go. I am. Ginny is going to come with me. Hermione, if she's up to it. I haven't called Min or Molly yet but I thought," his voice cracked. "I thought it would be the right thing to do."
Andy looked at him with so much pain in her eyes that he almost couldn't stand it.
"Why," she asked. "Why."
"Because she matters. Because her choice mattered. Because she matters, Andy."
The tears began to fall and she nodded.
"Teddy is upstairs, I don't know if I should -"
"He should," Harry muttered. "I'll go, if you like?"
She nodded and he kissed her hair and left her to it. He took the stairs two at a time and knocked on Teddy's door.
"Hey kid," he tried to smile, but he didn't think he was very successful.
"Hey Uncle Harry," he grinned. Harry watched it fall when he met his eyes. "What's wrong?"
"I just found out Grandma's sister has died so we're going to go and pay our respects, okay?"
"Do I -"
"I'm not going to make you come with us, but I think Grandma might like it if you did. Narcissa," he sighed. "Well," he shrugged. "It's the right thing to do."
"What do I wear?"
"Black robes," he said with a nod. "And your cloak."
"Okay."
"Can you be quick? It's happening really soon."
"Sure, I'll be down in a few minutes."
"Thanks, mate," Harry nodded.
He went back down the stairs and found Andy standing in front of the mirror studying herself.
"It's so unfair," she whispered. "I'd just decided that perhaps it was time to bury the hatchet and now she'll never know that I -"
He wrapped his arms around her and held on as she sobbed.
"She knows," Harry whispered. "You stood up for her at the trials, despite everything that had happened. She knows, Andy."
Andromeda gasped and wiped her face, blinking to prevent more tears from falling.
"Is Teddy coming?"
"Yeah," Harry muttered. "He's just getting changed."
"Where are we going?"
"Wiltshire," he shrugged.
"I know the place," she muttered. "You should go and get Min and Molly."
"'Kay," he muttered. "You okay?"
"No," she smiled, cupping his cheek. "But I'm not supposed to be. I'll get us there, though, no problem."
He nodded and stepped out, Apparating away to Hogwarts.
