Dolts and a Wedding Mix Terribly Well (One-shot)

Penny and Ruby's wedding was long-awaited for, and it all seems to be going well if not for the little quirks that really staple that it's the wedding between this nut and dolt. (Post-war AU, it's been 10 year - Penny isn't dead)

A/N - I will rant for a solid 10+ minutes on how long this took. I started working on this BEFORE chapter 12 came out. BEFORE CHAPTER 12! THIS HAS TAKEN ME ALMOST A MONTH!

Anyways. The finale ruined me so I've been writing Nuts and Dolts to cope, please enjoy the chaos

"Oh dear gods what if she doesn't come…" The panicked voice of Ruby filled the room as she paced. Currently all she wore was a robe and a pair of shorts. She'd just had her makeup finished by the stylist she had and she was waiting for her wedding suit to arrive so she could formally get dressed. Reality was really setting in. She was getting married. In only a few hours.

Ruby was aware Penny wouldn't, well, who knows, but she knew Penny wouldn't not come to her own wedding. The what if that did bounce around her brain though did still plague her. She would be even more a mess had Yang not been sitting in the room with her. She got up extra early to help Ruby and was already dressed in her bridesmaid dress. Yang was her matron of honor after all, and she was beyond thankful for the help that morning.

"She'll come, it's Penny," Yang shrugged her shoulders as Ruby stopped.

"Oh… I know that I just can't shake that feeling away," Ruby muttered, "How the heck did you get through your wedding day?!"

"It was hard but… I guess I just kind of knew, I mean…" Yang looked away nervously chuckling, "I had cold feet too, you know, you were my maid of honor after all."

"And now you're my matron of honor," Ruby smiled a little at the memory of Yang and Blake's wedding day. Now today was her day. Her and Penny's day.

"Dawn's going to be happy to see you I bet," Ruby noted the absence of Yang and Blake's daughter, who had been with their parents for the weekend.

"Oh yeah mom called last night had to have me and Blake read her a bedtime story so she would go to sleep," Yang shook her head with a light smile, "I know you're… Not even married yet technically, but do you think you and Penny will ever have kids?"

"I… I doubt it to be honest," Ruby sighed, "Anywho, where are the others?" She knew it was only 9 in the morning but Weiss and Blake were nowhere to be seen. Those were her other two brides-matrons after all…

It was definitely awkward being almost 30 and just now getting married, the only actual bridesmaid being her little sister Summer, but she was only 12 making her a junior bridesmaid. Ruby at least had an idea of where Summer was, their parents were bringing her within the next hour since she was a little young for a bachelor weekend.

That weekend had been very chaotic. Very.

"We're here!" Ruby heard Blake's voice as if on a cue of sorts. The door to the room Ruby and Yang were in opened and in came Blake and Weiss. The two were in their dresses already. The dress color of Ruby's bridesmaids was red and they all were the same style. Halter neck with a waistline and an a-line skirt that touched the floor.

"Sorry, Blake overslept," Weiss chuckled to which Blake rolled her eyes.

"Not my fault," Blake nudged Weiss lightly, "Anyways, how has your morning been?"

"She's a mess," Yang laughed a little.

"I am not!" Ruby grumbled before taking a seat beside Yang, "We're just waiting for my suit."

"Right, anyways, your hair," Blake said, "Your stylist did it, right?"

"Yup!" Ruby said, "How does it look?"

"Good! I think I'll add something in a bit though," She shoved something a bit further down her dress pocket.

The four of them chatted a few minutes before Ruby's wedding suit arrived. In a flash, she was in it. It was simple, black with white and red accents. By the time she was in her shoes, Summer finally had shown up, with a quick pop in from Ruby's dad Tai-Yang.

Now this was it. Ruby luckily was the first to go up, as Penny was technically the bride (even with Ruby referring to the others as bridesmaids despite her technically being the groom). She stood at the front, the person marrying them wasn't anyone they knew very well, but they were local in Patch ad Ruby wanted a piece of her home so she figured it'd be nice. His name was Ross, and he'd lived here the entire time Ruby had existed on this planet so it did fit.

One by one the bridesmaids and matrons filed down the row. Yang walking up with Winter as the matron and maid of honor, followed by Weiss and Nora, then Blake and Emerald, Emerald even after what had originally happened had become good friends with Penny and Ruby, so it was nice to see her at this point. When Blake had gotten up to the front she pulled a pink rose out of her dress pocket, she neatly slid it into Ruby's hair before going to the side. Lastly, Summer came up with Ciel, Ruby had been shocked when she finally saw Ciel again after the events of the Vytal festival and she was overjoyed when she heard she and Penny were genuinely friends now.

At the end came the flower girl and ring bearer, who were respectively from both sides of the wedding. Weiss' son, Ilie, was the ring bearer, the 8-year-old wore a simple white shirt and vest with dress pants. Nora and Ren's daughter, Idalia, was the flower girl, she may only have been 6 but she made a great show with throwing the petals at just about any point she could as she walked up in her knee-length light pink dress.

Once the two arrived Ruby heard a shift in the music to a light more slower piano. Ruby's eye darted to the entrance to the hall as she peered for Penny. Gradually she appeared, beside her was her dad, Pietro, who walked with his chair. Penny's wedding dress was white with light green accents, it was a ballgown with no sleeves, her hair was down with a large light green bow in the back. When she and her dad reached the point where Ruby was, Penny leaned down to hug Pietro, before he went to take his spot.

Ruby could not stop a smile from widening on her face when Penny finally stood in front of her. Her eye watered a bit before she took a quick look over her shoulder to see Yang snickering at her. Silence stayed a moment before Ruby quickly wiped the tears from her eye.

"Sorry- You're just- Really beautiful…" Ruby let out, causing a soft chuckle from the crowd that she joined in with, along with Penny.

"And you're handsome yourself," Penny said, holding her hands out for Ruby to take them. The officiator cleared his throat while Ruby grasped Penny's hands.

"Well I better start before these two lovebirds flirt each other to death before they can even get married," Ross spoke with another small bit of laughter coming from the attendees, "Today we gather to celebrate the union of Ruby Rose and Penny Polendina. I think about everyone in here can tell that today is going to be an incredibly happy day for the two of them, and I'm here so their love can be made official, forever."

"Now I've never gotten to personally know Miss. Rose until recently, but I at least knew of her since she was born to Mr. Xiao-Long and the late Ms. Rose," He nodded over to Ruby's dad who was sitting in the crowd, "Patch was small, and both her and her sister were common people you'd hear stories of every now and then with their crazy adventures."

"Then there's Miss. Polendina, I know Miss. Rose will agree when I say she's the most unique person you'll ever meet. From nuts and bolts to being a human girl, you've got to acknowledge how special that really makes her," He took a moment to straighten his tie, "You've got to appreciate the efforts of Mr. Polendina, even if Penny here was still robotic she'd be the same. She's truly special, especially to Ruby Rose."

"Now when Miss. Rose had asked me about officiating this wedding I was surprised, but hearing their story it truly was lovely. These two have known each other since they bumped into each other near the Vale docks over a decade ago, and while they didn't realize their love at first, giving it about 9 years they truly understood how much they meant to each other. Now I'm neither Ruby Rose or Penny Polendina, so I'll be letting them speak on their own behalf about their love." His hand gestured to Ruby, "Miss. Rose, as the groom I believe you should be allowed to speak first."

"Wow, okay uh," Ruby nervously stammered, "Penny I know we've… There's been a lot that's happened, you know with all of the war and stuff. I'm just glad that I've found you through it, if Weiss hadn't had been so adamant of chasing Sun that day at the docks, who knows if we'd have even met!"

"Even through all the hard times, I know how hard it was for you… I mean, let's get things straight you've seen death before and it was scary, thinking I'd lost you. Then when you got those squishy guts of yours and you… Almost died… Again… I didn't even know at first, I was in wonderland! I just… I'm so glad you were okay, and…" Ruby took a moment to stare at the scars visible through the sheer part of the neck of Penny's dress, "Even though it took us a while to figure out truly how much we meant to each other, I'm glad we did, because this entire time I've always loved you, Penny. I'm glad that I have this chance to spend the rest of my life with you. I really am." Ruby took a moment to let go of Penny's hands to wipe her tears out of her eye, "But, yeah… I'm just… So glad that you're here, and that I'm here, that we're here together."

"Aw… You'll make me cry too!" Penny lightly chuckled, "I guess I can say the same thing, I mean, before we met, I didn't know… Know at all what it was like to have friends, and while we're about to get married I want to remind you that you're also my best friend and that you're the bestest friend anyone could ask for. You're my everything. When my dad rebuilt me and I had not a clue to where you were I was sad… But when I saw you that day we met again, I was overjoyed! It was… It was a wish come true. A dream."

"To say the least, I don't think I can verbally express how much you mean to me. You know what you helped me with through the most," Penny paused, "You taught me that, even when I was mechanical, I was still a real person. A real girl. And it… It's always meant so much to me. That to you I wasn't just a war machine, that I was a person. I was always a person to you."

"When… When I… The day I got these scars… I was scared of losing you again. I thought I had lost you. I thought that I'd never hadve the chance to tell you just how much you've always meant to me. It was scary because to be honest before we met I always wished… Every night… And you did not hear this from me, but the stars in the sky, every night I'd look up to them and wish for someone to come into my life and be the friend I always wanted. That I needed." Penny took a quick second to choke on a few tears, "You're just my Starlight, Ruby Rose, and I want you to remember that while I'm your Firefly, I'll always see you as my Starlight. We've both been lighting up each other's lives, from the first day we met and up until now." Silence stood for a few beats, all Ruby could hear was her own heartbeat and Penny's. Penny was smiling softly at her, Ruby doing the same.

"Like I was saying a minute ago, we better hurry this up before they melt in each other's presence," Ross had coughed in a slightly satirical manner, "We know that the way we can make this really, really official, is with the official vows. Ruby, do you know your vows or do you want to repeat after me?"

"I think she's going to explode if she has to do them with someone else," Penny teased as Ruby's eye widened in joking offense.

"I can say them just fine!" Ruby countered back, a smirk on her face.

"If you would then, Miss. Rose," He closed the book in his hand.

"I, Ruby Rose, take you, Miss. Penny Polendina, to be my lawfully wedded wife. To have and to hold through bitter and gold. That no matter what may come between us we'll be bound even in death. That if something were to happen we'd still be at each other's sides," Ruby's thumb rubbed Penny's hand as the officiator talked to Penny now.

"Miss. Polendina, would you like to say them on your own?" He asked. Penny quickly nodded before clearing her throat.

"I, Penny Polendina, take you, Miss. Ruby Rose, as my lawfully wedded wife. We'll hold each other, through good and bad. No matter what happens with us, that we'll still be together even in death. And that if we'd run into something, we'd stand at each other's sides, because we'll be protectors of each other," Penny smiled even wider at the last part.

"Before we continue would you like to present each other's gifts, along with the rings if you would," Ross stayed mostly calm and collected, but Ruby could see a gleam in his eyes that meant he was holding back tears of his own. Ruby held her gift in her suit pocket, it'd been placed there the day before. Ilie came up to the two and held up the pillow with the rings neatly attached to it to avoid them falling off. Ruby gratefully took the rings off the pillow and handed Penny the other wedding ring. They matched, gold cut with a small diamond in the middle.

Penny was the first to put the ring on. She took Ruby's left hand and slid it onto her ring finger before placing her other hand on top of her hand.

"I know this gift is a little odd, but I think you'll like it," She reached behind her, where Ruby saw Winter sliding a gently wrapped object into Penny's hand. Penny handed the object to Ruby and she removed the wrapping. Inside was a familiar black and pink bow with a gold button. The same one she originally wore, "You helped me find my humanity, so I'm giving you one of the first things technical humanity gave me." Ruby held the bow up and then hugged it for a moment before nodding.

"Thank you," Ruby said. It was Ruby's turn now, she took Penny's left hand and slide the ring onto her dainty fingers, "Now this present may not seem like anything too special, but it's off of something you'll recognize." She pulled a red cloth from her pocket and placed it in Penny's hands, "It's a piece of the cloak I wore back at Beacon, so you can always have a piece of me with you, you know?"

"It's perfect," Penny said, sliding the cloth into a pocket in her dress while Ruby put her bow in her own pocket. With that over with the officiator spoke once more.

"Now, do you both promise that, even while you may be apart you'll still be together. That you'll be at each other's sides through the tough times, and even in the best of times," Ross waited for their response.

"We do," Ruby and Penny spoke together this time.

"Then by the power that's been invested in me, I pronounce you wives, you may kiss the bride," He gleefully stated. Ruby took a moment, almost hesitating, but she pulled Penny down to her height and her lips made contact with Penny's.

Her wife.

It felt surreal as the piano music started again and Ruby began to pick up Penny. Even though Penny was taller than her, Ruby had a tendency to pick her girlfriend- No wait, her wife up.

It was real now.

She and Penny were married.

, , , , , ,

"And when I'd gone in for that kiss, we accidentally both had the same idea and bonked foreheads!" Ruby exclaimed as she let out a lighthearted laugh. It was the wedding reception now. They'd just finished dinner and she and Penny had been gushing about their first date to the people at the table.

"Oh yeah, I remember the bruise on your forehead!" Penny chuckled as she pointed at the center of Ruby's forehead, "Not like I didn't have one as well of course, but still."

"So, are we having cake soon?" Nora asked from Penny's side of the table. Beside her sat Ren, who shook his head.

"Nora, you realize we just finished dinner," He said, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"No she has a point, time for cake?" Ruby stood up, hitting a glass with her spoon to get the room's attention, "Alright everyone, gather around we're about to cut the cake!" Ruby took a moment to turn to Penny and lend her hand out to pull her up. The wives walked over to a separate table where a large white cake was placed, the top had a mini decoration of Ruby and Penny.

"Would you like to cut it?" Ruby asked, her wife was quick to nod and pick up the knife. People began to gather around the table as Penny waited. She was going to cut it before she stopped.

"Wait, we should do it together," Wither her free hand, Penny took Ruby's hands and placed them on top of her own. Together the newlyweds cut the cake with a swift slice and a piece was soon on a plate. Around them, Ruby could hear the cheers from the attendees. Penny and Ruby both grabbed two forks and took a piece of the cake slice and soon it was being eaten by them. Ruby tasted the deliciousness of the vanilla cake as the frosting on it melted in her mouth. She smiled as she looked to Penny who seemed overjoyed about the cake.

She'd learned shortly after the war with Salem that Penny was a huge lover of cake. Vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. So, naturally, their cake had to be that. They went back to their seats as one of the helpers began to serve the cake to the guest.

"You know, me and Weiss made a bet on who would ask who out," Yang said when she'd sat back down. Ruby raised an eyebrow at this.

"What?" Ruby said, "You… Made a bet?"

"You made a bet on me and Blake with Weiss, didn't you?" She shrugged her shoulders, "Anyways I lost, Weiss had placed her bets on you asking Penny out, and… You know that's what happened so I had to pay her."

"How much did she ask?" Ruby assumed not much, Weiss was rich anyways.

"Oh uh, she didn't ask for money," Yang admitted. Ruby stayed silent for a moment as she choked.

"What the hell did she make you do?!" Ruby asked.

"I regret even making the bet," Yang placed her head in her hands for a moment, "Weiss thought it'd be funny that the bet was that whoever won got a weekend alone with their partner, and the loser… Had to babysit."

"Wasn't Dawn just a newborn then?" This scenario was not looking too great. Yang hesitantly nodded.

"That was really unfair," Ruby said, "Dawn was a handful, wasn't she?"

"Mhm, imagine adding two toddlers into the mix," Yang grumbled.

"Gods, I'm sorry?" Ruby wasn't sure how to approach the situation, "Wait, how was Ilie?"

"Oh, he was fine, actually." Yang admitted, "He's calm and even helped with Dawn a little, which was weird."

"I swear he's way too mature for his age," Ruby noted, "Sorry I just… Worry…"

"He isn't even your kid, imagine how it must be for Weiss," Yang pointed out.

"I know, he's the closest I'll ever have to any sort of kid," Ruby said, "At least he has Summer."

"True… Where'd she go anyways?" Yang asked, Ruby had noticed that Summer hadn't come up to the cake table so she had no clue where the 12-year-old had disappeared off to.

"I don't know, she's probably off getting more food or with Raven," Ruby said. Summer often was stubborn and wouldn't want to fully participate in the main part of family events, so she kept to herself. Her guess was that she'd gone to the garden outside to get fresh air or something like that.

After a while the rest of the crowd split back to their tables and the table was filled again. Ruby and Penny finished their cake slice and ended up in the same seat. The seats luckily were wide and Ruby had laid into Penny's shoulder, basking in the warmth of her warm red curls. After a few minutes of laying into Penny's shoulder though, Ruby's boredom quickly grew.

A playful smirk was painted as she turned to Yang. The idea was harmless, hopefully, if it didn't get out of hand. Be subtle. If she was subtle it shouldn't go south. She waited a while and when Penny got up to get another slice of cake she knew her plan would be going to plan. Penny sat back down with the slice and Ruby took a bit of the cake in her hand.

"What are you doing, Ruby?" Penny asked as Ruby stared at Yang.

"Oh nothing, watch this though," Ruby waited for Yang to turn away before throwing the crumble at her. Yang quickly turned back around, confused as she looked to find who threw the bit. Ruby turned away, but not before Penny could lightly shake her shoulder.

"That was mean!" She whispered.

"I know, but look she's fine," Ruby giggled, closing her eye for a moment and feeling something hit her face. She opened her eye to see Yang staring her dead in the eye, shaking her head. Ruby burst out laughing at this as Yang's face softened up.

An hour or so after that fiasco a lot of people had finished cake and Ruby and Penny were ready for the next part of the reception. It was something Ruby knew Penny in particular had been excited for. Penny had been very eager and had pulled Ruby into the middle of the crowd very quickly when the time came for the first dance. Ruby also watched as Weiss walked onto the stage, taking the microphone.

Was she about to sing?

"Alright everyone, so before we start Penny wanted me to tell you all that she's excited about this song," Weiss began, "She actually wrote it a really long time ago. I have an idea of when she wrote it, but getting to practice it I want Ruby to know that she has an amazing wife, and that she really does care about you. Knowing about when she wrote this I can tell you she cares a lot."

"You wrote this?" Ruby asked Penny directly. She blushed and lightly nodded before taking Ruby's hands.

"You'll like it, I promise," Penny assured. A soft piano, almost like a melancholy, began. Penny gradually began to step and guide Ruby into dance.

'Darkness, like midnight. Moonless, there's no light. Another lonely day is ending.'

"This is awfully morbid for you," Ruby pointed out as Penny lightly chuckled bittersweetly.

"It's not that bad, I promise," Penny said.

'Searching forever, waiting, but never finding, the one thing I dream of…'

Weiss's voice continued to fill the room as the couple continued dancing.

'The warmth of a smile, that stays for a while, the face of a friend that won't leave.'

An interlude began as the beat changed a bit. Almost a happier uplift.

'I heard a song once, it posed, that wishes made on stars are likely to come true.'

'So here's my secret, at bedtime every night, I searched the sky and hoped to find a star who'd send a light to me.'

'The one thing I need. Just one kind soul with a heart of gold, then my dreams became real and I feel not alone!'

'Do hugs always make you feel this warm?'

"When did you write this?" Ruby quickly asked.

"I… It's a bit of a story, it'll be obvious at the end," Penny nervously looked away.

'My wish came true the day that you appeared and called me friend.'

'An answered prayer, a chance to share the world, to be a girl, who finally felt alive!'

"Let me guess, before Atlas fell?" Ruby asked. Penny shook her head.

'I'm so excited, we'll do so many friendship things, paint our nails, try on clothes, talk about cute boys!'

'Attached but not by strings.'

'And when you've got problems, woah, then I've got problems too!'

'You'll never face this world alone it's you… And me.'

Penny had begun to spin Ruby around and the world seemed to almost slow down.

'Protectors of each other's what we'll be!'

'You saw my soul through the nuts and bolts, you're the friend I can trust, helped me see I'm not just a machine!'

'And is this what all the feels mean?'

Another interlude happened and Penny had taken full-on hold of their dance. She was moving in perfect sync with the music in an almost impossibly perfect way.

"You practiced a lot didn't you?" Ruby asked, while at the same time trying to keep up.

"Yup!" Penny said, not moving her eyes away from their feet movement. Eventually, the bridge came in.

'I've been combat ready since the day dad made me! Now I'll fight for something more,'

"Wait…" Ruby felt it click in her mind as she stared up as Penny suddenly slowed their dance down, tears filling her eyes.

'Might sound wholesome but strangely, I've got friends I'm fighting for…'

"Penny…" Ruby moved a bit closer to the redhead as they almost stopped dancing to look each other dead in the eye.

'But I found that, humanity, it came with sacrifice a pact, to shield you from the wicked even if I can't live for real, it was worth it to know.'

"I love you, Ruby!" And with that Penny hugged Ruby and Ruby felt the floor disappear beneath her with an almost sudden stop to the music. Ruby looked down to realize they were in the air. Above the crowd.

"WAIT PENNY YOUR DRESS-" Came the shout of who knows who in the crowd. Penny took a moment to realize she was floating. Flabbergasted she gradually came back down with Ruby. For a moment she looked away, smiling and flustered in embarrassment.

"At least your dress didn't catch on fire," Ruby pointed out. For a moment there was silence, then…

"My wish came true, the day that you appeared and called me friend." Penny was whisper singing into Ruby's ear as she tightly hugged her.

"An answered prayer, a chance to share the world, to be a girl, who finally felt alive," She ended it on her own, no backup music, no vocals from Weiss, it was just Penny.

"You wrote this when you thought I was gone…" Ruby finally said when Penny finished. Penny nodded. Ruby's eye welled up in emotion as she threw her arms around her wife and cried into her shoulder, "Oh, Penny…" The two ended up softly crying into the other's shoulder for a moment, "I love you too, Penny…"

"Sorry I just… I always wanted to share that with you I just didn't know how you'd take it-"

"I love it." Ruby firmly said, unwrapping from their hug a bit to wipe the tears from her eye. The moment was silent. Peaceful even. Ruby didn't even hear the sound of Blake running up to the stage ad taking the microphone from Weiss. The two turned around when Blake's panicked voice came over the sound.

"Sorry to interrupt but has anyone seen Dawn anywhere?" She asked, the crowd gradually began to shrug their shoulders as people looked around for the girl.

"She's only 4, she can't have gotten far," Ruby whispered to Penny while she looked around herself.

"Wait, where are Ilie and the twins?" Weiss said from the other side of the crowd when she got off stage.

Oh no.

"They're all missing aren't they, I bet Idalia will be missing next," Ruby said, to which she realized someone in particular never came back.

Summer.

"Oh well, then they're probably fine…" Ruby reasoned with herself, but when you have worried parents in a large crowd you have to look. But, it was obvious already they weren't even in the ballroom anymore.

"I guess we're moving outside," Ruby admitted as she and Penny headed towards the courtyard outside, Blake and Weiss close behind.

"They can't have gotten far you two, when did you last see them?" Penny asked.

"Before the dance, Dawn was holding onto my dress, I didn't realize she'd gone off until you two had finished dancing," Blake said, "Yang said she'd check in the front."

"They really can't have gotten far how long was that song?" Ruby asked.

Penny chuckled a little nervously.

"… Five minutes," The redhead admitted, "Plus the… Yeah…"

"Man they had to miss that part?" Ruby chuckled a little. She stared above the bushes trying to find a familiar pair of pigtails or anyone she could easily recognize from anywhere.

Minutes passed, too much time to be honest. Searching around the courtyard was taking forever, and with the joining of a lot more of the guests at the wedding, it seemed like they may not even have been there anymore.

Ruby could see the guilt in Penny's eyes as they walked side by side. She felt bad for her, but they could talk about it in a bit, top priority was finding out where the kids had gone off to.

Yet Ruby saw Blake's ears perk up followed by a muffled cry. Alarmed Blake and Ruby ran to the source of the sound. It was just around the side of the building the reception was in and there was Summer, staring up into a tree. Ilie stood just beside her with Wilma clutched to him. Dawn was also there, the four-year-old being held by Summer herself. In the tree though, was the mirror of Wilma, Winnie, and Idalia. The two were holding onto the branches for dear life.

"Summer Aviva Xiao-Long!" Ruby turned to see the crowd of people had reached around the side, and in the front was Ruby and Summer's dad, who'd pushed his way to the front to confront Summer.

This outta be interesting.

"What happened?" He asked, Summer shrugged her shoulders nervously.

"Idalia came up to me while Ruby and Penny were dancing and… She asked if we could go somewhere else because she was bored, and since I was bored I agreed that we could go outside and play in the garden and the others just… Sort of followed…" Summer explained, "The two of them decided it'd be cute to run off and climb a tree, and now Winnie and Idalia both are stuck."

"Well, that was still incredibly irresponsible of you, considering you are a part of this wedding, it isn't like any of the others you've been to that you could go off and do something else Summer," Her dad sighed facepalming. From the crowd out came Raven who went and stood next to Tai.

"It's fine, let's just go inside this is too big a scene," She said, picking up Dawn from Summer and handing her to Yang. The three were quick in walking through the crowd and soon enough Ruby turned back around to see Blake had climbed the tree and gotten Winnie and Idalia down.

"Back inside I guess," Penny mumbled to Ruby.

"Yup," Ruby said back. After a few moments, they were back inside. It felt warm inside, that or Penny was warm.

The next dance up with between the bride and the bride's father, in this case, Penny and Pietro. The dance was odder considering Pietro's chair but Ruby was happy that Penny was happy.

When the two had finished dancing they went into their normal dances. While everyone else danced Ruby felt a pang of sadness. Her mother she would've danced with, a groom and mom dance. But… Her mom wasn't here.

Her mom wasn't here for any of this.

She took a look around and noticed her dad walking back into the ballroom with Summer and Raven. Slight envy filled her as she batted her eye away from staring. Penny noticed the change in behavior in her newlywed wife and prompted a question Ruby didn't want to exactly answer right now.

"Are you okay?" Penny tilted her head, her eyes saddened.

"I'm fine, I just…" Ruby took a moment to take a deep breath, "I wish my mom were here for today…"

"Oh…" Penny looked over to Summer and Raven for a moment.

"I'll be honest, I don't think I ever want kids…" Ruby admitted.

"Whoa, Ruby we've been married for what, a few hours now? We don't have to think about that just yet," Penny said a bit shocked at the sudden statement.

"I know I just… I never want anyone else to go through what I've been through," Ruby looked away for a moment, "I feel bad… I… I'd worry too much."

"Well, don't worry Mrs. Rose-Polendina, your wife will love you no matter what you and I end up deciding, and if we have kids, alright! That's great! And if we don't, then oh well, it won't change our love," Penny said, "You should know that I'm always going to love you and that we'll still be here for each other." Ruby looked down a moment more before sighing and looking up, giving Penny a smile.

"Yeah… You're right," In the middle of a spin Ruby pulled Penny in for another hug, "I love you, you know that right?"

"Oh, I know, we're still the same two dolts in love after all," Penny warmly accepted the hug.

They loved each other.

No matter what happened nothing would end up changing it.

Nothing.

They were, like Penny just said, dolts.

Dolts in love.

Summer Rose? Mentioned? In the SONI-verse? It's more likely than you think

Anyways thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed it!

My poor Twitter oomfs had to suffer listening to me scream about this fic for the past few days while I solely fixated on writing it.
