Melody Maladapted

Chapter 2

Melanie(Mom)

After Professor McGonagall hung up on me, I just stood there unable to do anything. A couple minutes later the doorbell rang, but I could not open the door. Instead, I just stood there still holding the phone.

Soon, Lin answered the door, and screamed.

It was Lin's scream that brought me back to reality. I quickly dropped the phone, and ran over to Lin. At that moment I saw what Lin had screamed about

It was Professor McGonagall.

Madelin(Oldest)

Thinking back, I wished I hadn't opened that door. I wished that I'd've left the door closed. And I regretted every second after I opened the door. Not just because of the possibilities it opened in my life, but also the door it had opened in my heart.

I had been reading in my bed when the doorbell had rang. Usually, the amazon deliverers sometimes ring the doorbell once to let you know that your delivery is here, so I just ignored it. Then, it rang a second time. At that point I knew it wasn't a delivery, but still I was too wrapped up in my book, and didn't want to break my concentration. It rang again and again, and eventually I went to open the door.

Sighing, I had gotten out of bed, and went to answer the door.

I had opened the door, annoyed, but when I found Professor McGonagall transforming from cat to human, I had screamed. Screamed like I'd had my worst nightmare come true.

Professor McGonagall(Teacher)

As soon as I received the call, I knew that I had to do it. I knew I should get it done and over with. So when I took the call, I tried to keep my voice steady, and business like. After the call, I appeared at 228 Willow Drive. I turned into my animagus form, and rang the doorbell. I had to ring it 5times before somebody opened it. It was a 15ish looking girl who opened the door. She had screamed when she saw me turn into my human form again.

Soon, her mom came to her side, and we all sat down in the sitting room, to talk. I tried to concentrate on the point, but it was hard.

"Your daughter has been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," I began trying to sound calm.

"Wha..what do you mean?" the mom asked.

"It means she will attend Hogwarts if she wishes," I told her.

The girl who sat beside Mrs. Peters seemed terrified and shocked.

"I…" Mrs. Peters seemed at a loss for words.

"The process would be…" I searched for a good word. "Difficult, but I'm sure it won't be too bad. We're quite experts at this. We have dealt with other muggle-borns after all."

"So...It...It's real?" the girl whom I assumed was Mrs. Peter's daughter asked.

"I beg your pardon?" I asked.

"I...I mean," she stuttered, "Is it all real? Hogwarts? Harry Potter? Magic?"

"Well...Yes," I admitted.

The girl swallowed and asked, "Ho...How?"

"Well magic is a gift. Gift given to some people and not others," I finished awkwardly.

"Now, getting back to the point," I continued. "May I please see young Ms. Peters?"

"O..Of course," Mrs. Peters stuttered. She left the sitting room.

Madelin the older girl also left the room with her shoulders shaking and clumsy steps. Finally after a few minutes Melody came downstairs.

"Ms. Peters?" I asked.

"Yes," Melody answered.

"You are invited to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," I announced.

Melody(Middle Child)

When Professor McGonagall told me that I was invited to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I was shocked. I had known about Hogwarts because Lin had been big fans of the Harry Potter series. What I never thought was true was that the story could be real. That Hogwarts could be real. That magic could be real. How was I supposed to take all of this?

Finally I took a deep breath, looked at mom and asked, "Mom? Can I go?"

Mom bit her tongue and seemed to be thinking hard. Finally she answered, "Yes, you can Melody" Then hugged me tightly.

"So how does this work?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Well this weekend I will be here again to take you and your family to buy supplies in Diagon Alley," she explained. "There is no tuition fee and we will give you money to buy supplies if you need it. Any questions?

We shook her head.

"Good," Professor McGonagall said, "I will see you this weekend."

And with that she left the house.
