Chapter 2 The Bonds
Its been about a month since the temple emerged from the ground and since Sean was found inside.
At first Senna and Tonraq kept him till they could find out what to do with him but after seeing the quick and growing bond he and Korra had made they decided to keep him in the family and raised him making him believe he was from the Southern Water Tribe.
Still the White Lotus kept a close eye on him since clearly they could tell like Korra he was no ordinary child.
But nothing had happened in the month he had been found at least on the surface.
Still they kept a watchful eye on him.
Currently right now Sean was looking for Korra as they were playing Hide and seek.
"Korra!" Sean called out not seeing her in a lump of snow behind him as he passed her making her giggle but he clearly heard it making him grin.
"Sean." Senna said walking to him. "Have you seen Korra? I can't find her anywhere." Senna said making him look at the lump of snow making her grin seeing where he was going with this.
"No I don't know where she is." Sean said playing innocent.
"Thats too bad. I made her favorite lunch." Senna said making her eyes widen but refused to come out.
"I'll have it." Sean said before Korra jumped out in front of him.
"No way!" Korra yelled before realizing she had been had as Sean burst out laughing while Senna giggled covering her mouth.
"Busted." Sean laughed.
"Thats not fair!" Korra yelled.
"Oh and waterbending me is?" Sean asked making her pout.
"Anyway. Katara is looking for you. Said it's time for some more training." Senna said before both rushed off making her giggle.
While Katara was teaching Korra how to Water bend with form Sean noticed Tonraq talking with her brother Sokka.
But Sean's attention was on the sword on Sokka's side which was his Space Sword.
Thats when Sokka noticed where he was looking and laughed.
"Like it? It's made from a Meteorite." Sokka said pulling it out showing the black blade.
"Cool." Sean said.
"You know if you're interested I could show you a few things." Sokka said.
"Really?" Sean asked excited.
"Isn't he a little young for that?" Tonraq asked.
"It'll be a wooden sword so he doesn't hurt himself. I remember during the hundred year war I felt like I didn't fit in with my friends because I was a nonbender. Then I found my calling with Master Piandao." Sokka said as Korra was trying to mimic what Katara was doing when she accidentally sent a wave of snow at Sean.
"YIKES!" Sean yelled getting buried.
"Oops." Korra said before laughing as did the others as Sean's head poked out and glared at her. "Sorry." Korra said.
"I'll take the sword training to prove I can be just as good as a bender." Sean said.
"I think you'll have to wait." Tonraq said seeing a storm heading their way. "Theres a storm heading our way." Tonraq said.
"Aww." Korra whined.
Soon enough the family was inside when they heard howling outside.
"What is that?" Sean asked.
"Polar bear dogs." Senna said.
"Sounds like a whole pack of them." Tonraq said before Korra started mimicking the howling making Sean roll his eyes before dragging her inside as Tonraq shut the door.
"Hey! I wanna play with them!" Korra said annoyed.
"Oh sure play with vicious animals that would rather eat you than play." Sean said making the parents laugh at them.
"They don't scare me." Korra said.
"Nothing scares you." Sean said.
Later during the night the whole family was asleep before Korra was awakened by the sounds of howling making her get up before tiptoeing away before putting on some warmer clothes and went outside.
When she got outside however though.
"And just where do you think you're going?"
Korra froze before seeing Sean in warmer clothes grinning at her.
"Come on. Lets see if any of them are close by." Korra said making him shake his head in amusement.
"Fine. If for any other reason is to make sure they aren't too close to the house." Sean said making her grin before they rushed off.
Soon they came to a clearing before Korra took a closer look before seeing a Polar Bear dog pup walking alone making her gasp before rushing to it.
"Whoa hang on a second." Sean said following her.
"You're just a pup. Wheres your pack? Are you lost?" Korra asked as it growled.
"Korra. I don't like this." Sean said.
"We're not gonna hurt you. We're friendly." Korra said fishing out some fish jerky making it sniff it. "Do you like Fish Jerky?" Korra asked as it ate it. "Your not scary. Your just hungry." Korra said.
Sean laughed a little before bursting out laughing as Korra ran around like a dog around the pup.
Thats when they noticed the storm getting worse.
"Uh oh." Sean said.
"Which way is home?" Korra asked worried.
"I think we're all lost now." Sean said.
"Don't worry. I'll save us all. Because...I'm...The...AVATAR!" Korra yelled making an Igloo of snow before they went inside.
"Should have stayed home." Sean said shivering.
"Brr. Maybe some firebending might warm us up." Korra said taking a glove off.
"Wait..." Sean tried to say before she shot up some fire startling all of them. "That did not work." Sean said.
"Sorry. I'm not very good at Firebending yet." Korra said.
"You will." Sean said making her face him. "I got faith you'll get it in time." Sean said making her smile.
"I used to think being the Avatar was going to be fun but it's just a bunch of rules." Korra said before she felt something licking her hand making her look seeing the pup making her giggle. "That tickles." Korra said making Sean chuckle before they cuddled up around the pup who yawned.
Next morning
"Korra, Sean!" Tonraq called out.
Both parents when waking up noticed the two were missing and went to find them with Katara and Sokka.
"Tonraq over there! Doesn't that mound look like someone waterbent it?" Senna asked.
Tonraq was quick to rush to it before waterbending it and found them held up together to keep warm along with the pup shocking them before they woke up.
"Mmm." Sean said rubbing his eyes as Korra also woke up.
"There you both are." Tonraq pulling them out. "Do you two have any idea how worried we were?" Tonraq asked.
"I can't believe you both spent the entire night alone in that storm." Senna said.
"Uh we weren't exactly alone." Sean said as the pup came out.
"Naga was with us." Korra said as said pup barked.
"Naga?" Tonraq asked.
"She got separated from her pack last night." Sean said.
"So she needs a new family. Can we keep her?" Korra asked.
This made both parents look at each other.
"Ask your mother/Father." (Before anyone says anything no they did not actually adopt him. They just took him in is all)
"Thats not an answer." Sean said with a sweatdrop before Korra started playing with Naga making him laugh before Naga pounced on him. "Whoa!" Sean said in surprise making Korra laugh.
"You know. Every Avatar has had an animal guide in the past. Perhaps Naga is meant for Korra and what a high energy girl like her needs." Katara said.
"Well...I suppose." Tonraq said seeing the three play making them smile.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt." Senna said.
Days later
Sean was training with a wooden sword with Sokka while Korra was training with Katara somewhere.
To Sokka's surprise Sean seemed to mimic his movements perfectly as if he already knew what to do.
"Not bad. You may one day find yourself as an expert swordsman in the White Lotus." Sokka said impressed.
"I thought only benders were part of that group." Sean said.
"Oh no there are some non benders who master the art of a sword like my old teacher back during the hundred year war. Anyone can be a member if you got the right skills." Sokka said before he noticed someone walking into Tonraq's home as did Sean.
"Who's he?" Sean asked.
"Oh thats Tonraq's younger brother Unalaq. They don't exactly have what most would call a stable relationship." Sokka said as Sean went to his home.
"So I see you decided to give Korra spiritual training." Unalaq said.
"Uh no. Thats not why I called you down here. It's doesn't even involve her directly." Tonraq said.
"Hmm? Then why did you ask for my help?" Unalaq asked.
Senna was about to answer when she spotted Sean.
"You said it was rude to interrupt people." Sean said making her smile.
"True. Let's go outside for a minute." Senna said leading him outside.
"Who was that?" Unalaq asked curious.
"Thats Sean. He's the reason we called you down here. Theres something we need your opinion on." Tonraq said confusing him.
Later
"Your saying you found him in this temple in a block of ice. And his mother suddenly turned to green dust?" Unalaq asked as they were outside the temple.
"Yes. She asked us to protect him and we've taken him in. Korra's already become attached to him and him with her. But we have no idea where he's from or when." Tonraq said.
"I see. And you think this might have something to do with the spirits?" Unalaq asked.
"Maybe. I just want an honest opinion about what we're dealing with." Tonraq said.
"I'll see what I can find." Unalaq said as he entered the temple while Tonraq left.
Entering the temple he was quick to notice the statues of people clearly not Avatars having studied most of them.
Thats when he arrived in the chamber where they found him.
"Why would someone hide him in here?" Unalaq asked himself.
However thats when he saw ancient writing on the walls before he began to read it having some knowledge in this but most of it was destroyed due to the work of time.
When he finished however he widened his eyes before narrowing them dangerously.
Meanwhile
Sean continued to train with Sokka who was impressed by his skill.
"Very good. At this rate we might be ready to give you a real sword." Sokka said making him grin.
"Cool." Sean said before a blast of water hit him making him skid on the snow shocking Sokka. "Korra what the..." Sean tried to say before he saw it was Unalaq who attacked him before he tried again.
"What do you think you're doing!" Sokka yelled before Unalaq water bended him away before attacking Sean again but he quickly dodged.
"What are you doing?" Sean asked in shock.
"You need to be put down." Unalaq said before using Water bending to surround his head to drown him as Sean gasped for air.
Only for someone to waterbend Unalaq.
"What are you doing!" Tonraq yelled as Senna rushed to Sean who coughed trying to get air into his lungs.
"You need to remove that thing now. You have no idea what that is." Unalaq said.
"What are you talking about? I didn't bring you down here so you could kill him." Tonraq said glaring at him.
"That thing is part of a dark legend. You need to remove it now." Unalaq said as Senna glared at him.
"He's not a thing. This a little boy." Senna said.
"For now. You don't understand. That BOY is gonna cause nothing but trouble in years to come unless you remove him." Unalaq said.
"What are you talking about?" Tonraq asked.
"It doesn't matter. You need to remove him or I will." Unalaq said before Tonraq water bended him making him skid back before holding his chest in pain before Tonraq restrained him.
"If you ever do this again. You're gonna regret it. His mother begged us to protect him when she died and thats what we intend to do...Leave." Tonraq said making him glare.
"Even after all these years you're still misguided." Unalaq said.
"I'm not the one trying to kill an innocent boy. Leave now." Tonraq said glaring at him.
"Fine. I can only hope your daughter will listen to reason." Unalaq said.
"You stay away from her. Both of them." Tonraq said making him glare before he left.
"Mmm." Sean said holding his head.
"It's ok." Senna said holding him.
Later
"I can't believe my own brother tried to kill him like that." Tonraq said watching Sean outside as he sat down.
"What legend was he talking about exactly?" Senna asked.
"Who knows. He was obsessed with things like that that it was hard to keep track of them all. It's part of the reason we never saw eye to eye." Tonraq said before Korra tackled Sean down making him laugh making the parents smile seeing he was already forgetting the past events. "I asked the White Lotus to make sure if he comes back to keep a close eye on him. They agreed to keep him at a distance." Tonraq said.
Sean and Korra laughed as they played in the snow before Naga pounced on Sean making him laugh before Korra did the same.
Days later
After Unalaq had tried to kill Sean out some fear of an ancient legend everything seemed back to normal. Though the White Lotus kept a closer eye on Sean and Korra after that stunt and made sure they were both kept close to insure their safety.
Currently right now Tonraq was meeting with Tenzin, Fire Lord Zuko and Sokka.
"I still can't believe your own brother attempted to kill him over some old legend." Sokka said.
"Believe me I know. I can hardly believe it myself." Tonraq said not happy about that.
"What exactly is this old legend he was referring to?" Zuko asked.
"Honestly I have no idea but it doesn't matter. He had no right to do that. " Tonraq said.
While this was going on however though four people arrived in the South.
"They are here. We capture them both." The leader said.
"What about the other other one he told us to kill?"
"If he's who I think he is we can use him to our advantage."
Within the temple however though a statue glowed for a brief moment before someone appeared from thin air. He had Ash like Skin and dark eyes with a Red mark on his body and face as well as a deep scar on his right eye.
This person however growled before vanishing.
The four were getting closer to their objective before he appeared before them.
"Who are you?" The man asked glaring at them in anger.
"My name is Zaheer. These are my comrades. P'li, Ghazan and Ming-Hua. We have come for the Avatar and the Boy. We know who he is." Zaheer said making him growl.
"So out of the way old man." Ming-Hua said as she used both her arms to use waterbending to attack him but he dodged.
"You will not lay a hand on my son." He said before charging at them before P'li used firebending on him but he jumped over it before roaring as he smashed his fist into the ground creating a large crater which shocked them at the sheer force.
Tonraq and the others felt this before they rushed outside.
Ming-Hua quickly tried to attack him but he kept dodging with great ease.
"Who the hell are you anyway?" P'li asked.
"I am Kratos." Kratos said before punching her in the face sending her crashing into wall hard making her cough up blood from the sheer force of the hit before he grabbed her and slammed her down multiple times before she used combustion bending but he turned her head and made her hit Ghazan making him yell in shock as he skid across the snow.
Tonraq and the others arrived and saw this.
"Stay away from my son!" Kratos roared as he punched Zaheer hard in the face making him grunt in pain as he tried to slash him but failed before Kratos grabbed him and roared as he slammed him down hard before throwing him at P'li.
Thats when he roared as Ming-Hua stabbed him in the back making her grin as she pulled back but widened her eyes seeing no blood.
"What the hell are you?" Ming-Hua asked before he grabbed both her arms.
"Someone who will not let the past repeat itself." Kratos said before pulling her arms off making her shriek in agonizing pain while her friends looked in shock before Ghazan roared as he used rocks and turned them into lava which he dodged before jumping up and punched him down knocking him out.
Thats when a Water Whip nearly hit him making him look seeing Ming-Hua with water arms glaring at him before trying to strike him but he dodged before punching her in the face hard making her fly into wall knocking her out.
Thats when Zaheer tried to slash him but Kratos roared as he grabbed him before kneeing him in the face making him groan before Kratos threw him at P'li knocking them both out.
Kratos looked at his defeated foes before sighing as he fell to his knees before the others rushed to him.
"Are you ok?" Tonraq asked before he tried to grab him but his hand went right through.
"My time grows short. I only had enough strength to stop them...To protect my son." Kratos said.
"Your son? Sean?" Tonraq asked.
"Yes...I am his father. His mother was placed in that temple to protect them both. I died shortly before that. You...Have raised him better than I could. But be warned...One day they will come for him out of fear. He is a threat to them. But a hope to everyone else. He is the last hope this world has." Kratos said before he vanished.
"Clearly theres more to that boy than his mother let on if his own father came back to protect him." Zuko said stroking his beard.
"Hmm." Tonraq said before heading back to his home to check on them.
Entering his home he found Sean and Korra asleep with Naga making him smile.
"Whats wrong?" Senna asked.
"Um." Tonraq tried to say.
Later
After that incident all four were placed in prisons built to contain them.
However Tonraq grew suspicious of his brother since no one even knew Korra was the next Avatar or about Sean but those who could be trusted and him.
Of course Unalaq tried to defend himself but Tonraq wouldn't hear it and threatened him that if another incident like this occurred all eyes would be pointed at him and put under an investigation.
Still Unalaq kept insisting Sean was a threat and needed to be dealt with but nothing he said would persuade him otherwise.
Right now Senna smiled seeing Sean and Korra training with Katara and Sokka Separately. It may not have been the normal family she wanted at first but she still loved this family regardless.
"There he is." Tonraq said as he walked to her.
"What is it?" Senna asked.
"Tenzin has found someone who might be able to unlock his memories. If we can find out where or when he's from we can understand more about what we're dealing with." Tonraq said.
"I don't know. What if his mother locked them for a reason?" Senna asked concerned they might be making the wrong choice.
"Only we'll be able to see his memories. He won't unlock them for him until he's ready." Tonraq said.
"All right." Senna said.
Arriving inside a hut Sean was on his back asleep as a Guru placed candles around him.
"Your sure this isn't gonna hurt him?" Senna asked concerned for his well being.
"Absolutely. All we are doing is looking into his memories and find out exactly where and when he is from." The Guro said before lighting the candles up before they turned into a variety of colors before he began some chant.
"The Ancients once used this method to look deep inside the memories of people they suspected committed unforgivable crimes. Not many people even remember this." Tenzin said before the the whole place changed seeing ancient buildings.
"Odd...I'm not familiar with these lands." The Guru said before the whole place exploded as the people screamed in horror shocking them all before more cities appeared only to be destroyed by various events. One was completely washed away by the ocean and the other engulfed in flames or plagued with diseases and attacked by monsters they were unfamiliar with in the most cruel ways
Every memory he had showed nothing but the horrors of death.
"Thats enough!" Senna said pulling him off as he slept peacefully as the memories stopped.
"What kind of horrors did he go through?" The Guru asked in shock.
"Now we know why his mother locked his memories." Tonraq said as Senna held him. "No child should remember that." Tonraq said.
"Indeed. We keep this to ourselves." Tenzin said.
Later
Both Sean and Korra slept with Naga while Senna watched over them.
"You ok?" Tonraq asked.
"No. All those horrible things he saw growing up from whenever he's from. It's a miracle he survived any of it." Senna said.
"I know. But he's with us now and he's safe." Tonraq said holding her close.
Authors Note: Oh boy. So a lot of surprises came in this chapter and. Unalaq tried to kill him out of some fear and Sean's father appeared and stopped the Red Lotus before they even got close to him and Korra and we learned Sean was from an era of horror.
