Harry was cycling with his friends Magnus and Kristin on a fine afternoon. The months of June, July and August had the most pleasant days of the year, not just because of the long days, mild sunny climate but also because they were when Harry had his year break, which meant no school, cycling and skating with friends and most importantly, the time of the year when Uncle G gave Harry most of the lessons. It was just a few days back that Harry had turned 15. Uncle G had secretly invited some of Harry's school friends including Magnus and Kristin in the middle of the night to give Harry a surprise birthday party. It wasn't that big a surprise since he had "surprise" birthday parties every year since he was 7, but it was still one of the days he looked forward to the most. Ever since the summer break started, Harry, Magnus and Kristin would either cycle all day long or cycle to the lake to go swimming. But there was another thing, that especially Harry and Magnus had started doing recently. Iceland was a great tourist spot this time of the year, and that meant girls from all over the world that they could make friends with. It was one of those times that Harry saw this beautiful girl sitting in a cafe.
{They talk in Icelandic, but I'll be writing their conversation in English! Harry speaks Icelandic, only with his friends. Other times, unless specified otherwise, he's speaking English.}
Harry had slowed down completely compared to Magnus, distracted by the face he saw of the girl from 20 feet. He had to slow down and have a better look at her.
"Bro! Harry, what are you doing?" asked Magnus looking back at Harry after stopping. He then looked towards the direction where Harry was looking. There was a vehicle blocking his view, so he went towards Harry. And then he saw what Harry was seeing.
"Magnus, wish me luck!" said Harry.
"You don't need luck brother," replied Magnus. But Harry still stood there looking at her.
"What are you still here for?" asked Magnus.
"I can't do it, what am I supposed to say to her?" asked Harry.
"Just go with the flow! She's definitely a tourist, which means she doesn't know this place, which is what you do know," replied Magnus. Harry sighed and crossed the street to make his way to the cafe. Magnus followed him though he maintained a good enough distance. Harry walked towards the brown-haired girl, a million thoughts running through his mind, things like what to say, how to begin were running through his head. The girl was about his age, probably a year older, maybe the same age. She was gazing absentmindedly, probably just enjoying the weather. Just as he was about to get near her, to his horror, he saw an adult joining her at her table.
"Where did her mother come from?" thought Harry to himself and quickly crossed her and went inside the cafe.
"Dude, what are you doing?" asked Magnus the moment he entered the cafe.
"What do you mean?"
"Why didn't you talk to her?"
"How was I supposed to talk to her? Her mother was right there," replied Harry.
"So?"
Harry looked at Magnus as if that was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. Magnus however gave a look of disappointment towards him. But just then Magnus saw something.
"You, my friend, are very lucky," said Magnus and nudged Harry to look at who was coming towards them, it was the girl. The girl was clearly approaching them and seeing that Magnus wished Harry luck and bid him goodbye.
"Hi, I saw you staring at me," said the girl.
"You did?... I mean, No! I wasn't looking at you... I wasn't..." fumbled Harry terrified of saying something wrong, but ended with "I was"
"So, you know English!" said the girl.
"And, it seems, so do you," replied Harry, getting more and more comfortable as the conversation went by.
"I do, so you live here?" she asked.
"I uh… live about 20 minutes away from here," replied Harry.
"That's nice," replied the girl.
Harry and the girl stood there and talked for a long time, well definitely long enough for him to be extremely comfortable and engrossed in the conversation. She seemed nice, she was vacationing in Iceland with her parents. She was the same age as Harry, so that made things easier. In the middle of their conversation, she had told her mother to leave without her and that she'd join her later. So, when Harry's guardian came, the girl was alone with Harry. What happened next, none of them could have seen coming. It all happened so fast. The moment Harry's guardian came to the cafe, he saw Harry and waved his hands at him. When he saw that Harry was talking to a girl, like the curious guardian he was, he decided to join the conversation between the teens. But, the moment he came near them, his face changed from giggling to serious. It was almost as if he had found something out about the girl. So, he rushed towards them, held Harry with his right and the girl with his left hand and apparated. Grindelwald had apparated with Harry and the girl to their mansion. The moment they reached, Harry took a breath and looked at Grindelwald.
"What the hell was that? Why did you apparate me here?" he asked and then realised that Grindelwald had apparated the girl too. But Grindelwald wasn't listening to Harry. He was focused on the girl, who herself looked a bit disoriented.
"Stupefy" shouted Grindelwald pointing his wand at the girl. She got flung backwards and fell with a thud. Grindelwald hit the girl with a couple more spells, and at the end of it all, she was unconscious, her hands were tied behind her back and she was tied to a pillar.
"Uncle G! What are you doing? Why have you tied her up?" asked Harry shocked. He made a move towards the girl but got pushed back by Grindelwald's spell who was standing 10 feet away from him.
"Master Potter! Are you alright?" asked Grindelwald.
"Am I alright? Of course, I am alright, but what are you doing?" asked Harry frantically.
"This," said Grindelwald pointing at the girl, "this person right here, is a witch" Grindelwald replied.
"What? How do you know?"
"Not the question you should be asking. The question you should be asking is, who is she, and what was she doing here," replied Grindelwald.
"Okay! Who is she?"
"I don't know, but we're about to find out," said Grindelwald and walked towards the girl, cast a spell at her, and she woke up with a jolt. She looked around and could see the boy she was talking to and an old man. It took her a few seconds, but she realised soon enough that her arms were tied behind her back, and that she was also tied to something. She tried very hard to free herself but failed.
"Who are you? Why have you tied me up? Harry! What is this?" asked Hermione in a throaty and shaky voice. There were tears in her eyes now, and she was looking extremely afraid.
"Who are you? And what are you doing here?" asked Grindelwald pointing his wand at her.
"I am Hermione Granger, a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, LET ME GO!" she replied, still trying to set herself free.
"Okay, what are you doing here?"
"None of your business," she replied. "If you don't let me go now, you'll be in serious trouble," she added.
"Uncle G! Why are you doing this?"
"Master P… Harry, check her arm," replied Grindelwald.
Harry rushed towards Hermione and whispered, "I am so sorry! Would you mind if I checked your arm?" asked Harry and proceeded to roll up her sleeves. Hermione didn't seem to offer any resistance. Harry looked at both arms, but there was nothing of note.
"What am I looking for?" asked Harry.
"The Dark Mark," replied Grindelwald.
"The Dark Mark? I don't have the dark mark," replied Hermione.
"Uncle G, there's nothing here," added Harry. And with that Grindelwald released her free.
"Apologies Miss," said Grindelwald. Hermione looked slightly relieved with how things had gone. She was afraid there for a second that she was captured by Voldemort's death eaters, but that wasn't the case.
"What the hell? Why did you do that? What sort of monster are you?" asked Hermione angrily.
"Not a monster, just a careful guardian," replied Grindelwald. With that Hermione stormed out of the mansion.
"Do you realise how dumb that was? She was just a random witch," said Harry and rushed after her.
"Hermione! HERMIONE! Wait a minute," said Harry as he went after her. He caught up with her in a few seconds. "Listen to me," he said as he got in front of her and started walking backwards facing her.
"You seem nice, but that guy is a Psychopath and I don't need this in my life, certainly not now," she said and kept walking.
"I am so sorry, I had no idea he'd do anything like that. He has never done anything remotely close to this before, you have to believe me," said Harry.
"Do I look like I care?"
"Okay, Listen! You have no idea where you're going. I'll come with you to guide you to that cafe. And you can go wherever you want after that," said Harry. He got no response, but it was obvious that Hermione had accepted Harry's offer. They walked in silence for about 10-15 minutes and they reached the cafe.
"I have never met a witch or a wizard other than my uncle," said Harry. He got no response, but he continued, "I bet Hogwarts is awesome." There was still no response.
"Bye, see you later," said Harry.
"I hope not," she replied and walked away. Harry looked around but couldn't see Magnus anywhere, so he took his cycle and went home to have a pointed conversation with Gellert Grindelwald. Harry reached home, and the moment he entered the house, he shouted,
"UNCLE G!"
Grindelwald walked into the hall and said, "Yes Master Potter"
"Seriously, what was that? Why would you do something like that?"
"Can't take any risks," he replied.
"She was a random witch who was just vacationing here," replied Harry.
"Master Potter! Do you know why we live here?"
"What do you mean?"
"Do you know what's special about this town?"
"No"
"Exactly, there isn't anything special about this town, actually, there is not a single magical resident in this town apart from the both of us," he replied. "Do you think that's a coincidence?"
"No, obviously that's not a coincidence," replied Harry.
"Exactly! Imagine my shock, when I saw a witch talking to you at the local cafe. I had to be careful," replied Grindelwald.
"How did you even know that she was a witch?"
"It's a difficult skill, I sensed magic in her, one day you will be able to do it too," replied Grindelwald.
Far away, there was a meeting going on between a group of wizards.
"Professor! I have some information on the Dark Lord," said Snape.
"Still calling him the Dark Lord, are we Severus?" asked Sirius Black.
"Sirius, give it a rest," said Remus.
"What's the information, Severus?" asked Dumbledore.
"We now know how he came back," said Snape. After a momentary pause, he continued, "I assume you may be aware of the ritual… Bone, Flesh, and Blood from the Father, Servant and Foe to Renew, Revive and Resurrect," he finished.
"Blood of the enemy forcibly taken," added Dumbledore. "What about the muggle-born kids?" asked Dumbledore.
"Dead, all 7 of them," replied Severus.
