Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Medical Mercy. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Bleach, Tite Kubo and a few others do.
Gaidon looked up from his post. Captain Unohana had yet to return from her meeting. It worried him, but she was the captain. He awaited her return as did the rest of the division.
He cracked his knuckles and then sighed. The mounting sicknesses of the reapers worried him as it did her. Whoever had started this virus or whatever it was frightened him.
"Gaidon?" He heard which caused his head to perk up from his station.
"Captain Unohana!?" Gaidon almost screeched as he sighed and then turned to look to the side. "I'm sorry I didn't hear you come back!" Gaidon said with a deep bow.
He hummed and watched the former captain walk over towards him. The doctor hummed and brushed off his suit.
"I didn't think any staff would stick around." Retsu stated as Gaidon hummed and shrugged.
"We still have plenty of work to do, captain Unohana." Gaidon said as he leaned on the wall. "And I swore that I would not rest till it is done…. Whatever ailment is effecting the reapers? I don't know enough about it to figure out how to beat it." Gaidon stated while humming.
He was tired, that much was clear from the bags under his eyes. However? Retsu knew for a fact that Gaidon was clearly focused about his duty. He kept on the duty which he was assigned.
"There's things to be done, captain Unohana." Gaidon stated while he waved his hands back and forth. "I'll go home when we find a weakness in it." Gaidon said and brushed his hands off on his robes.
"Gaidon…" Retsu said as the reaper looked up at her with amusement.
"Not going to leave even if I'm terrified, captain." Gaidon stated and turned back to his work. "If your going to be working 24/7? So am I. I have plenty of work to do until then. Remember? Many of your subordinates are busy hammering away on medicine anyway." Gaidon said before his smile gave way to a frown.
"Very well…" Retsu said, knowing that her subordinate would continue working anyway. "Anything you've uncovered since my meeting? Any research?" Retsu asked as she crossed her arms.
"Little things, captain." Gaidon reported while sighing as he hummed. "Like how it seems to be airborne. It's eating away at them, we've stabilized them…. But it seems like we cant get it out of them. I'm not sure how the virus is effecting our soldiers at the moment." Gaidon said while Retsu rubbed at her temples.
She knew very that Gaidon was loyal to her. He still called her captain despite her losing the position. He was a mediocre soldier, but a very skilled doctor.
"Is it created by the hollows?" Retsu asked while Gaidon looked over the remnant of virus. "Perhaps a new way to kill reapers and weaken them?" Retsu asked as Gaidon held up the vial.
"I'm not entirely sure, Captain Unohana." Gaidon said and pushed himself from his station. "But I am going to keep analyzing the substances. I'm sure your going to want that sent to your office?" Gaidon asked and got a nod.
"Yes. That will be acceptable." Retsu pointed out to which Gaidon hummed. "And Gaidon? If your not going home? 4-hour shifts, you're not the only doctor in the medical division. Your getting some sleep before you go back to investigating." Retsu stated as he hummed.
"I'll make no promises with all due respect, captain." Gaidon stated before be let out a yawn. "I know for a fact that I might keep pushing myself…. I'm sorry, I handle whatever the reapers need. You know I put our own first. Plus? I'm loyal to you and everyone in this part of the society." Gaidon said before he went to go and get some sleep.
Retsu watched her trusted subordinate leave. He would allow her to handle things. Retsu couldn't fault him for being dedicated, it was good to see some new blood on the frontlines of any war.
"Hmm…" Retsu muttered to herself as she sighed and turned towards her office. "Sometimes I wonder if he's going to work himself to death." Retsu said as she brushed off her robes and hummed.
Retsu walked towards her office. Gaidon would work on what he could at the moment and then retire. He'd go to the guest quarters when it came down to it. Retsu knew Gaidon would be tired and he couldn't ignore it.
"There's a lot to dissect." Retsu said as she shook her head to the side.
Retsu smiled once more while thinking to herself. She couldn't rest with things to slowly pick through at the moment. It wasn't even close to being over at the moment. This new war was different, it would be long and painful.
Retsu settled in for a long battle with the virus.
Author Notes
Phew. Another chapter done! I want to point out that next chapter will be different and delayed by several months or so. Next chapter will be 900 words and will show more bonding between Retsu and Gaidon. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
P.S: Next chapter is in August or such and I am making a Rukia and updating the Sui Feng story soon enough.
