Peashooter stepped out of the RV and glanced around at their new home, the 'Backyard' as Dave calls it. It's a large, enclosed area surrounded by tall hedges with five large automatic gates stationed around it. One was in the front, two at the sides and two more in the back. They all sported a green leaf symbol, and only a plant can open them. The Backyard is slightly slanted since it's on a small hill. The center is flat, with it dipping slightly down in the front and going higher in the back.
Peashooter wandered to the center of the Backyard as the others followed Dave. As he stood in the center, he slid his gaze around him, observing. To the right of him was the 'Mission Board', a place where the plants can select challenges and earn rewards called 'stars'. The 'stars' just lets them open whatever random chest they may come across while exploring outside the Backyard. To the left of him was a small sentient mailbox that sat on top of a small ledge. The hill continues to dip to the right and left of that said ledge to the (rather large) entrance. Diagonal to Peashooter stood the portal which Dave installed not to long ago. It had weird blue markings and symbol sprawled around it, and the symbols moved along the portals arch.
Peashooter once again found himself wondering how this all came to be. How did Dave get this stuff? How did Dave find this place? Where is this place anyways!?
When did this war get so bad they had to abandon their first (and only) home?
Peashooter jumped when he heard someone call his name. Turning around, he saw Sunflower waving to him from the garage's entrance, and once she saw Peashooters nod, she went inside. As he slowly made his way towards the flower, he looked at Dave's precious RV. It was parked in front of the garage, on its own little platform. It had wings with engines installed on the side of it along with thrusters that propelled it into the air. Along with the huge pan on top it, it looked weird, and Peashooter once again wondered how far Crazy Dave's insanity went.
Well, he was called 'Crazy Dave' for a reason, he mused.
The garage isn't that far, just down the hill and a few feet away from one of the side entrances. It would be his first time going into the garage, and as much as he loves to explore, there's a small feeling within him that's saying;
'You're probably not gonna like this ensuing conversation. You should probably try to avoid it.'
But.
How bad could it really be?
And plus, he can't just suddenly skip on this—what he's guessing—important meeting taking place in a messy, dirty garage.
God, he hated this place.
He wanted to be back home. His real home.
But it doesn't exist anymore. It's gone. It was invaded, and it's gone now. Why can't you just accept that?
(He can't accept it, he won't accept it, he can't, it's not true, it's not true, it's not—why is everything he loves disappearing—)
He's stopped near the garage, taking in the old peeling paint, the fresh air, the gentle breeze flowing through him, around him.
He's just so high-strung, so stressed, so…unlike himself.
For the first time, Peashooter needs to take a step back, and relax. Quickly. He's pretty sure Sunflower's about to appear any second now to drag him inside, and being caught standing near the door like an idiot is sure to raise some suspicions.
(Not like he has to hide anything, no sirree, he just has some things that he wants to keep to himself. Away from prying eyes and ears. Okay, maybe he has a few secrets but Sunflower doesn't need to know that)
Speaking of which,
Peashooter looked up as Sunflower stepped out of the garage, locking eyes with him only after surveying the whole Backyard. It was just a few seconds, since being a healer means that she has to look around the whole battlefield quickly and diligently, find someone who's wounded and get there fast, no matter what.
It reminds him how different it was, during the first Garden Warfare, when they were still young and inexperienced. How Sunflower got distracted by basically anything and everything, how Peashooter would run around like a puppy on steroids, jumping on anything and everything that would've supported his weight.
Enough. Pay attention, you need to get through this. Those times are over, this is serious, things have changed now and they're not changing back.
Right.
"I was just about to go inside, sorry for keeping you guys waiting."
Sunflower only looked at him, up and down. And then she looked, really looked, and Peashooter was trying his damn hardest not to break eye contact, because that's what she wants, isn't it? Her job is to heal, physically and mentally, and Peashooter is someone who needs healing.
She needs to find out what needs to be healed.
Peashooter isn't going to let her.
A brief uncomfortable pause passed of them just staring at each other, trying to make the other break, before a small huff escaped Sunflower's lips and she looked away, hunching slightly as if all the fight left her. She looked up at Peashooter and gently smiled.
"We're just grouping up in here for now, apparently Crazy Dave wants to talk about some important things regarding new members, new zombies, and the new house."
Great.
Just great.
The second thing he could handle. New zombies? No big deal, just shoot 'em in the head. The first one—eh, he's dealt with new members before, as long as they don't become permanent it should be fine—but the third one?
The third one?
The thing that's been bothering him ever since the invasion?
That he could maybe—well, no, he couldn't really handle that one, could he?
Trying his best to school his expression—to keep it neutral, since he knows that Sunflower is watching him right now, observing, waiting—he nodded.
"When'll we start?"
