"Error is prone to humans but humans are not prone to error"

Chapter two

Present day (2016)

I tracked the target through my scope. I looked back down at the file in my lap. The details of his face matched the photo. I picked up my gun placing it in position and immediately pulled the trigger without a second thought. It shot right through his heart. I don't hesitate. It was another successful mission. We're not supposed to stay in the past but I used to right down all the names of the victims I've killed on my walls until I ran out of space. It was sort of like a parting ritual for me. Pretty soon into my career the bodies started to pile up and I stopped caring. At least it was for a cause.

I packed up my equipment and started making my way out of the building. I crossed off the name off my least happy it was the last one for the day. I walked through the city taking the long route back to the hydra base. The less time I spend there the better. The city was alive today. Bright lights were flickering and musicians were playing folk tunes on the streets. If you looked at me you would have seen a happy fifteen year old skipping down the block. Maybe I got an A on my algebra test or my parents finally got me that new car I was always asking about. You would have never thought that thirty minutes ago someone died at my hands. You could say that you really don't know what anybody else on the street has been up too either. You should never trust a stranger or even a friend fully. They always seem to stab you in the back at the least convenient time.

I took a left on Oak and there I was, the hydra base. It's not the one I grew up in, that one happened to be more remote. It looked like any other building. It's like a needle in a haystack. If you didn't specifically know it was there you would never find it. I opened the door and walked in. The building was disguised as a lobby to a motel. I went to the side of the room and waved my wrist at the wall. It scanned the chip in my arm and the split in half. You could hear the gears and sprockets shift as it opened.

I walked In and Ian greeted me with a wave.

I smiled back. The guy was nice but I wasn't in the mood for a conversation. I pushed past him heading for my quarters. He grabbed my wrist and I looked at him confused. If he were anyone else I would have broken his wrist by now.

"Wait," He said

"What do you want Ian I'm not in the…" I spat back before he interrupted me.

"A new mission from corporate just arrived for you. It seems you left a good impression on them,"He spoke handing me the file.

I took it from his hands and glanced down at the top. Classified written in bold red ink. Of course I left a good impression on them. I'm the best on the job, some even argue I'm better than the Winter Soldier. I have yet to fall a mission. I'm one of HYDRA's success stories. Not everyone happens to make it through the training process and those that do are often influenced to change by outside sources. I guess that's why taking children was so effective. We have no baggage. No friends or family to pull us out. HYDRA is our life and nothing can change that.

"Thank you," I beamed back.

He gave me a quick nod and I got out of there as fast as possible. I collapsed on my bed and closed my eyes just for a bit. Taking in the silence. It was rare to have a quiet moment where I had nothing to do. I must have jinxed myself because right at that moment the smoke alarm went off.

"Sorry, False alarm," someone shouted.

"Idiot," I mumbled to myself.

Some of the people here are twice my age and they don't even know how to cook without starting a fire.

I opened the file glancing at the first few pages. It was something about stealing. The usual stuff. Then I glance over it. I had to steal the Tesseract located at the Avenger Tower, one of the most secure places in the world. How the hell was I supposed to do that. This was just great. I plumitted my face into my pillow. This was going to be a long night.

The next day I googled everything I could about the Avengers, most importantly Tony Stark. Stark Industries wasn't even that far away. I searched everything I could on him. Tony Stark billionaire playboy plantripist takes over fathers company. Tony Stark announces that Stark industries will no longer produce weapons. Tony Stark goes missing. Tony Stark reveals his Iron Man. You get the picture. There was something I could work with though there seemed to be a lot of pictures of him with some kid. Possibly around my age. I used photo recognition software on him to find out his name. Peter. Peter Parker. If I had a normal life maybe I would be just a regular girl stocking their crushes social media page but that wasn't the case. He had chocolate brown hair and a quirky smile in every photo. I had a hard time connecting the two. Why would Tony Stark have anything to do with this kid. Was he his son? I don't think so, they didn't even have the same last name. Maybe it was a secret perhaps? I found Peter's Instagram and started to scroll through. Apparently he was an intern at Stark Industries. Why would the CEO of a company care so much about a single intern when he probably had thousands. The kids Instagram didn't add up either. He had photos that were taken on top of hundred foot skyscrapers. How did he manage to get up there? Was he one of thoses dare devils that got a thrill of climbing high buildings? There were so many questions racing in my head but there were two vital pieces of information I got. He's address and school, Midtown high.

I decided it would be best to track his movement. See where he was during the day. I found his apartment and set up on the roof two buildings away from the complex. I had my binoculars with me. To anyone who happened to see me. I just looked like a happy bystander birding watching. It was quite slow at first nothing really happened. I was waiting for Peter to get back from school. I zoomed in and turned my binoculars a little to the left and caught sight of a red head walking into the building. She was wearing pink nursing scrubs and seemed to be in a hurry. It must be Peter's aunt May. I saw her in some pictures they took together. About thirty minutes later Peter got out of a car and headed in. This was it. I had to really focus now. Before I was just waiting for him to get home but now the real steakout had begun.

It didn't take long for Peter to rush out of the building. He looked like he was in a hurry. I started running after him; jumping from rooftop to rooftop until he stopped in an alley. He placed his backpack down and started grabbing at what looked like red fabric. He started taking off his shirt and pants which made me blush. He really did have abs for days though. Not that I was into that or something. He started putting on the loose fabric. It looked like a jumpsuit three sizes too big. Then he pressed the center button and it conformed to his body. I was a little shocked. He positioned his wrist into the air and fired what looked like to be a white web looking fluid that stuck onto the wall. He did it again climbing higher into the air. Crap. That's when I realized that if I didn't move he would see me. I started running to the back of the roof where the door was. It was locked. There was nowhere to hide. In a split second decision I ran to the edge and jumped down grabbing the rail of the roof with my hands. Moments later a red figure jumped in the air swinging away down the block. That was a close call.

I went back to the base and opened my laptop. I went ahead and searched Queens, New York superhero. Nothing came up. Superhero in red. Still nothing. Then I remember the features on his suit. There were web patterns and designs that almost resembled a spider. Spider Queens, New York super hero. Bing there he was. Spiderman. That would explain the picture of those buildings. Peter really should be more careful of what he posts.

Authors note

That's it for chapter two. Here Talia finds out her next mission. You can see her struggle with wanting to have a normal life, often comparing her self to a typical teenage girl. She doesn't really know a lot about the Avengers. Which makes her question a lot of things. The next chapter will either be some more of her childhood form HYDRA or some interactions with Peter and his friends. You'lljust have to wait and see.
