"I'm scared."
It was the first time someone said something. It was dark. She could see nothing. She only knew that he was beside her, his body next to hers, in that tiny space.
"You should be. Things are terrifying as fuck right now." He whispered. His voice was husky.
"What is happening? Who are they?"
"I don't know, mate, but keep your voice low so they don't hear us."
She stopped talking, her hands trembling. She was not in her best shape after the weird potions and cocktails she drank before everything turned upside down.
Shite.
She didn't know who was with her, that man beside her. Their masks were protecting them, or it looked like it. People took it off and went missing.
For an instant, her thought wandered to everybody at that party; her brothers, her cousins and friends. Almost every person she loved was there.
A warm hand covered hers "I cannot apparate here, can you?" Asked the guy in a lowered tone.
She shook her head.
"No, but I know that if we find my brothers, maybe they…"
He did not let her complete.
"Quiet!"
She heard steps echoing in the corridor and the door opening. The steps were louder and she could hear a deep male voice saying something she couldn't discern. Following him, there were more rushed steps and a woman's voice responding. They went silent and started poking things.
The intruders were closer. When they spoke again, she made sense of what was being said.
"Do you think there's anyone here? I think they went elsewhere."
"Better safe than sorry." said the guy and she knew that voice. Before, and since she was on potions, she wasn't recognising, but now she realised and ignoring the man by her side pulling her hand, she threw herself at him.
The man she was hugging was in shock, and his heart racing. The woman brought her wand up, as did the man next to her.
"Bas," she said under her breath, holding him tighter.
Bastian hugged her back. He did not even make a joke about her killing him with that hug. Things were serious.
"For Merlin's sake, it's Lily," he stated, looking at the other woman.
"Lils!" rushed the other woman's voice and suddenly Lily recognised her as well. It was Camille. She joined the hug.
Lily glanced back at the man, who still had his hand in hers, and blinked twice. She did not let it go.
"And you? I still don't know who you are. We bumped into each other and ran until we could hide. I don't even know if I should trust you." at her suspect, he realised their hands together and in a somewhat of outrage, he let go of her hand.
The tall figure got out of the wardrobe that they were inside before and, for the first time, she could see him. It was only a thin light, but she could look at him. He was lean and was wearing an all-black robe and a mask that only covered his eyes; he had light hair, probably blonde, and had a not so confident smirk on his lips.
"Did not recognise my voice, Lily? Why would I wait so much to do anything to you?" his voice sounded hurt.
Bastian blew air with his nose. Just realising who it was.
"It's Scorpius, Lil,"
Scorpius was Bastian's cousin. She knew who he was, but she and he never had a close relationship.
"Oh, shite, sure, sorry, I'm not in my best self, too many potions y'know," she turned again to her friends, now feeling safer in Bastian and Camille arms, "are you guys ok? I couldn't fight, I was a bit too high. Have you seen any of my family? James? Al?" A dread reached her spine.
Bastian and Camille took two steps back each.
"I- I don't know. I'm fine, but I don't know about anyone else. I hid in the toilet, I believe I saw Albus in battle, or James, someone with that same mask as yours." Camille's voice was shaking. Lily felt she was nearly crying. "Some while ago I heard someone in the corridor talking something kind of We got what we wanted, let's go, so I waited some more and got out, it was extremely confusing, I found Bas on my way"
"I'm scared Lil, I'm fucking scared, thank Merlin we found you two" Bastian placed his hand on his cousin's shoulder, he was slightly shorter than the blond, Scorpius put his hand on top of his cousin's and they both nodded their heads.
"You're with family," Scorpius said, his voice was low "it's good to meet you both, but I don't trust that we aren't in danger right now, we have to hide, or run, hanging out in the open talking is not an option"
The four of them exchanged glances, and for a minute it was all silence.
"I have to find my brothers," Lily replied with the bravery she didn't realise she had.
"Me too," completed Bastian.
Scorpius put his hand in his short hair and sighed.
"It wasn't an option," he scratched his head "but family comes first." he sounded defeated.
"Isn't it better if we ask for help?" Said Camille in a rushed manner.
Lily then remembered the rings, the rings that stated if they were in danger. She looked at her hand and the rabbit had one eye red and one black. One of her brothers was in trouble.
"I have to find them now"
She was walking towards the exit when a hand planted firmly on her shoulder; she stared back; it was Scorpius.
"Mate, you are walking towards danger"
"One of my brothers is at risk, I have to get them"
She studied him and then at her friends. "Please"
Scorpius scratched his head and nodded. Camille and Bastian did the same.
In silence, they wandered off the room, close to each other. There was no one there. It was almost too quiet. Where were the injured? Where were the noises?
They went inside the room in front of the one they were and someone behind Lily said "Lumus", her wand in hand and her heart racing.
But there was nothing there, nothing torn, only a made bed, a wardrobe and some portraits.
She searched around and felt both frustration and relief. Nothing great and nothing awful. She looked again at the ring, one eye red and one black. The thought that the enchantment would behave as if her brothers were out of danger if they died crossed her mind, and she shivered. She moved to Bastian's side and grabbed his hand; she interlaced her fingers in his and glanced at him; he had a mirror as a mask; it was beautiful. Unfortunately, she could not see his eyes, only her mask reflected at his mask.
"Do you think we could take off the masks?" She asked in a whisper.
"I don't think it's wise, babe," he responded in the same tone.
She went back to the corridor, still holding Bastian's hand. And this time someone was there.
