"Bon-papa so is JJ the bookstore owner's daughter?" I ask as we arrive back at the estate for the night.

"They consider her a daughter and she considers them her guardians but she is not officially adopted or biologically theirs, dove." He smiles.

"It's complicated but miss Jennifer has been living with them for over three years now." He states as I turn confused.

"So is she biologically family related or?"

"When did you become so prospective Emilia." He laughs.

"I don't know. I was just wondering. I mean she's the first person my age I've connected with here." I sigh as I sit down at the kitchen bar.

"We are having dinner with them tomorrow night so please be ready by five darling." He states before walking out back. I sigh deciding to go walk around outside of the estate. There are some other houses close by before hitting town and I have nothing to do. I pass through the houses with nothing grabbing my attention so I head back into the town deciding to walk the market.

"Bonjour Jennifer de quoi as-tu besoin aujourd'hui?" I hear as I walk into the bakery. (What do you need today)

"Bonjour M. Dupont. J'ai besoin de deux pains et de quelques œufs frais." She smiles. (Hello Mr. Dupont. I need two loaves and a few fresh eggs)

"Ça arrive." He smiles as I duck into the store. (Coming right up)

"JJ?" I speak up. She whips her head around.

"Oh hey Emily." She smiles.

"Are you busy the rest of the day? I have nothing to do and I don't really know what to do here." I ramble.

"I just have to drop this stuff by the house then I'm free." She smiles.

"Jennifer voici votre pain et vos oeufs. Dites à vos parents que je les salue." The man states interrupting us. (Here is your bread and eggs. Tell your parents I said hello)

"Merci Marshall et moi. Bonne journée." JJ states as she turns to head out. (Thank you Marshall and I will. Have a good day.)

"So do you normally just come into town whenever?" I ask.

"Yeah. Amélie and Louis don't really care and they trust me to do what they asked." She shrugs.

"Do you call your parents by their first names?"

"They're my guardians and I mean I switch between their names and Mère and Père." She corrects as I nod.

"Do you want to come with me to my house to drop these off and then I can show you around?" She asks.

"Yeah. I mean you're the only person my age I've meet here." I laugh.

"I'll take you by the school at some point and you can meet others." She laughs as I smile at her. Her laugh is so contagious. We walk silently until we reach a decent sized home in the countryside.

"Do you want to come in? I just have to drop these and grab a jacket." She asks.

"Yeah I'll come in." I smile as she nods.

"Eva I'm home!" She calls through the house. An older lady comes into the foyer smiling at us.

"Ah Jennifer, who is your guest?"

"This is Emily. She's Mr. Prentiss' granddaughter." JJ smiles.

"Nice to meet you Miss. Prentiss. Jennifer dinner will be at six darling." Eva smiles.

"Okay. I'll be back by then Eva." JJ nods taking my hand dragging me out the front.

"Wait where are we going?" I laugh,

"I'm going to show you the secret hangout." She laughs still dragging me. JJ just keeps dragging me until we reach a secluded area in the middle of town.

"This is the secret hiding place?"

"Yeah. I've been coming up here whenever I need to escape since I moved here." JJ smiles plopping down on the window seal.

"So tell me Jennifer Jareau what is there about you?"

~

"You want one?" I ask JJ pulling out a cigarette a few hours later.

"No, I don't smoke." She smiles. I nod lighting it before sitting down next to her.

"Thank you." She randomly speaks up.

"For what?" I laugh while playing with her hair subconsciously.

"Hanging out. I normally don't have a lot of friends outside of school because they are all boarding students." She whispers leaning into me.

"You're welcome. I don't know anyone here so you're helping me." I smile.

~

"We probably should head back. I totally didn't realize it got this late." I yawn, lifting myself off of Emily.

"Yeah my grandparents are probably wondering where I am." She agrees.

"I guess I'll talk to you later." I whisper, rubbing my arm as we stand outside my house.

"Yeah I'll talk to you later." Emily smiles hugging me. I nod walking to the door waving before slipping in.

"Jennifer Jareau-Baudin où étais-tu?! Le couvre-feu était il y a quatre heures!" Louis yells startling me. (Where gave you been?! Curfew was four hours ago!)
