AN: I'm switching the POV to third person for this chapter, and probably the rest of the story.

Chapter Two

The Great Escape

I opened my eyes.

Anna kept her breaths even and slow, knowing from previous experiences that they would be watching on the cameras. They didn't have her strapped down, they never did anymore, they knew that she wouldn't move until the doctor came in and cleared her. Not this time, she sat straight up, her hair tumbling down around and past her shoulders in a tangled and slightly frizzy. She swung her legs to the side of the metal table that she had been laying on and refused to wince at the sting of dropping down onto the cold concrete floor with bare feet. Anna, feeling vindictive and petty, made sure to smile to the camera that had been trained on her since she had sat up. Hydra had become complacent with their security, the door had remained unlocked, and she could hear the alarm already starting to sound, Well that didn't take long. Turning the corner of the corridor she had been walking down, Anna came to abrupt halt, and raised her hands at the group of guards standing there guns at the ready. "Back to your room! NOW!" Anna narrowed her eyes, zeroing in on the man who had yelled, "Come now boys, I'd hate to have to hurt you," she smiled at them, "can't we all just be friends?" at her question, there was an audible sound of safeties being clicked off.

"No?" Anna shrugged, "So be it," letting her body move on autopilot, she began to dodge bullets, and fists, ignoring the sting of the ones she couldn't, she'd just heal anyways. "Honestly it didn't have to be this way," she sighed as she picked her way through the bodies now laying across the floor. Anna knew exactly where she was going, the lowest floor was where they kept the cryopods, it was a strategic move on their part, if James had ever remembered, and was to try and escape, he would have had to fight his way up five floors, before he even got to the main floor that held the door to the outside, to their freedom. The elevator really should have music, letting her feet take her where she wanted to go, Anna knocked out cameras and took out guards as she came across them. Turning one last corner, a nervous yet excited energy filled her stomach, expecting to see James in his cryopod, yet he was missing. She could feel her anger building up, her frustration coming out in an anguished yell. "He's no longer here, he was removed after we were informed of your growing relationship." Anna spun on her bare feet, eyes were narrowed, fists balled, "where is he?"

"Do not worry lyubimyy," the man gave her a false grandfatherly smile, "All you have to do is come with me back to medical, so I may give you your check-up, and afterwards you will be reunited with the Asset." Anna stared, eyes still narrowed at the doctor, Hydra lies, you know this. Did she know this, or was it the other life that knew, the one that had watched lives be lived in a picture show. Thinking all these thoughts just made her dizzy, so she pushed them away, they weren't important, at least not until she had James back. Go with him, medical means patient files, I'm not a patient though, even more of a reason for them to keep files, find yours and HIS, it can only help in the long run. The doctor sighed and took his glasses off, polishing them on a square piece of fabric, gaining her attention, Anna came to her decision, nodding her head she motioned for him to lead the way. They didn't have far to walk, medical, had been placed close to the cryopods, for easy access to both her and James. Anna moved into the room first, the back of her neck started to prickle, her hair standing on end, as she heard the distinct sound of the door closing and locking. "Lyubimyy, come it is time for you to sit in your chair," the doctor motioned to the metal chair in the middle of the room, Anna took a hesitant step closer to the chair. Don't, that's the chair they stick you in, when they want to wipe your memory. I know.

The doctor was standing behind her now, and in one fluid she spun, and using her own weight, pushed him into the chair, the arms automatically closing around his wrists. "Lyubimyy, what are you doing?" Anna stalked towards him "Where is the file you keep on the Winter Soldier?"

"There is none," the doctor laughed, "enough of this lyubimyy, release me!" Anna grinned at him, a slight manic look in her eyes, "you aren't in charge here anymore Doc, I'd tell me what I want to know, otherwise I won't be gentle."

"You won't kill me lyubimyy."

"No, but you'll wish I had." She rolled a metal tray holding scalpels, and other surgical tools towards him.

Anna stepped away from the doctor, turning to wash her hands in the metal sink, "Thank you for your cooperation." Anna had learned quite a bit about herself, and it hadn't even taken that long, the doctor had given up the location of her and James' file rather quickly. James' file was in Russian, not that it had stopped her from reading it thoroughly, it was her own file that had given her pause. She had an ability, that allowed her to take in the abilities as others, a Dr Klaus Schmidt had experimented on her extensively, when she had first been captured in nineteen-forty five. It seems like the good doctor had been trying to create the ultimate weapon, by injecting her and many other test patients with each other's blood. She had been the only one to survive. When the war had ended Schmidt went underground and left Anna to the tender mercies of Hydra, leaving many other blood samples behind in other facilities around Germany. The only problem was that nobody knew how to get to these samples, well almost nobody, there was one. Anna happened to be the only around when Schmidt would open his secret little compartments filled with vials of specially preserved blood. After extracting the vials, she compared the labels on the vials to the ones on the other files, keeping only the ones that matched, she poured the others down the sink. She scattered the other files along the floor of the room, leading to the last filing cabinet, her escape hatch.

"You won't find anything in the Asset's file, that tells you where they took him." she shrugged, "That's ok, I'll find him sooner or later, even if I have to blow up every base in order to do it." the doctor tried to laugh, coughing instead, "You won't make it passed the front door,"

"Won't I?" she questioned, "No"

"Well, then it's a good thing I wasn't planning on going through the front door." Anna walked back towards him, "I'd say that it's been a pleasure, but well then I'd be lying" she started the program for the chair, "Don't worry Doc, soon you won't even remember me." listening to the doctor Anna felt a sense of relief and slight satisfaction, at his screams and whimpers of pain, as his mind was scrambled and destroyed. Grabbing her new bag full of blood and files, she walked over to the filing cabinet, and after pulling out the bottom drawer, she opened a secret hatch, and dropped down, shutting the door behind her. After setting the files scattered across the floor on fire with a set of matches of course.
