Luke had rang Lorelai's mobile, work and house phone numerous times over the next few days but she refused to talk to him. She couldn't, it hurt too much. She needed to focus on not falling apart, she had a baby inside her that needed her to be strong.
On Tuesday Lorelai walked into the Doctors Office and saw that Luke was already there. He was always annoying early for things she thought. He handed her a cup of coffee from Luke's- she didn't accept it. "Lorelai, hi. Erm how have you been? Here I know you're not meant to have coffee but it's decaf. Listen I have really missed you" Luke said cautiously. "Not now Luke, I can't do this here and now please" Lorelai replied. Lorelai sat down next to Luke and instantly her hostility towards Luke began to thaw. She missed him. Dr Grey arrived at that exact moment and called Lorelai's name. Lorelai and Luke both followed Dr Grey into her office and sat down. "Well I hear congratulations are in order Lorelai and is this your fiancé Luke? Danes is it?" Dr Grey asked. Lorelai quickly replied "Luke Danes - yes, baby's father - yes, fiancé -erm" sensing it was a question that wasn't going to be answered without a great deal of awkwardness Dr Grey quickly carried on talking..."Ok...so let's see if we can see your baby shall we? Today we will do a vaginal ultrasound and check that the baby is growing in the correct place. We will also try and listen to the baby's heartbeat but it could be too early at the moment for that. Ok Lorelai, if you can remove the clothing on your bottom half, sit in the hospital chair and put this blanket over your legs and I will be back in a minute" the Dr said. Luke turned away and allowed Lorelai the privacy to undress and sit in the chair. Once that was done Lorelai turned to look at Luke and whispered "I'm scared Luke", "me too" he replied whilst grabbing hold of her hand. "I'm scared of the scan, I'm scared of what's going to happen between us, I am just so scared" she added. "Our baby will be fine, our baby will be beautiful and we can come back from this. Everything will be ok, you'll see" he stroked her hair.
Dr Grey entered the room and began to perform the ultrasound on Lorelai. "Ok, so we have one baby and the baby seems to be healthy and is growing in the right place. I can also locate the heart beat- all signs are looking very promising at the moment" with that Dr Grey turned the screen to Lorelai and Luke. She pointed out the baby's location and the baby's heartbeat. Lorelai grabbed Luke's hand tighter and whispered "that's our baby", she turned to look at Luke and saw he was crying. He leant forward and kissed Lorelai lightly on her forehead. She smiled slightly and turned to face Dr Grey "so everything looks ok?" Lorelai asked nervously, "yes everything looks perfect up to now. I will leave you to get re-dressed, you can pick up the photographs from reception and ask them to book you in for a couple of weeks time. Congratulations Lorelai and congratulations Luke" Dr Grey left the room.
Lorelai got off the hospital chair and redressed. She made her way to reception with Luke following her. She made sure the appointment time worked with both of their schedules and picked up the photographs of her precious baby. "Lorelai, please can we go somewhere and talk? I've been a mess, please" Luke begged. "Yes, we need to talk. I'm going straight to my house now, you want to meet me there?" Lorelai asked. Luke nodded and got in his truck, thinking over and over the words he was going to say when he got to Lorelai's.
