Luke walks up the porch steps, places the bags from Doose's down and knocks on the door. There isn't an answer and after the third knock panic fills his body.

'Tell me she didn't do it,' he says to himself, turning his head to see if the Jeep is in its usual spot. He sighs in relief. How had he forgotten he'd just parked his truck behind it? Luke shakes his head, picks up the bags he had placed down on the wooden floor and opens the door.

As Luke enters the house, he's greeted by the sound of what he guesses is the TV. He walks through the foyer into the kitchen, putting the bags he's carrying on the table.

Once his hands are free, he goes into the living room. He finds Lorelai laying down. Her head is resting on a pillow and she's facing the back of the sofa. Even in her sleep she looks worried. He fights the urge to gently rub the worried lines on her forehead, but the urge wins by a landslide.

Lorelai instantly lets her face relax at the feeling of his fingers on her face. Something about the gentle gesture calms her down, even in her sleep.

Luke smiles at her and tries not to chuckle when he realises that she's got her arms wrapped around the TV remote, cuddling it to her chest. He slowly wiggles it out of Lorelai's grip and turns the TV off. He walks back to the kitchen, leaving her to rest, and he starts cooking as quietly as he can.

You would have expected it to be the smell of the warm soup that would have made Lorelai wake up, but it isn't until Luke softly touches her arm that she finally awakens.

'Rory?' she questions, squinting her eyes as they get used to the lighting in the room.

'No Lorelai, it's me.' Luke is crouched on the floor beside her. 'Your soup is ready.'

'Luke?' Lorelai looks around confused, hand on her head as she takes a moment to sit up and gets herself together. 'Soup?'

Luke gestures to the bowl of chicken noodle soup that's on the coffee table.

'Ugh, naps aren't all they're made out to be,' she says after a minute or so of silence. She rubs her forehead as she shuffles on the sofa.

Luke stands up, only to sit back down on the edge of the coffee table. 'Sorry that I woke you. Just thought you must be hungry and since I finished making it, I wanted to see if you would eat.'

'You thought right.' She places her hand on her stomach realising just how hungry she is. 'But I think I'm going to change first.' She gets up, using Luke's shoulder to steady herself. 'Want to be comfy for our movie night.'

Luke's eyes widened at hearing what she said.

'Didn't think I had forgotten, did you?' she asks as she climbs the first few steps of the stairs.

He turns to look at her. 'More like I hoped you would.'

'I don't ever forget when a good looking man like yourself offers to watch a movie with me, especially if they're allowing me to pick.'

It takes a few seconds but when it finally registers in Lorelai's mind that she just called Luke good looking, she plays it cool and winks at him before quickly going up the stairs. She leaves Luke blushing slightly, with a smirk on his face.

Lorelai opens her bedroom door, still thinking about her comment towards Luke. Most importantly, thinking about how describing him as good looking is an understatement. She then flips the light switch on but is met with darkness when she hurries into the room.

'Ah, damn!' she screams when she smashes her leg into her bedside table causing the pain that's currently surfing throughout her body.

It takes Luke about five seconds to be by her bedroom door. 'Lorelai, are you okay?' His voice laced with concern as he tries to find her in the dark room.

'No. My leg.' Lorelai groans in pain. She tries moving but can't seem to do anything other than wiggle like a worm on the wooden floor she's currently bound to. 'Damn, it really hurts.'

'Why is it so dark in here?' He turns the light switch on and once nothing changes in the room, Luke remembers the light bulbs that are on the kitchen table. 'Ah, right.' He crouches down, feeling the air to see exactly where Lorelai is.

'Ah, Luke! God! That's my leg.'

'Sorry,' he says turning her around slowly so she's now facing him. 'Here.' He places her arms around his neck and puts his own arm under her legs. 'I'm going to pick you up now. It might hurt a little when I do.'

'Be gentle.'

'I'll try.'

When he's sure that he has a good grip, he picks her up. Lorelai grunts the moment that he does. Her legs dangle on his side. She closes her eyes and tucks her head on the crook of his neck, all in an attempt at controlling the pain still pulsing through her leg.

Luke gently places her on the bed. He turns to the lamp that's on her bedside table, and after a while of trying to feel where the switch is, he turns it on, but it has the same effect as the ceiling light.

'Does none of your god damn lights work?'

'Oh, well, see when the light bulb from the ceiling light broke a couple of months ago, I just replaced it with the light bulb from my lamp, and then when that one broke last week I used the bathroom light, but then that one broke and it was becoming hard to plan needing to use the bathroom with daylight. Oh, and let me tell you, baths at candlelight sounds romantic but becomes problematic when the candles die, and you end up using the wrong products where they shouldn't be used. Had to admit defeat and bought new lights which I won't even be able to replace because I'll be too busy amputating my leg.'

'It's not that bad.'

'How do you know? It's too dark in here to see and judging from how much it's hurting, I'm going with the assumption that it's really bad,' she says as she shuffles uncomfortably on the bed.

When Luke hears her painful groan, he places his hand on her arm, or what he thinks is her arm.

'You'll be fine. I'm going to quickly change the bulb, and while I do, get thinking about that movie you want to torture me with.'

'Thanks, Luke.'

He stands there for a second, smiling at her even though she can barely see him with the lack of lighting in the room.

'Um, Luke. You done cupping a feel there?'

'What?'

'Your hand.'

'Ah, geez.' He instantly removes his hand from where it's resting. 'Lorelai, I'm sorry, I thought that was…'

'I know.'

'I didn't want to...'

'Oh well, don't I feel special now.'

'No, that's not what I meant. I always want to.' Luke's eyes widen at realising what had just slipped out of his mouth. He's suddenly thankful that it's dark so Lorelai can't see how red his face is.

'What?' Lorelai asks, not quite believing what she just heard.

'Um...I...was just distracting you from the pain.' He shuffles from one foot to the other, hoping she'll take that excuse and roll with it. 'I should go down and get those light bulbs.'

Before Lorelai has time to say anything to his response, Luke is out the door.

Lorelai pushes through the pain that's still rushing from her leg to the side of her stomach, as she manages to sit up on her bed. She places two pillows behind her, wishing it'll help ease the discomfort.

Did he really mean what he said? Lorelai thinks but as much as she wants to keep thinking about Luke, there's still a nagging thought about how Rory is doing. If she's okay. If Emily has already gotten her dress size ready to fully convert Rory into that society. Lorelai shivers at the thought. She wiggles a little as she takes her phone out of her trouser pocket. No calls from Rory. Plenty from Max though. Couldn't the guy take a hint?

Luke enters her room, places one of the bulbs that he's holding on the bedside table before changing the bulb in the lamp beside her bed. Once he replaces it, he puts the light on.

'You think this will do for now, or do you want me to put the new one on the ceiling light?'

'This is fine for now. Thanks, Luke.'

He nods in reply before saying, 'I'm going to get the bathroom light working then.' He picks up the light he had discarded earlier on the table.

'Okay.' She watches him leave. Lorelai looks around the messy bedroom, suddenly grateful that it had been too dark before for Luke to see the state it's in. She slowly moves her legs to the side of the bed, grunting the moment she slides off it. Lorelai starts picking up the clothes that are aimlessly scattered around her room, cursing herself for not having done this in the morning.

Why do I suddenly care if Luke sees my room in this state? He's seen it in much worse, she thought but instantly stops dwelling on her actions and the meaning behind it.

Lorelai picks up her 'I love Lucy' pyjama shorts from the ground. She looks at the open door, wondering if Luke is almost done with the light in the bathroom. She risks it, takes her shoes off, unbuttons her pants, then places them on the side. She glances down at her right thigh that has been hurting ever since her little accident. It's a bright red colour, almost pink if you really examine it closely. She runs her hand along the raw skin and winces when she does. She then gently puts her shorts on. Lorelai pulls her shirt off, leaving her light pink tank top on. She feels a little better now that she's in something more comfortable.

Lorelai starts to slowly walk out the door but as she does, she bumps right into Luke's flannel-clad chest.

'Sorry,' he mumbles.

'It's fine. So, we finally have light?'

'Yep.'

'Thanks again, Luke.' She smiles at him.

'Don't worry about it. You still need another one for your room, so let me know when you get that, and I can put it up for you.'

'I will,' she says, shuffling her weight onto her other leg, trying to reduce the pain that is radiating from her thigh.

'Lorelai! Why are you standing?' Luke places his hands on her shoulders, leading her back to bed.

'Luke.'

'You were just complaining about it hurting and having to amputate your leg, and now you're standing there as if nothing happened.'

'Luke...'

'You really need to start listening to your body more and actually take care of it. With all the crap you eat and never letting your body rest, you're going to die so god damn young.'

'Luke!'

'What?'

'I need to use the bathroom.'

'Oh.'

'Yeah, that's why I was up.'

'Right.'

'Um...can I go then?

'Oh yeah, of course. You don't have to ask.' He steps aside and lets her pass.

She walks up to the door but then turns around to face him. 'I might need your help.'

'Oh, what? Really?'

She chuckles. 'Not with actually going to the toilet. I need to use the downstairs bathroom.'

'Any particular reason you can't use the one up here that I just fixed the light issue for?'

'Well Luke, if you must know I have no pads up here because of said light issue.'

'Um...oh, right. Right. Umm…let's just get you downstairs then,' he says, not quite realising what she had meant to start with, but once he did, he starts shooing her out the door wanting the awkwardness that he's feeling about the subject to go away.

Lorelai giggles at his reaction, loving that he's turning a little red. They walk to the stairs. Luke puts his arm around her waist, and she places her arm on his shoulders, so Lorelai doesn't have to put too much pressure on her hurting leg. Her leg brushes on the banister and she groans, as she tries to hold back the pain that's rushing through her.

'Sorry,' Luke says, leaning to the other side so that her leg has more space.

They make it down and Luke helps her get to the bathroom, leaving her side only when he's sure she's okay.

'Thanks, Luke for the assistance. I would tip you but no pockets.' She gestures to her shorts.

Luke smiles. 'Don't worry I'll just add it to your tab.'

'Yeah, you do that.'

'I'm going to reheat your soup.' He picks up the bowl he left on the coffee table as he says, 'If you're still up for it we can watch a movie after.'

'Oh, we're definitely watching a movie.' She grins at him before going in.

When Lorelai comes out of the bathroom, Luke's sitting on the sofa with a bowl of soup on his lap, there is another on the coffee table, warm and waiting for Lorelai to eat it. She walks towards the TV, trying her best not to show how much it hurts her to do so. She crouches down and starts looking at her movies.

'So, what do you want to watch?' she asks as she starts flipping through her collection.

'Anything,' Luke says.

'Is Casablanca okay?' Lorelai asks, lifting the movie for Luke to see.

'Yeah, that's fine,' Luke says, not really bothered with her selection. He places his now empty bowl on the table.

'You don't sound too excited about it. How many times have you watched it?'

'I haven't.'

'You haven't? You mean you haven't watched it, ever? Luke!'

'What? You sound like I just deeply offended you. It's just a movie.'

'You have deeply offended me, and you've just made it worse for calling it "just a movie." Such disrespect to a true classic like Casablanca.'

He rolls his eyes before asking, 'Are you going to put it on or what?'

'Yes, I am.' She sets it up. 'I still can't believe you've never watched this.'

'Well, believe it because it's true.'

She walks to the sofa, wincing the whole time.

'Lorelai, if you want, I could sit over there so you can lay down.' He points to the chair by the TV and then starts to stand up.

'No need.' She gestures for him to sit back down with the remote that's in her hand. She then gives the remote to Luke as she sits on the other end of the sofa, turning and laying her legs on his lap.

'See, it works for both of us.' She smirks at him, enjoying the slight change of colour on his cheeks.

'Lorelai, really?' Luke sighs in defeat when he sees the grin on her face. He presses play, starting the movie.

Lorelai reaches for her soup and as she's about to put it down, Luke lays a pillow on her lap so that she can place the bowl there.

'Thanks,' she says before smiling at him.

He nods as he glances over at the TV.

Lorelai starts eating while she watches the movie. She turns to look at Luke occasionally to see his reaction to what's happening on screen. Having him here is a nice distraction, both from the pain in her leg and the horrible feeling she still has that Rory isn't home and is all the way in Hartford with her parents, of all people. She finishes her soup and places the bowl down on the coffee table.

'If you want more there's still some in the kitchen.'

'I'm okay, thanks.' She brings her finger to her lips as she says, 'Oh and shhhh.'

'Why are you shushing me?'

'Because movie night rules say no talking. Now quiet.'

Luke rolls his eyes before saying, 'So there are rules now?'

'There have always been rules, Luke, especially with a true classic like Casablanca.' Lorelai picks up the remote. She pauses the movie.

'Why did you do that?'

'So, I can tell you the rest of the movie night rules, duh.'

'Right…, my mistake.' He rolls his eyes.

'Okay so, no talking, no phone calls and no shifting around because that's super distracting. No going to the bathroom because we're not pausing the movie.'

'But you just paused the movie.' He points to the TV.

'Well, that was to tell you the rules and avoid having to pause the movie again, so that doesn't count.'

'Fine. Can we continue?'

'Yes, we can.' She presses play and it starts up again.

As much as Lorelai loves this movie and enjoys the fact that she's making Luke watch it with her, her mind keeps drifting back to Rory. She starts playing with the loose thread on the pillow that's still on her lap.

'Hey, she'll be home soon,' Luke says when he glances at her and notices the worried look.

'Yeah, I know.' She turns to him, but her eyes drift to the coffee table where her car keys are still on. 'Is driving there and getting her still out of the question?'

'You're not driving there until tomorrow.'

'We could get ice cream after if you say yes.' She grins at him.

'Ice cream. Really?' Luke asks, pretending to be excited. 'Well, you should have just said that before.'

'You're so mean to me in my fragile state.'

'You love it.'

'Nooo,' she says but can't hide her smile.

'Yeah, because that sounded convincing.'

Lorelai picks up the remote and starts rewinding the movie.

'What are you doing now?'

'Well, we were talking, I missed most of this.'

'You've already watched it before. Why should I have to suffer if you weren't paying attention?'

'Because it's my movie and my rules, now hush, hush, and watch.' She smiles at him and points to the TV.

'So bossy,' Luke mumbles.

'But you love it.'

'Don't know where you got the crazy idea from.'

'You might be better at pretending than I am, but you know it's true, you love all my little quarks.'

He shakes his head as he says, 'You're crazy.'

'I don't hear you denying anything.' At this point, Lorelai is sporting such a big grin that if she weren't so happy, she would be complaining that her face is hurting.

'Just watch the movie,' he says, keeping his eyes on the screen but he's smiling just a little and if anyone knows Luke, they know he doesn't just smile for anyone.

Lorelai's heart feels warm at the fact Luke seems to never fail to make her happy even on days...or nights in this case, that she just wants to curl into a ball in bed and never come out. She thinks about Max in this moment. If she had called him instead, would he have made her feel better with such ease the way Luke has? She's not sure he would have, and it doesn't surprise her that her first impulse was to call Luke and not Max.

'Thank you, Luke,' she says softly, wanting him to know just how grateful she is to have him here.

He turns to look at her when he hears her quiet thank you. 'What for?'

'"What for," he asks, as if he hasn't done anything.' Lorelai shakes her head. 'For everything, Luke. You always go above and beyond the call of duty.' She sighs. 'I hope you know that I really appreciate it, and just all you do for me.'

'I do know.'

'Well, good.'

She looks away, moving her attention to Humphrey Bogart and Luke does the same. Lorelai's eyes don't stay fixated on the movie for too long as they drift back onto Luke. He seems comfortable here. He has an arm draped on the back of the sofa and his other hand is on Lorelai's leg.

Wait? When did that happen? Lorelai thinks, not remembering feeling his hand going there. Her heart feels funny as she looks at him. This whole scene feels so right to her, for them, and maybe even part of her wishes that this wasn't just a one night thing. That this was the start of many nights comfortably laying on the sofa together, watching movies. Her mind can't think for too long about what all these feelings mean as Luke starts to lightly caress her leg. His actions send tingles all over her body.

Luke seems unaware of what he's doing, he's just watching the movie.

He must know he's slowly killing me, right?

'Luke…' she whispers.

He doesn't hear her, or maybe he pretends not to. Lorelai can't tell. She shakes her head and looks at the movie, because maybe then she won't think about Luke's hand on her leg. No, she's definitely not thinking about Luke's hand caressing that little part of her leg. Not at all. She hasn't closed her eyes and isn't wishing Luke's hand was slowly moving further down her leg. No, that would be ridiculous. She opens her eyes. She really shouldn't have been thinking about that. Luke is with someone. She's with someone.

Max.

Lorelai moves her legs off Luke's lap, groaning the moment she does.

'Leg still hurts?' Luke asks as he places his hand on his now empty lap.

'Yeah.' She tucks her feet under his thigh, wanting to warm her toes.

'Let me have a look.'

Lorelai moves her right leg a little to the left, to show Luke the bruise that is starting to turn a weird mixture of purple and green.

He reaches over and lightly touches her leg and she instantly winces when he does.

'Luke! That's not helping.'

'I'm just feeling how it is. It doesn't seem too bad.'

'Oh, gee thanks Doctor Luke. I feel so much better after your little examination there.'

Luke rolls his eyes at her sarcastic comment, and Lorelai smiles at him.

For a while there is a content silence between the two of them as they watch the movie. A thought that had come to Lorelai's mind earlier today comes back.

'Luke...how come you're here?'

'You called me, or don't you remember?'

'Yeah, I do. I hurt my leg, not my head.'

'You sure it wasn't your head? That would explain so much.'

'Hey! What do you mean by that?'

'Nothing.' He's smiling at her. 'So, how am I here?'

'Right. You distracted me. I was going to say...how come you're here and not with...Rachel?'

Luke instantly shuffles uncomfortably on the sofa at the mention of his girlfriend.

'She's with her parents,' he says quickly as if he wants to get away from this topic as fast as he can.

'Shouldn't you be there too?' Lorelai isn't sure why she's still questioning him about this. Why does she need to know?

'I told her about Rory. She understood.'

'Right. She's a good one, that Rachel.'

Luke just nods.

'What about Max?'

'What about him?' Now it was Lorelai's turn to feel uncomfortable and slightly defensive.

'Why isn't he here?'

'Because you're here.'

'Right.' Luke isn't too sure how to feel about this. 'Things are good with you-'

'Yes,' Lorelai quickly jumps in, not even letting Luke finish his sentence.

She looks over at her phone that's on the coffee table. The missed calls from Max are still unreturned. Things with him have been good since they got back together, but…it doesn't feel like this, Lorelai thinks as her eyes glance at Luke. It comes so easily for the two of them. She feels so comfortable with herself and Luke. He so effortlessly knows how to make her feel better when her mind is still racing with worry about her daughter.

'Right...'

'What about you and Rachel?' she asks.

'All good.'

'Okay...'

Both look back at the movie, eyes fixed on Ilsa and Rick, and the passionate kiss the two lovers are sharing.

'I can't fight it anymore.'

Something about that line that Ilsa says hurts Lorelai's heart. Maybe it's because she feels like she can relate to it slightly. She tries to fight the urge to look at him, but she can't help it. The ache. The inability to stand all she's been pushing away the moment she met Luke. Something that's always been lingering between them. The comments, the flirting, the missed opportunities. Their eyes meet. And it's there. Has it always been? Love. So much love in his eyes when he looks at her. Maybe she has noticed it before but never dared admit that it is what it is. It scares her, but she wouldn't dare look away, not when she feels so drawn to him.

'I wished I didn't love you so much.'

Ilsa's words fill the room. Things aren't as complicated for Lorelai and Luke as it is for Ilsa and Rick, but she thinks that maybe if she didn't then she wouldn't have to hurt Max. He's a good guy. Really smart, a kind heart and is great to Rory. But he's not Luke. The thought lingers in her mind as her eyes stay fixed on Luke's mouth for a moment, then back up to his eyes.

'Luke...' Lorelai shuffles a little closer, and so does he. There's this pull between them, this attraction, a need, and something else too. Lorelai doesn't want to define it. It's too scary, too real and she now knows it's been missing with Max.

If Luke could hear her thoughts, he would have said the same thing about him and Rachel.

They get closer than they probably should for just friends, for friends with significant others but neither is thinking straight. Lorelai's leg hurts and she's worried about Rory, what's Luke's excuse for thinking irrationally? Well, we know what and if Lorelai would let herself really think about it, she would know it too.

'Lorelai…'

They keep looking at each other and Lorelai has the urge to do something she shouldn't even be thinking about, especially with anyone that isn't Max.

'The phone…' Luke says making her realise that the phone has been ringing.

She gets up from the sofa, grabbing the phone. She swallows the lump that had formed in her throat before saying, 'Hello. Oh, Sookie, hey.' Lorelai turns to Luke and gestures at the kitchen.

He nods and watches her walk away. Luke sighs, leaning back into the sofa. He oddly feels glad and sad that Sookie interrupted them. He wonders what would have happened if she hadn't called. He shakes his head. He knows nothing good would have come from it, not when he's still with Rachel and she's still with Max. He runs his hand through his hair, and just looks at the movie; his thoughts far from what Rick is doing.

'It was Sookie, ' Lorelai says the moment she comes back from the kitchen, placing the phone back in its place on the small table.

'Yeah, I heard.' Luke avoids looking at her, instead just staring at the movie's main menu.

'Oh, it's finished.' Lorelai points to the TV as she sits back down.

'Yep. You missed the ending.'

'Eh, that's okay. It's not like I haven't watched it before.'

'Right.'

'I'm sorry if you didn't like the movie.'

'No, the movie was fine, Lorelai.'

'Just fine? Luke, you really need to work on appreciating a true classic. Come on, I thought we had talked about this.'

'We did. Sorry. Tomorrow morning the first thing I'm going to do is go out and buy a special edition of Casablanca to worship.'

'Hey, no mocking the special editions. They're great.'

'I can never win with you, can I?'

'Nope.' She grins and Luke loves that smile so damn much that he can't help but match it.

Lorelai looks down at her hands. 'You're officially free to go if you want. You watched a movie like you promised you would.' She glances back at him.

'Um, right...I should go then,' he says but doesn't move.

'Or we could watch another movie. I'll even make popcorn, if you want?'

'Well, we didn't get to watch the ending together, so I guess we didn't really completely watch a movie, and I did promise.'

Lorelai smiles. 'You're right! And you were going to go without fulfilling your promise.' She gasps. 'Luke! I thought you were better than that.'

He shrugs. 'Well, I'm not the boy scout some of you make me out to be.'

'Yeah, I guess not.' She tries her best not to read too much into that. 'So, what movie this time?'

'Anything.'

'You're really not good at this whole decision thing, are you?

'Just pick something.'

'Fine.' She gets up and walks to the TV. Just like before she explores her movie collection, and quickly finds something to watch again with Luke.

'Okay, I'm going to get popcorn,' Lorelai says but she groans under her breath as she starts to walk.

'I can do that. You sit and start watching.'

'You sure?'

'Yeah, don't worry.'

'Do you even know where it is?' she asks, a smile on her face as she sits back down.

'I did unpack your groceries not long ago.'

'Oh right, you did. Huh, that worked out great then.'

'Yep. Now watch your movie, I'll be back in a second.'

The rest of the afternoon is spent in a similar way, Luke sat down at the end of the sofa, Lorelai laying on it, her feet on his lap and the bowl of popcorn between them but Lorelai eats the majority of it, Luke wouldn't have it any other way. They watch the movie pretty much in silence other than a few comments from Lorelai here and there, which Luke would say he hates but he would be lying because having her comment on one scene and then another, reassures him that she's okay.

Lorelai spends most of the movie thinking about Luke. Mostly wondering how he managed to make her feel so at ease when part of her wants to be freaking out about Rory, but having him here… she doesn't know why but it just made things better.

Sometime during the halfway point, Lorelai starts to drift off to sleep. Luke realises when there's a funny scene and no comment from Lorelai about it. He turns to her and smiles. He takes the blanket from the back of the sofa and puts it over her. He questions whether to leave now but decides not to, instead he just keeps watching the movie enjoying the moment too much to go.

By the time the credits roll, Lorelai has been sleeping for a few minutes. Part of Luke doesn't want to leave in case she wakes and can't sleep again. He knows how hard it must be for her to be home knowing Rory isn't, especially when Rory has been acting a bit off since Dean. He looks at his watch, sighing as he knows it's best if he goes, especially because…Rachel.

Luke gently moves her feet from his lap and gets up. He slowly scoops her up into his arms and she instantly rests her head on the crook of his neck. Luke takes two steps towards the stairs but Lorelai groans.

'What?' he whispers wondering if he hurt her.

'Rory's room...please.' Her words are soft and vulnerable in a way Luke didn't know Lorelai could sound.

He nods and walks towards Rory's bedroom. He feels Lorelai sigh in his arms. He isn't sure if it's done on purpose or just her attempt at getting comfortable as she tries to keep sleeping, but she rubs her nose gently on his neck, sending a tingle through Luke's body. He tries to dismiss the feeling and how much he liked it, likes having her this close to him, and maybe now he's even cursing how close Rory's bedroom is to the living room.

Luke enters the bedroom, pulls the covers down and slowly places Lorelai on the bed. He smiles as she instantly settles in and he puts the covers over her. He stays there for a few more seconds, just to make sure she's okay, of course. He tries to fight the urge but can't stop himself from tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, getting it out of her face. He turns away from the bed but is stopped from moving any further. He turns back and smiles as he sees Lorelai's hand on his arm.

Those blue eyes peek from partly closed lids. 'Thank you, Luke...'

He holds her hand giving it a little squeeze. 'It's nothing. Now, close your eyes and try to get some rest. If you need anything...call.'

Lorelai nods and Luke lets go of her hand to move away but she's still holding it tightly.

'She's going to be okay, right?'

'She's going to be just fine. She has you, remember?'

Lorelai smiles and slowly lets Luke's hand slip from hers. Hearing him say it makes her believe it, as if by Luke saying it, it has been wished into existence. She doesn't notice when Luke leaves the room, and in her mind as she drifts off to sleep, he's still here, still ready to calm her when the urge to drive to Hartford to get Rory springs to life. Even though he isn't there, doesn't mean he didn't hide her keys just in case.
