LENOX:
I made it to the hospital in about 45 minutes. I park in the first available spot. I see Dr. Gerandy waiting for me by the front desk.
"Dr. McCarty what's going on?" I can see the look of worry on his face and that he is highly worried for Mrs. Black.
"Mrs. Black has a tumor on her uterus that is sucking the blood from the baby and her. If we leave it on the uterus we could lose them both. It is making both of their hearts work overtime. Its going to be very tricky to remove it. I do need a OR team here stat and to get a NICU bed ready in the OR just in case we have to do a crash C-Section."
"How can you tell that just from the notes. We have done countless ultrasounds on her to try to figure out the problem and we haven't spotted anything?" he ask curiously
"The symptoms she has pointed me in the direction. I have had a patient in the past with this same thing. You have to us ultrasound machine to see it. Do y'all have one here?"
"No we don't. It was not in budget to get one."
"That's fine. I have a portable one in my car. Let me go get it and then we can go see the patient."
I run out to my car to grab it and when I make my way back in we hop on the elevator to head up to Mrs. Blacks room. I knock on the door and wait a few seconds before walking in. I see Mr. Black pacing the room and Mrs. Black is trying to get him to calm down. When I'm in the room they stop and stare at me.
"Hello my name is Dr. Lenox McCarty. You can call me Lenox though. I know its late but it was important you come in now. When I arrived at my hotel your files finally arrived in my email. When I looked them over I was able to figure out what was going on. I know you have questions and I promise to answer them but please give me just a few moments."
I grab the bed side table and bring it over the side of the bed. I begin to setup the 3 D ultrasound machine on it. I can feel all eyes on me as I get everything setup. I set the gel in the warmer to try to get to warm up kinda quickly. While the ultrasound machine is coming on, I pull my stethoscope out of my bag and start checking her heart rate. I notice that it is starting to struggle to keep up. Once the machine is ready to go, I grab the stool and pull it to the side of the bed.
"Okay I am going to d ultrasound to check on your baby. Do y'all know what you are having?" I try to ask questions to get the momma to relax as much as possible.
"No we don't. We want to be surprised and also if we lose this baby as well it would just hurt more. I can't bring myself to envision a life with this baby yet. We have lost so many that this is my way of coping with it." Mrs. Black says. It breaks my heart to hear her say that but she is not the first momma who has said those words to me.
"Well I am going to do my best to give you that life I know you want with your baby." I move the wand around for a few seconds and then see the tumor on the uterus. I check the baby's heartbeat and notice it is slowly declining just like Mrs. Blacks. I also start checking the measurements on the baby and notice that its measuring around 24 weeks, which is amazing news. That just increased the baby's odd at surviving
"Okay this is the tumor on the uterus" I move the wand back to spot where the tumor is. "The tumor is what's causing the problems. It's like a vampire and its sucking the blood away from you baby Its also putting strain not only on the baby's heart but yours as well." I notice them exchange a weird look when I said vampire. "We are going to do surgery now. We don't have any longer to wait. Thankfully your baby is measuring in around 24 weeks which increases the baby's chance for survival if we have to do a emergency C-Section. I promise you I am going to do my best to keep that baby in there but I can not guarantee that will happen. If that does happen I will be here to take care of him or her. I'm going to go get the OR ready and I will see you in there Mrs. Black. Mr. Black you can call some people in to set with you if you like. It might help your nerves. Please trust me when I say I will do my best to bring them both back to you."
"Please call me Jacob. Thank you for everything you are doing for them!" I nod at him and turn to walk out the room with Dr. Gerandy.
"Dr. Gerandy do you want to scrub in?"
"I would, thank you! The OR is this way." I follow him to the OR and begin scrubbing in.
SAM:
I finally am able to doze off around 12 but not longer after I hear Paul howling. I jump up and rush out the house, not bothering to put on clothes. Once I'm on the back patio I phase in to see what's going on. It must be something serious because Paul hasn't phased in about 5 years.
"What's going on?" We all think at the same time
"Jacob called Rachel to let us know they are about to rush Bell's into surgery. The specialist called them not to long ago and told them to get the hospital. When they got there they found out there is a tumor on her uterus that is not only causing Bell's and the baby's heart rate to decrease but its sucking the blood away from the baby. I'm going to head up to the hospital and wait with Jake. Does anybody else wanna go?"
"I do" everyone says at the same time.
"Lets meet at my house in about 10 minutes and we can carpool together." After that everyone starts to phase out. I rush back to my house in wolf form and as I make my way onto the back patio I phase out. I rush in the house and throw on some clothes. I decide to run to Paul's house instead of driving. It will give me time to clear my head. I pray to Taha Aki to keep Bell's and the baby safe. I make it to Paul's house in about 2 minutes. I don't bother knocking, I just walk on in. I see Rachel pacing back and forth in the living room with one of their newborn son's.
"Any more updates?" I ask.
"No we haven't heard anything else. Spirit's please keep them safe! I pray nothing happens to Bella and that baby. I don't think they could handle losing another baby." As she finishes that sentence I see her snuggle her baby a little bit tighter. Bella has always been excited when a imprint announced they were pregnant and she was an amazing aunt to those babies, but you could always see the sadness in her eyes. We all have been there to help her and Jake out when they said they lost another one and was always excited when they announced they were pregnant again. This baby is the first one to make it this far long and we all prayed so many times to let this baby be born healthy. They never have been able to figure out why she had so many miscarriage's though.
A few minutes later Paul walks into the living room holding their other newborn son and walks over to his imprint to comfort her. He must have felt something in her emotions. A second later the house is feeling up with not only the pack but the imprints and their kids.
"Hope you don't mind us all showing up but I couldn't wait by myself. I see that I was not the only one who couldn't either." Emily, Embry's imprint, says.
"No not at all. I'm glad you all are here. I'm a wreck and the company is highly welcomed. Okay guys go on and check on them. I'm pretty sure Jake is a mess right now. Please keep us updated." Rachel says.
Us guys head on outside to climb in the cars to head up there. Once we get there we see Jake pacing back and forth in the waiting room. You can tell he is tore up on the inside over this. He looks up and sees us. He begins to walk over to us.
"Thank you for coming! I couldn't have done this by myself. They just took her back to surgery. The doctor seems confidant that everything will be okay. I can hear them in the OR and that has me on pins and needles. What if something goes wrong? I don't think I could remain seated."
"Jake no matter what you hear you will not get up from that chair until I say so!" I Alpha ordered.
"Thank you Sam for that!"
"Do you know how long the surgery will take?" Seth ask. You could tell he was struggling that his step sister was having surgery. Since Charlie passed away a few years ago from a car accident, he has stepped up and been there for her so much. He was there for her before but not like he is now.
"No I don't. The doctor didn't say. She just said that they were in good hands."
After that we all just sat in silenced and listened in on what was going on in the OR. Everything was going good the first hour of surgery but after that everything changed.
"Oh no you don't Isabella!" We heard the doctor say and then she flat lined.
A/N: KINDA SORRY TO END ON A CLIFFHANGER BUT THAT'S WERE THE CHARACTERS LEAD ME TO END AT. ALSO I AM NOT A DOCTOR OR KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE MEDICAL FIELD. THIS WAS JUST MY IMAGINATION RUNNING WILD IN THE FOREST. I WAS OFF TODAY SO Y'ALL WILL HAVE A EXTRA CHAPTER THIS WEEKEND. I WILL POST THE NEXT CHAPTER EITHER TONIGHT OR TOMORROW.
