AN: this is gonna be a really long chapter. Kinda obnoxious, I know, but I really think somebody should have made this already so if you don't like how I did it then why don't you make your own fanfiction. I own nothing, RWBY is owned by Rooster Teeth and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is owned by FUSE
"The first vision I'm showing is a personal favorite of mine. It is a retaliation made after a great tragedy occurred." Broker Explained with his arms wide and a smile stretching across his face.
Ruby shakely raised her hand to get brokers attention, "W-what tragedy?"
"You will have to see for yourself Ms Rose."
Ruby pouted at the flippant response to her question but nevertheless she quieted down as the screen flared to life.
No matter how kind the soul, one can only be pushed so far before they snap.
Qrow and Ironwood scowled at the line, they had seen examples of this much too often, as had Ozpin.
The hunters in training shrunk in on themselves. They already didn't like where this vision was going.
Church soldier: "Someone approaching ahead! All troops, prepare for battle!"
The man who had spoken was dressed in what looked to be medieval armor with a sword of similar appearance. The lack of unique weapons left Ruby to sigh in disappointment. The others, however, watched closely, as words popped onto the screen saying that the man was a temple knight that apparently deployed a 'prison field' whatever that was. Then it explained that despite how well set up they were the temple knights never let their guard down, always remaining vigilant.
Ironwood grunted approvingly at this, he had seen many hunters fall to the grim because of overconfidence. These temple knights, whoever they were, clearly had admirable discipline that rivaled atlas soldiers.
And yet…
?:"Sorry, man, but you're gonna help me vent my anger a bit."
It was almost haughty the way he put it but nobody was there to complain. In an instant they were all dead. With his sword encased in jet black flame, he cut the knights neatly in half—armor and all—as easily as ripping a sheet of paper. Their fresh blood stained the ground red, like crimson fields of flowers blooming amid the black fire.
Everyone was stunned silent at the sheer display of violence. Even the experienced huntsman and huntresses had rarely seen such a pure act of hatred, the rage was so intense that they could feel it even through the screen. Before anyone could ask Broker simply shook his head and forced their focus back to the screen. Their confusion remained, especially for the younger members like Ruby, who was on the verge of tears.
Church soldier: "N-nobody said anything about this…this…monster…"
The final resentment of the man pushed ruby over the edge as she started to sob. Surprisingly the one to comfort her first was Broker. He draped an arm over her as he murmured in comforting tone words that the others couldn't hear. Whatever he said quickly dried her tears but she still remained unstable causing Yang to move to comfort her younger half-sister along with Penny. Leaving them alone, the other viewers turned back to the screen as a strange crystalline device appeared. The Schnes wondered if it was a type of dust but quickly dismissed the idea, it was too big even the largest dust crystal was only half the size of the stone in this device. While the Schne's were contemplating what it was, the others, especially Ozpin, were wondering what it did, but with their lack of information all they could do was turn to Broker for answers.
"That is a barrier crystal." he started surprising the group, they didn't expect him to answer their questions. "That piece of information wasn't described in the vision so I decided to explain it myself so you could better understand what is happening." They all nodded it lined up with his previous behavior.
Ironwood was starting to create a profile for Broker, if he could understand how broker responds to stimuli he might be able to make this situation benefit Atlas. (AN:when he has enough information to have a sizable profile i'll post it.)
"What does it do?" Blake asked, tilting her head.
"Basically, it creates a field where certain individuals are weakened immensely."
The group all nodded with different levels of comprehension. Ozpin and his group wished they had such a device for hunting grim, but for the rest it merely seemed like a cool device.
The red haired man sliced through the crystal with one swing and quickly turned to the west.
?:now are any of my allies pathetic enough to be having trouble with this?
The doubt was clear in his voice but he started walking, presumably towards his allies location. Letting the group get their first good look at him. He wore red clothes that they couldn't identify and his hair was just as crimson but one thing easily stood out to everyone there.
"He has horns!" Ruby exclaimed.
"What is he?" Qrow asked what all of them were thinking.
Broker once again paused the vision before turning to face the startled group. "That is Benimaru, the head of the military in the monster nation of tempest."
The words monster nation stunned RWBY and JNPR but Ozpin's group focused on another part of his sentence.
"He is the head of the military? Then why is he out on the battlefield himself.?" Ironwood was perplexed at why a high ranking officer would be alone on a field of battle.
"Battle in this world worries more about quality than quantity, a single individual could very well be capable of wiping out an army by themselves. But to answer the question about what he is, he is an ogre mage, an evolved form of ogre that is considered leader among their tribes."
"Wait ogres like the grim?!" Ruby asked, she and her team had a bad experience with an ogre grim during their second real mission, not as bad as the mount gleen incident but still pretty bad.
"No they are completely different! Ogres in this world, while powerful, have no interest in conflict, they are one of the most peaceful of the races considered monsters. They are much more like faunes than grim." The fervent speech that Broker delivered left most people speechless, but one particular fanus raised her hand to get his attention.
"I see, is that the reason for this war?" RWY and JNPR turned to face Blake confused at her words, but Ozpin's group understood what she meant. Discrimination, if they truly were like the fanus of this world then it was likely that humans discriminated against them.
"Yes and no. tempest is a nation made and run by monsters that is indeed one reason that they are under attack. However the bigger reason is that they are simply valuable."
Everyone except for the Shnes and Ozpin were confused. Seeing this, Broker continued his explanation.
"They are significantly more advanced than most human nations, using their resources along with the unique abilities that monsters possess they created new trade roots and now-"
"The big nations want a piece of the profits." Winter cut Broker off. "And because tempest is created by these 'monsters' they think that they can get away with anything that they want." The disgust in her voice surprised the others, except Weis and Ironwood who knew Winter's hatred of racists.
"Exactly."
After a moment of silence the vision continued. The words Southern point appeared on the screen.
A group of creatures that look like lizards on legs, except for the wings. There were dozens of them each equipped for battle in various types of armor.
?. Gah-ha-ha-ha! I've finally been given a place in the sun! I was hoping my successes in putting our potions on the market would have merited my appointment to higher government by now… But then we had this distraction happen to us. It is simply outrageous that these minions should get in my way! Isn't it?
The contrast between the brutality of the last scene and the jovility now present left all of them speechless.
The soldiers: It is exactly as you say, Sir Gabil!
Gabil: Yes! Yes, precisely! But! If this battle can prove to Sir Rimuru that I can be of aid to him, I am all but guaranteed a lofty role in his hierarchy! I want to see the full extent of your force in action right now, people! Show them what a dragonewt riled is capable of!
Ozpin shifted his head to Broker, "Who is this 'Sir Rimuru'"
"He is the leader of tempest, you may think of him as the king."
He hummed in interest, he must be a fine king for his people to seek his approval so much.
The soldiers shouted their agreement but some of them whispered that they already believe in Gabil, regardless of what others think.
Everyone smiled at the trust present on screen. Regardless of how they looked, the people were incredibly relatable for them. But to the ones who remembered what was going on, this caused even greater tension. The quote, combined with how the vision is playing out, seemed to be leading up to one massive breaking point.
The screen cut to show another company of temple knights guarding a barrier crystal. Like the previous group they were vigilant but it didn't help them at all. They were sent into chaos when blasts of fire, ice, and wind.
Church knight: These aren't lizard men are they?! They don't have this level of power much less wings to fly with.
Commander: Don't panic, they dragonewts. Much rarer but nothing we can't handle.
The group turned to face the broker who sighed. "It doesn't matter right now, okay?"
Reluctantly they nodded.
The church soldiers turned to face the new threat, reforming into a new position.
Ironwood hummed in appreciation, "they seem quite skilled to be able to recover so quickly."
Glynda nodded in agreement, "Such calm would be quite useful for combating the grim. Some of you could take notes." She glared pointedly at Nora and Yang, who shifted in their seats embarrassedly.
Brooker held back a laugh. Wondering how the professor would react to the otherworlders.
Despite the soldiers best efforts, the dragonewts clearly outmatched them, and the shock at their opponents coordination still lingered. One after another they were cut down, and even if a counter landed the reptilian creatures used some potion, as described in the subtitles, to recover almost instantly.
Church soldier: god smite them all, we hit them and hit them but they just keep coming.
Commander: don't panic, call for reinforcements.
One shoulder moved to obey but was quickly struck down by the appearance of Gabil, who was wielding a trident that appeared to be made from carved bone.
"Whoever is leading these creatures truly is a talented strategist." Ozpin stated.
"Indeed, the use of his opponents' assumptions about them to create chaos and panic is quite the ingenious strategy." Ironwood agreed.
Jaune spoke up, "Being viewed as beasts, so by working together smoothly their opponent is left in shambles, with no way over recovering."
"Imagine if the grim were that smart." Ruby said, causing all of the students to shiver, and the members of the ozinati to look at each other tensely.
"Shesh don't be so grim rubes." yang punned trying to lighten the mood, causing everyone, excluding ozpin and his group(-qrow), to groan.
The captains face contorted in rage as he attacked Gabil, Screaming out "may god damn you now"
Gabil easily deflected the man's strike and countered with his trident. "So you are the captain of this force, very well. My name is Gabil, consider it a gift for the next life."
Shock flashed onto the captain's face before he quickly squashed it. "A named monster, very well you will prove a worthy opponent for me."
"Why does it matter that he has a name?" Nora asked with her head tilted.
"In this world naming a monster increases their power, however doing so requires a very powerful entity so named monsters are incredibly rare."
"And I assume the one who named both Gabil and Benimaru is this Rimuru?" Ozpin guessed, to which Broker responded with a nod.
Wies sighed at the captains words, "even in this situation he's still arrogant."
"Kinda reminds me of torchwick." responded Yang, making all the students hold in a snicker.
Despite his prideful words it didn't take long for the captain and his remaining soldiers to fall. The scene ended with a crystal very similar to the one seen before being destroyed by a thrust of gabil spear.
The screen cut to black with the words "over to the north."
A dark skinned man with one horn surrounded by a small group humanoid figures, mostly female, with reptilian wings was racing through the trees. Jumping from shadow to shadow.
Ironwood humed, "I wonder if there is someone with a semblance like that."
Winter scribbled on her note book, "I'll look into it sir." to which the general nodded approvingly.
A cough came from the Qrows direction that sounded suspiciously like "kiss ass." getting a glave from the older Schne.
Church soldiers were briefly shown before razor thin threads cut them all to ribbons.
Even the experienced huntsmen were speechless at this, the efficiency at which they dispatched their opponents showed just how skilled this group was.
Ironwood, as well as Ozpin to a lesser extent, truly wished that these individuals were present in remnant, the situation with Salem would be much better if they did.
The group appeared in front of the crystal and the one horned man quickly shattered it. A young woman, who appeared to be the head of the man's entourage approached before kneeling down.
"I apologise, Lord Soei, these soldiers were much weaker than we expected." While killing all the men at the four sites would have been difficult, they would have been able to destroy the crystals without difficulty. she was about to continue before the man, Soei, cut her off.
After seeing the accomplishments of the group, along with those of the other two parties no one doubted that they could have done exactly what they said.
"Apologizing is meaningless. I am the one who shall make the final judgment. Plus…" A distant look came over his face as three figures surrounded by corpses appeared on screen. "I was hoping they would be here but I guess they are in the west after all, just as lord Rimuru predicted."
The group turned to look at Broker and he just sighed. "Long story short, those individuals were much stronger than the soldiers so Soei determined that if they attacked all locations at one they would be defeated once they encountered those three. That's why her apology is pointless"
All the team leaders nodded, perfectly understanding the importance of properly evaluating their opponent.
Nora, of all people, pressed further. "But who are they?"
Brocker merely smiled and said, "you'll see"
Frustrated, they turned their attention back to the screen.
"...But who can say, who the unfortunate ones are." A smile split Soeis face as an old man with two horns appeared on screen. The name Hakuro appeared underneath the old man as a dark aura consumed him. "Those fools conducted their killing as a pleasure hunt, but I wonder how they will respond now that they are facing the sword ogre himself."
That one sentence erased any pity the crowd had for the church knights. The idea of pleasure killing disgusted the younger hunters. Ozpin's group remembered the story of the serial killer Tyrain Calos, the serial killer who had taken over 60 lives before his arrest. The state of the bodys were, revolting to say the least. They would be lying if they said that they didn't feel a small bit of relief when the prison he was being held in got overrun by the grim.
Qrow downed The rest of his flask, and Ozpin did the same for his coffee. Growing up in a tribe of bandits, Qrow had seen all types of crazies, from perverts who got of one raping people to death, to torturers who killed in the slowest ways imaginable, and everything in between. Very little would surprise him now, but he still had just as much hatred for such people as ever. Ozpin knew of the depraved depths of humanity even better than Qrow did, considering how ancient he was.
"Break they're legs." Nora shouted, and while none of them said it out loud everyone agreed with her.
They were about to continue before a cell phone appeared out of thin air right next to Brooker. "Hey hey, Broker. What do you think you're doing? Holding such an exciting event without telling me."
The chaos god just sighed heavily at the female voice exciting the phone as he turned to face it. "What I am doing is not an 'event' as you call it but my job. You would not do that if you ever did yours D." he responded in a completely flat tone, his eyes as empty as his tone.
"Hey are you forgetting that I'm your superior, Broker. Should you really be talking back to me. Where's that incineration button.?" a rustling sound filled the air as Brocker just looked completely done with their shit.
"I know your bluffing D."
"Oh and how's that?"
"Three reasons, one if you did so you would be hunted down by the gods of destruction, two if I died you would have a lot more work on you hands giving the fact that I am the one taking care of all the universes you are SUPPOSED to govern, also if you continue to fuck around with me I will start refusing to do the extra work you pushed onto me because its not my job. And three you pulled the incineration button gag on that spider of yours."
"Going point by point, one fair enough but you forgot to consider how little i care, two that is honestly a terrifying thought pls don't, and three fair enough I guess I forgo- WAIT HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT?!"
Brocker just looked at the phone with a, are you serious expression, "did you forget that I am the one manages that world. How WOULDN'T I notice that."
A cough was heard from the other side and then, "yeah didn't think about that so would you mind- uhh not mentioning that to-"
"Don't worry I stopped caring about the shit you pull after the first 10 seconds of working with you."
"Yeah thanks, remind me to give you a raise, or take you out to dinner. Whichever comes first."
"Note to self, avoid you until raise evaluations are due."
"Disappointing. But anyway I came by to tell you to add a few more members."
"What?! Why?" for the first time Brocker seemed flustered.
"Because it's horribly biased, I mean only one side, that's not like you Broker."
"Fine I'll get right on that." he turned back to the audience with an exasperated look on his face.
"Good I'm looking forward to what happens next." the phone said in an excited voice.
"Oh and one last thing," Broker looked over his shoulder with a massive grin on his face, "you better get those raises done on time or I'll be letting big sis Nirvana know about that little spider experiment of yours." Almost bursting out in laughter, Broker shook his cane and made the phone disappear before the owner could respond.
Dusting off his clothes he returned his attention to the audience.
"Um who was-" Ruby began before getting cut off by Broker.
"My lazy ass boss, now Let's get some new guests." and with that Broker shocked his cane once more and in a flash of light, Mercury Black, Cinder Fall, and Emerald Sustrai appeared from nowhere.
"Welcome to my theater, care for some popcorn before we continue the show?" Broker said with an exaggerated bow.
