Before I can even react Katniss is screaming, "WE VOLUNTEER!" Katniss is called up to the stage and I start following. Focusing on my steps as I do when I get nervous. Then Effie Trinket is snapping at me to get down, a boy with deep black hair runs up and hands her a piece of paper. I'm assuming it explains our situation because a moment later Effie is announcing the girl tributes for district 12 are Oaklen and Katniss Everdeen. This got a large amount of murmuring and wondering what could be on that paper that caused for the change in rules. Me and Katniss both sit together on a chair because they didn't set 3 chairs for the tributes. Me and Katniss are staring at each other and communicating, "Why didn't you ask before you volunteered?" I questioned her. "Oh as if you wouldve let Prim go by herself to the Hunger games." She snapped back. She was right of course. I was upset and taking my anger out on her. I apologized and then I saw her panic. They called the boy tribute, it was Peeta Mellark. She was remembering the day with the bread. She was remembering my constant claims that that he had a crush on her. I saw a wave of panic go over her as the boy with the bread walked up. The boy who had blond hair and blue eyes. The boy who nobody volunteered for. This wasn't odd of course. His family is accepting he will die. Most siblings wouldn't volunteer like us. I look into Katnisses eyes and say "It's okay. The odds that you will have to kill him are very slim," I see her relax but she's still extremely tense.
The next thing I know me and Katniss are being taken to the justice building to say good bye to our friends and family. First my mother and Prim. I take Prim on my lap and stroke her blond hair while Katniss yells at our mother to make sure Prim had food. Before they leave of course I make sure to tell them that we love them because I guarantee Katniss will feel guilty later. Then Katniss tells me that we should not under any circumstances cry. Because then people will think we're weak. Then the baker walks in. Well that was unexpected. He gives us a pack of cookies and promises to make sure Prim is well fed, we promise not to kill Peeta. Not directly of course. Then Gale walks in, I let him and Katniss have a moment but I do give Gale a hug on his way out. Then Madge walks in, I expect her to walk over to me but she walked straight over to Katniss, she whispered something to her then said to me, "What's your district token?" "I don't have one," I admit "Oh well we can fix that and she hands me a half of a small golden locket, then she says that they are best friend lockets, and I open it and notice she's on my half and I'm on her half, once she leaves I notice there is a mockingjay engraved on it, and there is one on the pin she gave Katniss too.
