The next day Shiro and the others woke up to the sound of someone yelling, "BRANWEN!" and Olivia was trying her best to hide her amusement but failed as she let out small giggles and snorts. Shiro yawned as he looked up at Olivia as he let out a sigh as he said, "Please tell me you didn't do anything Olivia?" and Olivia looked innocently at Shiro as she replied,
"Of course not Shiro, why would you think I did something?"
Naomi looked up from her bed as she said to Olivia, "Because you're not fooling anyone with that pitiful attempt to hide your laughter Olivia, what did you do?" and then Olivia had a beaming smile on her face as she replied,
"Okay, so...I may or may not have placed a glitter bomb in team TERA's dorm room and left a note saying that Shiro was responsible."
Shiro then face palmed as he looked at Olivia as he let out another sigh and said, "I really wish you wouldn't do things like this sometimes Olivia. I'm pretty sure Tina hates me after last night and this certainly isn't going to make things any better between us." and Westlyn frowned a little as she said to Olivia,
"I really hope you would stop with these childish pranks Olivia, we are supposed to be huntsman and huntresses. People aren't going to take us seriously if you keep pulling pranks on people."
Naomi looked up from her book she was reading as she looked at Westlyn and said, "I agree Westlyn, we should start acting serious if we want people to take us seriously, besides we have an assembly to get to as Professor Ozpin will be announcing which teams will be representing Beacon in the VYTAL tournament."
While Shiro and the others were walking down the hall towards the assembly hall, Shiro frowned a little as he looked around and saw Tina actively trying to avoid him, meanwhile Rachel bumped into the back of Ruby causing both girls to collapse to the ground before Rachel blushed a little at Ruby as she said, "S-sorry I wasn't looking where I was going. I should learn to be more careful of my surroundings." and Ruby blushed a little back at Rachel as she replied,
"Oh uh it's ok, no harm done. What's your name?"
And Rachel's cheeks blushed a little deeper as she said, "I-I'm Rachel. Rachel Belladonna, team TERA. I'm Blake's cousin." and Ruby smiled at Rachel as she stood on her feet and offered her a hand up as she replied,
"I'm Ruby. Ruby Rose. Team leader of team RWBY. Uh nice to meet you, Rachel."
Rachel accepted the offer as Ruby pulled her up to feet before she smiled slightly at Ruby as she said, "Likewise Ruby, I hope we share some classes with each other. We should hurry to he assembly." and Ruby smiled at Rachel as she replied,
"Uh I hope we share some classes with each other too! 'cause you know it umm means we could hang out more. but...yeah we should probably get to assembly before we get yelled at by Goodwitch."
The Assembly…
Once the students were filed into the assembly hall, Professer Ozpin stood on stage and took a sip of his coffee before he said into the microphone, "Good morning students, as you know the VYTAL festival is the most important time of the year as it is a festival where we celebrate peace, every year there is a tournament held to see who among us is the best, and this year is no different. This is the 53rd VYTAL tournament and as such I have selected three teams. These teams I believe will represent Beacon the best."
Shiro looked hopeful as he listened to Ozpin's speech, he hoped his team would one of the teams chosen to represent Beacon in the VYTAL tournament. This would give him a chance to prove to his farther that he has what it takes to be huntsman, though the likelyhood of his farther actually watching the tournament was slim at best. Ozpin continued his speech as he said, "The three teams I have chosen, not only show promise as a team but I feel as though one of these teams I have chosen may well be the odds on favourite. The first team I have chosen to represnt Beacon will be...Team JNPR! the second team I have chosen will be...Team RWBY! and last but certainly not least, the final team I have chosen to represent Beacon shall be...Team SNOW!"
And Shiro was shocked that his team was chosen to not only represent Beacon Academy but he was also shocked at the prospect that he may have to face one or both of his cousins in the tournament. Westlyn smiled as she said to Shiro, "I can't believe we were chosen as one of the teams to represent Beacon Academy! This is our chance to show everyone that Team SNOW is not to be underestimated!" and Shiro smiled at Westlyn as he replied,
"Yeah, honestly I'm surprised we were chosen to represent Beacon Academy in the VYTAL tournament. We will most definitely be up against some tough competition but...I know we can walk away with the win! I bet my cousin Ruby is just as excited as we are to be in the tournament!"
Blake noticed Shiro through the crowd of students and flashed him a wink making Shiro blush a little, before Shiro looked at Westlyn as he said, "W-we should probably head to our first lesson, Ruby and the others are probably busy preparing for the tournament." and Westlyn let out a small giggle as she replied,
"Looks like someone has a crush on someone, come on, you can tell me who has your eye on the way to Grimm studies with Professor Port. Don't worry I won't tell."
Shiro's eyes then widened at Westlyn as he said, "W-what? I don't have a crush on anyone!" and Westlyn let out a small giggle as she replied,
"Sure you don't Shiro, I bet I can probably guess who it is. You have a crush on Blake don't you? I've seen the dreamy look on your face whenever you look at her."
Then Shiro rubbed the back of his head slightly as he let out a nervous laugh as he said, "Is it really that obvious? I mean...I like Blake, I have liked Blake for a really long time. I...I think she likes me too." and Westlyn smiled at Shiro as the walked down the hall towards class together as she replied,
"How long exactly have you liked Blake for? Maybe you should think about asking her to the dance after the Tournament, which we will win of course!"
Shiro then rapidly shook his head as he said, "Are you kidding me? There's no way Blake would want to go to the dance with me. Besides...I'm pretty sure she already has a date for the dance anyway..."
Later…
During their lesson with Professor Port, Ruby couldn't stop herself from grinning ear to ear and was softly bouncing up and down in her seat whilst taking notes, at least that's what it looked like she was doing when in reality she was doodling a picture of Rachel and Blake smiled at Ruby and let out a small giggle as she said to her, "It seems you have taken a liking to my cousin Rachel, Ruby."
Ruby tried to play it cool as she looked at Blake and replied, "I-I uh what? No, I-I was busy planning our strategy for the VYTAL tournament." and Yang let out a small giggle of her own as she smiled at her sister and said,
"Really sis? Because this looks more like a picture of Rachel than actual battle plans, you like Rachel don't you?"
And Ruby flailed at her sister as she desperately tried to get her picture back as her cheeks went as red as her cloak she wore over her uniform as she protested, "YANG! Give that back! I need it, so uh I can take notes. NOT because I like Rachel!" meanwhile Rachel was sitting with her team mates watching the scene unfold and let out a small giggle to herself, which her leader Tina noticed as she smiled at her and said,
"So Rach, which member of Team RWBY have ya got your cat's eye on? Don't think I haven't been watching you staring at them almost all of class."
Rachel then blushed deeply at Tina as she replied, "I-I don't know what you're talking about Tina, I might fancy someone from Team SNOW or Team JNPR." and Tina almost fell off her seat in laughter as she looked at Rachel and said,
"Pfft. Be honest with me Rach, I know you have been looking at that my cousin Ruby since you bumped into her before assembly earlier. If ya need a wingwoman all ya have to do is ask and I'll be happy to help you get with my cousin Ruby. I think you and Ruby would make the most adorable couple."
And Rachel then let out a sigh of defeat as she smiled at Tina and said, "Fine. Maybe I do like Ruby a little, but I don't know if she likes me the same way. If I let you be my wingwoman Tina, will stop teasing me? I only teased you a little when you had a crush on Sapphire." and Ashe smiled at Rachel as she said,
"I don't think you have to worry about if Ruby has a crush on you or not Rachel, 'cause if she didn't have any feelings for you then she wouldn't be sitting in class grinning to herself while doodling pictures of you. Oh and by the way you have been doodling pictures of Ruby as well, that may not have been your intention but that's what you have been doing whether you ment to do it or not."
Tina then smiled at Rachel as she quietly exclaimed, "YES! Don't worry Rachel, I will be the best wingwoman ever! Just leave everything to me. I'll have my cousin asking ya to the dance in no time." and Rachel let out a small sigh to herself as she thought, "Why am I suddenly worried about what Tina will say about me to Ruby…"
After class…
While Shiro and the others were slowly filing out of the classroom, Tina ran over to her cousin as she said to her in a songful tone, "Oh Ruby! Your unofficial big sister wants a word with you." and Ruby motioned to her friends to go on without her as she walked over to Tina and perked a brow as she replied,
"Uh unofficial big sister? Really Tina? and umm what did you want to talk to me about?"
And Tina let out a small giggle as she said, "What? don't look at me like that cousin. We both know Yang is our real big sister, that's why I am the self proclaimed unofficial big sister!" before she then quickly added, "Anyway that's not what I wanted to talk to you about, you see there's someone on my team who is super into you. I'm talking madly in love with you! I think you should totally try and ask them to go with you to the dance as your date cousin it will be awesome! and you will certainly make heads turn."
Ruby then blushed a little at her cousin Tina as she shyly replied, "I uh I mean I think Edward is pretty nice and he does have a cool weapon...but...I don't know if he would want to go to the dance with me as he might have a date already." and Tina rolled her eyes at her cousin as she said,
"I wasn't talking about Eddie you dolt! Eddie is dating Tanya of Team STRM. I'm talking about Rachel! She's the one madly in love with you! She was doodling pictures of you in her book during class for dust sake! Rachel is super cool, you'll like her cousin trust me. Plus she likes the same thing you like cousin, books!" before she then let out a soft sigh as she added, "Look I'm not trying to force you to go to the dance with Rachel, but...will you at least think about asking her? I'm sure it would really make her day and I think the two of you would make the second cutest couple at the dance, the first being myself and Sapphire of course."
And Ruby's cheeks then blushed a little deeper as she then let out a serious of small giggles as she smiled at Tina as she replied, "Ok, ok cousin you kinda sound like Weiss, but you made your point. I'll uh I'll think about asking Rachel if she would like to go to the dance with me. and uh I guess Rachel does seem pretty cool. We should probably catch up with the others in the lunch hall." before she then started walking towards the lunch hall with Tina following behind.
The lunch hall…
Shiro was sitting at a table with the rest of his team, while Team RWBY sat on the opposite side of the table. Team JNPR were sat on a table behind them followed by three of the members of Team TERA, Tina of course was sitting next to her girlfriend Sapphire on the next table over with the rest of Team STRM. And Sapphire smiled at Tina as she said in a southern tone, "Y'know Tina, I think you should give that Shiro fella a chance. He's not so bad once you get to know him a little, and he obviously feels bummed about what he said to you when ya first met."
And Tina smiled back at Sapphire as she gave her a peck on her cheek as she let out a sigh as she replied, "I guess I did kinda write Shiro off without really giving him a chance Saph, I guess I have been so burned by what Ashe said about me that I have found it diffcult to make new friends. I should probably try and talk to Shiro instead actively avoiding him and apologize."
Tanya then smiled at Tina as she said, "That might be a good idea Tina, I've never been a fan of Ashe since she did what she did. And...I kinda like that Shiro kid, and Olivia is pretty cool too." and Tina let out a small giggle as she replied,
"Speaking of Ashe Tanya, she is still super mad about the glitter bomb incident this morning. It will take us weeks to clean up all that glitter. Whoever put that bomb in our dorm must have a good sense of humour."
Then Tanya had a smirk on her face as she said to Tina, "By the way Tina, a little birdie told me that Rachel has been bitten with the love bug, I want all the juicy details as to who has gotten that bookworms attention." and Tina smiled at Tanya as she replied,
"By a little birdie, I assume Eddie told you about Rachel having a crush on someone. Rachel has had her eye on my cousin Ruby ever since she bumped into her this morning. I bet those two will totally be a couple by the end of the VYTAL festival."
Meanwhile Yang smirked at her sister as she said, "So sis, you and Rachel huh? wanna tell us about that? I think it's adorable that my lil sister has a crush." and Ruby blushed a little as she replied,
"YANG! I uh I don't know if I do have a crush on Rachel, at least not yet anyway. But I umm I do like her though, she seems cool. Like Blake."
Blake then smiled at Ruby as she said, "Well Ruby, if it helps then...I think my cousin Rachel really likes you too. Maybe you should ask her if she would like go to the dance with you?" and Shiro was about to say something when a piece of food hit Yang in the face, causing her liluc colour eyes to turn red while Olivia sat at the table and proudly exclaimed,
"FOOD FIGHT!"
The other students then quickly ran for the door of the luch hall while Nora stood upon a pile of tables and let out a maniacal laugh as she said, "I'm queen of the castle! I'm queen of the castle!" and Ruby looked up at Nora defiantly with her milk carton in her hand and replied,
"Justice will be swift, justice will be painful, it will be delicious!"
Before crushing the milk carton in her hand as the rest of her team mates rallied behind her, before Nora then jumped down from the pile of tables she was standind on and grabbed a couple of watermelons and threw them at Ruby and the others as she said, "Off with their heads!" and Jaune and the others flipped a few other tables that had watermelons on them sending them flying towards Ruby and the others.
Ruby then saw a couple of turkeys sitting on the table before looking at her sister as she said, "Yang, turkeys!" and Yang rolled onto the table placing the turkeys over her hands and using them as gloves as she punched a few of the incoming watermelons before she was hit by a few of them as well sending her back across the room.
Shiro then ran across the room and picked up a breadstick as he charged at Pyrrah who also picked a breadstick as they swung the breadsticks at each other, they looked into each other's determined eyes as they clashed before Pyrrah kicked Shiro in his ribs knocking him backwards as his breadstick broke before she threw a second breadstick towards him knocking him into the back wall.
Meanwhile, Sun was busy talking with Neptune outside the lunch hall completely ignoring the food fight happening inside as he said, "I just don't wanna screw this up y'know? They're a really cool bunch and I would love for you to meet them, but you have to be cool, ya gonna be cool right?" and Neptune looked at Sun as he flashed him a smile as he replied,
"Dude."
And Sun just nodded his head as he said, "Good point. Anyway, they're just in here. You'll love them as much as I do trust me." before they then walked into the lunch hall and Sun had a beaming smile on his face while Neptune had a look of shock as they watched the ensuing food fight happening around them.
Nora then grabbed a pole and attached a watermelon to end of it and treated it like a hammer as she swung it wildly at Yang who did her best to dodge or block the incoming strikes before Nora then hit Yang so hard she broke the watermelon as she launched Yang through the roof of the lunch hall, before Blake then grabbed a row of sausages and used them like a whip as she swung them at Nora knocking her back into the soda machines, before Nora then grabbed a couple of soda cans and threw them at Blake but Blake managed to dodge most of them.
Pyrrah then used her semblance as she launched a tidal wave of soda cans towards Blake and the others knocking them back, Ruby then had a determined look on her face as she sprinted around the room picking up speed before she used her semblance creating a vortex that sent Nora and the rest of Team JNPR crashing into a wall while a series of watermelons and ketchup and soda cans pelted them while they were stuck against the wall before they then slowly peeled off the wall behind Ruby.
Glynda then stormed into the lunch hall and fixed the mess they had made as she said, "Children! please do not play with your food." Yang then came crashing back down next to Ruby and the others before Glynda then let out a small sigh as she looked at Ozpin who was standing next to her as she said, "They are supposed to be the protectors of the world…"
Ozpin then took a sip of his coffee as he looked at Glynda and said, "And they will be, but right now they are still children. So why not let them play the part? After all, they won't be children forever." and Sun smiled at Neptune as he said,
"I love these guys."
A/N: I had to include the food fight as it was such a iconic moment in the RWBY series. and it seems that Rachel and Ruby may be developing feelings towards each other. What other mischief will Team SNOW get up to before they fight in the VYTAL tournament? Will Team TERA get revenge for Olivia's glitter bomb prank? Stay tuned to find out.
