Chapter 02: Michiru Kagemori: Origin
Anima City
"So what's the situation here Mayor Rose?" Asked Michiru.
Mayor Rose had asked Shirou, Michiru and Nazuna to come see her immediately because she had news.
None of them knew what it was but were still curious, assuming something bad had happened.
"Oh nothing actually, but it is good news." Said Mayor Rose as she turned around while smiling, making Michiru tiredly sigh.
"You really made it sound like it was the end of the world." Said Michiru as she crossed her arms, making Nazuna giggle beside her.
"Well maybe to the Anti-Beastman." Said the Mayor.
The trio looked at the Mayor with raised eyebrows, even Kuro turned his head in confusion.
"Our first human citizens of Anima city will arrive later today, they so far include families that support Beastman Equality and others that volunteered." Said the Mayor with joy in her tone.
"Hey that's incredible, I didn't think it would be this soon!" Yelled Nazuna excitedly.
"Yeah, but how would the Beastman react?" Asked Shirou as he did not want to cause another outburst like what Alan tried to do.
"That's in uncharted territory Ogami, but of course I've notified the city officials and the rest of Anima City, some took it better than others after the Nirvasyl Syndrome event…" Said The May as everyone was in silent as they remembered what happened with Nazuna of the greatest guilt as she was the reason it happened.
"But still, I'm taking precautions to make sure both sides adjust to one another at their own pace, that's why I would like the help of you three." Said the Mayor as she pointed to the three of them.
"It's not gonna be easy, but it'll be good to help anyway we can." Said Nazuna confidently with Michiru nodding in agreement.
"I won't let another tragic event happen again here. We'll do what we can." Said Shirou.
Mayor Rose smiled to see the trio agreed without question.
"It's good that you've agreed, so let's start on assignments-" Said Mayor Rose but couldn't finish when the lights started to flicker in the room, the group looked up to see the lights had gone out leaving the emergency power to come on.
"Huh what's going on?" Asked Michiru in confusion as this never happened before, even when she started living here.
Mayor Rose attempted to call security but the lines were cut off.
"There's no connection, our phones aren't working." Replied the Mayor.
Nazuna checked her phone, showing it to the group while Shirou heard an explosion further down outside the room, taking the group by surprise.
"Stay here!" Yelled Shirou as he ran out to investigate, when Shirou left the group they felt another explosion that made the ground shake.
Michiru didn't want to wait any longer, she started to run to the door before while Kuro, Nazuna and Mayor Rose followed behind to stop her.
"Shirou!" Yelled Michiru, trying to find her friend but was quiet.
She realized from the smell of smoke, she caught an idea.
She cleared her mind, morphing her nose into a wolf snout to track the scent.
It didn't take long to find Shirou and where the smoke came from, seeing Shirou trying to get wounded workers out of one of the hallway.
"Dammit Michiru I told you to stay where you were!" Yelled Shirou but before he could say anything else he felt the ground rumble below him.
He looked down to see the ground cracked but through the openings shined bright blue light.
"What the?!" Asked Shirou as he could only push an injured worker out of the range of the falling ground, but Michiru jumped forward trying to save her friend, with Kuro right behind her.
"MICHIRU!" Yelled Nazuna , seeing the bright light grow as it consumed Michiru, Kuro and Shirou within.
As the light vanished, what disappeared were her friends and the ground that was below them, she stood there speechless beside Mayor Rose.
Nazuna got on her knees, tears flowing down her eyes as she both mourned and hoped her best friend was still alive.
She had gotten her friend back and now lost her again, feeling responsible for not being able to save her.
By the time the power came back, Mayor Rose wasted no time to call for aid on her phone.
"Get me the chief and send out search parties, we need to find Shirou and Michiru!" Yelled the mayor with great worry in her voice.
Night Time in Musutafu
Michiru and Shirou had quickly awoken, recovering from the blast they were in but were surprised to see themselves alive.
Kuro shook his head and flew onto Shirou's shoulder while the duo checked their surroundings, clueless on where they were.
"Wait, where are we?" Asked Michiru as she hoping to see if they were still in Anima City.
"The better question is, how are we not dead?" Asked Shirou as he tried to call Mayor Rose from his phone but to his surprise, the phones weren't working.
The two grew more worried, with the phones not working they had no way to contact anyone which meant they were on their own.
Shirou noticed the damaged alleyway they were in, realizing it was an explosion that burnt and damaged the buildings just as the one they were previously in.
What the hell happened here? Asked Shirou in his head.
The duo then heard the shouts of a man further above them, seeing someone in some kind of a costume as his arms seemed to stretch towards them.
Earlier
It was nighttime in Musutafu, Japan, some people were still out with friends or family.
There was nothing to fear knowing their city couldn't have been safer with Pro-Heroes patrolling the streets, even checking in and greeting their fellow citizens as they patrolled.
From time to time, some citizens would sometimes ask for a picture or even an autograph.
They were practically seen as celebrities, with some Pro-Heroes having to work harder than others to stay in the spotlight and to be ranked as some of the top heroes in Japan.
Kamui Woods, Death Arms, and Mt. Lady were patrolling their usual area during this time, almost never seeing any unusual activity since it's nighttime.
But were more aware of their surroundings since fewer people were out. They walked briefly in silence until Mt. Lady decided to speak.
"I wish something could happen, it's so boring not getting any action at all right now." Said Mt. Lady as she let out a huge sigh.
"You should be thankful for this peace and quiet, after all, that's our job, to insure safety for the people." Said Kamui Woods with Death Arms nodding.
"I agree with you Woods, I think all of our hard work is paying off and crime rates have never been lower, you should be happy Mt. Lady." Said Death Arms while giving her a glare, not really happy how she stole Kamui Wood's credit earlier.
"I know, i know." Said Mt. Lady.
"I guess ever since I became a Pro-Hero so much has happened and I like getting noticed by the public, I love it." Said Mt. Lady as she waving to some men who were walking by, blushing after seeing the giant hero Mt. Lady herself.
"I wonder why." Said Both Death Arms and Woods at the same time while looking at each other remembering the countless villains Mt. Lady encounters had ended with her winning, having countless men swarming her shortly after with even cameras, especially since her quirk lets her grow into a giant woman.
She would end up taking credit every time making it difficult for even the most experienced heroes to be noticed
"Hey!" Yelled Mt. Lady.
"Come on it's not my fault that hundreds of men try to date me, I'm just that cute." Said Mt. Lady as she struck a cute pose.
"Besides it's fun getting some attention from the public, after all some of the flashy quirks are what get heroes in the higher rankings. " Said Mt. Lady as she was willing to do anything to become a popular Pro-Hero, even if she has to steal other people's credit to do it.
"But it's also the approval rating and how much crime you've stopped too Mt. Lady, Endeavor is the number 2 hero, mainly for stopping crimes." Said Kamui Woods.
"But he's not one for, well he's not exactly popular, he doesn't care about being famous, he just cares about getting the job done." Said Mt. Lady.
"Best Jeanist is the number 3 for his high approval rating, at least someone cares about how the people feel." Said Mt. Lady as she always admired the number 3 hero for his compassion for others, he may not have the most crimes stopped as Endeavor or All Might, but he cares about the safety and trust of the public towards heroes.
On the other hand Endeavor didn't care about anyone or anything other than being Number 1.
It seemed so obvious to most people, but because of that determination and relentless desire to beat All Might the "Number 2 Hero" doesn't have much public support, he hardly even acknowledges the citizens or other heroes on patrol or on the scene.
"I agree I personally feel Best Jeanist should be number 2 but I suppose we'll find out once the rankings cha-" Said Death Arms before he was interrupted by the sound of an explosion, shortly after creating a power outage making the streets go dark, causing a panic.
The Pro-Heroes struggled for a few moments trying to assess the situation as they tried to adjust to the darkness of the night.
Shortly after they noticed countless people running from where the sound came from.
As they guided the citizens through the dark hoping to keep the situation to a minimum.
"What happened?" Asked Mt. Lady to one of the panicked citizens
"There was a flashing light then an explosion down an alley a couple blocks away!" Yelled one citizen as he was pointing to the area of where the explosion occurred.
"Did you see anything else?" Asked Death Arms
"I saw people in the alley but it looked like they were up to something!" Yelled the citizen before he run shortly after.
"Be ready guys they could still be in there!" Yelled Kamui Woods as he began to see smoke from the area the civilian spoke of moments earlier.
The 3 Pros rushed to the site of the explosion in an alleyway, only seconds before they could enter another bright light shined and another explosion came from the alley making the Pros cautious of what's within.
Kamui took to the rooftops, using his quirk to get a better view of the scene seeing through the smoke, the sides of the buildings were damaged and burnt from the blast and two people were within the alley, one animal looking female with a tail wearing a red jacket and a white haired male wearing a trench coat who had black bird, possibly a crow on his shoulder.
"THERE YOU ARE YOU CRIMINALS!" Yelled Kamui Woods as he was stretching his wood arms attempting to catch them both off guard while Death Arms and Mt. Lady rushed in.
Present
As both Michiru and Shirou attempt to run the other way of the alley, Death Arms and Mt. Lady were running behind them.
The girl suddenly tripped forward as she looked behind her seeing she was caught by one of Kamui Woods's branches and began to panic, Trying to claw her way out of the branches as the heroes came closer.
"Ogami!" Yelled Michiru which was making him turn, his eyes suddenly widened and began running back to help his trapped friend seeing the branches wrap around her.
He traced his eyes toward the source of the branches seeing a man in a purple and brown costume or armor on one of the roofs.
"Kuro distract him." Said Shirou as he was pointing the bird to the Pro-Hero on the roof.
His bird flew up, cawing and attacking Kamui Woods, catching him off guard, giving Shirou only moments to free his friend from the branches.
He was successful pulling her out of the branches and the two friends continued running as his bird flew back down following its master, knowing its task was complete.
"YOU'RE NOT GETTING AWAY WITH WHAT YOU DID!" Yelled Death Arms, throwing a dumpster to stop them at their tracks nearly hitting Michiru but was pulled out of the way just in time by Shirou.
"GET BEHIND ME!" Yelled Shirou to Michiru as he turned into his Beastman form.
He wasn't trying to run this time and was ready to protect the girl and take on whatever Pro-Heroes could throw at him.
Mt. Lady began to slowly grow massive but not larger than the alleyway, knowing if she grew any larger she would destroy the buildings beside her.
She attempted to grab the suspects with her hands but was almost blinded by Kuro and almost falling backwards forcing her back to normal size to keep her from crushing the other Pros.
God this bird won't give up. Thought Mt. Lady in annoyance as she climbed back to her feet.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!" Yelled Death Arms as he began throwing multiple punches at the wolf but only hitting the air as Shirou dodged them with ease then suddenly vanishing.
Then feeling a spike of pain on the right side of his face, Death Arms just realized he was punched only moments later and was thrown to the wall.
This guy's quirk is insane, not just in strength but how the hell did he move so quick? Thought Death Arms as he tried to get out of the rubble.
"LACQUERED CHAIN PRISON!" Yelled Kamui Woods as he used his arms creating multiple branches, manipulating them towards the suspects in an attempt to catch them.
Shirou dodged the branches swiftly jumping across the walls as Michiru's arms suddenly stretched grabbing onto the upper walls as she attempted to climb up avoiding the branches as Kuro followed behind her.
"CRAAAAAP!" Yelled Michiru as she was realizing she was falling after noticing she lost grip of the walls as they began to crumble.
She was caught mid fall by Shirou and quickly carried further back from the Pros until she managed to stand staring at the injured Hero that was in the wall.
"PLEASE STOP WE DON'T WANT TO FIGHT!" Yelled Michiru, getting in front of her friend leaving the Pro-Heroes shocked and confused.
"Then why are you running then?" Asked Kamui Woods while landing behind the two suspects as Mt. Lady attempts to remove Death Arms from the rubble.
"Do you not realize you called us criminals and you were charging at us, we panicked, so much has happened so fast!" Yelled Michiru.
"We didn't know what to do, what kind of people start fighting someone that could even be innocent!" Yelled Michiru as she began crying but stood her ground showing how scared she was of what could've happened making the Pro-Heroes realize the mistake they made.
She's just a kid, what the hell were we thinking? Asked Kamui Woods in his head while he checked his surroundings, his eyes widened to Mt. Lady and Death Arms, noticing a large amount of rubble began falling further up from one of the buildings.
"LOOK OUT!" Yelled Michiru as she was suddenly rushing to the other two heroes before Shirou could stop her.
Her tail suddenly enlarged over their heads taking the heroes by surprise stopping the rubble from crushing them.
"Michiru!" Yelled Shirou as both Kamui Woods and the wolf rushed to where Michiru was seeing the tail slowly shrink back to normal size.
Both Michiru and the other Pro-Heroes were unscathed but were surprised after seeing the girl risk her life and save them.
"Are you okay?" Asked Shirou as he suddenly changed back into his human form pulling Michiru up to her feet as their bird landed on the Shirou's shoulder.
"I'm fine I was so worried about her getting killed." Replied Michiru.
They don't even look like criminals but something's off, what is it? Asked Kamui Woods in his head as he was troubled about these two people, the fact that they appeared out of the blue.
How they acted wasn't anything a criminal would do, helping a hero and not wanting to fight?
"I'm sorry we thought you were the criminals, we only assumed but we really appreciate you helping us kid" Said Death Arms as congratulated the girl for her courage to protect them from the falling rubble.
"It's not over I'm afraid, both of you were at the scene of a crime, and used your quirks without a license, I don't want to do it but we have to take you in for questioning, it's the law." Said Kamui Woods which was leaving the two confused with Mt. Lady glaring at him.
"We don't want any trouble, we'll comply with the authorities." Said Shirou and Michiru nodding in agreement.
"Come on she's just a kid Woods, sure I understand her friend but come on, if you don't mind me asking what are your Quirks by the way, I've never seen anything like that?" Asked Mt. Lady as she was looking over to Michiru and Shirou, both with confused expressions on their face, even Kuro understood what they meant and turned his head at an angle, cawing in confusion .
"What's a Quirk?" Asked Shirou, leaving the heroes stunned at how they don't know that question.
"Your kidding right?" Asked Death Arms.
"Everyone knows what a Quirk is." Said Death Arms
"Lets just say we're not from around here exactly." Said Michiru.
"I see, well if you don't mind me asking, what are your names?" Asked Kamui Woods.
"My name is Michiru Kagemori, this is my friend Shirou Ogami and this is Kuro." Said Michiru as Kuro cawed leaving the group there in silence until the police arrived at the damaged alleyway, taking them all to the station.
"Somethings different about those two." Said Kamui Woods as he watched the two people be escorted into the police cars shortly after they arrived.
"What do you mean?" Asked Death Arms.
"Their Quirks seemed strange, they looked like they had Transformation Quirks but they had more abilities than I've ever seen." Replied Kamui Woods.
"You saw how that wolf reacted, that kind of speed, I've only seen All Might go that fast." Said Kamui Woods as he began to ponder while crossing his arms together in doubt of the Wolf being just as powerful as The Symbol of Peace himself.
"What about the kid, she's got a good heart you saw how she threw herself to save me." Said Mt. Lady as she pointed out
"I agree with you, though even she had multiple abilities, stretching arms, and a growing tail?" Asked Death Arms.
"It gets me wondering if they have Multiple Quirks." Said Death Arms as he began to worry that what the girl said was even true back at the alley.
"But what about when we asked them about their quirks?" Asked Mt. Lady.
"They were clueless, you can even tell they weren't lying." Said Mt. Ladyas she tried defending them the best they could knowing something was different about them as if they weren't from here.
"We'll found out soon Takeyama, if they were willing to turn themselves in, then I'm sure they will comply with questioning." Said Kamui Woods , hoping they can get their answers to their questions soon.
"Whatever you say Woods." Said Mt. Lady.
As Michiru and Shirou waited in a police car with Kuro laying on Michiru's lap as they were driven to the station, both of them looked out the windows seeing countless people in a city that they should recognize but something felt different, some people didn't even look human or had parts of their body looked transformed while others looked normal but still lived as if there was nothing to be scared of.
Something was off, the both of them knew it, but their questions couldn't be answered yet.
Michiru moved slightly closer to Shirou and spoke quietly to him without causing suspicion to the officer that's driving.
"Where are we?" Asked Michiru as she was hoping for a reassuring answer, but Shirou was just as lost as she was.
Some kind of heroes with powers called "Quirks" that we're far beyond what he's seen in Beastman and practically the same as the citizens, but they all got along, it was nothing like how humans treated Beastman.
Shirou couldn't even answer the girls own question for he was even clueless on how they got here in the first place.
"I don't know but what do know this isn't Anima City, or anything I've seen in Japan before." Said Shirou as he dosen't rember seeing any part of Japan like this in his long life.
