The Morning After
Cana wakes up the morning after getting drunk with Loke being affectionate all of a sudden.
Loke hears a door swing open, footsteps getting nearer, and the scraping of a chair against the floor. He smiles to himself as the person behind him groans. Taking the pan off the stove, he transfers the omelette onto a plate. He whirls around and his smile widens at the sight of a brunette sitting at the counter, head resting on her hand as she massages her temple. She looked like she had just woken up.
"Good morning, how was your sleep?" He asks, pouring a cup of coffee on a mug and placing it beside the plate. Cana mutters a small thanks.
"I've got a pounding headache, if it isn't obvious yet." She replies. She picks up the mug, taking a small sip of her coffee before she starts scarfing down her meal. He ignores her grumpiness and watches her enjoy her meal.
"I've called Lucy and told her you weren't gonna make it back home last night." He informs her, making sure that Cana knows her friend and roommate knows where she is right now.
"Thanks, Loke. I must've drank too much that you had to bring me to your apartment, huh?" She gives him an apologetic smile, her omelette already halfway done.
'It's nothing, if you want me to come pick you up whenever you're drunk, I will. Anything for you, my love." He says affectionately, leaning from the other side of the counter to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear and kiss the top of her head.
Cana pulls away, laughing. She pushes him back in the process as she shoots him an incredulous look. "The fuck, dude, why are you treating me like one of your girls? You're grossing me out."
He freezes at this, confused. A frown pulls at his lips as he tries to process what she just said. "Cana, you can't possibly be that wasted last night."
Still laughing, she shrugs. "I mean, you had to pick me up and let me stay at your place. That kinda tells you how drunk I was." She wipes a tear from the corner of her eye. "Why? Did I agree to be one of your fuck buddies?" Another round of laughter until she pauses, smile disappearing from her face when she realises he isn't laughing with her. "Oh shit, did I really? 'Cause if I did then I would take it back."
Loke doesn't say a word as he stares at her, the disappointment in his chest expanding. He has known Cana for so long now, he knows that she rarely forgets even if she was dead drunk so he assumed that he remembered the talk they had last night while he was tucking her in for sleep. He didn't expect that it would be one of those rare occurrences that she won't remember anything from when she was drunk.
"Loke?"
He snaps out of his thoughts and sees that Cana is already raising an eyebrow at him. He puts on a smile, masking his hurt and dismay. It isn't her fault that she forgot and he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up that easily. There was no point being upset with her. "Don't worry, you didn't. It was just some joke we had last night and I didn't think you would forget about it."
The brunette blinks and then sighs in relief. "Oh, you scared me there for a second." Her smile returns to her face, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. "What's the context of the joke, though? You really gave me goosebumps earlier."
His mind starts whirring as he tries to come up with a lie. "Well… I hooked up with this girl last night, she kept calling me 'my love' in front of others and just being plain clingy. What can I say, ladies just fall for my gentlemanly charms." He jokes, wagging her eyebrows at her. At the back of his mind, he wants to be the one drinking so much that he forgets about this morning. Maybe even forget about last night if it's possible.
She snorts at this, hand reaching out for her cup of coffee. "That better not be true because that's a shitty thing to do to your girlfriend."
He blinks. "What—"
"I mean, who hooks up with a girl before confessing to someone that you've fallen for them? What an asshole."
"Cana, wait, what—"
"That's right, you idiot. I remember." A playful smirk appears on her lips. "I was just messing with you for calling me by that cheesy nickname."
And just like that, she grabs him by his collar and their lips meet. He can feel how soft her lips are against his and he can taste the coffee she's been drinking. He could feel his thoughts swirling with too many thoughts and his chest felt like it was about to burst by the mixture of emotions. He's annoyed that she had to play with his feelings like that and that he fell for it anyway. He really looked like an idiot earlier. Despite all this, he smiles within the kiss. Knowing she remembered was enough to make him forget those negative feelings. It was nice knowing all that effort to gather his courage and tell her how he felt didn't go to waste.
The kiss deepens and all thoughts in his mind vanishes.
When they pull apart, both are out of breath and flushed. Cana's still smirking, looking satisfied at herself. "Kinda nice having a boyfriend to make me breakfast, eh?"
He rolls his eyes but a smile forms on his lips. "Treat me like a cook all you want, you did tell me you love me. Let's see if I remember the exact words…"
A blush forms on Cana's cheeks as she remembers her words from last night, too affectionate and raw, exposing her vulnerabilities. It was so unlike anything she would've said if she was sober. She covers her ears with her hands. "Loke, stop! I don't wanna hear it!"
He laughs at this, taking her empty plate and mug to put in the sink. Well, at least now he knows how to get back at his girlfriend whenever she tries to mess with him.
A/N: Decided to put all the stuff I write about this ship in one place 'cause I'm not sure how many I'll write. This was written out of the blue, may need to edit it someday :D
