Hey guys,
first of all, I want to thank you all for the positive reviews to this story. I'm so glad you like it so far, I hope you're also going to like the rest of this story.
Anyway, here's the next chapter. I'm sorry for the wait but I had to take care of some things this week, and I wanted to give you a longer chapter than the previous one. Also I just keep getting ideas for the very future chapters for some reason? 😂
Enjoy!
Jane noticed them of course and the adults locked eyes and thought the same thing.
Uh oh
They both stopped in front of Jane and looked up at him, while Lisbon looked like a deer in headlights, Charlotte looked very excited to finally introduce them.
"Miss Lisbon, this is my daddy, daddy this is Miss Lisbon!"
They both managed a quiet and awkward "Hi" before Charlotte interrupted them again. "I'm going to change my clothes while you talk, daddy."
"Okay honey, I'll wait for you here," and then they were left alone.
"So…" they both started at the same time and let out an awkward laugh.
"Ladies first."
"Well, I just wanted to say that my name is Teresa Lisbon, but you can call me Lisbon or Miss Lisbon, it's a long story but I prefer when people call me by my last name."
"Oh, of course Lisbon. My name is actually Patrick Jane and not Daddy but you can also call me Jane or just Daddy," Jane tried to joke but realized how that sounded like and now he looked like a deer in highlights. Lisbon also realized the double meaning and blushed a little while looking down.
"I...I didn't mean it like that! I meant it as a joke you know cause my daughter calls me daddy and she introduces me to everyone as daddy so I just meant it as-"
"No, no, it's okay, I understand," Lisbon came out of the shock and actually laughed a little, it was an honest laugh this time and decided to have some fun with him.
"I bet you tell this to all the ladies," she teased and smirked as he got flushed.
"That's not true I-" but she cut him off with her laughing. "I was joking! You should've seen your face!" She said while still laughing.
"Oh, ha ha," he rolled his eyes but also chuckled a little.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry I'm done now."
"No it's okay, glad to see someone having fun at your misery."
"Oh come on, it wasn't that bad. Besides, it's not my fault that you say things with double meanings" she teased back and chuckled again.
"Anyway," Jane said, trying to change the topic.
"...as I was saying, you can call me Jane, my colleagues also call me that because I'm a-"
"An agent, yes I know."
At his questionable look she added. "Grace told me, as she signed in Charlotte the first day, it's not like I'm stalking you or anything!"
When he still didn't say anything, just looked at her she hurryingly added. "Oh was she not supposed to tell me? Well I have to know the address, phone number and the parent's occupation in case of emergency, but don't worry no one else can see those information so please don't be angry at her, it wasn't her fau-"
"Hey, hey, no it's okay, neither of you did anything wrong, I just realized that I didn't even sign up my daughter for her practice, I just sent my colleague to do it because I was too busy to take care of my girl. God I'm such a bad father!"
"Hey, no! You're not a bad father, you're just super busy it's okay!"
"It's not okay! I never picked up my daughter from her practice or school and sent my colleagues instead because my job is more important to me!"
"Jane that's not true! Yes you're busy but not because your job is more important, but because your daughter is the most important thing for you so you have to be busy and work to be able to make sure she gets everything she needs and that she's always happy! And she knows that."
"How do you know?"
"Because she talks about you all the time," Lisbon replied with a softer tone and a small smile.
"Really?"
"Yes really, she always talks about how her daddy works very hard and saves the world every day because he catches bad guys and helps people and how he always makes sure he's home on weekends to spend time with her and how she loves to hang out with daddy's work friends every day because they teach her cool stuff but how she loves to relax and watch TV in the evening with the daddy the most."
Jane literally had tears in his eyes by the time she finished talking. "She really said all of that?"
"She really did and she's talking about you every day, about all the things you do on weekends or the yummy food you cooked last night or the cool movie you watched together. She loves you, Jane and she thinks you're the best person in the world, trust me.
"Thank you, Lisbon."
"Of course, anytime," she smiled and he smiled back.
"Oh, and um, I just wanted to apologize about earlier, about what I said about the wife thing, I didn't realize it was you and I just-"
"Hey it's okay, no problem. Besides, you just found a stranger in the locker room when you came out of the shower, I'm surprised you didn't punch me or something."
"Oh believe me, I was close to jumping on you," she joked but quickly realized that this time, she was the one with the double meaning sentences.
Jane, of course, didn't miss a beat. "Oh really. I have to make sure to surprise you in the lockers room more often then," he teased and winked.
Woah, is he actually flirting with me? Would that be so bad? Shut up Lisbon, you literally just met the guy and you were ready to kill him not long ago. Besides, you're his daughter's coach, it wouldn't work out. She was fighting with her inner self when she realized that she was just wordlessly standing next to him and looking in the distance like an idiot. But before she could say anything, a smaller voice interrupted.
"I'm all ready daddy, can we go get the ice cream now? Pretty pleaseeee?" Charlotte looked up at Jane with her best puppy eyes and a pout and the adults laughed.
"Of course honey, but then we have to eat actual food later."
"Oh! Could you make that yummy pasta with the meat and that red thing with the green thing you made last week?!"
"You mean the dried tomatoes and the pesto?" Jane asked in amusement.
"YES! It was so yummy, you make the best pasta in the world!" Charlotte said and Lisbon looked at him with a 'I told you so' expression and he felt warmth in his chest.
"Thank you sweetheart, yes I can make the pasta today but we have to go shopping, so we better go if you want the ice cream first. Now say bye to Miss Lisbon and let's go."
To his surprise, Charlotte went up to Lisbon and hugged her, she didn't look surprised so that must be an usual thing then. That made him happy for some reason.
"Goodbye Miss Lisbon!"
"Bye sweetie!"
"See you later, Miss Lisbon," Jane joked as they made their way out.
"Bye Daddy" she teased back and Jane almost slipped on the ice. He quickly turned to look at her and she had an evil glint in her eyes before she turned around and went to talk to other parents. Jane turned back around and shaked his head with a chuckle before finally leaving the stadium.
