Tokoyami was standing on a balcony, listening to the nighttime breeze. He always loved being in the dark. There was something calming about it. Also, it allowed Darkshadow, his pet-stand-persona-quirk, to recharge his power, kinda like a reverse solar panel. Tokoyami couldn't stop thinking about Tsuyu. Why am I feeling this way about her? He thought to himself. If there's less of her now, why do I like her even more? It doesn't make any sense! Is something wrong with me? Tokoyami's bird head was flooded with a million different thoughts. This was normal for him. Being out in the dark alone gave him a lot of time to think about stuff. Well, I'd better get back to my room. I have to get some sleep. I think we might have a test tomorrow? Tokoyami turned around and went inside.
While walking to his room, he saw Tsuyu sitting on the couch. Well, actually, without a butt to sit with, she was just kind of lying there on her back. All she was wearing was an oversized t-shirt with a huge knot tied at the end. She was reading a book quietly and her hair was undone and a bit messy. It looked like she just showered. Tokoyami walked over to talk with her.
"Hey, Tsu."
"Oh, hey Tokoyami. I didn't see you there."
"What are you doing up this late?"
"Oh, my phantom pains are keeping me up. It makes it so hard to sleep."
"Phantom pains? What's that?"
"It's basically when your body keeps feeling things from a recently amputated body part. Doctor said it should fade in a couple months, hopefully. He also said my phantom pains would probably get really bad because my amputation is so extreme."
"Oh man."
"Yeah, but don't worry, I'll be fine. I've had worse. I can handle it. It's fine"
"Are you sure? You don't look too fine"
At this point, Tsuyu looked as she was about to cry. She set her book aside and wiped a tear from her eye.
"W-well it's just that i've been thinking. A lot. It's gonna be a little tough, living like this."
"Uh huh…"
"I've got a lot to balance. I have to change my bags like three times a day, I have to watch what I eat and how much, I can't go on most roller coasters, I can't sit on my stump without a pad, I can't walk or run normally, I can't have sex or have kids, I-I-"
Tears started to stream from Tsuyu's large eyes. They fell from her cheeks and dropped onto her shirt. Tokoyami was listening with a concerned look on his face. He held Tsuyu by her armpits and moved her on the couch to face him. He moved closer.
"I'll never become a hero. It doesn't matter what I do, they'll never accept me. I mean, if you were told that someone like me was protecting your life, you'd probably flee to Okinawa or something."
"Tsuyu, I'd never-"
"And the worst part is, I'll never be able to have a relationship. Who would fall in love with someone like me? I've got no legs, I've got no private parts, my torso is cut in half, and I'm gonna be left alone changing my bags for the rest of my life! I-I've got nothing!"
"You have me."
Tokoyami picked Tsuyu up and held her like a baby. She was pretty light, about the weight of a medium sized dog. He wiped a tear from her eye.
"I'm right here for you, Tsu. I'm not gonna leave you, I promise."
Tsuyu sniffled lightly. Her shirt was covered with wet spots, like she had (hand)walked through some light rain.
"You really mean that?"
"Yeah. You'll always have me."
"Oh, don't tell me you actually love me like this."
"Well, actually, I do."
Tsuyu was a bit shocked. Tokoyami actually likes me even without legs? How? Why? Does he have a fetish or something?
"I've always had feelings for you. Before and after your accident. I don't care about your injury. It doesn't bother me at all."
Oh my god, he really does have an amputee fetish. Tsuyu thought to herself. Although, she did feel kinda safe in Tokoyami's arms.
"T-thanks, I guess. It was really nice to talk with you during my recovery. No one really understands how hard it is for me, trying to regain my old life. Everyone always acts nice to me, but I feel like you're the only one who really likes me for me."
"D-don't mention it."
Through her tears, Tsuyu put a huge smile on her face. It was the first genuine smile she had in months. Tokoyami wasn't much of a smiler himself, but he made his best attempt to smile back. Tsuyu grabbed her book off the couch with her tongue.
"Could you, um, carry me to my room please? It's getting late."
Tokoyami walked towards Tsuyu's room. She felt nice in his hands. Tsuyu breathed out a little through her nose and slowly fell asleep in Tokoyami's arms.
Oh man, I hope this becomes a new thing. Tokoyami thought to himself.
