The sound of a light buzz rang in Jessica's ears. Her eyes fluttered open and her vision was blurry, not to mention the bright light blinding her and forcing her to shut them again. A soft groan escaped her as she was coming around and her head rolled gently. As she blinked, her vision became clearer until her eyes were fully open and she was awake.
There was a pounding in her head, the sides of her skull feeling like they were being crushed in a vice, not to mention the sharp pain in the side of her neck. As she came around, she rested her head back on what felt like a soft pillow and her eyes roamed the room.
What the fuck happened?
Her dull dark green eyes wandered around the bright room. Bright lights covered the ceiling which was stainless steel and, reflections shining back. There was a tall door in front of her, painted a light grey colour and a stainless steel handle occupying it.
Her head turned to her left to see a desk with a set of computers on top. A light beeping sound occupied the room as well and to Jessica's right there was a monitor with what looked like her heartbeat being recorded. A stainless steel table with various equipment laid next to it. There were drawers and cupboards around the room, glossy white and clean. The whole room was a bright white colour, sterile and clean and there was an odd smell to the room; disinfectant.
Jessica's body felt heavy, as if it was being weighed down by something and her eyes drifted down. She was lying on a hospital bed, soft sheets underneath her and the pillow behind her head. Her upper body was sat upright with her legs out flat on the bed. Her eyes immediately caught the glint of the metal restraints accompanying her wrists and ankles and her reflexes went straight to using her super strength to break them. She tugged hard on the metal chains that held the cuffs to the bed but they didn't even flinch. She tried again but no prevail.
Jessica turned to something she never usually felt; panic. She noticed there were pads stuck to the insides of her elbows, wires leading to the monitors around her and above her was a light attacked to the back of the bed. It was then she noticed the white hospital gown covering her body, the light blue trim along the edges and the small label on the front; 526.
No, please no.
Jessica's head turned slowly, fear in her eyes and her chest tightening. Inside she was hoping, begging that it wasn't true. As her head was turned, the tears that had welled up behind her eyes started to pour, her lips quivering. The memories came flooding back, the memories that haunted her and kept her awake countless of nights.
On the right side of the room was a wall and on that wall was a window screen. Behind that screen was the small room she remembered, the one where she was constantly being watched or as they liked to put it 'observed'. She thought she had gotten away from here, away from this room that she hoped to never see again. The room where she gained her powers. The building were other children were experimented on like her to gain powers that they didn't want.
How?
Her heart was beating fast in her chest, pounding against it and the beeping from the heart monitor started to speed up, the lines growing higher on the screen. Her veins tensed up and her hands once again pulled at the restraints but they were stronger than her. Stronger than her super strength.
Jessica rarely felt like this; scared. She never let her fears come over her, never let anyone see any weakness, never let anything get to her. But this and her memories of being with Kilgrave and inside this room were the one thing that made her frightened. The room was slightly different to when she was a young girl. She remembered her being sat at a table, wires and needles poking her arms and chest as she was forced the solution inside her that gave her the power of super strength. She remembered the tasks forced upon her to test out the solution. She remembered the screams of the other children next to her room, being experimented and tortured on, just like her.
The hospital gown she was wearing now was the same one she wore when she was a child here, the same label stitched on the front, the number that was assigned to her while being experimented on. All the children had a number even though they were addressed by their names. It must have been for the records.
She hoped that she would never have to see this room again, to never go through what she had been through. She could have sworn that this place had been abandoned and not used for years, not since the children were released. She remembered seeing on the news that the building had been ransacked by teens after it was abandoned. The scientists had managed to escape and evaded the police. The only person that even knew about this was… Kilgrave. The pain in her neck brought back the memory. Kilgrave had drugged her, probably with Sufentanil. His words ringed in the back of her mind, that evil British accent reliving her PTSD.
I'm going to kill him
The sound of locks unlocking forced Jessica's head up and she quickly sniffed the tears away, hoping that she didn't look like she was crying. She didn't want to show weakness, especially to Kilgrave.
As she thought, her captor opened the door, a big wide grin on his face as he strolled into the room, pushing the door behind him lazily and the door shutting with a click. Kilgrave stood there, standing tall and dressed in a dark black suit with a purple tie and black shirt. His eyes never left Jessica, relishing in the moment that his Jessica was there. His beautiful Jessica, the one he loved so much.
"Jessica" she immediately cringed at her name being spoken from him. Her dark eyes glared at him, fingers clenched tightly as if she was going to throw a punch but the restraints held her back. She didn't speak, only stared with fury and Kilgrave softened.
"Oh come on, don't look at me like that, what was I suppose to do, ask you nicely to come with me" his shoes clicked on the polished floor as he waltzed over to her, standing beside her.
"You can't tell me how I can look at you" she gritted and Kilgrave smiled.
"Yes you are right I can't, but in time we will fix that" he smirked.
"Why did you bring me here?" Jessica immediately asked, not wanting to waste time with the foreplay they usually embarked with.
"You remember, I was hoping you would, it didn't take me long to find it and I had to make sure it was the right room of course, if you and I are going to be together everything has to be perfect" Kilgrave scanned the room as he spoke. Not only was he a control freak but an OCD one at it. He admired perfection and would stop at nothing to get it right. When he brought her childhood home he made sure everything was the same and of course bringing Jessica back to the lab were she was experimented on, he couldn't just throw her in any room, no it had to be her room. The room she spent a year in, isolated and used as a guinea pig for science.
"You think bringing me back to the place I hate the most is going to make me love you" she sneered and Kilgrave chuckled softly, shaking his head. He softly rested on the side of the bed, Jessica's hand flinching as he brushed her and pulling at the cuffs.
"Well, your half right there, you see you and I both know that I cannot control you, ever since you killed Reva-".
"YOU killed Reva" Jessica yelled and Kilgrave halted.
"I only said to take care of her, you decided to punch her" he spoke softly, and Jessica lunged forward, hoping to grab him by his collar but the restraints held her back. Kilgrave's eyes flickered down to her strained hands and back to Jessica.
"What the fuck is this?" Jessica referred to the restraints on her hands and ankles.
"It's just a precaution, to keep you safe" he said gently.
"You mean to keep you safe" Jessica wasn't stupid, this was for his protection. With his inability to control her, she had the power, especially with her super strength.
"Well, I know the damage you can do, you did a number on me before" Kilgrave pressed a finger tip to the back of Jessica's hand and she pulled away, hoping to get as far away from him as possible but it was difficult with her current situation.
"I had to find something that you wouldn't be able to break, luckily I had someone I knew who was able to make these" KIlgrave glanced down at the restraints. There was no chance in hell that Jessica would behave.
"As I was saying, when you- I mean we killed Reva and then you left me for dead, I could no longer control you, I've missed you and I know I said I wanted to watch you die and all that but I didn't mean that, I was just angry and upset because you weren't listening to me" Jessica scoffed, turning her head away and her eyes met the screen. She immediately looked the other way, her eyes down as Kilgrave continued.
"I have spent a great deal of time making my power stronger and yet I still can't control you, you know I don't really care about anyone else, all I want is you, we've already tried it the other way and it hasn't worked so it got me thinking maybe it's not me but you" Jessica's eyes flicked back up to meet Kilgrave's, the scowl on her face.
Where is he going with this?
"What are you talking about?" She murmured and Kilgrave grinned and clapped his hands together. The door opened and a man in a long white coat entered inside, black glasses on his face and dark brown hair. He carried a clipboard in his hand and walked to the desk and computer.
"This is Dr… what's your name again?" Kilgrave commanded.
"Dr Louis" the doctor answered robotically, filling the command.
"Dr Louis, he's a friend, well not really he's working for me now" Kilgrave rambled on, throwing his hands about as the doctor stood next to them, fiddling with the monitor and writing on the clipboard.
"I have so much power and the only person it doesn't have an effect on… is you, which got me thinking that it must be something to do you with".
"That's what Dr Louis is here for, he's going to find out why and then turn it around" Kilgrave gave another evil grin, his plan setting in to place.
"You brought me here because you are a sick freak and any chance at tormenting me you'll take" Jessica barked back and Kilgrave tilted his head to the side.
"No, I brought you here because I needed somewhere the doctor can do his work, come on Jessica, I love you why would I deliberately want to torture you" Kilgrave lifted his hand to brush a strand of black hair out of her face that had fallen and Jessica flinched, turning her head away from his touch.
"If you loved me you'd let me go" she murmured.
"You know I can't do that" Kilgrave smiled softly.
Jessica wasn't wrong in that Kilgrave wanted to bring her here. He had found the place himself, scowered it and then found Dr Louis forcing him to participate with his plan. Of course Kilgrave didn't see his motive as sick for bringing his Jessica back to the place that haunted her the most. His love and desire for her powers only made him want to bring her here more, bring her back to the place where she got them. It was one of the things he admired about her, the first thing that attracted him to her.
"So you're going to experiment on me" Jessica could feel the tears behind her eyes but didn't dare let them fall.
"Well, I wouldn't say experiment… test is more what I was thinking of" Jessica glared up at Kilgrave.
"How could you do this, you know exactly what it's like to be used… Kevin" she spat and Kilgrave's face hardened at her choice of names for him. He hated that name, wanted to banished. Luckily the two people who had given him that name where now gone from his life like he wanted.
"I'm not here to hurt you Jessica, I love you so much, I just want things to go back to the way they were, come on admit that you had some good times when we were together" Jessica laughed, shaking her head.
"You really are delusional" she whispered.
"I'm just trying to get my Jessie back".
"DON'T CALL ME THAT" she yanked at the cuffs again, Kilgrave not even flinching and he sighed.
"Look, I know this is going to be hard for you, I'm hoping that Dr Louis will work quickly and that he'll find the problem and we can find a way to overcome it" Kilgrave gently ran his hand over Jessica's arm, his fingertips brushing her pale skin. She was cold and sensitive.
"And then, when this is all over you and I can go back to they way things were before, before all this fighting and ugly displays… before Reva" Kilgrave smirked.
"I'll die before I let you control me again" Jessica sneered.
"Not on my watch" Kilgrave leaned over, his lips next to Jessica's ear and he whispered softly.
"Soon I'll see that smile of yours".
