The Junkshard, technical details

AN: This chapter is optional for people who are interested in the mechanics of Lauren's power. You can skip this chapter if you want to figure it out from Lauren's POV.


Lauren can have 3 temporary powers online at the same time.

The powers are randomly generated via the following way:

Power Type: This determines the type of power Lauren gets. It is determined by a d12 with the worm power classifications as the 12 options: Mover, Shaker, Brute, Breaker, Master, Tinker, Blaster, Thinker, Striker, Changer, Trump, Stranger. Note that if trump or breaker is rolled, a secondary power will be rolled to go with that power, as a singular trump or breaker power is very hard to describe. If double trump or double breaker is thrown, Lauren will either gain 2 different Trump/Breaker powers, or a single one with 2 different secondary classifications.

Threat Level: This determines the treat level with which the PRT would classify the individual power. It is determined by d6 -2. A treat level of -1 means that the power will actively hinder Lauren in combat. Note that the threat level is not the same as the usefulness of the power. Lauren's first power, for example, would allow her to make loads of money by diagnosing patients or doing medical checks, saving loads of lives at the same time.

Duration: This determines the duration of the power Lauren gets. It is determined by a d20. The time ranges from 20 seconds (2) to 10 hours (19). In case of a 1, the power leaves almost instantly, and in case of a 20, the power becomes permanent. Permanent powers do not take up one of the 3 slots.

Synchronization: This determines how well Lauren is connected with the shard bestowing the power. It is determined by a d100. A low roll means that Lauren only has a vague feeling of what the power does. A high roll means that Lauren immediately understands exactly what the power does. If the Synchronization is 100%, the power becomes permanent no matter what the duration is. Synchronization of Lauren's powers increases very slowly over time, or increases temporarily during high stress situations.

Note on tinker abilities: If the duration of the tinker power is short, Lauren will enter a tinker fugue and will not stop until she has finished at least one tinkertech item, the tinker fugue will also vanish if there are no materials nearby to tinker with. If the duration of the power is 24 minutes (11/20) or longer, Lauren will remember the blueprints of all the tinkertech she has created when the power was active. She will however only be able to create new designs within that speciality if the power is permanent or still active.
