Machi had taken Hisoka back to her apartment, which was studio style. Her bed had been shoved into the far-right corner of the room along with a book shelf and side table. The center of the room had a love seat and a recliner surrounding a rectangular coffee table and the kitchen was built into the far left of the apartment. It had the basics, a stove, fridge, microwave and sink. The counter top was limited and everything seemed so small, but Machi was single and rarely lived here. The walls and shelves were bare, and the light coming in from the large window on the left wall showed how much dust had collected on every surface.
"Shall I order us some dinner?" Hisoka asked politely, but with a mischievous smile on his face.
"I'm not hungry and besides you won't be here that long." Machi stated, setting down the bag of things the doctor had given her on her bed.
"Oh?"
"I just have some questions to ask you. I expect you to answer them straight and honestly. I haven't completely chosen to keep the baby, I still have time to terminate."
"So, my answers determine whether you have it? Interesting." Hisoka hummed.
"Not exactly. I know I could handle being a single parent, the issue is if I'm willing to deal with you or if I'll have to. Considering you were there when I came down, I guess you do want to be a part of all this."
"I do." Hisoka smiled, taking a seat on the small couch.
"Why?" Machi asked, coming to step in front of him and the coffee table, hands on her hips.
Hisoka sighed, grinning, "I know I come off as an uncaring, sadistic, and perverted man, and I am every single one of those things. However, you should know more than anyone how dedicated I am when I want something."
"What exactly do you want from this child?" Machi frowned.
"I want it to have a better life than I had." Hisoka smiled so big his eyes squeezed closed.
"Seriously?" Machi scoffed.
Hisoka hummed, "You know I don't talk about my past, but one thing I'm sure you've deducted is that I didn't have a normal upbringing."
"Yeah, I can tell."
"So, without getting too into it, I want to make sure my child doesn't have something similar. Granted, it is already better off with you as a mother."
Machi felt the blush creeping up her face and quickly walked over to the kitchen, pouring herself some water.
"So, you want to be involved."
"Yes."
"You're not very reliable." Machi mumbled.
"Whatever do you mean?" Hisoka chuckled.
"You rarely show up to the spider meetings, you don't follow the rules given by anyone, and you're selfish." Machi stated firmly, her anger getting the better of her.
Hisoka smirked at her loss of control, watching her from the corner of his eye, "You have a point, but that is because I don't care for those things most of the time. It gets boring to live the way someone else wants you to."
"What if this child starts to bore you?" Machi asked calmly.
"It won't. I get excited just thinking about watching it grow every day, seeing what characteristics they inherit from each of us, teaching them to use Nen. It'll be so much fun." Hisoka's smile grew as he talked.
"You'll need to be a good father. It's not just about entertaining you. It's a lot of work and I don't think you are up for it." Machi grumbled, "You can leave now."
She started to walk over to her bed, once again considering if she would want to be a single parent, but Hisoka was in front of her in an instant. Machi flickered her eyes up to look at him, challenging him to change her mind, as though he could. His eyes seemed so calm though, like he was sure he would get his way. That confidence was both his worst and best characteristic, it managed to get him in and out of trouble daily.
"Machi, there is no other woman I would rather have mother my child. I wouldn't have wasted my night and been as pleasant as I have been if I wasn't serious." Hisoka stated, moving a single finger out to rest on her belly.
"I don't know if I can trust you, Hisoka." Machi whispered, "I'd rather be a single mom than have you popping in and out of our kid's life. I don't want to have to worry about it. I need you to be all in or all out." She stated firmly.
"Well, if you need proof, how about we make a deal?" Hisoka asked huskily, "If you want this child either way, then give me the rest of the pregnancy to prove to you I am trustworthy. If I don't, I will solemnly swear to leave you and the child alone. How about it?" he grinned, raising his hand and extended his pinky finger.
Machi looked at it, and those previous questions ran through her mind again. She had settled on the idea that this may be her best chance of having a child at all, and that it would give her a chance to build a normal life, at least somewhat. She had always wondered what it would be like. But him. He wasn't part of the plan, and she couldn't decide if the benefits outweighed the risk. But he was offering a solution, a trial period of some sort, and it probably wouldn't be the worst thing to have some help around if she needed it.
Machi sighed, closing her eyes as she decided. She raised her pinky and wrapped it around Hisoka's, feeling him squeeze her finger back with a little more force than necessary. When she looked up at him, he was smiling so big, all his teeth were showing, and it didn't appear to be an evil or malicious smile. Just a smile.
They released each other's appendages and Machi stepped past him to grab some clothes from her drawer. Hisoka stood in place but listened carefully as she moved around. His mind was spinning with questions, how he would handle raising a child and caring for it, did he really have it in him? He had convinced Machi that he might, but even he didn't honestly know. What he did know is he could now spend an abundance of time with Machi. He grinned at the idea of slipping into her bed at night, fondling her. Maybe he could wear her down and get her to agree to joining him in the shower or on the counter.
His eyes scanned her room, thinking of all the places he could ravage her. He had not been allowed in her apartment ever, she had always come to him. She would bandage him up and then he would coax her into staying almost 50% of the time. She was stubborn, and rarely ever in the mood right away, he would have to use the limited time to seduce her. With this pregnancy, he would have more time and more opportunities, and he has heard that the hormones she will experience will make her far more lustful.
"I'm going to shower." Machi said, snapping Hisoka out of his fantasies, "You should leave. We can talk tomorrow."
"You haven't had any dinner yet." Hisoka stated as she walked towards her bathroom just across her bedroom, "You'll need to eat enough for two now." He joked.
"I'll eat once I'm done. Now go." She ordered, stepping into the bathroom and locking the door.
00000000000000000000000
Machi stood under the warm water spray for a few minutes, letting the warmth open her pores and make her feel clean. She was thinking about the day's events and how it had turned so opposite in just a few hours. She had simply planned to go to her appointment in the afternoon and rid herself of this bastard child. Hisoka would never have known and they could have continued their relationship, whatever it was, with more caution.
She didn't really think Hisoka would be a good father. He was too selfish and sociopathic, people like that never change. She tried to think of the times, though, where he seemed to care. For her, he always seemed to be interested in her emotional state, but usually only so he could capitalize on it. Today, he was serious, multiple times, and had made her believe for a split second that he could be a caring and nurturing person. She had let him get to her, and now she would be stuck with him for several months. She groaned and rested her head on the tile wall in front of her.
"Are you feeling alright in there?"
Machi tensed up, eyes widening, and she turned to look out her frosted glass shower doors. The glass distorted shapes, but she could see the white and pink colors of Hisoka's clothes. He was sitting up top of her sink, facing her.
"Hisoka, I told you to leave." She stated, keeping her cool tone.
"I'm simply concerned for you. You haven't eaten yet and hot temperatures can cause high blood pressure, pregnant women are already predisposed to irregular blood pressure, you know. I just don't want you fainting or anything." He explained simply.
"God dammit, Hisoka. Are you going to be so annoying this whole pregnancy? I'm not far enough along to have those concerns." Machi growled, "You just wanted to peak on me in the shower."
"Peak on you? I can't even see you clearly." Hisoka scoffed.
"Don't play dumb, you enjoy the anticipation more than anything."
Hisoka hummed in thought, "Not quite."
Suddenly the glass door was rolled open, exposing Machi to Hisoka. She covered her breasts with both hands and crossed her legs slightly, as though he didn't know what she looked like. Hisoka's eyes didn't even scan downward or linger on her. His face was next to her ear right away, his hair getting soaked in the process.
"I enjoy your reactions more than anything." He whispered before pulling out and closing the shower door again.
He immediately walked out of the bathroom, leaving Machi stunned and a bit turned on. She shook any sexual thoughts from her head and turned the water to a colder setting. She quickly washed her hair and dried off, wanting to make sure Hisoka was gone as soon as possible.
Unfortunately for Machi, Hisoka was sitting on her bed, reading a book from her shelves when she came out. She was glad she had taken clothes into the bathroom with her so she was fully dressed before coming out. She spared a single glance at Hisoka as she put her dirty clothes in the laundry basket, seeing he was reading The Count of Monte Cristo. She was going to tell him to leave again, but her doorbell rang throughout the apartment, interrupting her. She eyed Hisoka questioningly as he stood and walked out of her apartment to the main entrance door. When he returned, he had bags from a Chinese restaurant and began placing the contents out on the coffee table.
"What is this?" Machi asked, arms crossed.
"Dinner. I ordered you orange chicken since you've ordered it before."
"What if I'm not craving Chinese?"
"Well then you can save it for a time that you are and I'll order you something else." Hisoka shrugged with a smile, sitting on the love seat.
Machi rolled her eyes, grabbing the food and sitting in her recliner, "You didn't have to buy me food."
"I just wanted to make sure you ate. You'll have to eat more from now on."
"You know I only need to eat like 300 more calories than usual. It's not that much more."
Hisoka chuckled, "Well aren't you the expert."
Machi glared at him, "It was just something the doctor told me today."
"What else did you discuss today?"
"Well, I have my prenatal vitamins, my blood and urine work came back good, and they'll let me now about any genetic issues they may find."
"Wow, busy day."
"It was. Now I'd like to spend some time alone so I can destress." She stated firmly.
Her food was a quarter gone but she wanted to eat more alone and allow herself time to think before attempting to sleep. She was sure her mind would keep her up all night and give her crazy dreams, but it was worth trying to ease her nerves.
Hisoka looked annoyed at first, giving a lazy glare, but quickly switched it to a small smile with his eyes peacefully hooded.
"Alright then. Could I come over tomorrow then so we can discuss our plan of attack?" he asked, almost too politely.
Machi eyed he curiously, he was behaving too robotic and gentlemanly, not at all like the real Hisoka. She figured he was trying to give her a good impression, so that she would allow him to stick around once the baby was born, but she wasn't going to let him be fake and trick her. That battle of course would wait till tomorrow, right now, she needed rest.
"Yes. I'll see you then." She nodded.
Hisoka smiled wider before turning to leave her for the night. Machi sighed, a headache settling in, but also making her feel deflated. She had a lot to study up on and think about before Hisoka came over with some scheme.
Author's Note: Hey whoever might be reading this, I hope you are intrigued so far but I need some help. I have never been pregnant and while my research has inspired some points of this story, I want to show the not so fun moments of pregnancy and childbearing/raising. So, to any parents or old siblings or anyone with experiences with children, leave a comment and tell me a topic to add into the story. Thanks a lot!
