A few days had passed and Mikage had found herself back at the shore of her encounter. The whole exchange felt surreal to her. A merman couldn't have really attacked her right? Nor fallen in love with her after the fact and stole her first kiss? If this were a normal encounter she might have been angry about that one, but she had barely register it even happened, or if it even had happened in the first place. And even if he did exist, would she ever see him again? Did she even want to see him?
Too many questions, and none with answers.
She sighed as she walked out onto the deck and looked out into the water. It was a nice clear bright day, and there was no sign of life anywhere besides a few seagulls. That is until...
"Ah? Is that?" A distantance away she spotted something, but it was a bit too far to tell if it was the merman. She watched carefully. It was definitely a living being sitting on a small rocky island just off the shore and they were currently looking away from Mikage.
She was quite tempted to jump in the water and swim right over there, but she refrained. Not only did she not have any swim gear on at the moment, she didn't know how he'd react if that was him. Perhaps he'd change his mind once more and attack again? She also still wasn't sure if she even wanted to meet him. As of now she just wanted to confirm he was real.
As she watched the figure, it stretched before turning towards her, then, apparently realizing it'd been seen, jumped into the water with a flash of scales glittering in the sunlight. That was certainly her fish man. At least she knew she wasn't crazy.
Relief hit her as she stood there on the dock. That's all she wanted to do here. She could go home now and not worry about it anymore, right? No, that wasn't true, that wasn't all she was curious about. But what else could she do? As much as she'd like to know more about what happened, there was no way to find that out. Even if she were to jump into the water and chase him, she'd never catch him, he was way too fast.
But it looked like that wouldn't be necessary. She blinked in surprise as the merman's head appeared in the water, still a bit far off, but much closer than before.
She cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted out to him. "Hey! Come here! I want to talk!"
He had a perplexed then reluctant look on his face, though she could barely make it out at this distant.
"Please?"
He dived down.
Mikage sighed. "Guess not." Nothing she could do if he wasn't willing. But then his head reappeared, closer this time. Close enough she didn't have to shout. She could now see the bruise she gave him during their last meeting. She felt a bit bad, but he did ask for it.
"Oh. Hi...look, we got off on the wrong foot, well, fin in your case, I guess." Well, this was awkward. She crouched on the deck, lowering her self closer to his level, but before she could continue she was hit with a shock of cold as she was suddenly drenched in ice cold ocean water. She gasped, and stood back up and looked to the water to see the merman grinning proudly at her. "You ass!"
He just laughed and did and backflip. When he reemerged, he tapped his buried face, indicating it was revenge for his injury.
"Seriously!?" She wipped the water off her face. "You deserved that, you ass hat! You were going to eat me!" She sighed, moving her hair out of her face, semi slicked back with the water holding in in place. She supposed being splashed with ice cold water wasn't the worse thing he could had done in retaliation. Though it was still uncalled for considering she was trying to be nice.
Meanwhile, he had swam up to the edge to the dock, pulled himself up, and rested on his elbows. He was looking up at her with a grin on his face that showed off his teeth. They were quite sharp looking.
Mikage looked him over. He was covered with shiny blue and white scales and lots of scars. The scars looked like claw marks. Did he regular get into fights with other merpeople? He did seem rather aggressive. However, if he attacked again, she could fend him off, especially since they were closer to her turf this time.
"So," she started, sitting on the dock in front of him, a few feet away to keep some distance between them. "Do you plan on eating me?" He shook his head. "You know I have no reason to believe you after the stunt you pulled, right?" She raised her brow at him, questioningly.
He looked down as if thinking, then looked back up at her before tapping his closed fingers on his lips twice then gesturing to her.
"Yes, you kissed me. You wanna do it again?" she asked in a joking manner. But his eyes seemed to light up at the suggestion. "Wait, seriously?" This was starting to be too much. "Hold on. So, I'm out there, minding my own business when you spotted me. You think, 'Hm, tasty meal, I'll just drag it down and eat it.' But it didn't go to plan, and I did...something, which triggered an attraction in you to me, which you want to pursue despite the fact that we're most likely completely incompatible?"
He seemed taken aback by the last bit. He pulled himself up more onto the deck, sitting on his hip with his long shiny tail hanging off the side. As Mikage looks his body over to see even more scales a scars, he clicked at her somewhat angrily.
"Let me guess. 'What the hell do you mean incompatible!?' right? Well, for starters, have you looked at us? We're not the same species. I'm human. You're, well...not. And we can barely even communicate as it is."
He frowned. She was right obviously, and couldn't be more right if she tried. He wasn't happy about it, but there wasn't anything he could do about it.
Or was there?
