The high-pitched sound of birds chirping caused Randy to wake up. However, it was the aching in his lower back that kept him awake. The glaring red numbers on the Livingroom cable box showed the time at half pasted 6:00 AM. Randy stretched out as he turned his back to the ever-brightening window near the television set in an attempt to harness just a few more minutes of slumber. He had slept quite well overall considering he was forced to sleep on the couch for the past few hours, because by the time his sister had shown up, very upset, the night before he was already very heavily intoxicated. Randy had the impressive ability to be able to find sleep just about anywhere… so long as he had a bit of liquor in him. Thus, why he offered up his bed for his twin sister to crash on for the night as he sprawled out on his roommates broken down unit of furniture.

A defeated sigh escaped Randy as the sound of footsteps entering the apartments living area. "Morning, Sandy." Randy greeted with a yawn. The male squirrel didn't even have to look behind him to know it was her. There was no way his roommate, Jeff, would be awake at this early hour on their day off, especially considering they were both up drinking for a good portion of the night.

"Morning." His sister greeted back without even a hint of grogginess.

"Sorry if me and my girlfriend here kept ya up all night with our loud passionate sex." Randy held up a couch pillow, he had been cuddling with for the majority of the night, for her to see. His lips curled into a smile as he heard a small chuckle come from her direction.

"Love truly is blind." She sighed as she walked into the small adjacent kitchen and started to make a pot of coffee.

"Don't insult my woman, woman!" He laughed while popping his head up to look at his sister in the kitchen.

"The insult was fer yer smartass, smartass." She grinned back before sticking her tongue out at him causing him to do the same before plopping back down on the couch and out of her site

"At least she seems ta be in a better mood." He thought to himself as he looked up at the ceiling and listened to the sounds of the coffeemaker heating up the water Sandy had just poured into it. He continued to listen to her going through their cupboards and fridge for a few minutes before she walked up to the couch, pushed his legs out of her way, before taking a seat.

"I was gonna be nice and make y'all some breakfast, since ya let me stay here last night, but you boys don't seem ta know how ta buy groceries."

"I have plenty of twinkies behind the seat in my truck, but I'm not dumb enough ta bring food into a house that I share with a stoner!" Randy then placed his legs in his sister's lap so he could continue to stretch out on the extremely uncomfortable couch they now both occupied. "Jeff may be skinny, but that cat is a bottomless pit!"

"Lucky him." Sandy smirked as she tapped on her bothers stomach. "I don't think he'd wear a beer belly as well as you do." Her smirk only grew as Randy pushed her hands away from him and sat up shocked.

"I don't got no belly, ya lying jerk." He playfully pushed her and then patted her tummy. " I can't wait until we hit 30 here soon, and you get fat." The smile left his face quickly as she didn't seem to find his teasing amusing anymore.

"It's gonna be a lot sooner than that." She looked at the ground as some deep depression seemed to take over her in mere seconds.

"Come on, Sandy." He placed his hand on her shoulder and then lightly pulled her in for a hug. "I was just playing. We both got dad's metabolism. Ya ain't gonna get fat. Don't act like such a girl." He kissed the side of her head and then let her go as she continued look blankly at the floor.

"I'm pregnant." She responded as the ground before her seemed to keep her focused.

Randy opened his mouth but no words poured at first. Did he hear her right? "Pregnant?" He asked a bit confused.

"Yes. Pregnant." She now closed her eyes after confirming her condition to her brother.

"Holy hell!" Randy yelled happily. "WOW!" He pulled Sandy in for a tight hug as he laughed with joy. His reaction shocked her more than a bit causing her to open her eyes and now look at him with confusion. He then released his grip on his female sibling before grabbing onto her shoulders and smiling at her like a fool. "This is great! Ma is gonna flip out! Have you seen it yet, or heard da heartbeat?" Sandy smiled a bit as she watched her brother's excitement.

"Not yet. I got an appointment next week."

"Can I come?" Randy blushed a little bit as he spoke before he thought much on his request. "I mean if it's ok with Shadow."

The slight smile her brother had brought to her quickly disappeared as the name of her husband was spoken. "Shadow isn't going." She looked away from her brother again recalling the conversation she had with her beloved spouse the night before.

Randy's good mood quickly disappeared as well after he finally realized why his sister had seeked shelter in his apartment not long after her doctor's appointment. "Sandy…" Randy bit his tongue as he knew full well, she didn't need to hear his angry thoughts at the moment. After a few deep breaths he calmed himself enough to speak again. "Can I come?"

She looked back at her brother and nodded in approval. "I'd like that. Thank ya." The two siblings hugged each other for a moment before the coffee maker started to beep to alert the house that their coffee was done. Sandy attempted to stand up but was pulled back down to the couch by her brother gripping her arm.

"I got it." He stood up and kissed her forehead before walking off to the kitchen to retrieve their caffeinated beverage. "I can't have a disabled pregnant lady doing work in my house." He giggled as he poured them both a cup of dark liquid.

Sandy took the lone couch pillow and threw it in her brother's direction causing him to duck and laugh harder. "Stop murdering my girlfriends, Sandy!" He stood back up, pillow in hand, before kissing it and then tossing it aside. "Oh well… she was kinda a whore anyway."

Sandy shook her head in disbelief, but still showing her good mood, as her brother approached her with their coffee cups. "It's so hard to believe that we grew up in tha same house."

"Nah it ain't!" Randy sat down next to his sister and gave her a cup of coffee before taking a sip of his own. "Yer the smart one, and I'm the good looking, interesting, one." He then winked at her getting an eyeroll from her in response.

Her annoyed yet amused responses to him always gave him the biggest high, and this moment was no different from the others. It might have even been a bit sweater in his mind as she was over all upset, but he was still able to make her smile. She deserved to smile more than anyone he'd ever met in his life. She was one of the few truly good people to inhabit the plant, in his opinion. He was beyond overjoyed that she'd be bring more amazing beings into the world. "When are ya gonna tell ma?"

"Oh boy!" Sandy sat her mug down on the coffee table and slapped her knees. She then started to rub them nervously. "I think I better wait until after tha ultrasound. I mean…. Right now, it still seems so unreal." She picked up her mug again and started enjoying it once more.

"Seems so." Randy pointed to her drinking the caffeinated hot beverage. "I always figured if ya got knocked up you'd become even more health crazy than ever before…. God help us!" Randy wiped a fake tear away as he pretended to weep.

"I will cut back, and yeah…" She sighed a bit disappointed in herself already. "So much has ta change now." She sat her mug down again, but now holding little need for picking it back up again. She was going to be a mother. She was just told she had a life inside of her…. Despite the fact it didn't feel real to her yet was no reason to put off making the changes that were needed.

"Can I buy you breakfast, little brother?" She teased her twin brother that was born an hour after her.

Randy did constantly tease her that the only reason he wasn't as smart as her was that he was deprived oxygen as their mother struggled to deliver him after she was born. For a long while she always saw it as a bad joke, but as they became older, she realized he was really using it as a defense while dressing it up as a joke. But that was Randy… He hid behind his humor. That's why his current excitement for her pregnancy meant so much to her. It wasn't a joke to him. He was showing actually joy and not making light of it. It meant so much to her… She just looked back and wished she had had the same experience with her husband, who also hated to show his feelings. Both men showed their true feelings on the situation… But her brother feelings on the matter were what she hoped for from her husband, and the fact it was her sibling, instead of her husband, showed such approval only made the difference between the two sting more.
