A/N: Hola strangers. So here's the deal. I've been put on a new medication for anxiety. It's been a very big adjustment. While overall I feel better, I'm starting to realize that at least part of the reason I was writing so much before was it was a way for me to get out my pent up energy. I don't need to do that anymore, as it's much easier for me to just sit back and relax. So while my writing speed is probably going to slow down, I am actually doing better than I was and am able to do even more things that I enjoy. So please be patient with me while I work through this. Thanks!
I am planning to work through the Harry Potter series through Allegra's eyes, so this is not the last chapter, nor will it be the last chapter featuring Sam and Dean and Bobby.
"And then we…"
Severus chuckled. He'd been at Bobby's house for all of twenty minutes and Allegra hadn't stopped talking yet. Bobby had offered him a drink, which Severus turned down with a simple shake of his head and taking a seat at the kitchen table. Allie allowed him to sit but immediately went back to talking. Severus chuckled and gently placed a hand on Allegra mouth.
"Darling, I love you more than anything else in the world. But give me a moment to catch my breath, please."
Allegra blushed but smiled. "Okay, Dad."
"Come here, love."
Allegra gladly offered her father the hug he sought, for once not caring how everyone was looking at her. Her father was back and everything would be good again.
"Dad?"
Severus, who had just begun to take a seat, frowned. He hadn't wanted to have this conversation yet, but he knew that attempting to push it back would do nothing but make Allegra anxious. Sighing, he took her arm and pulled her in front of him.
"I don't like that look."
Despite the bad news weighing down his heart, Severus smiled. "What look?"
"The one that says I won't like what you're about to tell me." Allegra said. "Dad, please, I want to go home."
"I'm sorry, love. I can't bring you back home."
A fist had wrapped itself around Allegra's heart. She was certain of it. Because her ability to breathe, to think, to focus on anything other than how much she hated it here compared to her home, was gone. The only way she'd gotten through the last few weeks was to imagine herself back at home, in her own room, surrounded by her own things, with her father there every single day. To think that it wasn't going to happen now? Allegra was crushed.
"What are you talking about? You said this was temporary."
"I thought that it would be, darling. I really did. But things are happening and I can't risk you being home with me right now."
"What things?"
"Things that I won't discuss with you. You'll find out soon enough."
Severus' tone broached no opportunity for Allegra to argue. It was partially to stop her from asking, but partially because Severus just didn't feel Allegra needed to know yet. All too soon, she would realize what he was afraid was happening, and he would do whatever he had to do to keep her hidden from it as long as was possible. Allegra turned her head down, not sure how to respond, and Severus simply took her chin.
"I'm sorry. Please just trust me here. It's not safe. If it was, I would take you back home in a heartbeat."
"Are you saying I'll never see you again?"
At that, Severus smiled. He could at least give her the good news he'd come to give her. He pulled the letter he'd kept in the pocket of his cloak and handed it to Allegra. Despite how scared she felt, Allegra smiled and took the letter from Severus.

"I got in."
"Of course you did." Severus said.
"Why did it come to you?" Allegra asked.
"I took it from the pile of admissions letters. I figured you'd like me to deliver it."
Allegra smiled. "I do."
"Well, open it up."

Though the letter brought her happiness, there was a tinge of sadness to it too. Allegra held the letter in her hand, imagining she could feel her mother behind her. She pictured Rebecca standing behind her, arms around her neck, laughing with pride and kissing the top of her head at the sight of the letter. Just another thing that she'd never share with her mother.
"What is it?" Severus asked. "Talk to me."
"I miss mum." Allegra murmured.
Severus frowned. "I know. I do too." He gently grabbed Allegra's chin and gently pulled it up so he was looking at her. "I'm sorry. If it was at all safe to bring you home, I would."
"When will I see you?"
"You'll see me all through the school year." Severus promised. "You and I will spend Christmas break at Hogwarts, then you'll come here for the summer."
"So just during the summer?"
"Just during the summer." Severus promised. "And I'll come see you during the summer to help you get ready for school."
"You promise?"
"I promise. Now I've only got one night to spend with you. Can we make the most of it, please?"
Allegra smiled. "Yes, sir. I missed you, Dad."
"I missed you too. So much, little one."
Dean couldn't help it. He didn't trust Severus. He couldn't put his finger on why, but he just didn't. Stern looks from Bobby and Sam prevented him from saying anything. Severus had brought several of Allegra's toys with him. One was a chess set, with pieces that actually moved and crashed against each other. The set was a well-used one, with a name in the corner of Rebecca Snape. Severus and Allegra played well into the night, and Dean simply stared at her. She was happier than she'd been the entire time she'd been at Bobby's.
Despite his mistrust of all things magical, Dean couldn't help but be amazed at the other gifts. Allegra's stuffed bunny smiled and hugged her back when she hugged it. The pictures in her books moved. The photos in the scrapbook which Severus brought her also moved. There was a card game that exploded, a few plastic blocks, and a variety of other things that Severus pulled out of his bag.
Dean tried not to be jealous, but he couldn't help it. Allegra smiled and laughed throughout the night, but Dean could tell she was upset. Once she was put to bed that night, another surprise got thrown his way.
"What do you mean you're going with them tomorrow?"
"Dean please…." Sam said, exasperated.
"Seriously, Sam. Why are you getting deeper and deeper into this?"
"What the hell are you talking about, Dean? She's our sister, I'm just trying to get to know her better."
"I'm not convinced of that." Dean said.
"I wasn't either."
Dean's frown deepened when Severus came out of Allegra's room. He'd gone in half an hour earlier to tuck her in. Carefully, he closed the door behind him, before walking over and standing between Sam and Dean. He first looked to Sam.
"Thank you for treating her like part of your family. I appreciate it more than you know. She trusts you, which helps me trust you. It makes me feel better about leaving her here."
"You're welcome." Sam said. "She's a great kid."
"We're planning to leave around nine in the morning."
"Looking forward to it."
"May I have a moment with Dean?" Severus asked.
"Sure. See you in the morning."
Sam turned and went to his room. Dean wanted to do the same, but he didn't. Severus turned and said nothing at first. Dean couldn't explain why, but he felt intimidated. The two of them were the same height, and Dean could easily take Severus if he wanted. Before Dean could say or do anything, Severus began to speak.
"I understand that you don't trust me or Allegra. We're different from you. I get it. But whatever problems you have, I'm asking you nicely not to take them out on her."
"Look, it's nothing personal…"
"It is personal. Look, I didn't like your father to begin with either. The first time I met him, Allegra was a year old. He was rude, gruff, and seemed only to care about himself. But he loved Allegra, and he did everything he could to help me and Rebecca take care of her. He was a part of our family, whether you knew about it or not. Any problems you have with him about this are your problems with him. We have nothing to do with it."
Irritated with being chastised like he was a child, but knowing that Severus was absolutely right, Dean nodded.
"You don't have to do anything to help care for her. She is not your responsibility when she's here, so you don't get to complain about it. If you don't want to be nice to her, then back off and don't say anything to her. But hear me clearly with what I am about to say. John Winchester may be her father biologically, but that little girl in there is my daughter. And if I have to listen to her cry because she doesn't understand what she's done to make her own brother treat her like she's a bad person one more time, I will not take the time to warn you again that I don't have to do anything to you. A few little words and I can ruin you. Do you understand me?"
"Look, you don't get to threaten…"
"That is not a threat, Mr. Winchester. It's a promise. Now, do I make myself clear?"
"Dean, listen to him and go to bed."
Bobby had come out of his bedroom and was standing in the doorway. Dean huffed and went to his bed. Fuming, he sat awake half the night wondering just how screwed up his life had gotten. The next day, he left the house before anyone else got up and came back to find Severus and Allegra in the living room. There were several bags of things on the floor, and Allegra was trying hard not to cry. Something broke inside of Dean as he watched the scene unfold.
"I have to go now, darling."
Allegra nodded. "I know, Dad."
"I will see you in four weeks." Severus promised. "Just use the journal whenever you want to talk to me. Alright?"
"It's not the same." Allegra protested.
"I know, sweet girl. I'm sorry. But this is the way things have to be right now. Maybe they'll change and I'll be able to bring you back home, but right now I need you safe. Give me a hug?"
Allegra grabbed Severus's neck tightly and held on. Bobby was in the kitchen, pretending to cook dinner, and Sam stood in the doorway, watching the two of them with limitless sympathy. Finally, Severus let go of Allegra, kissed her one more time on the cheek, then snapped his fingers and just disappeared. Allegra went to the journal on the coffee table in front of her, opened it to the front page, and wrote a simple I love you Daddy.
A few seconds later, her message disappeared to be replaced with an I love you too. So much. Please try and be happy.
Dean didn't understand much-well, anything-about the world Allegra came from. He was still suspicious of it. Spells and curses and witches and wizards and strange books and toys was enough to make Dean want to stay as far away from all of that as he could. But watching Allegra on the couch, staring at her father's message like turning away meant she would lose him forever, he realized something that the two of them had in common.
Missing your mom and dad? Feeling crushed watching your father leave you behind in order to "protect" you? That, Dean certainly understood.
Without fully realizing what he was doing, Dean took a seat on the couch and grabbed Allegra's hand. To his surprise, five seconds later she was in his lap, arms wrapped tightly around his neck, sobbing. He held her the way he'd done Sam years before, and for the first time, Dean realized that he didn't just have to get used to the idea of his father having another kid.
He had a sister.
