Chapter II

A few hours later, Kevin carried little Micheal into their spare bedroom back at their apartment and laid him down on the bed. Krystal followed them behind.

"Why don't you lie down here." Kevin said to him. "And close your eyes."

"I don't sleep." Micheal said, "Why don't I sleep? I always run around during both night and day."

Kevin smiled at him.

"You're just like me." He replied, "You're a dhampir."

"A dhampir?" Micheal said, "What's a dhampir?"

Krystal turned to Kevin, then to Micheal.

"A dhampir is someone who is born to a mortal mother and a vampire father." Kevin replied, "They are not full vampires, although they have all of their strengths. Not the weaknesses. Now, good night."

Kevin and Krystal got up from the bed.

"Don't go." Micheal said to them, while grabbing Krystal's arm. "Please. I don't wanna be alone as a monster."

"Sweetheart, don't worry." Krystal replied, "Kevin and I are gonna be in the other room if you need us."

"And listen to me." Kevin said as he knelt down beside him, "You're not a monster. You're just born different. Remember that."

"I will." Micheal said, "Goodnight."

He closed his eyes, while Kevin and Krystal left the room. Krystal closed the door behind, and sat down on the couch beside Kevin who turned the television on to the 11 o' clock news.

"And now live from Lylat system's news source." The tv news annoucer said, "This is Newscenter 50 at 11."

"That poor kid." Krystal said, shaking her head.

"Yea." Kevin replied, "I know what that kid went through. Being scared and having no friends because of who you are. It was rough for me when I was his age, and it's rough for Micheal."

"We should help him." Krystal said, "But what can we do? We cannot go to the police because of his heritage."

Kevin though about this, then got an idea, just as the rest of their teammates appeared out of black mist, including Cella, his mother and leader of the group. He got up and exchanged hugs with her. Krystal did as well. After all, Cella had been her mother-in-law for the past four years. She wore her usual black outfit, including black lipstick.

"No sign of any rouge vampires tonight, mom." Kevin said to her, "However, I do need help."

"What is it?" Dennis asked

"On the way home, Krystal and I found a little four-year-old dhampir kid named Micheal Jones. He's in the other bedroom right now."

"Was his dad one of Recon's goons?" Sandra asked

"We don't know." Kevin replied, "We couldn't take him to the police. We need you guys to ask around in the undead world.

He gave them all a full detailed physical description of Micheal to the group.

"And he said he doesn't have any parents." Kevin concluded.

"Poor kid." Johnathan said, "We'll do everything we can."

"Starting tonight." Cella said, "Everyone, spread out and start looking for info. Wolf? Spread the word to Fox."

"Yes, ma'am." Wolf replied.

Everyone dissipated into black mist and teleported out of the apartment, except for Cella, who took a swig of blood from a flask she had with her. She looked around and saw Kevin, standing on the back balcony. She dissipated into black mist and appeared beside him.

"You ok?" Cella asked him

"I'm just worried that we may not be able to find out anything about his parents." Kevin replied, "If we adopt him, I'm not sure if I'm gonna be a good dad. Krystal will make a good mom."

"Well, you and Krystal found him." Cella said, "He needs parental figures to look up to. Being parents are a big responsibility. You guys can do it, just be patient with him."

She kissed him, then dissipated into black mist and disapeared into the Cornerian night. Kevin sighed, letting those words sink in. He dissipated into black mist, then appeared in his and Krystal's bedroom for the night.
