Where we last left off, Tails and Sonic were talking about things Tails needed to raise the children.

"How can I be 100% sure the kids in the box are my kids?" Tails thought. "I mean, half of them have my fur colour, but there could be another two-tailed fox in this world... surely I'm not the only one." So, Tails being Tails, he went down to the workshop and got a DNA test kit. So, he plucked out one of the hairs that grew from just above his forehead, then plucked a hair from one of the red-furred cubs (who he'd named Flynn), then plucked a hair from another one of the yellow-furred cubs (who he'd named Kilian). And he put the contents in the DNA test kit. It was confirmed. The hairs matched; or, at least, the two hairs he'd plucked out from Flynn and Kilian had a genetic relationship to the hair he'd plucked from above his forehead to the point where it was 100% sure Flynn and Kilian were his kids. And if Flynn and Kilian were his kids, the other cubs were his as well.

The morning after, when Tails was ready to leave on his morning fly-by (yes, it was one of those days where Tails decided to fly instead of walk), he realized something.

"I need to get Sonic."

So, he did what normal people do, and called over Sonic. And he got there in record time. They don't call Maurice Hedges "Sonic the Hedgehog" for nothing, you know.

"What's up, Tails?" Sonic greeted. This was Sonic's usual greeting to Tails, after all. So it was par for the course for Sonic to greet Tails with "What's up, Tails?" every time Tails called him.

"Remember those kids from a few days ago?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"I just did a DNA test, and... they're mine. I'm 100% sure they're mine now."

"So, what do you want me to do with the kids, Tails?"

"I'm going out on my morning fly-by, Sonic. So you're going to babysit them."

Meanwhile, Kilian was desperately trying to use his twin tails to fly. Being a few-months-old cub, Kilian didn't know much about the world. Neither did Flynn, Tails Jr., or any of the other cubs for that matter. Sonic peered at the little yellow-furred two-tailed fox. "This is going to be a hassle, isn't it?" Sonic thought.

"Uhh... what are you staring at?" Tails asked.

"The kid trying to fly like his father..." Sonic answered. To the blue hedgehog, Kilian trying to fly was so cute he might die. Especially considering this was his best friend Tails's son. Not his only son, of course.

"I still don't know who their mother is. I better go now..." Tails explained. Of course, this wasn't going to be the usual circuit Tails would go around. Along the route, he'd make a stop to the Chaotix detective agency; they would probably be able to investigate who the cubs' mother was, and what monster left the cubs in a box on a manky alleyway.

Meanwhile, Maurice "Sonic" Hedges was going to be a babysitter for the first time. And it had to be his best friend's kids. His best friend's kids that his best friend doesn't remember having. And his best friend didn't even know their mother. To Sonic, it seemed like Tails had forced the events that lead up to this out of his mind. Or, what some called "selective amnesia". Sonic was happy Tails had at least remembered to buy formula for the cubs. With Tails working on the aircraft or some new invention all the time, he would sometimes forget to do things he had scheduled to do for a certain time, usually turning up late, which had raised some arguments. But Sonic would always tell whoever was starting the argument to cut Tails a little slack. After all, Tails was his best friend. And he was Tails's best friend.

Tails was flying the portion of the circuit near the park in his neighborhood when he suddenly remembered he'd needed to go to the Chaotix detective agency. And he'd just passed the street they were in. And then Tails realized he did not bring in any evidence for the Chaotix, which would probably provide a lead as to who their mother was, and as to what sort of monster would dump their kids- oh wait, it wasn't just their kids, it was HIS KIDS, which just made it worse for him. So Tails returned home to collect the evidence.

"Back so soon, Tails?" Sonic inquired. "So I can finally leave..." he then thought.

"You're not relieved from duty, I've just came here to take a few things." Tails explained.

"Aw, fine... at least they're not that much of a nuisance." Sonic thought.

Meanwhile, Tails was going down to the workshop. The twin-tailed fox took several printed-out photos of the cubs, the DNA evidence he'd earlier taken from himself, Kilian and Flynn, a photo of the box Kilian, Flynn and the others were found in, and a MobiusMaps screenshot of the location he'd found the box in. He first put the DNA test with the hairs still in them into a Ziploc bag, then put the photos and screenshot in a little cardboard box that had an area slightly larger than the area of the photos. And then he began going around the circuit again, but this time taking a turn to the Chaotix detective agency. He finally entered the building for the first time. At least, it was his first time entering the building to file a new case. Tails started talking to the receptionist.

"Hi, my name is Miles Prower. Are you willing to open a new case?" Tails began.

"Uhh... we certainly can. What is your name?" the receptionist (Tails wasn't sure what species the receptionist was, but he looked like he was a kestrel) asked.

"Are you deaf? I just said my name was Miles Prower!" Tails replied angrily.

"No need to shout, Miles! Now, I just need the details of the case, and then I'll send it off." the receptionist answered.

"Alright... I've got these 6 cubs I discovered on this alleyway..." Tails started to recount the case. As he mentioned the alleyway, he'd opened the box and placed the screenshot of the alley he'd discovered the box in on the desk. "I found them in this box." As Tails mentioned the box, he placed another picture, this time of the box he'd found the cubs in. "I'm their father, but I don't remember having them, or ever meeting their mother." Tails then pulled the Ziploc bag with the DNA test and placed it on the table. He then rattled off something about their appearance. As he was rattling off about their appearance, he then took the pictures of the cubs out. Each of the pictures showed a different cub, i.e. one of them was of Kilian, another one would be of Flynn, another one would be of Tails Jr., etc.

"This sounds like a lot... Fine. I'll take this to the detectives." the receptionist declared. He then left with the evidence, a piece of lined paper showing the details and name of the person who'd told them about the case.

That's it for Chapter 2, really.
