Backseat Serenade
Author's Note: So I know its been a long time since I updated this fic. What... two years? But I'm back and ready to work on it! I've been really heavy into the My Hero Academia fandom and that's what I've been working on the most before my laptop decided to shit out on me and make it almost impossible for me to work on anything. At the moment, I can so I'm taking advantage of that for the time being! Well here is the next update to Backseat Serenade! I hope you enjoy!
Additional Notes: So this fic is taking a turn for the worse before it gets better.
Chapter Warnings: Mostly canon stuff you could say, mentions of dub-con touching, maybe more. Always tread my fics lightly, anything can show up at any time.
Chapter Two: Another One Bites the Dust (Glee Cast Version)
Chapter Summary: After the scene with Delvega working undercover, Adam and Jay head back to Jay's apartment. Meeting up with Delvega again, they realize that there might be more to this drug trafficking ring than originally thought. Jay discovers the rumors are true when he is targetted by Delvega.
Adam felt like an utter asshole as he went back to Jay's place with the detective. He had placed Jay into a situation that he shouldn't have been in at the slightest. It was all for the case wasn't it? Jay had been completely silent throughout the entire drive and immediately upon arriving at his apartment, had disappeared into the bathroom once he gave Adam a beer. The blonde looked around the apartment almost awkwardly. This was supposed to be him making up for allowing Jay to basically give their target a lap dance. Jay had even gone far enough to allow Delvega to touch him, kiss on him.
He would probably never admit it to the detective but he felt a flare of anger... or even jealously... going through him as he watched the scene unfold. His pants had annoyingly gotten tighter as he had watched Jay's body move. He had never looked at another man in that light before. He thought he could do this without any issues. Yet for some reason, he found himself wanting to be the one that Jay had been dancing on. Jay had all but grinded on him on the dancefloor and a part of him wanted him to do again. He's only ever felt the touch of a woman before so this was new territory for him. It actually felt nice.
Adam groaned quietly, taking a sip from the beer in his hand as he took a seat on Jay's couch. He had never been in here before. From what he knew only Alvin and Antonio had been in Jay's apartment. Maybe Erin but he couldn't be sure. He looked around, taking in the sights of the room before him. The room was very much Jay. It was cozy and small but wasn't littered with random objects that he normally saw in other people's places. It was refreshing.
He could still hear the sound of the shower running, signifying that Jay was still in the shower. Adam got back up, taking another drink as he moved around to look at the various pictures on the walls. A few pictures contained members of the Intelligence Unit alongside Jay that Nadia had taken one day while the other pictures were of what Adam could only think would be Jay's family. One picture had a younger Jay, probably from high school,.next to a red head that was wearing a college sweat shirt. Adam could quickly tell it was Will Halstead, one of the doctor's from Chicago Med. He's only met Will once by chance but it was clearly him. Both of them were smiling widely in the picture, throwing peace signs at the camera. Will's arm was wrapped around Jay, pulling him into a head lock but both held a large grin on their faces.
"My mom took that picture. I was going into my senior year and Will came home for a few weeks before going back to school." Jay's voice caused Adam to almost jump out of his skin as he turned to see the detective now dressed in a loose t-shirt and sweat pants. Water dripped from his hair and the temporary pink hair dye was gone. Adam choked down the knot in his throat and forced a smile onto his face.
"That was quick." Adam mentally slapped himself for his response but it had been the only thing that he could think of saying in that moment. The air around them was awkward and tense. With his free hand, he scratched the back of his head and let out a nervous laugh.
"Don't feel guilty about tonight, Adam. We are working a case, sometimes working undercover puts you in situations like that. You should know that." Jay muttered, his face flushed over as he looked away from the blonde.
Adam sighed. "I still put you in that situation. Delvega used my words against me. I didn't think he was actually going to act on it." He replied.
Jay shrugged, drinking from a beer bottle that he had placed down on the table before he had disappeared to take his shower. "You got in with him. This man is putting drugs on the street that is killing people. Kids. If it helps, it was worth it."
Adam nodded, not being able to find the words to say.
Moving around the couch, Jay took a seat, beckoning Adam over to sit down with him. Jay curled up his legs onto the couch next to him, getting more comfortable. Adam watched his movements as he took his own seat. His eyes lingering for a moment too long before he finally managed to look away from the detective.
What the hell was going on with him now?

Intelligence hadn't managed to find anything else on Delvega before Adam had his meet up with him. With money in a dufflebag, Adam leaned against his car waiting for the man to arrive. Ever since that night, Adam had spent more time with Jay than he had before. That first night, they had gotten drunk together and Adam ended up crashing out on the detective's couch. That had been the start of it. Adam couldn't place what was coursing through him at the thought of Jay being around another guy or Delvega touching on the man but all he knew was it made him angry. He felt like a hormone filled high school kid again and that only angered him even more. He had found himself wanted to protect Jay even more. Wanting to be around him more. Find out more about him. What the hell was happening to him?
Jay wasn't far from him, leaning against the back of the car. Delvega had messaged him not long before the meet up, requesting that Jay be in attendance as well. Adam had a bad feeling about this. Delvega had a bit too much interest in Jay for comfort. Maybe that's where the anger was coming from for him. The way that Delvega had been looking at Jay like he was some sort of prize. He remembered seeing the possessive look in Delvega's eye that night. Delvega had looked him straight in the eye as he had practically assaulted the detective. Like he had won something.
It was just a feeling but Adam was sure at this point that Delvega had ulterior motives that he needed to watch out for. He had to have Jay's back. Jay had already given himself enough for this case on his part. The protective feeling was getting stronger each time that he got a message from Delvega. He just hoped with everything that he had that this gut feeling was completely wrong.
The crunching of tires on gravel pulled Adam from his thoughts as he looked up to see Delvega pulling into the lot. A few feet from them, Delvega stopped his car and got out, straightening his button up shirt as he closed the car door behind him. "David, good to see you." Delvega said before moving his gaze to Jay for a moment. Jay practically shrunk in on himself but kept his eyes forward. "Gotta make this quick, I have more business to take care of. Some of our guests aren't exactly doing as they are told."
Adam peered over his shoulder to Jay, who was also giving him the same look. Something about what Delvega had just told them sent chills down Adam's spine. Antonio's CI had mentioned they suspected that Delvega was behind a sex trafficking ring in the area but didn't have proof to follow up the claim other than rumors. Maybe, it really was true. Unfortunately, there still wasn't enough information to go on. Adam doubted that if he started to ask questions that Delvega would gladly give him the answers. It would probably look more suspicious than appearing to be trying to go into business with him.
"It's all here. The agreed upon cut." Adam stated, handing over the dufflebag. Delvega took the bag from his hands, looking inside for a moment before tossing it into the driver's window. The man rounded his car and popped the trunk, pulling out another dufflebag from within.
"The next supply. If you keep this up, I might be able to connect you with ways to make some more cash. That is if you agree." Delvega stated, handing the dufflebag over.
Adam nodded. "I might be interested." The blonde stated.
Delvega smiled at him. "Good. I believe that you will find this type of product very diserable."
All Adam could do was nod, the way that Delvega's words flowed causing his stomach to flip. He looked over his shoulder to Jay, who was giving him the exact same look. They knew where this was going. "When and where?" Adam questioned, finally turning to look back to Delvega.
Delvega's smile only got bigger. "I'll be in touch. A few of my men will take you to see the product."

Upon returning back to Intelligence, Adam sighed as he took a seat at his desk and rubbed his face. "I think we all know what he meant by a more diserable product." Adam muttered, the rest of his team looking at him.
"He has to be into trafficking. While we can't find actual connections, I would play on this lead." Erin stated. "It could be our only chance if he is involved somehow."
"I gotta agree with Erin. If he really is involved, we could stop the ring now." Jay added.
Voight hummed in acknowledgement. "Ruzek, Halstead. Go in on it." The man finally said after a moment of silence.
"You got it boss."

The weeks that followed, Adam and Jay spent more time together. Even being put into a safe house together that they allowed for Delvega's men to come to. The day came that Delvega arranged for the meet for this so called new product and Adam felt his stomach doing flips as he went with the men.
Adam had lost count of the time it took to get from the safe house to the warehouse that Delvega's men took him too. Jay was left behind with a couple of the other men and it left a nervous feeling running through Adam. He couldn't place it but the feeling that he had the day they made the original trade off was surfacing again. He didn't like where this was going. All the time that he was working undercover and now suddenly he was getting a bad feeling. He hadn't felt this before when working. He was good at covering himself up even if he did act reckless at times. Something about this was different.
Adam stepped out of the car, taking in as much of the surroundings as he could so he could report it back to his team. His mind ventured to Jay for a moment. Ever since this case had started, he had all his meals with the other man, they woke up together. Almost as if they really were a couple. They had fallen into a route together, dancing around each other as if they had lived together in their real lives. Jay could take care of himself. Adam knew that but he just hoped whatever this gut feeling was is wrong.
"David! Nice to see you again!" Delvega stated as Adam walked up alongside the three men. Adam placed the best smile he could on his face and reached out and shook Delvega's hand. Delvega turned from him, motioning for them to follow him. "You see David, like I was telling you the other day, I do deal with more than just the drugs that you saw. I also deal with humans. The money you can make off of them is greater than that of the drugs that you just get off of the streets. Something about people, my buyers just love." Delvega paused for a moment, stopping in his tracks as he turned to face Adam. "David, how long have you known your boyfriend for?"
Adam felt the confusion go through him. "For about two years." He stated.
Delvega nodded. "Were you aware that your little boyfriend is a cop."
