Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. J. K. Rowling does.
Harry woke, feeling groggy. What had happened? Suddenly, he remembered reading a letter telling he was a wizard. "Eurgh" Harry moaned.
"Yeh all right? " said Hagrid, helping him to his feet. He was in some sort of Alley.
"Yeah," said Harry. "Its not true is it? Magic I mean. My aunt and uncle says its not real."
"It is all right," said Hagrid grimly. "And I'll be having words with your relatives. Don't now what Dumbledore's thinking. " Harry asked who Dumbledore was. Hagrid proceeded to tell Harry about the Wizarding World.
"So I defeated a dark wizard called Voldemort?" Harry asked, bemused.
"Blimey Harry, don't say the name!" Hagrid yelled.
"Why?" Harry asked curiously.
"Just don't say it," said Hagrid nervously, peering around the alley as of scared Voldemort jumping from a dark corner and shout 'boo!". Hagrid told Harry to follow him to a large, grand building at the front of the alley. The sign read: Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
"Who runs the bank?" Harry asked curiously.
"Goblins," grunted Hagrid as they walked up the stairs leading towards the bank. At the very top there was a inscription which read:
Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed,
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn,
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.
Harry and Hagrid were bowed in by two goblins. The goblins looked like gnomes in Harry's opinion. When Harry looked around his mouth dropped open. The whole room was filled with goblins, sitting behind counters and serving the giant queues of wizards. Harry and Hagrid made their way to a goblin on the far right.
" My name is Ragnok. How can I be of assistance?" said the goblin. His tone was sharp and not at all friendly.
"Harry Potter wishes to enter his vault and I have to collect an item from 713," said Hagrid knowingly. The goblin looked shocked and looked at Harry. Terrible pain shot through Harry's scar as the goblin looked at Harry.
" Harry! Yeh all right? " Hagrid asked, holding onto Harry's hand.
"I'm fine, its just a headache," said Harry, staring at the goblin. Something seemed wrong with the goblin but Harry supposed that it was probably a coincidence.
"I shall take you to the vaults you requested," said Ragnok, leading them into a hallway full of carts. Harry, Hagrid and the goblin climbed into the cart and they zoomed off, Harry trying to peer into vaults when he passed them. Harry saw a dragon once. It breathed fire which caught onto Hagrid's hair and beard leaving him bald. Hagrid was not amused and used his pink umbrella to regrow his hair and beard. Finally they reached Harry's vault Harry gaped! He was rich! Hundreds and hundreds piles of gold lay there, begging him to be spent. Hagrid helped Harry scoop up his gold and they were off again, heading to vault 713.
"Here we are, " said the goblin, pressing his palm to the door and opening it.
"I'll get it oops!" said Hagrid who had dropped his pink, flowery umbrella. Harry stooped low to pick it up for Hagrid and neither of them spotted the goblin replacing the grubby package with one of his own in his pocket. Hagrid took the fake grubby package lying in the vault, and they climbed back into the cart and set off. Halfway through the trip back to the hall, Hagrid let out an exclamation.
"I've left my umbrella!" cried Hagrid. "Go back!"
"We cannot go backwards," said Ragnok. Hagrid however, remained unconvinced. He jumped out of the cart, tipping it in the process, and ran back towards vault 713. The goblin grumbled. Moments later Hagrid was grinning with his umbrella beside him.
"Lets go then," Hagrid said happily, picking up the real grubby package which had spilled out of Ragnok's pockets. The goblin seemed to have not noticed. They exited the bank, buying the rest of their supplies. Harry went to Flourish and Blotts to get his school books, Twinkle's Telescopes to get his astronomy equipment, the apothecary to get his potion supplies and finally, Madam Malkins, the robes shop. Hagrid said he would like a drink and they agreed to meet at Ollivander's the wandmaker. When Harry entered the shop he saw the owner, a plump lady in her forties already serving a blond haired boy that seemed like Harry's age.
"Hogwarts too," asked the lady. Harry nodded. "Wait here, and I'll get your robes," said the owner, pointing next to the boy. Harry went and set next to the boy, who was eyeing himself in the mirror in emerald robes.
"Draco Malfoy," he said. His tone was of superiority and arrogance. Harry decided to give himself a fake name.
"Harold Parker," said Harry, "but you can call me Harry."
"Well, Harry," said Draco, "what house do you think you want to be sorted?"
"Err, I dunno," said Harry, not having a clue what he was talking about.
"I'm hoping for Slytherin," said Draco. "I would die of shame if I was sorted into Gryffindor, wouldn't you?" Harry personally thought that he wouldn't like to be sorted in the same house as Draco even if he paid him. Thankfully, he was saved by Madam Malkins, who had all his robes for him. Harry hurriedly paid for his things and headed over to Ollivanders, seeing Hagrid waiting for him there. Harry and Hagrid entered the shop door, the door ringing as they did so. Harry coughed. They were in a dusty room, full of shelves containing boxes.
"Good day," a misty voice said behind them. Harry jumped. Ollivander had appeared out of nowhere.
"Hello, Mr. Ollivander," said Hagrid. Mr. Ollivander turned his gaze on Hagrid.
"Oak, Dragon Heartstring, 16 inches and surprisingly bendy," said Ollivander quietly. "It was snapped?"
"Yeah," said Hagrid. "But I've still got the pieces!" He finished brightly.
"But you don't use it though?" asked Ollivander, sternly.
"Err, no," Hagrid replied.
"Hmm," said Ollivander, staring very hard at Hagrid. Ollivander then explained to Harry how a wand worked. Then he asked Harry questions such as what hand he was and his height. Ollivander took out a wand from a box and told Harry to give it a wave. A bang echoed and several boxes went flying away. Ollivander snatched the wand away and gave him another one. On and on it went. Harry was starting to feel depressed but Ollivander seemed delighted.
"Tricky customer, eh?" He said. "I wonder, how about this one." Harry gave it a wave and felt a surge of warmth as golden sparks erupted from his wand. Hagrid cheered.
"Curious," murmured Ollivander. "Very curious indeed."
"What's curious, " asked Harry. Ollivander then explained about the twin cores and the fact that Harry and Voldemort shared same cores. Ollivander bowed them out of his shop, saying Harry was destined for great things. Hagrid told Harry that he would see him when he started school and dropped Harry of at the Dursleys who were peering out at them.
When much later Harry returned to the cupboard he was still elated. He was leaving the Dursleys! He was a wizard! He fell asleep, with a smile on his face.
Hope you enjoyed it! Harry will be sorted into Ravenclaw(obviously). Did you like the bit about the fake goblin, Ragnok? Hope you did. See you on the next chapter. Got freshly baked cookies waiting...
