Taking notice of Naruto's sullen face after taking on the seemingly still living Akatsuki, Hinata takes courage to approach her crush that night. Little does she know that Obito has business with the Jinchuuriki as well. Dragged into the tsukuyomi with the blonde shinobi, Hinata's counterpart takes her place, and it isn't long before chaos ensues. [RTN movie re-imagined/Hinata-centric] (T for cursing, like a lot, so be warned)
A/N: The jump from one universe to the other will be labeled as [Menma-verse] and [Naruto-verse].
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
-[Naruto-verse]-
Hinata stayed put as Tsunade had told her to. Though she was brash and rude on most occasions, she listened well to those she respected. There was also the bonus of being left alone as she needed the space to think.
Something was wrong. She didn't know what, but something was definitely wrong...loathe as she was to admit it, she was half way there to believing Neji wasn't the one who had knocked her out. A pervert he may be, but he wasn't that stupid. If that had been the purpose, he most definitely wouldn't have brought her here. Whether or not he had attempted to put his hands on her when she was unconscious was still debatable...but she could always deal with him later.
The issue that vexed her the most was who had the gall to attack her?!
Before she could rip her hair out in frustration, her previous company entered after a few knocks. Following behind them was a new guest. If she hadn't spoken Hinata wouldn't have recognized her.
"Hi Hinata. I'm here to help. I'd like to try a few jutsus to check your memories."
It was Ino, but in a completely different outfit. No, not just her attire, but the way she held herself up. Her shy friend had finally taken her advice about being more confident. Hinata could cry in pride. "Ino! You look great!"
Ino blushed at the compliment. "Um...Thank you Hinata." She'd been expecting a litter of curses thrown her way with the way the other three had warned her explicitly about Hinata's condition. Looking at Sakura's miffed expression through the corner of her eye, only made her hold her head up higher. "I'm only going to check your most recent memories, so don't worry too much."
Though she never liked anyone messing with her head, Hinata knew she needed her friend's help. "Do your thing."
A few minutes passed, and yet Ino could not find anything beyond what she'd already been told. They would have called her father, but Tsunade-sama believed Hinata would not react well to someone unfamiliar. Thankfully she was apparently on better terms with Hinata, but not so close that a mistake would be overlooked. When she had tried to go beyond the recent memories she was met with a strong wall.
The glare from Hinata quickly reminded Ino of the Hokage's warning. A shiver of fear ran through her. Ino couldn't help but let out an apology. "Sorry. I... that's a really strong defense you've got." She was scared but she still had a mission. If she wanted to help Hinata she needed to get more information; this was her clan's specialty after all.
"Well duh. You're the one who taught me."
"I... Me?" Ino was on friendly terms with Hinata, but regrettably she'd never gotten close enough for them to exchange ninjutsu. Turning to face the Hokage, Ino shook her head in denial.
Tsunade's face changed to a disconcerting face of deep contemplation. After a few long seconds she spoke. "Hinata, why don't you hang out with your friends, it may bring back some memories." She'd try to figure things out on her own in the meantime.
"Hai." Hinata was more than happy to accept. It was what she would've done regardless. There's something off and I'm gonna find out what.
-[Menma-verse]-
Hinata and Naruto hadn't known what they'd agreed to in the confusion of all the new information, until they found themselves in front of the doors to the bathhouse. Separated by a wall and soaking in the hot tub, Hinata tried to make sense of what had taken place so far.
Sasuke...Uchiha Sasuke had apparently never left Konoha in this alternate reality. When she saw the 'Avenger' before her, Hinata couldn't help checking on Naruto from the corner of her eye as she worried about how he was feeling about the whole thing. Caught up in worries about the stock-still shinobi, she hadn't noticed the attention upon herself.
"You look a little...different today Hinata." Chouji even with his ingenuity didn't quite know how to word it out. Not only her clothes, but her entire manner screamed a new personality.
"Ah! Hai. Ummm...I was training with Na...I mean Menma-kun?" She was pretty sure that was the name they kept using to refer to Naruto, but something seemed amiss. Hinata had momentarily been proud that she caught herself before she said Naruto's true name, but the wide-eyed stares of her "friends" gave her no confidence.
"-Kun?" This time it was Ino who spoke. It was no secret that she herself used honorifics to regard her friends, but Hinata? Her friend had never in all her life been so demure...it was almost wrong to even refer to Hinata by that word.
"Ha...hai..." HInata had messed up somehow. It seemed her counterpart was a bit more...casual(?).
Seeing the white-eyed kunoichi about to panic, Naruto jumped in. "There was a bit of an accident. I went too far and... I don't know, our memories are kind of...messed up."
"I don't think you can call this 'kind of messed up'. It's more like you killed her, and brought her back to life, but something went wrong...and I mean really wrong." Shikamaru with his inarticulate, bordering on rude, words didn't seem too worried about the accusation he was making. If anything, the shinobi looked excited at the possibility as he spoke with a smile. To make matters worse, he winked at Naruto with a thumbs-up; almost as if he'd done them all a favor.
Before they could delve into the mystery of "Who was Hyuuga Hinata (old & new)?" Lee had thankfully saved the two lost lambs with his dynamic entry. It was quite a relief to see their green-uniformed friend had not changed, and his nostalgic invitation to the bathhouse was received with positivity.
Currently sitting a few feet away from her female friends in the hot tub for the second time this week, Hinata figured this may be the time to figure 'herself' out. "Ano, what...what kind of a person was I?"
Ino seemed to forget her vocabulary at the sudden question. She didn't know what to believe with her friends sudden and complete change, but to word out the person that 'Hyuuga Hinata' used to be to this nice, quiet version of herself...what could she say? Should she lie? "Umm... You were a bit more...friendly ...and...and bold. Yes. Bold." She smiled as it seemed to relieve Hinata, but that relief didn't last too long.
"What she means to say is you were rude and egotistical." Sakura didn't mince her words. She was still sour about what had happened not too long before.
Ignoring the sudden tension, Tenten cut in. "Sakura's right, but Ino is right too." Tenten herself had only been introduced to the new Hyuuga Hinata a few moments ago. She had been wary, when Hinata had been so shocked to see her many wounds. The heiress looked about ready to cry as she offered her ointment (which looked handmade, but that was impossible...right?). She didn't even remember accepting it, as she just stared at this 'new Hinata'. "It's almost unbelievable how different you are."
"Yeah. You may have everyone else fooled, but you can't fool me. I know it's you in there." Sakura was not convinced. Hinata suddenly all nice, and Menma defending her like a white knight...well, everyone in their circle knew Menma was all about friendship in his quiet, stand-offish way, but she couldn't accept that the Hyuuga heiress could change. This was too good to be true. She probably used the opportunity to get the ball rolling her way. Look at her acting like she's trying to hide her chest! So, what if I have...I have...Grrrr... Sakura did not hide her dislike as she delve deeper into the hot water up to her glaring green eyes.
Hinata was wholly saddened by how antagonistic her relationship with Sakura was in this world, but before she could defend herself, she felt a pair of eyes staring at her. No. Not Sakura or her female company with her. Whoever was looking was beyond the wall that separated the men from the women. She moved a little to the right just to be sure and as she felt the stare follow her, Hinata rose.
Tenten was in the middle of telling Sakura that's not what she meant, but as the topic of their conversation stood to leave, all eyes turned to Hinata.
"I... I think we should leave." Before she got any confirmation, Hinata left with speed unlike any other. A part of her was relieved, and the other part horrified as she felt the focus follow her departing back until it was gone.
Not knowing the true reason for her sudden departure, the remaining could only suspect it was because of a certain pink-haired kunoichi. Ino was the first to react as she followed Hinata's footsteps, and Tenten soon followed, but not before reprimanding the only other person left in the tub. "Now look what you did."
Sakura couldn't help but be hurt by those words. The thought that maybe Hinata wasn't lying started to ring true.
Sakura started to get dressed next to Hinata who was patiently waiting by the exit with her back turned to the others out of modesty. She figured, if Hinata was acting all prim and proper for Menma, she'd have a difficult time pulling it off in front of anyone else with the personality she had before. Who knows, maybe this could work out in her favor? This 'new Hinata' could also have forgotten about her crush on Menma.
Approaching the Hyuuga heiress, Sakura said, "I'm sorry about before."
"What? Oh, it's alright. I understand completely."
Wow, no hesitation or a hint of a sneer. This was new. Sakura carefully asked, "Are you sure? You just ran out after what I said, so I thought..."
"Oh, no. I just thought I felt like there might have been someone peeping in, but I'm probably wro..."
CRASH
As if to mock her denial, someone joined them in the changing room by entry of the ceiling. The other girls screamed in unison while Hinata gasped in the familiarity of Lee's sudden presence. She had felt that sense of familiarity since they'd all come together to go to the bathhouse, but for this to also take place. She didn't know what it was, but it was something. Another piece to the puzzle.
As Sakura grabbed Lee to interrogate him, Tenten glared at the perpetrator, while Ino hid behind her. Hinata would have tried to help her friends try to come to a peaceful conclusion, if the other boys had not decided to join them.
Of course, they all came running with only a towel tied around the waist because of the urgency. And on cue, Hinata turned away. She'd seen it once before, but the sight of a nearly naked Naruto was not something she'd ever get used to.
Hinata stayed in the same position until she heard the commotion die down, and a bunch of footsteps run out the door. Letting the tension leave her body, Hinata turned at Naruto calling her name.
"Hinata. Are you okay?"
"Hai." Naruto hadn't noticed and she didn't have the heart to say it, but he was still only in that single measly towel. Opting instead to stare at the suddenly interesting spot on the ceiling, Hinata said, "This is exactly what happened the day before. That means...um I'm not sure what it means, yet but we should probably help Lee-kun."
"Yeah. He could be the same as the Lee back at home. Sasuke wasn't that different from the guy I knew."
"Really?"
"Yeah, so let's go before they all kill him." Naruto started to leave, Hinata's unmoving form stopped him. "Aren't you coming, Hinata?"
"I'll be right behind you. Please go on ahead."
"What's wrong?" He'd found it weird that she hadn't looked at him throughout their conversation, but it was starting to alarm him. Doing the opposite of what he'd been asked to do, Naruto stepped closer to Hinata in worry.
"Ano...Naruto-kun, you're not wearing any clothes..." Hinata wasn't looking at him but she knew she was blushing red.
"Oh! Right! Sorry!" Fleeing out of the woman's changing room, Hinata was finally left alone.
Naruto got between Sakura and Lee before his friend could greet death. "Hey guys, we should hear what Lee has to say in his defense."
Hinata quietly supported. "Hai, please give him a chance."
The gang eyed each other, before slowly nodding in acceptance, and it surprised Naruto for a moment. Had they always listened to him so well? He hadn't even finished his whole speech about them being friends and the need for trust, and yet they'd simply acceded his wish. Even Sakura seemed to back off quickly with his interference. Not sure what to make of boost of confidence from the trust they displayed, Naruto lightly hit Lee on the back so he'd step up and speak. "Go on Lee."
Apparently the light hit was not light enough as it had his bowl-haired friend falling. Naruto grabbed Lee's green uniform to stop his fall but the already teared fabric could not hold the weight of the falling body. Ripping to shreds it came forth that Lee had indeed been up to no good at the bathhouse. He'd been wearing some girl's underwear underneath.
Tenten's cried out in fury, "Lee! That...that's my underwear!"
Maybe it had been the continuous bombardment of surprises one after another, but at the moment Hinata keeled over.
"Hinata/Hinata-chan/Hinata-sama!"
- [Naruto-verse]-
This was not her world.
It was quite clear after one look at her so-called 'gang'. Sure, some of them looked the same, but for others the change was so drastic and too sudden.
It all made sense now; the voluptuous Hokage, the confident Ino...she suspected Neji might not be a pervert, and as for Sakura...she didn't know yet, but it seemed the Hinata whom had existed had been on much better terms with Haruno.
Scanning the other two members of Team Asuma first, she noticed Shikamaru looked uninterested and lazy as sh**, but a certain gleam of a brilliant mind could be detected. And Chouji, well...
"Chouji...you're fat!"
"What!"
The available members of Konoha 11 had gathered by the Hokage's urgent call. They'd each been warned not to look too shocked at the new Hinata, but it was hard not to. Though the make-up that had been on HInata had been washed off, her clothes had not been changed. Against Neji's plea, she'd also unzipped her sweater to show-off her...well-endowed figure. As they were having a hard time figuring out where to look, all movement stopped at her sudden outburst.
Everyone knew how sensitive Chouji was about his weight. They too had been thoroughly warned about her personality, but this was not amongst the scenarios anyone had cooked up in their heads. Even Shikamaru was sweating bullets thinking of how to alleviate the sudden pressure.
Hinata herself had been smiling when she'd commented on Chouji's new look, until he reacted badly to it. It seemed it was not the response she'd expected.
"The f*** are you getting angry about?"
The menacing look on her face was enough to kill all the anger, and incite fear. Chouji weakly replied, "Wh... what?"
"It's a compliment. You're proud of your clan's teachings aren't you?"
A bit more confidence came back with the confusing and yet encouraging words. "Yeah."
"Then you should be proud of the way you look."
"Yeah!"
Poking him on his chest, she firmly stated, "If anyone makes fun of you, you tell them to f*** off."
"O... okay..." Chouji didn't know the past Hinata too well as she hadn't stuck out too much, but he decided, he liked this one.
Who's next! Hinata was excited. Looking at her own teammates, she encircled each under one arm to bring them in for a hug. Kiba had the traditional Inuzuka face tattoos and his genuinely happy partner, Akamaru, next to him. Shino didn't look different but she'd seen a few of his trusty insects fly from him, to her and back. He was checking on her wellbeing using his clan's techniques. "Have I ever told you how proud of you guys I am?" Though she didn't know how skilled they were, she knew these two were far better than the sorry excuses her members were.
Kiba and Shino on the other hand, didn't seem to know what to do with their own bodies. Sure, they'd had group hugs before, but Hinata had never been so...unclothed. Add the fact that Neji was glaring holes into their faces, the men of Team 8 moved like broken robots, awkwardly laughing their stress away.
She knew it was a genjutsu. A powerful one at that. But there was no harm in enjoying this fake reality. Afterall, time didn't run the same course in a genjutsu and she was quite curious about what else was in store for her. She'd think about how to break out after she had a little fun.
If she had to guess, the genjutsu itself had to be the work of an Uchiha. The complexity of the genjutsu spoke volumes in the little she'd experienced so far. Maybe she'd even give him/her a pat on the back before she brought hell upon them. She didn't know who, but it most definitely wasn't her universe's Sasuke. That guy was weak as sh**. Speaking of the last Uchiha... "Where's Sasuke?"
Hinata's question was met with a deafening silence. The looks on their faces varied in many degrees, but it was obvious she'd addressed the biggest elephant in the room.
Ohhoho...interesting...
