Chapter Two
Age: Two
A ray of sunshine hitting on his face woke Tsuna up. He internally groaned, wanting to sleep more. But he has school and Reborn will kill him if he doesn't wake up soon.
Tsuna's eyes opened up when he remembered the hitman's situation. He almost shot up if he doesn't have something heavy on his chest. A little curious, he looked down to it. Only to see the cute face of his tutor with spiky hair and curly sideburns. The baby is using him as a bed, sleeping serenely. He held his hand up and caressed the infant's chubby cheeks. He traced the small nose from its bridge before curling one sideburn with his finger. Tsuna giggled before he gently took the hitman in his hands and place him on the bed, under the covers.
He quickly folded the futon and placed it with the blanket and pillow inside his closet. Humming while he changed, he checked Reborn's temperature and sighed in relief when he felt a small amount of heat. He's recovering. He slowly stood up, took the basin with him and out of the room. He looked at the clock, noting he has one hour more before he goes to school. Who knows why he's up this early when he's accustomed to running headlessly for school because of being late.
"Tsu-kun?" His mother called from the dining room kitchen. "Why are you up early?"
Tsuna laughed in uncertainty. "I don't know Kaasan. Maybe I'm that worried of Reborn?"
"How is he?" The brunette asked as she moved to the kitchen while the decimo went to the dining room.
"His fever went down a little. Hope you take care of him when I'm at school?" Tsuna asked, a little reluctant.
Nana smiled with understanding. "Of course, Tsu-kun. Leave everything to Kaasan!"
Tsuna smiled at the cheer before sitting on his usual spot. He was served with a meal before he went back to his room to brush his teeth and attempt to make Reborn drink some soup with bread.
"Reborn?" He called softly. Black orbs were revealed after their lids flattered open and hazily looked at him. "I have soup. I accompanied with bread. You want some?"
A whimper resounded.
"I know you're not well yet, but you're almost there. You're recovering." Tsuna assured as he arranged the tray in front of him before taking the infant. "Bear with me?"
"Hn."
Tsuna tucked a clothe underneath the baby's chin before he started to fed him. Reborn was obedient like yesterday. He even ate the bread soaked in soup. After the meal, Tsuna made him drink some water then the syrup before water again. After that, he put him on the bed again, under the covers where he should be warmed up.
Tsuna watched as the hitman close his eyes and sleep. He took his bag, bid a little farewell then slipped out.
Tsuna hesitated. He's just worried about Reborn. Not that his intuition is nagging at him. It's just him. So when break came, he rushed towards the reception where Hibari is and decided to knock, only to stop when he thought back of what he settled in. He even ditched Gokudera and Yamamoto because of this. He has to apologize later.
He bit his lower lip. How come he became so brazen enough to knock on the demon prefect who'll undeniably bite him to death for asking permission to go out on lunch? He can almost hear Reborn praising him for his stupidity. Gah. He even missed his tutor's sadistic streaks and sarcasm.
He shook his head and knocked otherwise. The door opened, making him jump a little, and was greeted by Kusakabe Tetsuya. Tsuna smiled a little, answered by a nod.
"I-Is Hibari there?" Tsuna asked, slapping himself mentally for stuttering on his first word.
"Yes."
"May I talk to him?"
Kusakabe opened the door and he invited himself.
"What is it, Little Animal?" Hibari asked, not even glancing at him from doing his paperworks.
"Can I go out when lunch comes? I need to head home. Kaasan needs me. I'll be here before it ends." Tsuna asked, back straight and in relax but alert poise. He can never let his guard down.
"The baby."
"Ah. Reborn is-" Tsuna thought of something other than sick, fatigue, tired. "-staying home."
"Hn."
Tsuna took the 'hn' as a yes, before nodding himself. "Thank you."
He hurriedly went out and ran towards his room just before the bell rang. When he sat, he glanced around and caught two worried gazes. Tsuna took his notebook, scratching something on two different papers, crumpled them just as the teacher entered and tossed them to Gokudera and Yamamoto.
He was fidgety as the time rolled on. He kept on glancing at the time, thinking it's so slow and wanting him to bolt out of the room. And he did when the bell rang. Gokudera cheered on him while Yamamoto called out a good luck. He pulled on his mittens while running towards the rooftop then popped a pill on his mouth and swallowed it. He shoots to the sky just as he went out of the door with hands as boosters, giving off sky flames.
He landed gracefully and went inside the house without missing a beat. The house is suspiciously quiet. Tsuna's intuition started to blare so he went for his room. Only to see the window he remembered closed to be open. Tsuna's eyes widened and looked at his bed, now empty. The brunet immediately went for the window and popped another pill on his mouth to activate his hyper dying will mode and flew to air.
Tsuna went as high as he could and looked around with clear head. Then he saw one black van with men surrounding it. With his intuition's affirmative, he went for it and zoomed inside the van. All men inside screamed at his sudden appearance. He took the chance to look around until he saw some kids sleeping at the back. He saw red when he saw Reborn in his orange blanket. So he charged at the kidnappers in record time.
Panting after making all men unconscious, he opened his phone and contacted Yamamoto. He told him what he stumbled upon and made his Rain report to Hibari. After that, he went to get Reborn from the van. He lightly bounced the infant after hearing a whimper. He cradled the hitman in his arms and walked towards his house.
"Stupid mafiosi trying to kidnap my tutor." Tsuna muttered under his breath as he hugged Reborn to his chest. "Served them right. Hope Hibari give them a hard beating. I'll tell him they kidnapped the others too so he becomes really mad."
Tsuna went inside his house and put Reborn on the bed again. He changed the hitman's dirty clothes before going down to heat up the remaining soup from that morning. Just as he always did, he woke up the baby, fed him then let him sleep. Tsuna smiled as he stared at Reborn's peaceful expression. After cleaning up and closing the window again, he bid the small hitman a farewell before running to Namimori Middle.
Tsuna bid goodbye to Gokudera and Yamamoto before running inside. He quickly greeted his Mom, who was cooking and ran towards his room, though crept inside so he won't wake up the sleeping hitman. Tsuna checked the temperature and sagged in relief after deeming the fever is dead. He picked up the infant's hand and held it tight, enough not to hurt him.
"Good job holding on, Reborn." He whispered before smiling. "Okay. I need to change and do my homework. Might as well do him a favor and be a little independent for once."
Reborn opened his eyes and checked himself. He feels fine. Light even. He then looked around to see his student diligently doing his homework on his table while muttering his answers and some questions related to goldfish and sharks. He sat up and stretched and searched for his partner Leon, who was dozing off on his hat. The chameleon opened an eye to see him before closing it again. Reborn shrugged. Usually, Leon will stick to him, but now he didn't. Maybe it was confident that Tsuna can take care of his master? Reborn shook his head before jumping towards the study table. Impossible.
Tsuna jumped a little and stared at him. He blinked several times before smiling. It made the hitman quirk a brow.
"What?" He asked.
"You grew!" Tsuna pointed out with an amazed expression.
"So?"
"Let's record it!" The brunet said as he took a marker from the pen holders and got up. "Come on. We need to record that."
"I am not taking part of it." Reborn refused.
"Eh? But won't it be nice to record it? It's like growing up again but with different memories." Tsuna said as he beckoned him to stand beside the doorjamb. "Come on."
"Dame-Tsuna, I don't want to."
"Oh come on. Please?" And Tsuna... Brave Tsuna cradled the hitman and made him stand on the post. "Woah. You're actually taller than me." The brunet said as he marked the height and hugged Reborn to his chest. "I mean I am short when I was three, but you're pretty tall. I wonder how tall would you be when you start to grow up."
"I'm gonna triple your punishment tomorrow." Reborn said in a muffled sound.
"No problemo." Tsuna replied as he got up, tossed the marker on the table before settling himself on the bed with the baby. "Let's sleep a little more, neh? I'm so tired already."
"Heh. What did you do?"
"Hunt down some kidnappers." Tsuna yawned and embraced the hitman after covering them with his blanket. "Later, Reborn."
"Hn."
