WAR OF THE WORLDS
CHAPTER 2
'Uhm …Victor? How do you think Bruce got all his money?' Barry asked in wonder. 'You'll get yours soon Barry,' victor responded detachedly. He was focused on something.
As the brain of the team,he was in charge of gathering all the information that was needed. But by the look on his face; he was clearly not getting what he wanted.
'If I had such money…maybe I'd be able to get a good lawyer…for my dad,' Barry said. Sorrow swam in his voice.
This caught victor's attention. He looked up at him. He felt somewhat sympathetic for him because he clearly understood how it felt to lose a father.
'Uh….it will be alright man,' he comforted. He could not give him a pat because; his touch was metallic. He was a machine. That hurt him.
It was all sadness and silence where they sat.
'Time to go lovebirds',' a voice said mockingly.
Barry and victor turned their heads; it was Arthur. Why did he have to be that sass? They thought.
'And do you really have to carry that around?' Barry responded with a question.
'Oh! This baby has to be with me all the time. The world's gone crazy…you don't know when danger's gonna strike' Arthur spoke. 'For example… danger like this!' He threw his trident towards Barry.
Barry's eyes shot wide open in shock. With his quick reflexes, he missed it and reached out his hand to grab it. But he ended up falling to the floor with it landing beside him.
'Why would you that?' victor shouted.
Arthur approached the groaning Barry on the floor.
'Apparently, you need a lesson on danger sensing,' he said and offered a hand to the poor guy. Helping him up.
'Why is that thing so heavy?' Barry complained while stroking his elbow hoping to relieve it from pain.
'Its ancient metal work,' the Atlantean answered. 'Anyways…time to go.' He walked out of the room.
Victor just scoffed.
ꚘꚘ
The morning sky was overcast with clouds and chilly winds were blowing. They walked on the tarred runway, to board the jet; each wearing a coat to protect them from the cold. Except for victor and Arthur. Well, one was a machine and the other spent most of his days in cold chilly waters of the sea.
A few minutes later, the jet departed. Alfred watched from a distance, until it disappeared from view. He sighed and walked away.
The journey had begun.
ꚘꚘ
On the jet, discussions and planning was what was going on. If their mission was going to be a success, they had to plan it nicely and carefully.
'Well…this is odd…,' victor said while he was on his computer.
'What is?' Diana asked.
'Well…I've searched every corner of the internet but I'm finding no records on tony stark,' he answered.
Bruce who was at the steering wheel heard that. His throat went dry. Why did that question have to come up that soon? He was not the one responsible for answering it. Where was the Martian? Dammit! Well…he could not run away at that moment so he put the auto pilot on and stood up from his seat. 'There might have been…one detail we forgot to mention…' he spoke.
There was squinting of eyes and raising of eyebrows. What was this now?
'Well…I don't know tony personally….I have actually never even seen him before…'
'So we don't even know this guy we are meeting? C'mon Bruce, you're better than this.' Clark said.
'As a good hero…' Bruce started.
'Oh forget it!' Clark interrupted rolling his eyes.
'No no lemme finish, as a good hero, one has to take up some responsibilities…' Bruce defended.
Everyone sat quietly; as if they were being entertained by the little wrangle between Bruce and Clark.
'Shall we stop being children?' a voice came in. Drawing everyone's attention.
It was the Martian.
'Huh! Took you long enough,' Bruce said in relief.
'Where did…he come from? Barry asked, with clear proof in his voice that he was spooked.
Who would not be spooked? He literally appeared from nowhere!
'He's alien. Barry' Arthur answered instead,' no offence' he added looking at the Martian.
'You cannot find tony anywhere in any databases because he is not from here…he is from another dimension…. of earth' the Martian said, as if he knew that, that information was the cause of what was going on.
'Another dimension? Of earth?' Clark asked, 'I thought those where just myths.'
'Actually…there is another dimension of the universe.' The Martian answered, 'Well, I met tony….on an expedition' he added; hesitatingly. 'A long time ago…'
He hesitated because there were other details he was hiding. But he chose not to mention them for a good reason.
'So you travel to this dimension any time you want?' Diana asked; clearly fascinated. Because she knew well about other dimensions because she was from one.
'No. this will be my second time…' he answered. 'The portal has been activated. Once we enter, there might be a possibility we might not return in time and that would be the end. So we have to make sure we do this quickly.'
That did not sit well with Arthur. Why did they have to go so far to look for someone? Was the so-called technology that complex; that no one in their world would not have it? But the Martian disagreed still; his decision stood. He insisted so much on doing this as if he had some hidden intentions.
They traveled for hours. It was then around noon. The atmosphere in the jet was intense. Everyone thinking about what was to happen. What they might give up. Arthur had a kingdom to go back to; and the woman he loved. This was the same case for Clark. They just got married and losing her again was not something he was willing to do. Barry still had the obligation to prove his father's innocence. But for Bruce, Diana and victor; they really had nothing to lose. Because they already lost. Making the world a better place at least filled up the emptiness they had inside.
….
'We are approaching the port site' the Martian announced. As the only one who knew the directions to their destination; he had taken over the steering wheel. 'Brace yourselves!' he shouted.
Everyone held tight, preparing for what was to happen. They traveled at a supersonic speed. Everything outside was brighter than day. It appeared that they were traveling through some kind of tunnel-like feature. Light rays moved in spirals creating echoes around the jet.
'Almost there!' he shouted.
And suddenly, everything went white. Until traces of trees and vegetation started appearing. Everyone walked to the front of the jet and looked through the windshield.
'Is this..?' Diana asked in wonder.
'Yes,' the Martian answered. 'Our next stop; new York.'
Stay tuned for the nextttt chapter!
