He died bravely

Here's another potential scene for His Dark Materials Season 3. If you don't want to read it because you haven't read the Amber Spyglass, that's alright. If you do, please let me know what you all thought.

Will took Lyra and Pan to the cave where Iorek Byrnison awaited them. The moment her eyes were laid on the bear who gave her Silvertongue, Lyra's heart jumped for joy. "Iorek!"

She rushed forward, hugging his face, shedding tears of delight. "I'm so happy to see you again!"

"I'm so relieved to see you too Lyra Silvertongue!"

Lyra let go his face and cupped its sides with her hands.

"Your friend here is very brave!" he acknowledged to Will. "I've never seen a kid as brave as him,"

Lyra twisted her head to look at Will. He smiled. She smiled back. So brightly, that she almost felt her heart thumping like thunderstrikes in her chest. "You really are as brave as Iorek Byrnison Will,"

She turned her attention back to Iorek. "What are you doing so far away from Svalbard Iorek?"

"Asriel's tear in the sky caused the mountains to melt and so the seals to deplete. I've had to move my bears so far away to find food,"

Another cursed problem my father has caused. Lyra cursed to herself.

"Your friend came here into our world and told me you needed help! We followed the river to this mountain valley and we found you!"

"And just in the nick of time," Will panted, stumbling forward. "Those Magisterium airships were going to kill you,"

Lyra's heart dropped like stone. "Kill me?" she felt just as shocked as she felt when she learnt her mother's husband tried to kill her. "Why?"

"I don't know," Will's face was filled with worry. "But what's important is you're safe," she clasped her shoulder. Lyra's face lit up a bit as she felt his protective care swooning over her like a wave of relief.

"Let's find Lee Scoresby. Serafina Pekala went to save him earlier Iorek. Hopefully she will have saved him in time and now they're somewhere safe hopefully waiting for us," her heart activated at the thought to reuniting with the Texan aeronaut. She was expecting a roar for joy from Iorek…but when she looked into his eyes again, she saw sadness.

"Iorek?" she touched his face.

"Lyra…Mr. Scoresby is dead,"

Lyra's heart dropped deeper. "What…"

"He was killed by soldiers. He died bravely,"

"No," Lyra's eyes watered. "It can't be true,"

"It is," Iorek's voice sounded strong, but his throat was hoarse. "Serafina Pekala told me herself. She didn't reach him in time,"

"No," Lyra couldn't take it. She couldn't hold back her tears. They rained down her face. First Roger. And now Lee.

She began to cry. She wrapped her arms around Iorek again as she started to sob. Will put a hand on her shoulder to offer comfort. He could tell how much Lee meant to her. His loss reminded him of his father's loss which made him water up too.

"His death was not in vain," Iorek said solemnly. "I shall avenge him," He took the children to a cave to take shelter from an approaching storm. He allowed the weeping lyra to lie again his warm fur. Will sat close by, warming up his hands, keeping the broken pieces of the Subtle knife close by.

"I'm so sorry for your loss guys," he uttered kindly.

Iorek looked up at him. "I'm so sorry for your loss too Will Parry,"

The boy glanced quite strangely at him. How did…?

"I can tell from your expression that you suffered a loss too. Whoever it is that you grieve for, their death will not be in vain either,"

Will's eyes held back his tears. He wanted to mourn. He wanted to weep. He wanted to express how much he wanted his father back. But no words or sobs came out.

"He was the closest thing I ever had to a real father," Lyra sobbed out for the first time after what seemed like hours. "Aside from you, Iorek and Coram. I never even got a chance to say goodbye to him. Like I couldn't even say goodbye to Roger,"

Will let a tear loose, seeing her so upset. He shuffled over to her. Iorek didn't growl. He allowed her to sit next to Lyra, against his fur. Her back was turned to him and Pan was cradled in her arms.

"It's my fault he's dead,"

"Lyra…" Will clasped her shoulder, earning her attention. "There's nothing you could have done,"

"Yeah but…if I hadn't of dragged them into this in the first place. He'd still be alive,"

"It was his choice to join in this fight," Iorek said. "I know he would be very proud of you right now this moment,"

Lyra snuffled. Will offered her a hug. She accepted it. "Thank you Will,"

Will rubbed circles on her back. He even wiped her tears away and she didn't fidget. Lyra couldn't help but feel like every time she felt his fingers touching her, her sorrows seemed to wither away more easily.

Even Pan could see that clearly.

The moment of mourning for such a valiant aeronaut lasted not for long. They had pressing issues to prepare. But whatever would come their way, they would triumph. They would avenge Lee's death. And John Parry's death too. The Magisterium were the true monsters. They would pay.
