Chapter 2 – Intermediate Developments
This is one of the parts I wrote very recently to talk about some events that happened after I started roleplaying, but before the next chapter was written.
The next few years didn't go all that well for Greva. Aside from being looked down upon by most other Charr for being a gladium, a lot of them also seemed of a similar mind as her old bandmates when it comes to the use of magic, as was still often associated with the Flame Legion. As such, the search for a warband, who accepted her, proved fruitless so far.
Eventually, she met another gladium, Razzle Whitenose. They did some mercenary work together and eventually decided to join a group called the Mercenaries of Tyria. As it happened, there was an Iron Legion warband associated with the Mercenaries. By some weird circumstance, it was also called the Veil warband, just like her old one. It was led by the newly appointed Legionnaire Rasrors Veilfire after most of his warband had been killed in action, so he was in dire need of new members.
Thankfully, despite being Iron, he didn't seem to have any problems with Greva's use of magic. While he did not understand how it worked, he saw the use it could provide. It might not be an Ash warband as she'd hoped for, but she'd take it. Thus it didn't take long for both Razzle and Greva to join.
For a time, things seemed to work out. Work was done with the Veil warband for the Legions and occasionally for the Mercenaries. Unfortunately, it was not to last. Vi Enfi, the leader of the Mercenaries of Tyria, suddenly disappeared, causing them to fall in disarray.
Rasrors made some attempts to keep everything from collapsing, but he didn't seem to put as much energy in it anymore and started slacking. Eventually, having had enough of it all, Greva called him unfit to be their legionnaire and challenged him for his rank. He agreed and a date was set, only for him to never show up again.
Greva eventually ended up becoming the legionnaire by default and tried to get the warband together again. Regrettably, their Centurion didn't seem to like an Ash minded warband in Iron led by an Ash minded Legionnaire. Instead of doing the sensible thing and transferring them over to Ash, he decided to be petty and sent each of the remaining bandmates to different places all over Tyria to be stationed there for a long time without letting Greva know where.
Greva was able to see between the lines though and recognised his move for what it was. The Veil warband was pretty much finished. Trying to keep it going with that Centurion blocking her every move would be an exercise in futility. As much as it rankled her, she decided to give him the win and resigned, becoming a gladium once more.
Thankfully, this time she didn't have to spend as much time as a gladium as soon after she found the Shattersteel Detachment. The Detachment was a relatively new experiment of the Legions. A collection of warbands from all three Legions working together. After joining them on a mission at the Steeleye Span in the Brand and being recognised by them for her talents, she joined the Ember warband, the lone Ash warband working within the Shattersteel Detachment, led by Galhearn Emberrock.
She finally had a warband again and. One who accepted her for who she was and what she could do. It also felt good to truly be part of Ash Legion once more. There was even a bandmate called Reishi Emberclaw, who looked an awful lot like herself.
The future looked bright. The name Veilclaw was discarded and replaced with a new one. She would now be known as Greva Emberbone.
