Chapter 2: The games
When Katniss and I got to the market we saw people busy doing their shopping. as Katniss and I were walking we saw some jelreay that was being sold by an old woman. When Katniss and I were next to go we were looked at the Jelreay.
"Katniss look at this" I said. "What did you find?" Katniss said. "some type of bird..." I said. a golden bird pin was what I was looking at. Katniss picked it up and looked at it. "What's this?" Katniss asked the woman. "It's a...mocking jay" She said.
"How much?" Katniss said. The woman smiled at us. "You keep it...it's yours. your friend can have one too" The woman said. "Wow, thank you" I said with a smile. Katniss took another one and gave it to me. She pinned the mocking jay,
pin on my shirt. She smiled. "It will protect you from harm" Katniss said. I smiled and hugged her. "Thank you" I said. "Let's go home now" Katniss said. "Okay" I said.
Katniss and I then headed home. when we got home. when we got home, I was greeted by my parents. "Hey Lana, just in time. we were about to head out to the,
hall of justice" Blake said. "Hall of justice?" I said. "It's where they are picking 2 people to compete in the games. haven't you heard?" Blake said. "Yeah, my friend Gale,
told me" I said. Weiss noticed the mocking jay pin I had on my shirt. "What's this?" Weiss said. "It's a mocking jay. Katniss said it will protect me from harm" I said.
"Oh wow, it's pretty" Weiss said. "Thanks, mother" I said. "We should get going" Ren said. "I'm gonna check and see if Prim's ready" Katniss said. "Okay" I said. "How much,
of a chance will I get picked...to be in the games?" I said. "Very low...but" Yang said. "But what?" I said. "If one of us does get picked...your gonna have to promise us,
that you won't volunteer to be in the games" Yang said. "but why? I would save your life" I said. "you don't understand, If you volunteer then it's a death sentence.
you wouldn't stand a chance against the other tributes" Adam said. "Adams right, please Lana...please do this for us. we don't want you hurt" Yang said. I thought for a second.
"I'm just worried...it's gonna be me that will be picked, or you guys or, Katniss, or Prim, or her mom" I said. "I don't think you will get picked. and if you do I will volunteer for you. I'm a good fighter you know" Adam said. "just whatever you do,
do not volunteer for any one of us. am I clear?" Ren said. I nodded. "Yes, dad" I said. "Were only doing this to protect you Lana, we don't want anything bad happining to you because we care about you" Jaune said.
a few minutes later Prim, Katniss, and Miss. Everdeen walked up to us. "Time to go" Miss. Everdeen said. we then left the house and we walked to the hall of justice. when we got to the hall of justice we saw lines of people who were getting their blood,
drawn for the randomization. Prim and I gasped when we saw the needles. Katniss, Yang, and Salem went over to comfort us. I am afraid of needles, so is Prim. Katniss,
was talking to Prim, while my wives, Yang, and Salem were talking to me. "Hey baby, shh it's okay" Yang said. "It's just gonna be a small prick and that's it" Salem said.
"I'm afraid of needles" I said through tears. "We all have to get it. I can get it with you if you want" Salem said. I nodded. "It's just gonna be for a second and then it's done.
remember your mocking jay?" Yang said. "Yeah" I said. Salem offered me her hand. I took her hand and we walked up to where we were getting our blood drawn.
when we were next in line Salem went first. then I went second. after we all got our blood drawn we lined up. I stood next to Katniss and Salem. all the girls were lined,
up in one side and the boys were lined up in the other side. A woman named Effie walked up the stage and got everyone's attention. "Welcome, welcome, welcome.
happy hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favor. now, before we begin we have a very special film brought to you all the way from the capitol" Effie said.
after the video was shown about how the hunger games worked Effie spoke up, "now, the time has come for us to select one courageous young man and woman,
Nfor the honor of representing District 12 of the 74th annual hunger games" Effie said. "As usual ladies first" Effie said. Effie then went over to the bowl and picked a card from it. she opened it up and read it. "Primrose Everdeen" She said. Katniss and I gasped.
"Don't" Salem said. Prim can't compete, she's too young. "Prim, Prim!" Katniss cried. Prim was walking up to the stage with the guards escorting her. "Prim!" I cried. Katniss and I quickly walked up to her but the guards stopped us.
my parents were yelling at me to come back but I ignored them. "No!" I cried. Katniss and I were trying to get past the guards. "I volenteer! I volenteer!" Katniss shouted. "I volunteer too!" I cried. "I volunteer as tribute" Katniss said. "I volenteer as tribute as well!"
I said. "Lana, no. get the hell back here now!" Weiss shouted at me. "No, mother!" I shouted. "I believe we have two volunteers Mr. Mayor" Effie said. After Katniss,
gave instructions to Prim, the guards escorted us to the stage. "District 12's very first volunteers. come on up darlings" Effie said. we then faced the crowd and,
stood next to Effie. I could tell my family was angry with me for breaking a promise but I didn't care. It was worth it for saving Prim's life. "what are your names?" Effie said.
"Katniss Everdeen" Katniss said. "Lana Xion Long" I said.
