A week had passed since Kyoko had learned she was pregnant. Makoto was back at the school after spending a week away aboard.

Kyoko knew she had to tell Makoto, but she was ill, and she hadn't gone to class since she learned she was pregnant. She had been stuck in bed pretty much most of the time, and she would only adventure out of her dorm room to grab something to eat.

Kyoko was lying on her bed, rubbing her belly as she feared for her future. She had no idea was she was going to do, and she wasn't ready to tell Makoto and seeing his reaction.

There was a knock on Kyoko's door, and she froze. "Is…is that Naegi?"

Kyoko slowly got up and walked over to the door, and slowly opened it. "Father?" She said, horrified. Jin was the last person she wanted to see right now.

"Hello Kyoko," Jin said with concern in his voice. "The teacher from your class has told me that you've been ill for the best part of a week. So I thought I come to check up on you."

"I'm fine," Kyoko lied. "A bug has brought me down, that's all. I feel good, and I will make class tomorrow."

"Hmm, very well, but I must admit, you looked horrified when you saw me. Your face always remains stoic. Are you sure you're ok?"

"Yes, I wasn't expecting to see you, that's all."

"Ok, but if you're still not 100%, do not hesitate to come to me, and I will take you to the hospital."

Kyoko wanted to close her eyes in shame, but she knew if she becomes uncharacteristic, then her father will know something is indeed wrong.

"I'm fine!" Kyoko said firmly. "Can you please leave? I was in the middle of reading a book."

"Ok, ok, I'm leaving," Jin said and walked away.

Kyoko closed the door and leaned her back against the door, and slid down. She began to shake her head in defeat.

Next day

Makoto walked into the class, and he was met with smiles from a few of his classmates.

"Naegi, my bro," Mondo said. "How was the holiday?"

"Owada is was great. Spending time with the family means a lot to me," Makoto replied.

"Did you met any hot birds?" Hiro asked.

Byakuya shook his head. "Yes, I'm sure he was looking at the sky a lot when he was in Australia."

"The sky?" Hiro said, rubbing his head. "Oh no, Togami, I meant did he see any good looking girls. I didn't think your that dumb."

"Dumb!" Byakuya snapped. "You're the dumb one! I was being sarcastic, you moron. Honestly, your only smart enough to clean someone's shoes. I might give you that job one day when I take over the family business."

"I see nothing has changed then?" Makoto sighed.

"Nope," Mondo laughed.

"Well, that's not true," Aoi said. "Kirigiri has been off for the past week."

"Has she?" Makoto replied. "Is she ok?"

"No, she has been ill. There was one-time last week where she ran out of the class holding her mouth."

"Oh," Makoto said, saddened. "I hope she is ok."

"She will be," Byakuya said with a grin. "I'm convinced she got sick because she was missing you."

"Missing me?" Makoto replied, confused. "How can she be missing me? We are only friends."

"Oh, come on, bro!" Mondo said. "She likes you. We can all see it."

"Well, of course, she likes me. We are friends," Makoto said.

"Oh my god! Naegi, are you dense!" Junko said as she facepalmed. "She wants your D!

Makoto's face grew red, and he quickly took to his seat.

Kyoko walked into the class and froze when she saw Makoto.

"Oh, look who finally came back," Byakuya said, looking at Kyoko. "It's telling that you were off sick, Kirigiri, but as soon as Makoto comes back, you show up to class. Look at you. Even the mere sight of Naegi has frozen you."

"Geez, knock it off, Togami," Junko groaned. "Stop acting like a dick."

"If I recalled seconds ago, you said that Kirigiri wants Makoto's D as you called it," Byakuya replied.

Kyoko closed her eyes. 'I can't be dealing with this.'

Sayaka walked into the class and saw Makoto. Then she turned to look at Kyoko, who had her eyes closed.

"Hey Kirigiri," Sayaka whispered, causing Kyoko to open her eyes. "You better tell him today."

"Don't worry, I'm planning to," Kyoko whispered back, then walked over to Makoto. "Hey, Naegi, see after class can you come back to my dorm room with me. We need to talk."

"Yeah, sure," Makoto smiled.

Kyoko knew that smile would soon be crushed. She wasn't ready nor happy to drop the biggest bombshell that Makoto would have received in his 18 years of living.

"Thank you," she said emotionless, and she headed to her desk.

Hours later

Today class had finished, and the students began to leave. Sayaka, who was still sitting at her desk, watched Makoto and Kyoko leave the room together, and she felt sorry for Makoto.

"Maizono," Byakuya said as he stood next to her. "You will know this better than anyone. But are Naegi and Kirigiri dating?"

"No," Sayaka replied. "Not that I'm aware. Why do you ask?"

"It's strange that when Naegi is on holiday, Kirigiri suddenly becomes ill. But as soon as Makoto comes back to class. Kirigiri can do the whole day."

"You are looking too deep into things," Sayaka said as she began to pack her things.

"Am I? Care to explain what you and Kirigiri were whispering about before she spoke to Naegi?"

"Women talk," Sayaka said bluntly.

"Hmm, I think there is more. Are you two secretly fighting for Naegi's heart?"

"No, don't be stupid," Sayaka said, annoyed. Then she stood up and left the room.

Byakuya knew something was off, and he was keen to find out what was going on.

Dorm area

Kyoko and Makoto reached the dorms and walked down a corridor until they reached Kyoko's room.

Kyoko froze with fear. How was she going to play this?

"Umm Kirigiri are you ok?" Makoto said.

"Huh?" Kyoko replied, snapping out of her thoughts.

"We reached the door, and you've frozen up, it seems like."

"Sorry, I've had a lot of things on my mind in the past week."

"Yeah, I heard you were ill. Are you ok?"

"Ask me that in five minutes," Kyoko said, shaking her head.

"Huh?" Makoto said, confused. "Kirigiri, are you sure you're ok? Are you in trouble or something?"

"Naegi, we are both in trouble."

"We?" Makoto said, tilting his head.

Kyoko opened the door, and she walked into the room with Makoto following her. "Naegi, please sit on the bed."

Makoto did as he was told and sat on the bed.

Kyoko closed the door, and she dropped her bag on the floor, and she began to rub her face with her gloved hands.

Makoto watched on, and he never saw Kyoko this emotionally open before.

Kyoko took her hands away. "Right here it goes," she whispered. Kyoko looked at Makoto. "I'm pregnant, Naegi, and you're the father."

Makoto looked at Kyoko for a few seconds before the realisation of Kyoko's words came crashing down on him. "Wait! P-Please, tell me that you're kidding on?"

"No, I'm not," Kyoko said softly.

"But h-how can this happen?" Makoto said as he began to panic. "We are o-only friends. We are not even dating. We had sex once."

"We were unlucky," Kyoko sighed.

Makoto put his hands on his head. "No, no, no, no, I can't believe this is happening!"

Kyoko walked over to the bed and sat down. "Naegi, you need to calm down. I wasn't on the pill, and you weren't wearing protection. We were careless, that is all."

"How are you remaining calm during a time like this?"

"Because I've had a full week to go over things," Kyoko said calmly.

"Kirigiri, I'm sorry," Makoto said as he began to cry in fear.

"I'm sorry as well."

"No, I'm sorry for destroying your life. You were planning to become the best detective ever, in my opinion. But I've screwed that up by putting a baby inside your belly."

Kyoko couldn't help but smile. Makoto always had the knack for making her smile in the darkest of times.

"Kirigiri, what are we going to do?" Makoto asked as he looked at her.

Seeing Makoto in tears broke Kyoko. "Well, we have three options."

"Three?" Makoto said, confused.

"Yes," Kyoko said as she slowly took hold of Makoto's hand and held it tightly. "The first option is I go for an abortion, and we never speak about this mess ever again."

Makoto didn't like that option. It was the quickest choice for sure, but he didn't enjoy the idea of killing an innocent life.

"The second choice is, I have the child but give up for adoption."

Makoto did like this option better, but at the same time, he wouldn't like the idea of someone else raising his child.

"The third and final option is, I have the child, and we raise it together," Kyoko said as she tried to read Makoto's face.

Makoto felt the final choice was the best one of the three. But he and Kyoko didn't have a job. How were they supposed to raise a child if they didn't have a house or any money?

"Kirigiri, is it ok if I come back to you tomorrow with my choice?" Makoto said, looking down at the floor.

"Yes, that is fine," Kyoko replied. "You don't need to tell me straight tomorrow morning before class starts. You can tell me after class tomorrow, ok?"

"Yeah, that is fine," Makoto said as she slowly got up and walked over to the door. "Before I go, have you pick one of the three options?"

"Not yet, but I will have my decision before the end of class tomorrow. Then, we can talk about it before coming to a final decision. This baby is life-changing. So I want to ensure we are on the same page."

"Oh, ok," Makoto said quietly, then he opened the door and walked out, closing the door behind him.

"Well, that went better than I thought," Kyoko sighed. "I know for a fact, Naegi won't pick option one. But I'm unsure what he will think is better between options two and three."

Kyoko began to rub her belly. "I will need to wait to see what he picks tomorrow."
