Ida's POV
Summer. Only the most magical time in a student's life. Unfortunately, mine is coming to an end. Not that I care anyway, summer is a time to spend with your family, but mine is never around so I usually just spend time with my friends. Recently, I've been spending more time with Sebastian Rogers. I look up from my phone after sending a text to him to spot Delilah through my window. The Millers' house is on one side of mine, and it has a window that lines up with Delilah's room. On the opposite side of my house, the Ellis' have a window that lines up with mine. I look back at Delilah. She is failing miserably at brushing through Rosy's knotted waves. Somehow, Rosy managed to get pine needles stuck in her hair. I shake my head and turn to the window that shows me Abby's room.
When I finally spot Abby, she and Willow are wide-eyed and staring at the moving van across the road. It's parked in the driveway of the house opposite mine. Boxes are lined at the front door, and I start to wonder if I should go help the newcomer unpack. I remember being new. It was anything but a fond experience. A rustling noise comes from behind the boxes, and a woman with a floral printed jumpsuit, a pink cardigan, and gold-rimmed glasses steps out into the open. She couldn't have been older than 45 and looked taller than I am, but she seemed pleasant enough. The tidiness of the woman made me wonder, what possibly had to have happened for her to move down to the middle of nowhere in the sweltering heat of Georgia? I brush away the thought and look at Abby again. She was still in awe of the newcomer. Suddenly, a boy around my age walks out of the house. The boy looks exhausted, and his clothes were rumpled beyond belief.
I turn back to Abby, rolling my eyes. That's what she was so shocked about. I'd be lying if I said the boy wouldn't be popular for his looks. Abby seems already to have fallen in love with this boy even though she hasn't met him. Truly, she wasn't that shallow. She just enjoyed having a little bit of look in the mix. I chuckled as she blushed a bright red when the boy turned to her window and waved, and then heard my phone buzz.
A text appeared on the screen. "Have you seen the new neighbor?"
I shake my head and reply back, "Yeah."
I look at her as she types back," I'm going to go meet him." I shake my head and laugh as I see her race out of her room with Willow in tow.
My phone buzzes again before I can set it back down, and I smile as I read the name across the top. I don't know why Sebastian is texting me so much, but I'm not against it. We message back and forth until eventually, he says goodbye to go have dinner. I know he has a big family with two sisters and two brothers, but it is rare that he gets to eat with all of them. I smile once more before putting my phone on my desk and laying on my bed.
