"So you know what I am?" I asked while I grabbed a hold of her arm to steady her from tripping over a tree root.

"A pain in my ass?" She cheekily replied. I just gave her the side eye even if I secretly liked her sassiness. I like me a woman with some fire—I wasn't about to tell her though. She rolled her eyes before speaking again.

"Yes, you are a vampire, a people eating one it seems. But spare me the show of telling me how much faster, stronger, and better you are than me. I already sat through that show once and it was more than enough."

"And who put this show on for you?" I asked as we came up to the side of the road. Being the gentleman that I am, I opened her door for her. What? I'm not always an asshole…

"Edward Cullen." She shrugged and went to get in the driver's side. Meanwhile, my mouth could catch flies.

"You're Edward's human!?" Fuck. I had heard bits and pieces about her from Jasper, though the last time it was when he was on his way to Phoenix. I offered to help but I was on the East coast at the time and Jasper claimed I wouldn't make it in time.

"Excuse me? His human? You make it sound like I was his pet." She bitched out while starting her truck and pulling onto the road.

"Well from the bits and pieces I've heard over the past year, yea." I casually said while rolling down the truck window. She smelled too damn good—even with the scent of the ocean mixed in. And there's really only one reason a vampire would keep their human—a human— and it ain't because of love.

"Who the fuck were you talking to?" She asked as she continued towards Forks.

"My good ol' friend, Jasper Whitlock—though I believe you know him as Jasper, Jazz hands, Hale."

"You know Jasper?" She asked, almost swerving off the road.

"Me and Jasper? Yea, we go back. Waaaaay back. Though last I heard, he was taking you to Phoenix to get you away from some tracker vamp." I heard her suck in a lungful of air at my revolution but I trudged on. "Jasper and I ain't especially close these days. We've drifted ever since he met his mate. But there ain't nothin' I wouldn't do for him." At that moment, the back of my neck began to tingle alerting me that something was a comin'. I closed my eyes as the minute amount of details came to me. When they were done, my eyes flew open and went to the girl in the driver's side. She was just pulling into what I assume was the driveway of her house.

She went to get out of the truck but I placed my hand on her arm. I felt the need to touch her. "Hey." I murmured softly—what the hell is wrong with me? She turned her head towards me with a confused look on her face. Yea, babe, I'm just as confused as you are.

"What, handsy?" She quirked a brow.

"Peter."

"Huh?" She huffed.

"Sugar, I swear that water did something to ya brains." I settled on sugar since she had yet to tell me her damn name and blue lips didn't fit anymore. I paused as we both got out of the truck and walked towards the front door. "My name is Peter. Peter Whitlock." I told her as I opened the door for her. We barely got in the door when I shot my arm out, stopping her from moving.

"W—what are you doing?" She stumbled. I placed my hand over her mouth and put a finger to my lips, shushing her.

"Seems Vicky has been here, relatively recent too." I sighed, I knew what we had to do and sugar lips wasn't gonna like it. I slid my hand that was over her mouth to caress her jawbone around to her neck to guide her in front of me. Unable to resist, I expanded my fingers into her hair at the base of her neck and tugged slightly, tipping her head up towards mine. My other hand somehow made itself comfortable on her hip. Huh.

"Sugar, I need you to listen to me and do exactly as I say or we are both going to die." She must have seen something in my eyes because—for once—she didn't argue. "I am going to accompany you upstairs and you need to pack a bag, as much as you can without it being completely noticeable. Then you need to write a note to your father. And then we need to leave."

"Peter—" She started but I tugged her hair a bit harder and pulled her closer. Our faces were so close; I could see the small splatter of freckles across her face in vivid detail.

"Hush. This is important." I took in an unnecessary breath—bad idea, I just inhaled a large gulp of her intoxicating scent. It overwhelmed me to the point of closing my eyes for a moment. When I opened them, I looked into her beautiful chocolate brown eyes.

"Look, you know how some vampires have gifts?" She nodded—well as much as she could with my hand wrapped in her hair. Her nose briefly brushed against mine. "Well I have what I like to call a non-gift. I call it my knower. I just know shit. I don't always get a lot of details but it only ever goes off when it's important and usually life threatening. And it's never wrong." I paused to stare deeper into her eyes. "Never."

We stood together, one hand in her hair and the other on her hip, for what seemed like forever. All I could smell was her woody lilac scent and could hear the thudding of her heart in her chest. I could see her pulse throbbing in her neck like a beacon to a tasty little morsel. I had to swallow a mouthful of venom. She took a deep breath and something passed through her eyes—though I wasn't quite certain what it was.

"Bella."

"Huh?"

"Really? Did the water do something to ya brains?" She drawled out with a smirk—well attempted to—in a Southern accent. It was cute. I gave her an answering smirk and reluctantly released my hand from her hair. I trailed the hand down her arm and gently tugged her towards the stairs—and she let me. I lead, I wasn't about to let her go up first in case there was somethin' up there. I could smell leech and wolf throughout the house. It was a nasty combination.

"Which one is yours?" I asked, though I didn't really need to. I just had to follow my nose to the room that was bathed from corner to corner in her scent. She pointed and we made her way into her room. She went to her closet, grabbed a bag, placed it on her bed, and began packing. My eyes found their way to a board on the wall that had a bunch of pictures attached to it. My eyes were drawn to a picture of Bella with a Native American boy; they looked to be on a beach with the ocean in the background. The boy had his arm around her shoulders and a grin on his face. She had a small smile as well but it didn't reach her eyes. I reached my fingers out to lightly touch the picture.

"Who's this?" I asked, briefly looking behind me. She paused what she was doing and her eyes trailed to the picture in question. I wasn't sure why but I didn't like the smile that came to her face.

"That's Jake." She answered before going back to packing.

"Really, that's all you're gonna give me?" I asked as I made my way over to the side of the bed that the bag wasn't on and made myself comfortable. It wasn't very often I just lay in a bed. I put my hands folded behind my head and my feet crossed at the ankles.

"Jake is my best friend—and he's—sort of a werewolf." I noticed her shoulders sagged at the revolution.

I ignored her shoulder sagging for now. "Good, we're going to need him." Her face scrunched up in confusion as she looked at me.

"Why?" She asked, sitting on the bed beside me. I felt the intense urge to pull her to lay with me but refrained from doing so. Weird.

"Because Vicky is still around and we are leaving. There's no sayin' that she'll follow us and we need someone to protect your father. Now, up ya go. We have to leave soon." I shooed her so she would start packing again. I fished my phone from my pocket and sent a text to Char. We were going to need a vehicle. I wasn't about to take that behemoth of a truck. Not only was it unreliable, but you might as well paint a giant red target on us if we were to take it.

She took a smaller bag and left the room to what appeared to be the bathroom. My mind was turnin', making a list of shit we would have to get for the human. Though how long she would remain human was up for debate. Of course she didn't know that or she wouldn't be acting so calm, cool, and collected. I'm also gonna have to hunt before we get to where we're goin'. That was going to present a problem. I really don't want to take her with me while I do that. Sure, she didn't seem fazed about my diet when she casually brought it up in the forest but there's a difference between knowing what one eats and seeing it happen.

She came back to the room and put the smaller bag into the bigger one on her bed and zipped it up before she went over to her desk and pulled out a piece of paper and a pen.

"I don't know what to tell my dad." She said and brought the pen top to her heart shaped mouth.

Hmmm. "Tell him you need time to yourself, to get yourself together and not to worry." Maybe she could call him once we get where we're going. Maybe.

She must have liked what I suggested because she scratched it down before coming over to the bed. My phone started to ring. It was Char. Great. I unnecessarily cleared my throat before putting the phone up to my ear.

"There a reason you couldn't just text, doll?" I asked and couldn't help but notice Sugar's reaction. Her body jolted and her eyes snapped to mine.

"You know how much I hate when you call me doll. What the hell, Pete?" Char said and I couldn't help the smirk that came to my face. I was still staring into Bella's eyes.

"Do you have what I need?" I was purposely being vague and apparently Bella didn't like that question either.

"Do I have what you need? What you need is a swift kick in the backside, that's what."

"Aww come on dolly, don't be like that. You know you love me." I had to hold in the chuckle as Bella jerked her bag onto her shoulder and started for the door. I rearranged the phone to my other ear and followed her. Nope, definitely was not checking out her ass on the way down the stairs. Nope, not at all. I must have been distracted because then I heard Char screeching my name through the phone.

"Peeeeeeeteyyyyyyy! Earth to Petey! Petey want a cracker?"

"Keep ya cowgirl hat on, now did ya get what I asked for? Is it ready?" I asked as Bella stuck the note on the fridge before she quickly grabbed a banana and started to eat it.

Really? A banana? Was she doing this on purpose? She had to be. She was lookin' me right in the eye while she shoved the banana deep in her mouth.

I blinked several times and pulled my attention—albeit reluctantly—to Char.

"Of course it's ready, Petey, have I ever let you down?"

"Not a once, doll." I told her. She gave me the information on where to pick up the vehicle then hung up. Looks like we've got a pit stop in Port Angeles.

"Well, Suga', ya ready to blow this popsicle stand?"

A/N: Peter was being a bit difficult for me; he took me in a bit of a different direction this chapter than I thought he would. He got rather chatty and didn't want to stop but I had to break the chapter somewhere. That Pesky Petey! We also had that surprise visit from Char. I love when the characters surprise me. Originally, when starting this story, I was going to keep it to Peter's POV, should that continue or do you want to hear from Bella as well? Reviews welcome!
