The Report

As he adjusted his tie, he combed his hair while his brother sat on his bed. Hikaru hummed to himself slightly, distracting himself from the announcement he was going to have.

Naoki struggled to tighten his tie, and Hikaru glanced over at him when he heard a frustrated grunt. Hikaru laughed as Naoki looked up at him.

"Don't laugh at me," Naoki murmured, and he took off the tie, "I'll go without one. I'm not even going to be on the Report." Naoki threw the tie in his hands.

"Don't be such a downer," Hikaru joked, yet Naoki didn't laugh. Hikaru sighed, "It was a joke, Na."

"You know I don't like that nickname." Naoki crossed his arms. Hikaru rolled his eyes slightly.

He walked over to the tie Naoki threw, bending down and picking it up. He took it in his hands and threw it back at Naoki's face. Surprisingly, Naoki caught the tie, glaring at Hikaru.

"You shouldn't be childish, Hikaru. You're going to be King soon." Naoki explained, "People look up to you to make the right decisions."

Hikaru groaned, letting his head fall backward, "I'm not King yet. I want to have fun before dad chains me down to the throne."

Naoki stood up from the bed, "Please, it'll be easy for you. Father never expected anything from you since you were always perfect to him."

Hikaru shook his head, "I'm not perfect. I don't think anyone could be perfect." Hikaru argued. Naoki shook his head.

"You don't understand." Naoki muttered to himself, "Good luck on the report." Naoki finished before Hikaru could say anything back. He exited the room quickly, leaving Hikaru alone in the quiet room. Hikaru sighed, turning back towards his mirror. He took his hand and ran his fingers through his hair.

His suit was dark gray with a black shirt, and he also had a red rose in the right pocket. He was second-guessing the rose but decided to leave his room before he could worry about it.

"Much better; you didn't dress in the dark this time," Simon joked. Hikaru glanced at him, chuckling slightly.

"See, I have style." Hikaru laughed as he walked down the stairs, Simon following him.

"Debatable," Simon muttered, and Hikaru elbowed him in the side of his chest.

"There you are; you're going to be late," Elyise stated. Hikaru looked at her, smirking ever so slightly.

"Oh, since when were you so worried about me?" Hikaru chuckled. Elyise rolled her eyes like she usually did to his flirting.

She ignored his statement, looking down at a clipboard that she always carried around with her, "First your father is going to go on and talk about normal country affairs, then we will have you on where you will make your announcement. Do you have a script?"

"Nah, I'll just wing it." Hikaru shrugged. Simon chuckled as Elyise glared at him, sighing as she flipped through papers on her clipboard.

"You're lucky I made you one." Elyise murmured as she handed him a single-paged paper, "Memorize it before you go on, okay?"

"You're so organized. That's what I love about you." Hikaru smirked. Elyise rolled her eyes once again.

"I love when you are not speaking," Elyise stated before she walked into the studio. Immediately, Hikaru was bombarded with journalists who were asking him a million questions per second.

He ignored them, walking with Simon, going to his seat, and crossing his legs. Naoki was sitting next to him, holding a book in his hand and reading it.

The studio was busy with people rushing to get the cameras on and live. Elyise was sitting in her big padded chair, fixing her posture as the King was sitting right across from her.

"On Air in three..." the camera-man stated. The studio grew silent as the camera-man took his fingers and counting down from three to one, then pointing at Elyise.

"Good Evening Illea, My name is Elyise Norston! I'm excited to present King Kurai as he brings us the newest kingdom affairs." Elyise was smiling like she usually did on camera.

Hikaru zoned out on his paper, reading over the lines Elyise wrote for him. Every once in a while, he would look up to see Naoki focused on the Report.

"Thank you so much, Your Majesty. I believe that is all the time we have together, but there is still a huge announcement. May Prince Hikaru come up to the stage?" Elyise spoke, and Hikaru almost forgot to get up and walk to her. Still, he got up, walking up to the stage as his father passed his left side. Once the camera was on him, he smiled and waved, skipping in his steps as he sat down across from Elyise.

"Thanks for having me, Elyise." He stated, just like his script told him to do. Elyise's smile got even bigger, which Hikaru didn't think was possible.

"It's a pleasure to talk to you, Prince Hikaru. I was surprised when you asked for a segment. Do you have something important to talk about?" Elyise asked, tilting her head. Of course, that was a lie. He didn't go to her.

"I do, Elyise. I have an announcement." Hikaru stated as he turned to the camera, "As many of you know, I am of age to marry."

Elyise chuckled slightly, "I was under the assumption you didn't want to marry, Your Highness."

Hikaru smiled, even though on the inside he felt like grimacing, "That's true, yet when I look at my circumstance, I have to wonder about the future, and when I'm going to be King, who would be beside me as a Queen."

"Do you have anyone in mind?" Elyise asked.

"I do not, well, not right now. That's why I wanted to come on and tell you, and the Kingdom, something I have decided." Hikaru paused for a dramatic effect, "I have decided to host a Selection."

Elyise's acting was excellent. She seemed surprised, even though she knew from the beginning, "A Selection? Prince Hikaru is hosting a Selection. I never thought I would be able to say that in my career!" Elyise joked.

Hikaru laughed, "Well, now you can. I'm hosting a Selection. Thirty-five girls between the ages of Eighteen and Twenty-Five will be Selected to come to the castle. They will be able to try for my hand in marriage."

That was the end of the script, so Hikaru smiled towards the camera.

"That's surprising, Your Highness. Do you know what you are looking for in a partner?" Elyise asked. Hikaru froze slightly, a smile still on his face. He didn't have a script.

"Uh, well. I guess I'm looking for someone who will be by my side." Hikaru answered simply. Elyise nodded slightly.

"This is huge news, Illea." She stated as she turned to the camera, "A Selection for Prince Hikaru! Letters will be sent to eligible ladies, which will be due within the next two weeks. Make sure to fill them out and turn them in at your local postal service. That's all for tonight, Illea. Goodnight!" Elyise smiled at the camera, where the red light flashed off.

"You absolute jerk!" Hikaru called out once the camera was off, "I didn't know you were going to ask that question!"

Elyise chuckled slightly, "It was on the back of your paper!"

Hikaru blinked, whispering, "There was a back?"

Elyise shook her head, standing up off of her chair, "No offense, Your Highness, but you are a moron."

Hikaru crossed his arms, standing up as well, "Hey, you love it," He smirked slightly.

Elyise shook her head once again, "I don't think you even understand the meaning of love, Your Highness."

Hikaru pouted jokingly, "Ouch."

Elyise rolled her eyes, a small smile on her face, "Goodnight." She stated as she went over to her camera-man, talking with him.

Hikaru put his hands in his pockets, walking over to his brother and father.

"Good job, Hikaru." His father praised. Hikaru smiled softly, nodding. His father walked off. Hikaru glanced at his brother, who was watching the King walk off.

"Yeah, good job," Naoki murmured.

"Hey, don't be sad. I'm sure you'll get your Selection too." Hikaru took his fist and punched Naoki's shoulder lightly. Naoki took his arm and rubbed his shoulder.

"If you think that is the reason I'm upset, you don't know me at all," Naoki stated, turning on his heels and walking out of the studio. Hikaru frowned slightly, watching his brother leave once again.
