Chapter II: Roots

For a while, Lucifer walked the hellscape alone...well...not technically...the devil had awoken on the warm red sand, confused, stressed, home-sick, but warm and alive. She had decided to simply lay there, mainly on her back, staring up at the sky, until she could be bothered to move again. What was she to do anyway? Try to break back into Heaven? Beg on the doorstep to Jehovah? Incite a coup? It was hopeless...

However...it wasn't her own bother that had caused to her rise from that sandy bed. The devil had tried her best to dry both herself and her clothes, trying her best to dust as much of the red sand off of her clothes as she could. After the woman was satisfied with her outfit, she had then simply sat down on a rock slightly above the sandy beach, watching the dark waves lap gently against the coastline.

Depression had been consuming her ever since she had become conscious, the numbness making her care for nothing...not even her own safety. As the despair set in, as the loneliness began eating away at what was left off her pure and holy soul, a distant sound could be heard coming from the heart of the mainland hellscape. The devil's ear pricked up...something...something massive was approaching. It seemed at first that there was a slight earthquake underway, the very ground quaking, but it was not being caused by tectonics...a giant was approaching, the sand vibrating after each thud of footfall, the devil's bloodshot eyes had been full of tears all morning, now they watched as miniature sand dunes began moving near her bare feet, crumbling and flattening. She had to move...

A fresh hit of adrenaline hit the devil and her own self-preservation finally kicked in once again, the woman turning to look behind her, watching as a lumbering, unholy behemoth was thundering in her direction. Lucifer thought she was being hunted, deciding it best to run off to the right of the shoreline, heading for the only hiding spot she could see...and within distance... A small ridgeline, the different levels where black rock met red sand was where she sprinted towards, the devil praying that the giant would pass her by...or at least...grant her a swift...painless death.

"Fu-Fu" she panted, taking just a short minute to get out of sight, running barefoot through the sand, sinking ever further into the beach as she ran, the soft beach was not ideal to travel across in a hurry. Thankfully, the fallen angel was able to hide before the creature saw her, besides it wasn't actively look her...it wasn't hungry...yet. The Rebellious Angel hid for a few seconds, making sure she was hidden, gasping for breath silently after that brief flailing sprint, her body trembling with fear. Eventually, once she had composed herself, steadying her breathing, the woman peeked out over the top of the ridgeline. Only the top of her head, the blue and black hair and eyes were visible, observing this stunning entity, this powerful...Titan...A Hell Titan. These creatures were as tall as a small skyscraper, at least fifty storeys...and this one was just a young adult...

It had appeared suddenly from between the distant mountains, smashing past any obstacle in its path like it was nothing, seeking the open spaces of the demonic shoreline, but the unnatural brute was strangely humanoid, as if someone had stripped the skin off of a burly angel body and only the muscles were exposed. It had no genitalia, no distinguishing body features, however it had giant hands with large, sharpened, black nails acting as claws. The head on the other hand was not humanoid, this particular Titan had a Sabertooth Tiger's skull for a head. Even though this creature would not come into existence on Earth for millions if not billions of more years to come, these primordial beings would have different skulls of fauna that were yet to exist. Almost as if someone drew inspiration from one of their earlier creations...

Protruding from this creature's blackened skull were enormous horns, similar to that of an Elk, the giant antlers were a magnificent sight to behold, stretching another few storeys above its head. There were no eyes, no nose, no mouth on this creature, yet the creature could be seen inhaling and exhaling, its chest rising and falling rapidly, the thing appeared to have just finished a long journey. Whilst there were no facial features on this hideous thing, it still acted like a person, breathing, walking, surveying its surroundings. Not quite demonic in the traditional sense...but truly unnatural...an abomination to gaze upon.

Lucifer didn't know what to do, the devil was terrified...yet intrigued...watching as this creature destroyed the ground beneath its feet, crushing the hellscape as he slowed his journey towards the oceans edge. The Titan actually passed over where she was hiding, the ground beneath her trembling violently, the woman had to avoid falling debris that no longer clung to the two enormous human feet that flew past. It had been right ontop of her...

Fortunately the devil had made herself scarce enough, the Titan was not on alert to the ant beneath it, simply wishing to seek solace, infact when it came to the waters edge it paused briefly, its feet sinking slowly into the sand, churning the mounds of red dust between its toes. A comforting feeling...The Sabertooth Titan had its back to where the devil was currently hiding, not sensing the woman in the slightest. The devil only wished she could stop her heart from beating so loudly, it was almost beating out of her chest...she felt like it might turn around at any moment upon hearing her fear.

So being the only thing she could do, the woman simply just watched eagerly, wishing to observe this new threat, but daring not to breathe. To her surprise, after a few minutes of observing its surroundings, glancing at both sides of the beach, it let out a large sigh from between its bare teeth and where its nose would be and began to wade out into the blackened sea, initially the water only came up to its ankle's. Was it...bathing? Going for a swim? However, once it had reached the underwater shelf, its depth unknown, the giant willingly plunged itself into the abyss, submerging its entire body under the water, those antlers slipping quietly into the dark void. "What...the fuck" she said aloud to herself, again filling up the deafening silence she hated so much. The woman was too scared to move from her position, simply waiting and watching, looking at the surface of the ocean to see if the beast would return. Bubbles of oxygen were reaching the surface, the ripples and waves the Titan produced were now calming, but it showed no signs of resurfacing.

The fact that it didn't resurface...the fact that it had been fully submerged, up to its fucking antlers...a height of almost fifty storeys being hidden beneath the surface...it terrified her...Her fight to swim to the surface, how when she looked down and saw nothing...and now this Titan had disappeared entirely from sight, her Thalassophobia was justified...Lucy shuddered at the thought of what else was lurking down at the bottom of this demonic ocean, what worse creatures had been born down there in the dark, twisted beings, the stuff of nightmares...

It seemed she wasn't the only thing down here...

After what felt like an eternity, the devil finally revealed herself, moving away from where she had been hiding and heading up through the destruction the Titan's feet had caused to the dark landscape, sand and blackened rubble mixed into one. The woman first climbed to the top of the next ridgeline surveying where the Titan had come from, wondering where she will go from here...obviously away from that thing...

The devil had three choices: she could go right down the beach, follow it to the grey headland, climb it and get a lay of the land from there. She could go left down the red beach and follow the flat surface, keeping the ocean on her left and hoping to see if the land got more traversable the further she went. Or...she could head through the mountains, following the path the Titan had carved and hope that beyond the barrier of infinite mountains there was a different, less hostile environment...she wouldn't make it five minutes out there...how could she navigate such terrain?

Fortunately there was a bonus to this realm, despite its menacing creatures, rugged terrain and stifling temperatures, there was no day and night cycle. The 'sky' seemed to be a filled with a constant twilight, a red hue painted across the sky as if there was a perpetual sun setting...not that she knew what that would look like anyway. In Heaven, it had been perpetually daytime, as if a star was constantly orbiting the holy realm, when in reality they were not in close proximity to any star or solar system. Lucifer didn't know how the air above her head was lit, but in time she would understand that distant sulfur fires and the constantly erupting volcanoes scattered throughout Hell were eternally producing light for the realm.

"What would Beel do? Where would she go?" the devil now asked herself, weighing up the options layed out for her. The best bet was probably to- a sudden chill went down the devil's spine. She froze on the spot as the gurgling and bubbling sound of water had reached her ears...it was too late. As Lucifer slowly turned, the massive creature was already surfacing, the black water up to its neck, its head facing forward...fixed on her position.

"Oh fuck!" the devil screamed, running as fast as she could towards the mountains, running anywhere...she had to escape! As she darted across the loose rubble of the hellscape, the woman struggled to get any traction, boulders and erratic chunks of the earth lay in her way. Lucifer ran but didn't get any further than a few hundred yards before the Titan had risen out of the sea and had begun trudging the way it had come. It was upon her in an instant...there was a weird foul stench of fish emanating from the creature. The shadow of the giant engulfed the pitiful being, there was no escape...A strange deep guttural moan was heard as the woman struggled to flee, it wasn't a menacing one, it was more of a...was that curiosity she heard?

It doesn't matter...the Titan's wet hand had now descended and was upon her, encasing the woman's entire body, crushing her in its palm...but with surprising care. It lifted her up, the devil being suffocated more than crushed as she rose to a blinding height in a matter of seconds. The dark red skin was all she could see. Eventually, when the Titan had raised its balled fist up to its head, eye level with itself, it opened its right hand to be flat. Lucifer was on her left side, cowering, her head hidden under her two bare hands, wrapped in the fetal position. The devil was waiting for gravity to flip and for her to fall into the gapping maw of this abomination, to be grinded into nothing but bone and sinew. She waited for the slow, painful death, the death she knew was destined to die...However...it didn't come to that...

As the silence dragged, seconds turning to minutes, Lucifer began to wonder why she was still alive...she began to wonder why this thing was silently chewing. Reluctantly she opened her frightened light blue eyes, the woman looked straight into the eye right eye socket of the Titan, the thing had its hand very close to its face, examining her closely. The Hell Titan was blowing hot, thick air out from between its sharp teeth, its blackened jaw opening and closing slowly around...was that a tentacle between its teeth? It swallowed down whatever it had been chewing and let loose a deep, mighty roar, projecting saliva and spit at this new creature it had not seen before. "P-P-Please d-d-don't eat me" she whispered after her eardrums had stopped ringing, panic and terror filled her entire being. She never thought she would die this way...It looked like the monster wanted to see what its next course was before eating it, to tease its prey into thinking tha-.

Another curious groan escaped the creature, it slowly brought its left hand up and gently poked the devil's back with his index fingers pointed fingernail. It then tilted its head sideways for a moment before returning to its neutral posture. What? The devil after being prodded a few times deciding to get up off of her side and kneel, screaming at the nightmare, "HEY! STOP THAT!". The woman pushing with all her might against the fingernail, the Titan seemingly understood the meaning behind her action, retracting his left hand, it moving back to his side, by his left hip.

Lucifer, upon realising she wasn't going to be this creatures breakfast decided to take a stand, shouting as loud as she could, trying to act as intimidating as possible, a new found confidence...in the face of death. "YOU HEAR ME? STOP! PUT ME DOWN AT ONCE!" she commanded, her body rigid, her fists clenched and down near her thighs, leaning forward slightly, posing...just like the time when no one was listening to her during the Helltaker's fight with Judgement...

To this, the Hell Titan let loose another groan, this one more sad than curious, it was going to be difficult communicating between these two...The devil and the Titan. It was still curious as to what this little person was, why they were dressed in such a colour it had never seen before, shades of white and gold. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you!" the woman realising that she didn't want to offend this beast so soon, she could yet meet a swift number of deaths at its hands; it could drop her from this height, it could crush her, it could eat her, hell it could throw her back into Heaven...

The creature finally teared its gaze away from the insect standing on the palm of its hand, looking off to the right of where they were currently stood, in the distant a deep roar was heard, Lucifer didn't hear it...but the Titan sure did. "C-Can you put me down?!" the devil repeated.

Her demonic Titan looked back at the delicate being within its hand before looking off again to where it had heard the roar. "Is something wrong?!" she asked, gazing in wonder at this gentle giant, staring in awe at its skull and antlers, what looked like clumps of seaweed were dangling off of the sharpest parts. "Are you going to let me go?" the devil walked to the edge of the monster's palm, near its wrist. After a brief pause of the creature staring into the distance, Lucifer followed where it was looking, not seeing anything of interest. It could see further than she could...After a few awkward minutes of silence, it turned to face her and let out a huff of hot air, blowing her blue and blackened mess of hair backwards all at once, Lucifer closed her eyes reflexively, wiping the giant globs of spit off of her face. "Pheh! We're gonna have to get you something for that bad breath!" the Rebellious angel joked to suppress her own nerves.

She hadn't had anyone to talk to since she had arrived...

Once the truly nauseating fishy vapors reached her, Lucifer gagged at the foul stench that emanated from this behemoth's mouth, almost vomiting, coughing furiously and spitting off of the Titan's hand. Centuries of digested prey had come wafting out from the gut of this beast, hundreds of slain enemies and their decrepit, rotting compositions had flooded her nostrils. Suddenly, after Lucifer was away from the edge of its hand, the primordial creature began moving, causing the angel to fall over onto her backside into the centre of its palm. "Hey! What are you doing?!" the woman shouted back, confused as to why he was moving, her hands behind her back, palms flat, catching her from falling onto her back completely. "Where are you going?! Aren't you going to put me down?!" she shouted slightly over the deafening sound of his footsteps stomping against the hellscape.

The Hell Titan simply shook its head and pointed with his left hand at the way it had come, gesturing to the path it had forged. "I-Is that where we are going?" the shy woman simply accepting this as her current situation, feeling quite powerless to do...well anything...the blue and black haired devil now hugging her knees to her chest. Amazingly, the lumbering animal actually nodded in response to her question.

"O-Okay. I-I trust you" the woman smiling, surprised that the Titan was able to understand her. She hadn't been expecting to make a friend in this...this Hell...she had been referring to this place as such frequently now...'Hell'..it seemed fitting.

"You see I'm from up there" the fallen angel pointing at the blackened sky, the Titan raised its ugly head and looked at the rocky roof beyond Hell's sky, turning back to look at the woman with a confused look. "I know. It's complicated, it's a place called Heaven. I'm an angel you see- well..." the woman looked ashamed down at the floor of the creature's blackened hand, "-not anymore. I am apart of a-" the devil continued her rant, happy to have someone to listen to her.

The two had been journeying across the Hellscape for a few hours now, Lucifer had been unable to track the flow of time down here anymore, the distance they had travelled also now escaped her comprehension. This place seemed...infinite...there was no end to it, the sea had stretched beyond the horizon and now the rough rocky terrain also stretched eternal. They had been talking- well...she had been talking...it had been listening...about where she was from, trying her best to describe what she was and what she was doing here. Now, after a while of talking and receiving simple grunts, nods and shakes of the head the devil had fallen silent. Lucy now decided to stand, moving to the edge of its palm, near its fingers, thankfully the Titan had risen the tips of its finger so she wouldn't fall, Lucifer hugged the tip of the middle one, peering past the large brown nail. They had passed mountain ranges, volcanoes, caverns, bottomless pits, the realm of Hell passing them by at an unbelievable speed as the Titan marched.

However, Lucifer had noticed that as they progressed deeper into the twisted realm, the terrain was becoming flatter, the relief of the land becoming more gentle. From what she could tell, this thing was taking her to a safer environment and as this theory developed...another one soon followed. All around them, the surrounding terrain showed evidence of conflict, mountains had been torn down, enormous footprints could be seen, silouhettes of humongous bodies in the rock and recently solidified magma...and of course the colossal bones of ancient ones long dead were scattered here and there. Signs of other beings roaming the hellscape...bigger than her new friend...

It was as if divine intervention...again...had allowed her to meet the only friendly Hell Titan as soon as she had entered this realm, there was much worse that could have found her first...

"You still haven't told me where we are going? Can't you speak? Or do we have to play the guessing game all the time?" the devil turned her head to look behind at her new friend, turning away again when she knew she wasn't getting an answer. The Titan simply huffed, grunting and pointing into the distance, the direction they had been walking for a while now. "I know, I know! But what is over there?!" the devil growing impatient, this lack of communication was not helping. To this the creature held up its left hand, it was flat at first, then clenching it into a fist before pointing directly at her. It was some elaborate code, a sign language of sorts...she would learn it in time...she would learn everything about this realm given enough time...

"I don't know what that means. Is it safe?" the woman turning again to look at its response. This time it nodded, again confirming that it understood what she was saying. "Well...thats good at least. I-I'm Lucifer b-by the way...W-What's your name?" the fallen angel timidly asked, realising she hadn't asked anything about her new friend, being quite selfish. The woman received no reply.

"What would you like me to call you then?" she asked another question, but again either the creature had no identification or simply did not want to reply. "What about...BFG? Short for big friendly giant?", the Titan shook its head silently. "Okaaay...What about biggie?" the devil now just saying the first ideas that came into her head. The creature carrying her shook its head more swiftly, implying dislike. "How about Phoebe- wait, are you a man or a woman? N-No offense but I can't tell" the devil again turning to look at her protector with a smile, the woman seeing it shake its head at the name suggestion. "What? No to Phoebe? So you are a man?" Lucifer trying to interpret what the Hell Titan was saying, she waited to see him slowly nod before turning to face forward again.

"Alright, so guy names then...Hmm, let me think...what about Hyperion? These are some of the names of the 'Titans' they taught us about which the humans will come to be believe as a religion. Do you like them?" the woman received another deep grunt, the Hell Titan carrying her in between the passage of two steep mountains that were taller than itself. "What are Humans? We'll get to that later! First we got to come up with a name for you", Lucifer couldn't stand the silence, feeling as if she had to continually keep speaking to fill the void. "Well...okay what about-", this back and forth of name suggestions continued for an hour or so.

"Well what about Humo like Humongous?" the devil finally asked, this naming process had been going on for a while now, the woman was unable to come up with any suitable names that this male Titan liked. This one was the worst name of the bunch by far, Lucifer truly scraping the bottom of the barrel now, like she was naming a stuffed animal. Amazingly, out of all the names, some average, some badass, some demonic, the Titan liked this one the most, nodding his head enthusiastically...like a dog. "Really?! Fucking Humo? What a dumb name...but its your choice after-all", the devil sighing before again turning around and looking at the terrain they were now entering.

The two of them had reached a completely open landscape, super-flat terrain stretched out before them, there were no mountains here, simply a scattering of spiked rock outcrops stretching to a storey high. The Hell Titan was the tallest thing for miles around, the distant mountain range was long behind them now, the home of the Titans was thousands of leagues away...At least this place seemed more easily navigable, both for herself and Humo. In the distance, on the rim of the flat horizon, Lucifer saw something barely come into view, it was looming in the distance, a strange black structure of some-sort. The fallen angel had to squint her eyes...but it didn't help much, it looked like it was in ruin.

As they approached from the East, to their right and to the South of the ruins position, an active volcano was currently spewing its molten guts into the darkened sky, they were heading towards a dark, menacing cloud, showering ash over the land. To their left, to the North of the ruins, in the far distance, a large black lake stretched out into the great beyond, hidden behind rolling hills of twisted grassland. At the moment, the land consisted of caverns and ravines ready to snap up any unwary or inexperienced travellers. Thankfully Humo was experienced, he had roamed Hell since the dawn of time, the Titan knew that despite its size, the land did end...eventually...the land gave way to sea, sea gave way to the void, and the void gave way to nothingness...the end of creation...

"So Humo...that where we are going?" Lucifer pointed at the ruins in the distance, the woman had noticed a change in his pace, either he was tiring or finding the best place to drop her off. The Titan shook his head, looking past the devil, past his hand, looking instead at the terrain beneath his feet. "It looks like an awfully big place, is that where you live?" she asked again, not expecting a proper answer, noticing her friend had now stopped glancing at the floor beneath them and was beginning to look around frantically, as if pinpointing where a sound was emanating from. "I-Is something wrong?" Lucifer became distressed upon seeing him ignoring her, the behemoth was now looking off into the distance once again. Unknown to Lucifer, Humo was hearing the all familiar roar of his kind...and it was coming closer by the minute...

The devil abruptly started to descend, the Hell Titan making huffing noises, grunts of panic, keeping his friend safe in the palm of his hand. Humo was now knelt on the hellscape, his right knee digging into the rock, his left knee pointing upwards, hidden beneath the hill to their right. When his right hand met the ground he released Lucifer, checking that she was unharmed, the big brute unable to hear her muffled protests from within the palm of his hand. "What are you doing?! Why are you putting me down?!" the devil demanded answers as soon as she stood not understanding the severity of their situation, the possible danger that was fast approaching.

Humo didn't have time to play the guessing game, he simply pointed with his long, bony right finger at this tiny being, then pointing at the ruined city in the distance, implying that she made her way there...it was the safest place for her. "You want me to go to that place? That city? That's miles away! Can't you carry me a little further?" she begged, Humo wasn't looking at her, peering to his right over the crest of the hill, his 'ears' listening, but to answer her question he simply shook his head. "Why not?!" she shouted up at him, anger again in her voice. Her Titan did not reply, again watching and listening for any threats lurking on the horizon, holding his breath.

"Aren't you coming with me?! Please!" again she had resorted to begging, the anger within her had soon faded...she didn't want to be alone again. Sadly, Humo lowered his head back down, hidden behind the hill again, shaking his head at her question, beginning another complex pattern of sign language. First he pointed to Lucifer, then pointed to where he had been looking over the hill, shaking his head afterwards, he closed both of his two fists and slowly banged them against one other, the knuckles making a loud thud upon impact. "Don't go that way?" the devil look at the crest of the hill that he could see over, she could not, "Why?", to this Humo answered by pointing at his chest, his right index finger tapping against his right pectoral. "Because of you?!".

The Titan shook his head, this time pointing to his skull then antlers, Lucifer was the one who did not reply this time, lost in the confusion of this message. A frustrated Humo then gestured to himself frantically, pointing hard into his own chest, pointing again into the distance, then the last gesture was a line drawn from the left of his neck to the right. Now it made sense...these slow gestures had taken a few minutes to be performed, even longer to be properly understood. "There is something else out there isn't there? Something not as friendly as you" the fallen angel finally put the clues together, Humo nodded sadly. A distant rumbling could be heard, a muffled roaring following, a sound even the devil heard.

"Are they calling to you?" the devil had to know, trying her best to learn anything about this hostile environment from the only sapient being she had seen, the poor angel had truly been thrown head first into the deep end. Humo hesitated, almost as if unsure of how to respond, but the male Titan eventually nodded, turning away as if embarrassed or ashamed at the fact he couldn't help her anymore.

"I guess this is goodbye then?" the devil almost felt like tearing up, just as soon as she had made a new friend in this realm they were leaving her...just like everybody else in her life..."W-Will I ever see you again?" her bottom lip trembling slightly, but to her surprise the Titan nodded, moving to stand at his full height. "I'll m-miss you", the woman whispered to herself, sadly watching as her only companion, her only friend in this Hell began to leave her. It was strange to think that in the few hours they had come to know each other that the devil had grown quite attached to her personal Titan, he could protect them both from anything this realm threw at her.

So the fallen angel simply watched as Humo clambered over a steep hill half his height and disappeared over it, giving her one last look and a slight wave before disappearing out of sight, Lucifer tried her best to keep the tears at bay, but was ultimately overcome with sadness, yet again she had been abandoned...another lesson to be learned.

The tears fell en-mass as she begrudgingly forced herself forward, her legs carrying her numb body and spirit across the hellscape in the direction of the ruins. The giant city was at least a two day hike for her little legs, Humo probably could have got her there in five minutes. Lucifer silently cried as she walked, her tears giving the crusted ground barely a droplet of moisture, it was the most it had received in millennia. The devil may not show it at first, but she cared greatly about her fashion and appearance, but now her clothes, hair and skin were becoming filthy, drenched in sweat, Titan saliva and blackened by the sea she had entered through, only adding further to her distress.

She was lost once again, cast adrift into the horror show that was her reality, a world of perpetual loneliness, abandoned, outcast, exiled...the devil kicked a large rounded stone as she walked, striking it harder and harder each time it lay in wait on her path. It wouldn't be long before you give up, lay down and die...her mind gently whispered to her, "You're probably right" she sighed, not evening trying to block out these suicidal thoughts. Humo's company had silenced them for a time, but not that she was out in the open, exposed, on her own, the whispers of her mind had advanced.

"I miss B".

Lucifer's first 'night' in Hell would be her worst, the woman, after having walked for another four hours on her own eventually gave up, she felt she was getting no closer to her destination. Thankfully, there was a cave hidden at the foot of a small rocky spire, the spire itself was attached to a previously destroyed mountain. A small amount of rubble, mostly likely from that past mountain had formed at the entrance, but the woman did something that had amazed herself.

A small boulder was the main obstacle, preventing the refugee from entering, however, as soon as she tried to move it, the chunk of rock had actually moved slightly, it only took a little more might and the obstacle was easily rolled away. Set in motion for a few rotations before coming still a few yards away, fine red dust flying everywhere, making her cough for a moment. "What? Since when did-" Lucifer had said looking at her disgusting golden gloves, she had manifested them to keep her hands warm as the temperature had substantially dropped in this new environment, the gloves were now a horrible shade of brown. Since when did she have such strength?

However, not fully understanding this new found power...well...power(s)...she just hadn't learnt about the rest yet...she decided to throw herself down, leaning against one of the far cave walls. It seemed that there had been a plant or tree of some sort that used to inhabitant this cave, the tips of a large system of roots were crawling out from the back of the cave, exposing the dead earth as they had once burrowed into it, now simply withering away. Lucifer didn't know what they were, but she had a feeling they were some type of vegetation...she had skipped the biology seminar...

While it was cosy in this damp, dark cave, it was freezing and barely any light filtered in past the rubble blockade. Humo didn't happen to mention the colder temperatures in this part of the realm. The fallen angel after sitting for a few quiet minutes now began to shiver, trying her best to hide deeper into the warmth of her dirty white coat. "Fu-For a place that is constantly hot, it sure gets cold quickly doesn't it?" she spoke to herself, wondering how else she could get warm. The devil daren't leave the cave now, even if the outside was warmer, it was the only shelter she had and listening to Humo's advice, she would stay out of sight and away from...whatever was over there.

If only she could make a fire at the click of fingers, that would be ideal right about now...the devil sighed, unable to do anything but listen to the deafening silence. The whispers in her mind beginning anew, taunting her, teasing her, mocking her...But then Lucifer heard the distant sound of dripping water coming from deeper within the cave, through a narrow passage where giant root system originated from, blocking the outside word off, it was such a small gap between the roots and the rock that no one, not even a rat could fit through it. It was a rythmatic sound, the drop of water reaching her ears every few seconds, the only noise she could hear other than her own muscles spasming in the cold and the insanity gnawing away at her mind.

It was a soothing sound, Lucifer welcomed it, she welcomed anything to fill the silence, the dripping of water was slowly lulling her to fall asleep, but she was far from being drowsy. In a fit of what could only be described as insanity and pure boredom, Lucifer began clicking her numb fingers in rhythm with the tune of the deep cave. Her right middle fingers rubbing against her thumb, slapping against the skin beneath her thumb, her heavy eyelids gradually falling shut. She was going to die here...probably right here in this cave, just wasting away...would she make it to the ruined city? What if there were other things living there? Things that didn't want her there...

Lucifer sighed, rubbing the back of her head against the rock, trying to get comfortable, her thick mess of hair was the only thing giving her some form of comfort, acting as a pillow. Outside of the cave entrance, the woman heard a distant rumbling, thinking at first it was Humo returning but knowing it was not.

She was so alone...she missed having someone to talk too...she missed having someone hold her...someone- too- There was burning sensation on the tip of her right index finger and thumb, the devil's eyes shot open and gasped as a small fire had started on both. "Ah! What the fuck?!" the devil waving her hand and blowing the fire out, unaware of what clicking would do, a simple form of wielding Hell Energy. Once the small inferno was out, the devil noticed that after taking off her grubby gloves, that both the previously golden material and her own skin were unharmed. "This day keeps getting weirder and weirder", the fallen angel having so many questions but no answers. So, naturally, she tried it again, clicking harder and harder until another light was struck. A small, but yet substantial orange fire on the tips of her fingers...literally.

The Rebellious angel decided to experiment with this new found powers, twisting the fire between her fingers, learning she could extinguish and re-ignite it simply by thinking the command, eventually the devil was confident enough to cast the fire onto the ground and too her surprise it ignited the patch of rock in front. Lucifer would come to learn that most of the hellscape was very flammable, vapours that escaped from the centre of the realm could be easily seen throughout Hell's natural landscape, the rocks composition having been formed around these natural vapours.

Somehow, she now had an infinite source of warmth, her prayers had actually been answered..."Well...maybe it's all coming up Lucifer" she smirked, taking off her gloves and warming her bare hands against the naked flame on the ground, it growing in size substantial. However, the devil could control the size of her campfire with her mind, avoiding it from spreading any further in the small cave she called home.

It was something...it was progress, one baby step at a time...If she could conjure fire, maybe she could wield it defensively, but that was a matter for the next day...she would practice while on her journey tomorrow. While her angelic powers seemed redundant, it appeared that she had some strange new pyromancy, it was primitive but at least she had it. The smirk stayed on the devil's pale face for quite a while, the warmth returning to her body making her very satisfied with what she had achieved today, pushing the depression, the loneliness and sadness away just a little longer.

Suddenly, there was a sound at the front of the cave, feet shuffling and coming to an abrupt stop near the entrance, Lucy turned and stood in one swift movement, readying herself to fight whatever unholy creature had crawled its way into her home. The woman's fists were clenched, a slumbering fire hidden behind her light blue eyes, conflict flowed through her blood...she just never knew it until recently...but again, thankfully a friend had found her...more so in fact...

"Oh Lucy, Lucy, Lucy, what have you have gotten us into?" Beelzebub smirked, leaning against the right wall of the cave's entrance, the flame being reflected in those hungry light blue eyes.

"B-B? I'm not d-dreaming...am I?" a fatigued and confused Lucifer let down her guard, slowly approaching what she thought was an illusion...a mirage. She wouldn't be surprised if Hell had a creature that morphed into the form of the ones you knew, the devil hesitated from relaxing.

"In the flesh...I see you found us a nice place to settle" her partner teased gesturing to the cave, the Manipulative Angel gave the cave a once over with her eyes before glancing at the devil, "And I see you've given yourself a new look, one that screams 'please help me'. Sound about right?" that mischievous smirk that Lucifer loved was painted across the other angel's face. It was Beelzebub alright...

"Y-You have no idea" Lucifer's voice trembled.

Finally...she wasn't alone...

Short and sweet, flashbacks to the most important times in Lucifer's life.
