Rose's POV
I woke up, stretching and yawning. I smiled as I remembered last night. I had danced with the most gorgeous man in the universe, Jack Dawson.

I went to the breakfast table, where Cal sat.

"I hoped you would come to me last night."

"I was tired."

"Your exertions below decks were no doubt exhausting."

"I see you had that undertaker of a manservant follow me. How typical."

"You will never behave like that again, Rose. Do you understand?"

"I'm not a foreman in one of your mills that you can command. I'm your fiancée."

"My fian... my fiancée!" He upended the table out of the way in a fit of rage. "Yes, you are... and my wife. My wife in practice, if not yet by law. You will honor me the way a wife is required to honor her husband. Because I will not be made out a fool, Rose. Is this in any way unclear?"

I shook my head.

"No."

"Good. Excuse me."

He got up and left.

I went below the decks to see Jack, but he was nowhere to be found. Then I noticed his friends, Tommy and Fabrizio. I ran up to them.

"Have either of you seen Jack?"

"Not since last night," replied Tommy.

I paused for a moment.

I snapped my fingers.

"That's it! He must have gotten up early and went to the upper decks to go see me! He must be looking for me right now."

I went back up and ran all over the place calling his name, but got no response.

I started to panic. Had Jack just been a figment of my imagination?

No, I thought. If he were, Tommy and Fabrizio would have had no idea who I was talking about.

Jack's POV

I heard Rose calling my name.

"Rose!" I wanted to call back. But I was gagged, so all that came out was a quiet "Mmm!"

Later, Cal opened the closet door.

I was frightened.

"Calm yourself, Dawson. I'm not going to kill you. You would be dead right now if I hadn't had Mister Lovejoy inject you with a revival drug."

Then what are you planning to do with me?

"You are not going to steal my fiancée from me. Do you understand?"

Steal? What is she, a piece of jewelry?

"I will untie you if you promise to not speak to Rose again. Deal?"

He removed the gag from my mouth.

"Never," I said.

Cal angrily put the gag back on my mouth and closed the door.

Rose's POV

I was out of breath. Was he avoiding me? Had he never actually loved me, and was just pretending to because he felt sorry for me? The thought broke my heart. But I still loved him. I let out a sigh and went to sing the hymn.
