Bonus Episode #2 – Rise from the Ashes: 2nd Trial

Time: February 23, 9:51 AM

Location: District Court

Next stop, the court building itself, the District Court for Phoenix Wright was ready to defend Lana Skye in trial on the murder of Bruce Goodman 'with this lover Cassie Freeman by his side' to solve this murder mystery case on who really killed the detective. Ema, who's Lana's younger sister helps them out as well since yesterday...from them to go up against Edgeworth again, seeing Meekins being hurt a lot by his words from the report to be unable to give up, and Jake Marshall to be a patrol man for a reason 'and no longer a detective'; something was up to not only have a spy amongst them but also some clues left out to be very useful to them.

Cassie: This will be a lot to go over.

Phoenix: Hopefully to give us another day to find something.

Cassie: Same here.

Entering inside of the building for Lana sees them, while sitting down with a cop watching closely on her.

Lana: Good morning, Mr. Wright and Ms. Freeman.

Still a bit of a cold person from the Lana said those words to them.

Phoenix: Good morning, Ms. Skye.

Lana: How did the investigation go?

Cassie: I think it went well so far. (For what we could've gathered, some might not be good.)

Maybe during the trial today to change things around 'like they always do'.

Phoenix: Our investigation...? Not brilliant.

Lana: Don't let this case distract you two, this won't last for much longer.

Phoenix: Maybe...

It's hard for someone who wants to be in jail right away.

Cassie: Hey come on, don't say that Lana.

The cop looks at his watch to point out to Lana, it was time.

Bailiff: Madame.

Lana: I think the trial's going to start now. I hope you two will not get your hopes up too much.

Cassie: Then we'll see.

It was time to get things started...Going inside the court room with everything all set - Lana sitting down, the audiences to be watching, juries on standby, the Judge 'same as always', Edgeworth on his side, and both Phoenix and Cassie all set to go. Same with Ema to look at her sister coming in, all Lana does was ignore her.

Time: February 23, 10:00 AM

Location: District Court - Courtroom No. 9

Cassie: (Talk about giving a cold shoulder...)

But during the trial, Lana will probably come through her heartless ways.

Ema: How is she?

Phoenix: What? You haven't talk to her?

Seems like it to be having trouble getting along now, to still care deep down.

Cassie: You shouldn't do such a thing, Ema. She's still your sister.

Ema: I did try, but I couldn't get anything out of her.

Cassie: Oh...Never mind then.

Yeah, so in trial will be better than what Ema could've done the best she could. So no harm done.

Phoenix: Well other than that...She seems to be calm and a bit upsetting as ever.

Ema: Yep, that's Lana for you...But what about us? Mr. Wright, are we ready?

All they can try to do today was to find any leaks to show the truth on something, anything really.

Cassie: Well we should be ready for this.

Phoenix: We're about to find out then. (A contradiction for me and Cassie to discover for Lana's sake.)

It's time for the trial to begin as the Judge hits his gavel to calm everyone down in the room.

*ALL RISE!*

Judge: Let's begin. The court is now in session for the trial of Ms. Lana Skye.

From there - Phoenix and Edgeworth say their introduction before they can begin, along with Cassie as well.

Phoenix: The defense is ready, Your Honor.

Edgeworth: The prosecution has been ready for a while, Your Honor.

Cassie: And Phoenix's partner and lover is ready, Your Honor.

Judge: Very well, Mr. Edgeworth, your opening statement please.

It was time to hear about the case of Edgeworth to think of Lana murdering Bruce, but didn't for others to hear about it still.

Edgeworth: Chief Prosecutor Lana Skye has committed an unpardonable crime. Not only this, but she was rash enough to commit it in the Prosecutor's Office lot! However, she will now pay for her rashness with her life. There was a witness to her crime...A "professional" witness!

Judge: Well then, call your first witness, Mr. Edgeworth!

Edgeworth: The prosecution calls its first witness, Ms. Angel Starr, to the stand.

Another new character makes the stands who call the police to have Lana arrested. Angel Starr, who works at the parking lot of the Prosecutor's Building to make lunches for the detectives, lawyers, and security guards. She is also known as the Cough-Up Queen. Don't let her innocent looks fool you either on one hair side on her other face because when she turns it to show her true self. Both sweet and sour like her foods can sometimes be.

Cassie: I already hate her.

Phoenix: From the way she appears to be, Cassie?

Cassie: No, that one was April May. This Angel person may appear pretty, but I think she's serious too. I sense something big she's hiding to really hate Lana for some reason.

Phoenix: You think so?

Ema: Your instinct of feeling things out are for nothing, Cassie. We can get through this one.

If anything, they'll proceed with the answers while questioning Angel in any way.

Phoenix: Then let's make her talk.

Cassie: Right, the same always. (Note to self, never be fool by self appearances alone by anyone.)

Noted, and now it's time to get started.

Edgeworth: Will the witness state her name and profession?

Angel: Anyone hungry?

Nice enough to make plenty of food for everyone to eat their own meals, with different designs from it to be very good.

Judge: Mmmm...Tasty!

Even the Judge loves it too much.

Edgeworth: Name and profession...?

Angel: Oh yes, I shall speak. My name is Angel Starr and I'm a lunch maker at the Prosecutor Office Building itself, as you can all plainly see.

Cassie: Fine, the food's good. (I'm only eating because I got a bit hungry.)

With that said and done, it was time to hear Angel's testimony next.

Edgeworth: Very well, would the witness testify on what you saw from Ms. Skye from the day of the murder?

Angel: With pleasure.

It was time to hear Angel out for Cassie and Phoenix listens to her well.

Phoenix and Cassie: Here we go.

Witness Testimony

Angel: Now if you look at the map of the entire parking lot, there's a connection from the upper floor of the Prosecutor's building. You see? From the office room there, and from down below had the many parking spots where those who work there to park their cars at. Now the murder was committed from down below on one of the floors. The one which is highlighted in the floor plain on this side as well. See? The car belongs to Mr. Edgeworth himself.

She had to bring it up, didn't she? Like Edgeworth had to hear about it again.

Edgeworth: That is true...

Continuing on...

Angel: The killer stabbed the victim with the knife, allowing me to discover the dead body of Detective Bruce Goodman from within Mr Edgeworth's vehicle. Fortunately, there was a witness at hand...myself. And the witness being Lana Skye was then arrested right away. as I always thought she would be all along. I knew this day would come.

And that's about it. Wait...Angel knew about one day of Lana to do something this bad? What was she, psychic or something?

Judge: Well, it sure does sound like an up and shut case to me. What do you feel, Mr. Wright? And you, Ms. Freeman?

Only one way to find out more about it somehow.

Phoenix: I can't agree on principle, Your Honor.

Cassie: Yeah, same here.

Angel: Most of the lawyers have trouble to accept some things.

Ouch, she just jump the gun to say on how she thinks. So what about them?

Cassie: Accept some things? Well excuse me!

Edgeworth: Witness, please tell us what you've seen at the scene of the crime.

Noting goes on what comes out of Angel's mouth, heating her sounds like this woman really hates Lana a lot.

Angel: Somehow, I always knew a day like this would come. I was on my way to deliver a lunchbox to my boyfriend...When I sensed something... perhaps it was my finely-honed detective instincts working. Then, through a wire fence, I saw the chief prosecutor standing next to a garish car. The chief prosecutor was holding a knife in her right hand...Then, she thrust the pointy tip of the knife into Detective Goodman's chest!

Well, she said on what she thought to feel out to stop something that just went down. To stopping Lana in any way and still working around the clock.

Judge: Then Defense and Ms. Freeman may cross-examination with the witness

Then here we go!

Cross-Examination

Phoenix: (Something she said just now doesn't make any sense.) But how? Ms. Starr, you said you had a feeling from Ms. Skye committing and crime how? You were serving lunch to the co-workers weren't you?

Cassie: And if anyone's confused, Angel doesn't have any boyfriend like them. She's just being friendly to call them that when making some food.

Anyways, back to the question...How did Angel know about Lana committing a crime?

Angel: How? I always suspect on a prosecutors own crime, for their methods are always ugly and twisted.

Well, not all of them like Edgeworth's making a few new changes.

Edgeworth: The lunch lady's opinion is no doubtingly noted on her point of view.

Okay...Nothing was making any sense right now for Ema could tell something was up on what Angel was really saying.

Ema: Ms. Starr, do you have anything against prosecutors?

Cassie: Yeah, what did one of them do to you. Was a guy who broke your heart?

No, but there was far from it to make a joke as Angel gave out her answers to them.

Angel: I felt I've found my dream job when I became a detective. And if I haven't been laid off by those prosecutors, I would still be one.

Is that so...? It sucks, but sometimes it's life which cannot be helped if it does happen. And from Angel's words, I guess that's another reason why she really hates Lana. But another good reason why Phoenix and Cassie found something on what she just said.

Phoenix: *HOLD IT!* You just shown on many reason why you hate prosecutors.

Cassie: We kind of heard you too loud and clear. (In other words, she hates Lana for that reason for losing her spot as a detective. That's why she works there still to make lunch and still get information all sneaky-like.)

She did to be no turning back from it at all. And was it against the rules of those who were kicked out to still be working as a detective?

Phoenix: As Edgeworth sometimes says...Ergo! And you're a liar.

From her bright side, just now went to her dark side.

Angel: Watch your mouth, Nicky! If my testimony isn't enough for you or the two girls, then perhaps I can interest you all with some evidences.

Pulling out of her jacket, was another folder of some kind with tons of paper inside of it.

Cassie: Huh?! Can she do that?! (I can understand why they call her the Cough-Up Queen here.)

Opening the folder, it shows a security photo of Lana! Opening up Edgeworth truck of the car to be doing something. Shocking, huh? The others to see as another evidences - for the Judge and Edgeworth get a copy as well.

Angel: The moment this part happen, I had to take a photo of it right away.

Edgeworth: This is the first time I'm seeing this!

Someone wasn't to happen to see the photo at all.

Angel: You think I would show you, a prosecutor? Think again. And young lady, look at this page of the court rule boo before judging me.

Seeing it for one to be real.

Cassie: Oh, here's one. Those who still helps out the Prosecutor Building as a detective or cop, are allow to show any evidences of the crime if you have legal rights and access to them in any way. She's right...

Judge: Yes, and this right here is no doubt the defend herself. Th court accepts this as evidences.

Seems like it was now to Edgeworth still had second thoughts about this whole thing.

Edgeworth: So this was taken from the moment the crime accrued?

Angel: Indeed. One moment by looking at someone and the photo, will show there's no shadow of a doubt of her committing this horrible crime like this one. And to have Detective Goodman murdered of all people.

Edgeworth: Witness, kindly described on what you saw with your own eyes than what you've thought.

They might as well hear her say something during the time next with her one eyes than her own detective thoughts. She's a hard nut to crack here.

Angel: Never underestimate my detective skills for nothing. Ms Skye had her attentions of killing Detective Goodman. That's why she called him up at the prosecutor's office and I'm sure she had a grudge against the victim too. Nothing else can be explain otherwise to have a mad woman to stabbing the detective in the chest again and again.

Even so, was it all true for Lana to have some hatred on Bruce for a reason?

Phoenix: None of this is making any sense.

Cassie: Tell me about it, we need more answers.

And they might with Edgeworth objecting to this 'to helping them out a little' while still doing his job. Phoenix almost did, but I think Edgeworth save him the trouble.

Edgeworth: *OBJECTION!* I should already explains this, but there was no way you couldn't see that!

Phoenix: (Right...Way to take my spotlight, Edgeworth, but thanks. I was about to say the same thing.)

So how could Angel see the murder happening on where she was at? Huh...?

Angel: What are you talking about?

Edgeworth: If you look at the autopsy report, the victim had died from a single stabbed wound.)

Seeing the papers again, it does make sense on how Bruce was killed right away.

Cassie: Yeah, a fatal stabbing to the heart did kill Bruce right away. No way Lana would do it again even if Bruce was killed from one stabbing to the heart.

Edgeworth: Either Ms. Starr's hiding something, or she might've seen the many stabs to be all in her head?

Ouch...He's got Angel right there to answer the question.

Angel: What?! But I thought-!

Edgeworth: Witness, how could you've mistaken for this as once an ace detective?

Angel: Well, when Lana Skye reached for the knife, I saw blood on her chest.

When someone stabs the other to removing the murder weapon, it does have the blood spilling out of the killer's body like so.

Cassie: It does happen when someone stabs the other person deeply. (Ouch.)

Judge: So you mean the blood spilled from the victim?

Was that true from Angel's own words again?

Angel: Yes, then she must've stabbed him only once. I haven't mistaken the blood to still get her covered up on her muffler.

Huh...? But you get some spots on your from the blood to splatter all over, right? If Lana were to stab Bruce a lot more, than there would be more blood. They got something.

Phoenix: Object-!

Edgeworth: *OBJECTION!*

Ouch, Edgeworth beaten Phoenix again.

Phoenix: Ah, give me a break already.

Cassie: *GOT YOU NOW!* Okay, Angel, what you said there didn't make any sense at all! (Sorry, Phoenix...)

Then what was on Edgeworth's mind to catch on to before Phoenix could say it? Even though Cassie did...

Edgeworth: Careless mistakes seems to be about the parking space, Ms. Starr. The defend wasn't wearing a muffler. Or in other words you try to described in this photograph.

Looking at it again, Lana would've been wearing her muffler of the scar like she always does, but didn't this time to see it again.

Cassie: *BINGO!* I guess you should've looked at her dress code for one piece to be missing out.

Angel: But that can't be...! I'm positive!

Edgeworth: With all due respect, I'm surprised your sad detective skills to go to waste. Now can we get back to the trial?

Seems like it for the Judge have some plenty on his plate so far...other than his lunch.

Judge: Indeed, please testify next from when you caught Ms. Skye's red handed.

Hopefully, to not pull anything illegal to the court room again.

Angel: Very well, Your Honor. I can remember on other things to say the least. After the murder, the suspect attempted to run behind a partition off to her side. I quickly caught her, explained her rights to her, and arrested her on the spot. Ah, yes. When I arrested her, she mentioned the muffler! That's what had me confused in my earlier testimony! The chief prosecutor made to escape, but against Angel Starr, resistance is futile!

Really...? I highly doubt that's the case there.

Cassie: Hey, Phoenix. Go on, say it.

Phoenix: Oh, right. *HOLD IT!* Ms. Skye mentioned the muffler? What did she say?

Angel: I'm afraid I don't know, Mr. Attorney. She didn't say it to me, she was talking about on her phone during the time.

The one and only cell phone that Lana had on her, as Phoenix presents it to Angel next.

Phoenix: You mean this phone, Ms. Starr?

Cassie: There's no doubt that this belongs to Lana. From trying to call someone, but ended it quickly on her own.

Shocking to this girl to be seeing the same cell phone Lana had on her.

Angel: From that thing, yes. But she originally use the lobby phone down the corner of the parking lot she had to walk over to.

Really? They've passed by it to not be important there too much.

Edgeworth: Very well, then let us recap. So you claim you've saw her stabbing Detective Goodman while she was near the trunk of my car. Then she went to the lobby where the emergency phone was located for her to try to call someone; failing that since the emergency phone was out of order, she try to call this certain instead on her cell phone. Which is where yo caught up and arrested her. Is that what you're saying, Ms. Starr?

Hmm...From looking like Lana stabbed Bruce, ran over to call Ema on the other phone 'but didn't work', then her cell phone, until Angel caught up to arresting Lana to dropping it and where she stood...It made sense where Lana hid the phone near Edgeworth's truck before being taken away.

Angel: I suppose so, Mr. Edgeworth.

Cassie: It makes sense how we found the phone near the trunk and the markings where it fell from where Lana was standing... (Did she do all of it just to really help her out or what?)

Maybe so, for Lana won't admit it to them completely.

Edgeworth: Well if that's the case, I don't think the court has anymore to-!

Phoenix: *OBJECTION!* Ms. Starr, what you're claiming is impossible.

Yeah, there was a lot more to it.

Cassie: No doubt in my mind either!

Edgeworth: What is it now, Wright?

Phoenix: Ms. Starr is containing detail which is meaningless. But if you look at it carefully, it contains a contradiction.

Cassie: In other words, look at the photo again. (Good Phoenix, you and I are on to something here.)

It all has to do with the car floor plain photo.

Phoenix: If you look at the car floor plain...You'll see there's a gate around the upper floors of the office room to the parking spaces down below. The one that Ms. Starr said about the emergency phone is in the office up stop and not down below.

Judge: So what's you point, Mr. Wright?

Cassie: Simple, Your Honor. Angel was up on the higher floor during the time and Lana was down there where the murder took place in. So ask yourself this question...Ho could she see from that far down below?

Doing so, would be hard to do unless there was a security camera in the office there.

Phoenix: Cassie makes a very good point. (Way to come through for me, Cassie, I love your smarts.) Her point and mine of Ms. Starr's starting position on the upper floor and below the parking lot, because she couldn't see Ms. Skye using the other phone...because that area where the emergency phone is blocks Ms. Starr's view.

From the floor plain, it does make sense.

Judge: Well maybe she didn't have her point of view stand out correctly when she was looking.

Phoenix: That would be the obvious conclusion, Your Honor, except for Ms. Starr already provided us with enough proof from the position of the car part.

Cassie: From the photo of Lana, have a look at it again please...It shows everything from this photograph!

Finding something off, they see the photo again on what it is.

Angel: So what are you saying, Mr. Wright and young lady?!

Cassie: That's Cassie Freeman to you, Angel. And this is what we're saying.

Something of a big reveal is about to be show and tell next.

Phoenix: Ms. Starr, both Cassie and I believe you've seen the crime happening at a different place in the same building.

Edgeworth: Nonsense! Why would she lie on something like that?

I was hard to tell, but there was another reason for it.

Phoenix: It doesn't make any sense, doesn't it Mr. Edgeworth? But she would lie at something so simple as a phone call.

Edgeworth: Okay, Mr. Wright. Enlighten us...Where was she when she saw the crime?

Looking at the floor plains of the parking lot floors again...I think they know where at.

Cassie: We thought you may know the answers yourself too. There's only one room to looks from the parking spots from down below, where Angel has access in that same room. Remember what I said? Those who use to work as a detective can use something if it's part of the case to bring in?

For Angel Starr was a detective once so in other words, serving lunches to other co-workers can allow her to go into any room, even from the upper floors.

Phoenix: Ms. Starr, did you remember telling us that one of your boyfriends is a security guard? You saw the whole thing through the security cameras.

All the scene from Lana looking like she stabbed Bruce and her calling on the emergency phone to be not working.

Cassie: *GOT YOU NOW!* And you call yourself a detective.

Angel: Very good, you two. I'm a bit pleased.

Yep, now it all makes sense.

Judge: Ms. Starr, what have you done?

Something she should've done on her own to be reckless still?

Angel: I know what I did! It had to be done for justice to prevail!

Cassie: Yeah...I don't think so, Angel.

Kind of went to far to still be lying through your teeth. Even Edgeworth demands to hear more as he slams his hand on the table.

Edgeworth: *OBJECTION!* Even if the witness say about witnessing a crime, the fact still stands from where the murder took place! This photograph proves that!

Showing of Lana near Edgeworth trunk of his car, was that all?

Phoenix: *OBJECTION!* Still stands? I don't think so.

Even he slams both his hands on the table.

Cassie: Don't believe us through our eyes, then let's rethink the whole thing.

Phoenix: That's right. Ms. Starr seem to have a big grudge against Ms. Skye, and we won't allow this to interfere with our judgment. In order to take this photograph, Ms. Starr would have to make her way all the way down through the security office and to the car park through the entire building, Mr Edgeworth.

Cassie: Looking at the floor plans and where we were investigating, it was really high up to be a few minutes on foot. Unless you took an elevator instead of the stairs.

Phoenix: So here's another question...How long would it take to get to one place to another in those long distances?

Yeah, how did she...?

Edgeworth: Well, amusing she went the long way...I bet five minutes.

Seeing it carefully, Edgeworth was right about one thing.

Cassie: Five minutes on foot to the stairs getting there, yes. Almost a minute with the elevator.

Judge: Five minutes?

But wait - there was more to say next.

Phoenix: Exactly. Five minutes for Ms. Skye to make her escape, but instead she acted against all reason and stayed at the scene of the crime. Why?!

Why would Lana do so and for Angel to wait for her moment? Phoenix hits his hands to demand more answers from this woman right away ex-detective or not.

Angel: What!?

Shocking there for Phoenix, Ema, Cassie, the Judge, and Edgeworth waited for Angel to say something or confess the truth. Well, her shocking expression explains everything.

Cassie: Somehow, she jumped. A skill detective has some strength to do something climb and walk fast. The next thing we need to learn about is, why Lana stayed even though she was going to get caught. There must be another reason why.

Angel: Grr...! And I thought I get some credit out of this one.

But she didn't, so there might be some way to prove in Lana's innocence now.

Judge: Well, a fifteen minute recess will help us think things through then. We'll be back to rethink this whole thing. Ms. Starr, nothing like this ever again but thank you for your time other other things you did say to help us.

Once he hits the gavel, it was time to take a break for Phoenix, Ema, and Cassie on their ends, and Edgeworth with his.

Phoenix: Cassie, we're getting something good.

Cassie: We just need to keep on going.

Phoenix: (Hopefully, it'll give us another day to investigate a bit more.)

Well, they will do so. But before that, after this recess for something new to come up during the death of Bruce Goodman real soon. You'll all see what it is son enough. And the big lesson in this one was – never take any extremes on something you use to do to be a hero for someone you hate and on others to get the glory, it won't help anyone out at all. But Angel did try a little, and still liking her food at the same time. Not bad for someone who can cook very well.
