Chapter 2: Caught

The next day came and well now since Eduardo was to be one day the next leader of the Blue macaws after his father, it was time to begin his training to help prepare him for that day. And getting an early morning start, Eduardo had to do just that with his father teaching the first and basic lessons of being a leader to his son. Eduardo was actually glad that he was getting an early start, would give him a chance to see Sapphire from a distance again, even if he was a little tired and yawning constantly.

Eduardo tried his best to pay attention as he listened to everything his father told him, with his mind sometimes wandering to thoughts of Sapphire as the day went along. Soon enough it was midday and Eduardo's father decided his son had enough for one day, but did wonder why his son did seem a little distracted as he did notice.

"Good job today son, but is something on your mind?" Eduardo's father asked. "Are you worried about taking my place?" He continued to ask as the two were eating their lunch.

"No dad, not at all, I'm looking froward to it, I was just thinking about something else involving me." Eduardo replied.

"What is it?" Eduardo's father wanted to know as Eduardo thought quickly and knew it would be better to wait to tell his father about his crush.

"Just wondering about Mimi, if she is honestly fine with your decision." Eduardo half lied, for he did have that concern about his sister too, but it was a second thought.

"I'm sure Mimi is okay, she seemed alright with my decision, in fact she did tell me she thought you would make a better choice." Eduardo's father smiled.

"Thanks dad, I'll try my best to make you proud." Eduardo blushed.

"I know you will." Eduardo's father spoke in confidence as he finished up his lunch with his son. "Now since we had a good first day, go enjoy the rest of it."

"Thanks dad." Eduardo smiled as he was thankful he was free now.

With his father going back to the job of leading the tribe, Eduardo hurried to the spot Sapphire hung out with her friends, hopefully they were there today as they were normally around this time of day. And there they were, by the waterfall which flowed down into a large pool, Eduardo going into his usual hiding spot along the jungle foliage as he looked at all the teenage girls until his eyes fell upon Sapphire. And well what was more attractive to Eduardo was when she cleaned herself up a little using the fresh water from the pool, to him, it made her feathers shine more.

"Can you get any more beautiful?" Eduardo thought as he held his head with a wing, leaning onto some of the thick foliage.

Unfortunately, Eduardo was a bit too heavy for it to support his weight and it began to sink down, but Eduardo didn't notice as he was too focused on his crush. And that cost him as something snapped and suddenly Eduardo felt himself fall froward as he couldn't pick himself up in time. Tumbling down from his hiding spot a couple of feet, he fell face down first into the ground as he heard the surprise of the girls and knowing he was busted…

"Oh boy…" Eduardo said in his head as with shaky wings he rolled so his face was upward to see the group of teenage girls in front of him, all, including Sapphire, with angry looks in their eyes at having been spied upon. "Good afternoon ladies…" Eduardo chuckled nervously as the girls of course were unamused.

"Wait a minute…" One of the girls spoke. "That's the tribe leader's son." The girl realized as Eduardo slowly stood himself back up and dusted himself off as he tried to think of an excuse as to why he suddenly tumbled down here.

"I'm sorry, I was just passing through and I guess I didn't see the slope…" Eduardo said, of course lying as Sapphire stepped up, getting right into Eduardo's face as Eduardo expected to be clawed right in the eye by her.

"Sure… You just happen to be strolling along here in this specific spot in the tribe area where a bunch of girls are…" Sapphire having seen past Eduardo's lame attempt at a lie. "If I didn't know any better, you're a stalker…"

"Mom was right, she is tough…" Eduardo thought back to what her mother told him as he really needed to get out from this situation before he would be mobbed by a group of teenage girls. "Look, I'm sorry okay, I shouldn't have been staring at you girls, just please don't tell my family…" Eduardo pleaded.

Sapphire took a harder look at Eduardo, considering her choices as Eduardo gulped down his throat, getting ready for whatever Sapphire would say…

"Come on girls, lets go somewhere else to spend our time." Sapphire said as her friends began flying away to go somewhere else until it was just her and Eduardo. "You're safe this time, but if we catch you looking at us again, you wouldn't be so lucky…" Sapphire warned before turning around and catching up to her friends.

As Eduardo watched Sapphire go until he couldn't see her, he was alone as he hit himself a little in the head a few times.

"Stupid, stupid…" Eduardo punished himself as he sighed, thinking that he no longer had a chance now that he made such a bad first impression. "Why couldn't I just talk to her in the first place?" Eduardo sadly told himself as now there was nothing much to do anymore for the day, so he decided to go see what his sister was up to, which she always wasn't hard to find.

Eduardo flew through the tribe area until he spotted his sister in one of her favorite places, a short cliff overlooking the tribe, one of the few spots in the jungle where there wasn't a whole lot of tree cover and the sunlight could fully make it down to the ground. Mimi was currently there, just taking a nap and having a nice sunbath as her eyes were closed and her mind was in slumber, so she didn't see nor hear Eduardo arrive, that is until he made his presence known.

"Hey sis." Eduardo greeted loudly, which woke up Mimi as her eyes shot open as the loud voice scared her a little, but then she saw her brother.

"Eddie…" Mimi sternly said as she narrowed her eyes at him as Eduardo had to chuckle a little, which did cheer him up after Sapphire and the girls confronted him. "What do you want? Shouldn't you be with dad or spying on Sapphire?"

"Yeah, about that…" Eduardo began. "She kinda of caught me…"

"Figured that would happen, didn't expect it so soon however." Mimi not surprised at all.

"Why couldn't I just come up to her and ask her out, than maybe she would have given me a chance…" Eduardo still feeling stupid.

"Because you're too scared brother…" Mimi rolled her eyes. "Look, you should have just come up to her, tell her how you feel."

"Well thanks sis, but it's kinda of too late for that…" Eduardo pointed out.

"Just give her some time and try better next chance you get and make sure when you do, don't mess it up." Mimi advised as she put a wing on her brother. "Now if that's all, I would like to get back to my nap…" Mimi yawned and closed her eyes back up, laying down and enjoying the warm sun shining onto her body.

Eduardo didn't really have anything else to say to his sister as he simply left her and went back to his hollow he lived in with his family. Which was empty since his parents mostly spent the daytime out of the hollow, attending to the business of making sure the tribe was happy and healthy. Eduardo settled down, laying like his sister was and staring up at the hollow ceiling, there thinking and practicing on what to say to Sapphire, should he get the chance that was…

"I really hope I get another chance and not screw it up…" Eduardo spoke softly as eventually, in his position, he found himself drifting off to sleep, dreaming of his next chance.

And I'll leave it off on there!

Don't worry, Eduardo is just getting started, it's not over for him yet! (Well obviously, if not, than Jewel never would have existed!)

Hope you're looking froward to what comes next and…

See everybird later!
