A/N I forgot to mention that this story is inspired by the vow. So some parts will be similar and some will be different. For the sake of how I want this story to play out except one to three flashbacks in each chapter
They have been together for 18 months now and about to move into an apartment that is close to the hospital they work at. This is a new chapter in their lives and they couldn't have been happier.
Both were very excited to take this next step.
"Arizona is the car and moving van packed with all of our stuff?"
" Yes it is and I have to say that this is very exciting" Arizona says with glee in her voice.
Callie watches how excited Arizonais and she couldn't agree more. This is a new step into their lives and a very serious one.
But, Callie also wants to take another step with her girl. She has given a lot of thought and she wanted to marry Arizona. Have her forever and live in a big house full of kids running around and have lazy and loving nights with her wife.
Wife.
The thought of Arizona being her wife makes her heart swell. She has to have her that way.
Thinking about a life without Arizona is a depressing one. She needs her, wants her forever and ever.
She picked out a ring with Addison last week. While they have been packing she also has been planning how to propose. And now that they have moved she knew how.
It was amazing how someone can change your life in less than 2 years. They have had numerous fights about kids in the last two months and Callie was worried Arizona would never change her mind. For now though until after the finish their residency they will put it on hold.
Callie is grateful that Arizona agreed but says that they should wait. Callie would wait forever for her. She just wanted her for herself first.
"Ok let's go"
Callie comes out of her dazed and followers Arizona to the car.
A day later
" Man I am tired, thank god our friends helped us with the moving'' Arizona says snuggling into her girlfriend on the couch.
" Ya, we are pretty lucky to have them. Come, let's head to bed and deal with unpacking tomorrow"
" Perfect idea I just wanna fall asleep in your arms baby." Arizona says with him of tiredness in her voice.
Once they were in their new bedroom, they both stripped down to their underwear and got under the bedsheets.
" Goodnight Arizona, I love you". Callie says as she watches Arizona drift off in her sleep lying on Callie's chest.
Wife
She has a wife. How did that happen?
She doesn't remember being married. And she would have remembered being married to this very beautiful woman. The last person she remembered being with is her ex. Who she has been apart from since the beginning of senior year of College before med school.
" What do you mean? I don't have a wife!"
" Yes you do, Honey we've been married for 2 years"
"What the hell? I have no idea who you are!" Arizona yells looking at Callie.
" Arizona she is right you have been married to Callie Torres for four years. Actually you are annoyingly in love with her" Teddy Says.
" IN LOVE? THAT'S CRAZY. THE LAST WOMAN I LOVED I HAD TO MOVE AWAY FROM HER. AND YOU KNOW I DON'T DO LONG DISTANCE!" Arizona yelled at Teddy feeling said.
" No! You're with her and you've been together a long time. Trust me on that. Ornery you lost your memory." Teddy said.
"Umm, I don't remember anything about that. Can I just please have a moment for myself." Arizona says, sounding like she is about to cry.
Teddy nods and then everyone leaves the room
Callie stands at the door seeing Derek standing outside in the hallway.
" Derek, what the hell! Why doesn't she know who I am?!'' Callie says angrily as she is trying to have a calm voice.
"I don't know. I looked over her reports and she seemed fine. I am sorry Cal but she probably might never remember" Derek says.
Callie just stands there in shock. No this can't be happening. No this is just a dream. A sick twisted dreme. She is going to wake up in bed with Arizona in her arms.
Callie pinched herself.
Nothing.
She tries again.
Damn it. Nothing.
This is her reality.
Her wife doesn't know who she is.
In the waiting room
" Guys what am I going to do?" Callie says having tears in her eyes.
" I mean look at it on the bright side." Said Mark.
"The brightside?" Callie asked.
"Ya she won't remember any of the stupid shit you have done in the past." Alex said.
"Ya. You can start over with her." said Mark.
" Show her the woman who she fell in love with" Cristina suggested.
"Remind her of who you are." Mark suggested it as it is the most basic thing to do.
"Show her the things you share and pictures of your life with each other" Said Addison.
'' Those are good ideas" Callie says. Still feeling defeated.
"Hey we will be here for you guys through the whole way." Said Alex
" Yes we will. We love you guys and one of you needs help." Addison said.
" That is very nice of you guys-' Callie paused for a moment to recollect her thoughts
"No but really guys. What happens if she nevers remembers me?" Callie asks.
Mark get's up from his seat and crouches below where Callie was sitting. " Cal she's going to remember you. She's going to remember all of us. Remember we are a family. All of us. Don't lose hope."
"Ya I know, It's just going to be hard" Callie said.
A few hours later
Arizona walks towards the waiting room and watches this woman, who is supposedly her wife sleeping on the charis with only a jacket covering her.
She has to admit that this woman is beautiful and that she looks her type. But how can she be married? The last person she remembers being with was Eilza. The one that got away
Arizona lightly taps Callie's shoulder.
" Hi"
"Hi," Callie said with a clogged voice from sleeping.
" What are you doing?" Arizona asks
"Sleeping and I have some clothes," Callie said.
"Umm thank you. I'm kind of hungry." Arizona said
"Ok let's go get some," Callie says.
"Lead the way"
So Callie walks towards the food area. With Arizona hot on her trail.
Why oh why is this her life. She was supposed to be happy with Arizona. Before Arizona she had the worst love life. First, getting married to George in her first year of college. Ending in wanting different things. And then Erica ran away from her during her junior year in med school.
But then she met Arizona and everything finally just made sense.
And now her wife has no idea who she is.
Getting food
"So I just wanna go over a few things with you." Arizona said.
"Ok"
" So we are married?" Arizona asked.
"Yes. Been married for almost 4 years."
"Wow"
"Ok. Where do we live."
" Downtown,."
" What's my favourite book?" Arizona asks. Still not believing that they are married.
" Well your favourite book is "The Great Gatsby" because you are a sucker for tragic romances" Callie said.
"What's my favourite sports team"
" The Red Sox, you said they were the best baseball team in the world"
" What are our Jobs."
" Well we are both 3rd year residents at this hospital. With you studying to be a pediatric surgeon and I'm in the orthopedic program to become an ortho surgeon."
" Really PEDs?" said Arizona
"Well in our intern year you wanted to do Cardio. But last year you started to share an interest in PEds because you fell in love with the 'tiny humans' during our PEDs rotation" Callie said.
"Tiny humans really. Who talks like that."
"You do baby," Callie said with pride. Then, she realised she used a term of endorsement.
"Uh sorry. Got the best of me." Callie blushed.
"It's okay. I mean it's not, but I don't really know you or as you say remember you." Arizona says.
" Well that's just a good guess. I am going to go lie down in my room." Arizona says being a little creeped out about this situation because she is still unsure.
Meanwhile Callie was inside Mark's office.
They were both sitting on the couch as Mark held Callie in his arms as she was crying. Mark feels terrible for his best friend and feeling like
"Mark what am I going to do? This is officially my wrost nightmare; even worse when I came out as bisexual to my parents when I was 18?''
" You can start out slow and just help get adjusted. Get to know each other again tell her stories"
" That's a good idea"
"I know," he said, sounding cocky.
Mark walks over towards Callie for a hug.
Because honestly she needs a hug.
"Mark I need to-" All of a sudden Callie's pager went off. She looks down noticing that it was her wife's room.
Mark looks down and looks back at Callie.
"Go"
Callie runs out of Mark's office as fast as she can and heads towards her wifes room.
Callie get's there and sees Derek and Two older people she have never seen before
"Uhh who are you? And why are you in my wife's room?" Callie asks the couple.
"Wife? I assume you Callie?" Said the man.
" Yes I am. This is my wife's room. Again I ask, Who are you?" Callie said.
" I am Barbra Robbins and this is Daniel Robbins" Said the woman. Callie stood there in shock when she looked at Arizona who nodded in confirmation.
"Why now? Huh? Why do you know come back into her life?"
" Because she ran away from us. And now that we found her again, we want to take her home." said Daniel.
" Sir with all do respect she has a life here with me." Said Callie starting to get irritated.
" But she doesn't remember you. And I don't see any proof that you are married to her."
"We are married. She has been my wife and best friend for so long"
" There's no proof and Arizona should go with people that she knows. Wouldn't you like that honey to come home with us?" Daniel asked.
Arizona looks between her parents and the woman who is supposedly her wife.
Then Derek interrupts the awkward moment. " The best thing for Arizona's recovery is to go back how it was like with Callie."
With that Derek walks out with of the room.
" Can you guys just give me some space? I need to think." Arizona said.
After that Callie and Arizona parents walked away from her room.
She was torn.
A few hours later Callie and Arizona are sitting across from each other in the cafeteria
"Why did I come here? Why here and not where my family is?" Arizona asks Callie feeling a little confused
" Well your dad was dead set on you going to med school for trauma but you didn't want to."
"Ya I never wanted liked truma"
" Ya well he said that it was important for you to go but you always told him that you wanted to be a neuro doctor. You told me that after constantly arguing about it the summer before we met at school you ran packed up your things with Teddy and you moved down here to attend Med school for neuro which was your dream. After that you weren't on speaking terms with your parents or your brother" Callie said, recalling what Arizona told her the day they first hung out.
" Well thank you for telling me that. But what I remember was that I was in my third year of Med school and that I was engaged to Eliza."
Callie felt a little weird about hearing the name of her wife's ex.
When there was silence for 5 minutes Arizona starts to walk away.
"I'm sorry. I have to go. I'm so confused." Arizona starts walking.
Callie sits there for a moment but then quickly grabs her bag and walks towards Arizona.
"Arizona! Honey.." Callie yells.
Arizona turns around and stares.
" You need to do what's best for you," Said Callie.
"Oh yeah. What's that?"
" Coming home with me. You know what they said. You should be with me because it's will help your memory"
"I don't know you. Do you expect me to leave with you to go back to your place?" Arizona says.
"It's our place. We lived there together for years." Callie said, getting sad and a little frustrated.
"But there is no proof of being in love with you at all."
"Other than our marriage?" Callie said on the verge of tears.
"People can get married for many reasons. And like I said I don't remember you."
"Okay, like what?"
"I don't know a green card." Arizona said
Callie laughs. " I was born and raised in Miami"
"Oh. Do I write things down?" Arizona asks.
"I don't know"
With that Arizona walks away
She has to find something.
A photo? No even though that is easy photoshop is very easy to do these days.
A letter? Still no. They might think that she is creepy on why she has the letter
Callie keeps on thinking about what to do until she figures it out.
She has a recording of Arizona from their voice megine at home. It is like a home phone that records missed calls. Surely she can find one there.
With that Callie quickly goes to her car and drives towards their home.
Back in the room
"Honey we have your old room for you before you left and your brother has missed you so much." Barbra said.
" And that Minnick girl is single," Said Daniel. He had always liked Eliza and thought she was good math for his daughter
"Eliza!" Arizona said.
"Yes she heard that you have been found and that she wants to see you." Said Daniel.
"Dad, do you think that is a good idea. I have a life here. Or more so apparently have one here." Arizona said.
"Honey look at it this way, maybe come home with us. You can restart your old new life. And finally able to marry the women of your dreams." Said Daniel.
Barbara can see the tiredness on her daughter's face. " Sweetheart, why don't you sleep on it and then we can pack you up in the morning?"
" Fine by me. See you guys in the morning." Arizona said to her parents as she saw them exit her hospital room.
" For what it's worth. I think you should say here." Said Dr.Shepherd before he left the room.
Arizona looks as he walks away. Then lie down in her bed and think about what she should do.
The next half hour she falls into a deep sleep.
The next morning
" Does this look fine?" Arizona asks her mother walking out wearing jeans and a sweater.
"Honey you look great!" Said Brabra.
Just then Derek walks into the room.
"Arizona I heard that you're leaving. Sad to see you go. Even though you don't remember we all love you." He said.
"Ya well I don't remember anything for the last 5 years so I am going to go with my parents."
"Ok well I will miss you." Derek said. "Just remember driving and I will see you in 30 weeks for a check up."
"Thank you," They all said to Derek
Callie runs towards Arizona's room home they haven't left already.
"WAIT!" said a out of breath Callie who looked like she just ran a marathon
" I have proof that we are together" She said
"Oh really you do" said Daniel crossing his arms.
"Yes I do!"
Callie looks at her wife's parents,then back at her wife.
"You said you need proof that we know each other and that we are married. Well I have a voice recording that can tell you that." Said Callie
Everyone in the room stares at her and waits for her to start playing the recording to show her proof.
Arizona stares at the woman who claims to be her wife in confusion.
Callie stares back at her and starts to play the recording.
" Hey, baby! Since it's your birthday tonight I have a few things for you up my sleve. First I am taking you to a fancy restaurant, then we are going to go to the space needle. I know how much you wanted to go back there and after that, we are going dancing. There's this new gay dance club downtown that I know you'll love and I love watching you dance. Please reply when you get a chance. And oh don't forget that I love you Calliope Torres."
Callie looks back at Arizona. " I don't know. I mean now it doens't really have proof.
"No, I like it. It's cute. And I sound happy and in love." Arizona says.
Callie goes closer towards Arizona.
"Look you quit law school because you wanted to be a Doctor. You called off your engagement and you left home and moved here. You made all of these choicess before you even met me. You owe it to yourself to keep thoes choices for at least a while" Callie said
Arizona stares at Callie.
"Don't do this Arizona." Said her mother
Callie looks at her parents. " I will take care of her. I promise. I always protect the woman I love."
Then she looks back at Arizona.
" We got this. Please come with me. We will figure everything out. Please" Callie pleaded.
Arizona thinks about it for a few moments.
"I guess I can try this out with her. To see if I get my memory back." Arizona said to her parents
" I will come home if it doesn't work out. I mean I am married her and by the way she is looking at me it couldn't have been for nothing."
"Fine but if it fails you know where we live Arizona." her mom said.
"Yes mom."
On the inside, Callie is over the moon. Now she has to get her wife to remember her.
Easier said than down.
Right.
This might be hard. But she's not giving up.
Never for the women she loves.
