Luz woke up bound and in the middle of a destroyed witch's house, as the architecture showed her.
Luz tried to reach one of her glyphs but was met with nothing but bare skin, as she realized she was only in her underwear. Cursing, she looked around the destroyed cabin trying to find a way to escape before seeing the figure of Amity at the corner, drinking a red-colored thing that made Luz uncomfortable as the smell of iron hit her.
"You finally woke up, Noceda. I was almost worried that I made the sleep spell too rough for a human." Amity said, one of her legs against a wall and a smirk on her face. Luz tried to escape the binds that were around her but was only met with a snicker from the brunette. The human cursed as she realized that she was trapped.
"Magical binds? That's a low blow, Amity." Luz said, staring at her former friend that she hadn't seen in years.
"You're very resourceful, querida, I couldn't let your talents make you escape before I could question you." Luz blushed at the Spanish term but tried to let the thoughts and memories out of her mind, staring at the witch, which expression wasn't as dark as it was during the fight or afterward, but the Latina knew that she couldn't let her guard down; whatever happened to Amity since the Day of Unity, it changed a lot about her.
"Why did you capture me? Why would you try to kill Boscha?! What happened to you, Amity?" Luz questioned, looking at the stranger that was in the place of her friend. Luz saw Amity sigh, walking towards the human and kneeling in front of her, her eyes on the cup of blood in her hands, which she played with, making waves with the liquid inside of it.
"Boscha isn't a witch anymore, Luz. She became a monster, something worse than even a Demon. I tried to kill her, over and over again, but whenever I kill her, she just reforms in a cloud of ashes afterward. I am being haunted by her." Amity looked into her eyes, her stare making Luz shiver. "These seven years weren't kind to me, Luz."
"They weren't to me either," Luz whispered, avoiding the stare of Amity, her head swarming with thoughts of whatever happened to the Blight girl. "Boscha become what? An evil version of a Phoenix?"
"Yeah, you could say that." Amity stopped and sat down in front of the human, sighing, drinking the last of the liquid on her cup. "There is something happening to witches, Luz. Something is wrong. I feel it every day, and I am fighting to stop it, but every day it becomes more difficult. It's becoming worse. I am just… tired of living with eyes on my back, waiting for the day in which a Demon kills me or I become something like Boscha… I am tired. "
Luz fell silent, only letting Amity think and decide what happened to her by herself. It was surprising when the binds around her disappeared in a movement of the witch's hands. Luz hesitated, looking at the witch for a few seconds before massaging her sore hands, and blushing when she realized that she was in her underwear near her friend.
"Um… Amity? Where are my clothes?" There was a silence before Amity looked at Luz with a blush on her cheeks, pointing to a chair on the other side of the room. Luz got up and went to the chair, seeing her old and ripped clothes placed neatly on the back of the chair, and her cloak folded up on the seat of the chair. What surprised her, though, was the new-ish clothes folded on the top of the table.
"Amity? Why these clothes?" Luz questioned, pointing to the newer clothes, not as damaged as her usual ones. Amity looked at Luz from her spot on the ground, her cheeks still red from before.
"For you. I realized that your clothes are… filthy, to say the minimum. I have a lot of extra clothes and I supposed I wanted to give them to you, you could say it's a peace offering of sorts."
Luz let the tension dissipate from her body; that was the Amity that she was accustomed to, not the scary merciless one from before. It was comforting to see the kinder side of her friend again. The latina missed how the way in which the Blight showed her softer side made her feel the warmth that came from it bringing her back to before the world became hell.
"Thank you, Amity." She saw Amity smiling and nodding, still on the ground looking at the human with a unique look on her face. "Um… Amity?"
"Yes, Luz?" The witch said, her eyes still unfocused.
"Where can I go to put these on? I am not so comfortable stripping in front of other people." There was a pause of a few seconds before the witch's face burned up with embarrassment, trembling as she clumsily got up and fled the room, shouting 'sorry!' all the way out. The scene brought a smile onto the human's face, finally relaxing since arriving in the city. Maybe things wouldn't be so bad moving forward. Maybe…
It was one hour later that Luz left the house to her camp, a new member of her party added.
Amity was silent ever since Luz suggested that she went with her to camp, a thoughtful look on her face and a firm grip on the staff. She did accept coming with Luz, but was reserved all the way, with something in her mind. Luz resolved not to comment on it, the vision of the terrifying version of Amity that she fought with still swarming in her mind. Luz stopped in front of what was once her childhood home and hesitated, looking at Amity for a few seconds, who was silent at her side, waiting for Luz.
"So… I may have some other companions, including a… um… child?" Luz said, embarrassed. Amity only blinked at her and looked at the human with a frown on her face.
"You became pregnant in the middle of the apocalypse?" Amity said, making Luz freak out, swinging her arms around, panicking.
"Wait, no! I just found her! Her parents died and I am taking care of her! I couldn't try and have sex in the middle of hell with a total stranger! Not that I met some stranger or that I would have sex at all and…! You're making fun of me, aren't you?"
Amity was laughing, her eyes filled with tears of her laughter, coughing while trying to contain it. Luz lost her annoyance at seeing her old friend laughing freely, a softness in her heart making her remember why she treasured her relationship with Amity so much.
"Ok, ok, that's enough of making fun of me," Luz said, waiting for the witch to stop the laughter. When it finally happened, still smiling, Luz continued. "Let's just get this over with."
Luz opened the door for the house with caution, slowly entering the residence with her arms above her head, in case Queen was on the edge of attacking her; to her surprise, however, the house was silent, not even the sound of the demon's growl in the background. Dropping her arms, Luz entered the living room to find a cute scene, which was only emphasized by the way in which Amity squealed at her back. Anna was curled in her own body, protected by Queen's massive form, which was around her, both sleeping silently.
"Well, it seems you had a pretty cute discovery, Luz. Congrats, by the way." The way in which the mocking smile was in Amity's face made Luz sigh, only listening to the laugh of the witch at Luz's unfortunate misfortune. But, behind her annoyed exterior, Luz was smiling, happy for the first time in seven years.
